Weird Mind News Room Episode 21: July 17th-23rd

Well Hello again to you one and all to the 21st episode of the Weird Mind News room from yours truly. We have now entered into the week of the biggest clash of the year in varying style of releases and an extra amount of new trailers and news from this week as well as a special mention in there too, so without ado, come on everybody, lets go party.

Movies

Barbie

I have one question for you: Who's Ready for Barbie Bitches!!!!!!!!. Yes after a long time coming (and thankful recasting's of the main lead from a much more disasterous choice) we have finally now have the week of the release of the all new Live action film based on the popular doll of Barbie from director Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Now this new movie brings us to the world of Barbieland where all seems to be good and easy and everything seems perfect, that is until our main Barbie (Robbie) (as everyone in this world is named Barbie or Ken, with one Allan and Midge I believe) has a form of an existential crisis and is unsure how it happened and soon she sets off for the real world to find answers with the simple minded Ken (Gosling) tags along on the journey and soon will discover if life in plastic really is fantastic. Now the hype for this movie was huge and added with the other big release of this week gave us the big trend known as Barbenheimer and in terms of reception it seems to be one of the best reviewed of the year with praise for it messaging, comedy and the main leads (especially Gosling) and I know I will be seeing this in the next day or 2 with my Girlfriend, now I just need to find something pink or some form of Hawaiian shirt.

Oppenheimer

Now from a Barbie Girl in a Barbie World to the destroyer of worlds, we have the all new historical drama film from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan of Oppenheimer, which tells the tale of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the Atomic Bomb and the creation that went on during the Manhattan Project and ushered in the Atomic Age. Now this film is stacked with talent including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh and many other big names and the reception, like Barbie, has also been highly well praised for its scope, writing, performances and the messaging that comes from the film. I for one will be checking this out on the biggest screen possible to really feel that energy that comes from this film.

TV Shows

Secret Invasion Episode 5

Just a brief reminder as well that we have the 5th and penultimate episode of Secret invasion ready for you to check out and it seems that it is all building up to some final big battle episode to cap off a series that has been quite mixed amongst critics but seems to be somewhat popular with audiences but will see how it all comes together with the final episode next week and if this connects in some way to the next Marvel film out in November.

Video Games

Pikmin 4

And for the final release of this week is more of a cosmic adventure on a tiny scale with the 4th mainline entry in the Pikmin Franchise from Nintendo that will see you take control of your own unique space captain and explore an all new and strange land as you go to save Captain Olimar and the other captains from the strange world with those little flower alien helpers with some new ones to boot. Now like the other new releases this week, this has also been getting great reception and has been seen as a great step forward for the series both in keeping it fresh while also not straying from the originals that made it beloved and I am sure will play this as well as all the other games in the series for a peaceful and relaxing adventure in the ginormous world.

The Creator

The first trailer for this week is from visionary director of Gareth Edwards, the director of Rogue One and 2014s Godzilla is back with an all new Sci-fi epic known as the Creator, which tells the story of an ex-special forces agent in the near future, who is tasked to hunt down and eliminate The Creator who has created a mysterious and dangerous weapon that has the power to end the war and humanity itself. Now from the trailer I have seen of this it does look really stylized and cool and I am sure I will check this out when it drop into cinemas in 2 months time on September 29th.

Migration

next on the trailers is coming to us from the animation studio (and holder of highest grossing film of 2023) Illumination with their new film of Migration which will focus on a family group of Mallards as they decide to take a trip of a lifetime from New England, through New York and all the way to Jamaica. Now it is a simple premise for sure and I will say a lot of the environment animation looks really nice and wonderful to look at and I am sure this will be a harmless film to watch when it released just in time for Christmas this year.

A Haunting In Venice

Now for a little bit of a spooky vibe and a return to another series of films that just had its 2nd film released early last year with a Haunting In Venice that sees Kenneth Branagh donning the iconic huge moustache of Herecule Poirot as he investigate a strange murder and goings on at a seance in Venice Italy during Halloween. Now I did enjoy the last 2 films that he made of the Agatha Christie novels and it does look interesting and stylized and I am sure I will check this out when this also releases on September 15th

Gran Turismo

Next up is an all new look at the video game movie adaptation of the PlayStation series of Gran Turismo which will tell the actual true story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player that sees him entering and winning contest to gain car sponsorships and soon trained to become a real professional race car driver. Now it doesn't look as bad as I was thinking of how they can make a film on something that had not much of a plot or characters but it does look interesting and I am sure I will give this a watch when it races into cinemas in 3 weeks time on August 11th

Spider-Man 2

Coming to us from one of the remaining content that is coming to us from this weeks comic con convention, we have gotten an all new look at the upcoming Spider-Man game from Insomniac that will see our heroes team up again to protect New York from many new threats including the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter and of course the Poster villain Venom. Now the story and the updated styles of the world and characters on PS5 look fantastic and I for one am excited to play this game when it drops on October 20th. We also got the announcement of a super nice PS5 design (the first for the console) and matching controller to go with it that is available to buy from September 1st.

Dear David

Now this next one is a bit of an oddity, but if you were on Twitter about 6 years ago before it has turned into a cesspool it is now, there was a user that created this lengthy story thread about being haunted by the vision of a child with a large dent in his head named David and for what is worth and even to this day is one of the most well done and creepiest stories on the platform with visual evidence and everything. Well now Lionsgate and Buzzfeed (yes that Buzzfeed) have created a Hollywoodified version that looks like all the creepiness of the story has been sucked out for half baked story, minimal spooks and the most circle jerk I have ever seen for the company of Buzzfeed. Now there is possible hope that it could be good as it is from the director of the surprisingly entertaining zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse but right now it looking rough and bad and if you want to check it out then it releases on Friday the 13th of October and goes against another Horror film on that day as well.

The Marvels

The final Trailer of this week is coming to us from the MCU as we have gotten an all new trailer for the Captain Marvel sequel film entitled the marvels. This sees Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau or Proton and Khamala Khan or Ms Marvel tema up to stop this intergalactic villain that has manipulated her light energy powers and causing them to swap around places and locations with each other and they must soon learn to go higher, further and faster together. Now I am sure as the last Captain Marvel did (or most pundits on YouTube that whines when a film is led by a woman) that this will be complained about but in all honesty this looks like it could be a fun time and I am sure I will check this out and you can too when it releases on November 10th.

What's the Gossip in Barbieland

Musician lets slip of some new upgrade to a masterwork

On the first of the news stories technically was news from last week but it was more leaning into the start of this week and this is coming to us from music composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who is well known for the music of the award winning games of The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 as well as the series adaptation for HBO and he may have let slip of something that may be coming out really soon. During an interview with a Spanish publication, Gustavo talked on his cameo appearance in Part 2 seen above but may have let slip that their is a new version of the game on the way and in development (Presumably for PC and PS5 with all new features and added content) as he mentioned in this upcoming version you can walk up to his character and request him to play specific songs for him to play for you when you couldn't in the last one. Now this could be a rumoured Part 2 remaster port with some fixed or changed elements from the original or possibly even a Part 3 announcement but until more is announced all that is left is speculation.

The man with the many fashionable capes is unknown for when he'll return

Now onto some news from a galaxy far far away with some news of a series that has been announced about 5 years ago and that was a new series focused on Lando Calrissian with the version of the character played by Donald Glover in the 2018 Solo film. Now recently there was some concern if the series had been silently cancelled but it was confirmed that the series was still in development over in Lucasfilm. But earlier this week the writer for the series, Justin Simien, has specified that he has no idea when the series will finally become an actual thing as he has not been updated about it by Dinsey or anyone since 2020. Now there may have been some factors to the whole thing as one was due to scheduling conflicts and planning out of the series and films for the future which explain the focus and release of Mandalorian, Boba Fett, andor and Obi Wan before that and possibly With Glover busy with other work including films, music and working on the Community film. The other aspect that will also affect this is the currents Actor and Writers strike going on right now that has affected a lot of production on so many projects right now but I am sure if studios will give writers and actors some actual proper wages and not sit around waiting for things to blow over for them to end up losing homes then we may see this release eventually.

The game with a million guns will have a release of a film with a million possible weapons

Onto the next news story is coming to us on an adaptation that was known for and has been filmed for quite some time now and that is with the upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game of Borderlands. Now we have known of some of the big names in the cast for this film including Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jaime Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart and most case this film had been made almost 2 years ago at this point but we had no idea when the film was coming out. That was until this week, when at this years Comic Con, we have finally gotten a brand new official release date for the movie. The release is coming in just over a years time on August 9th 2024. Now not much else was shown except for a basic tie dye poster with the logo and release date on it but I get they will not want to show much to the general audience until later and was probably shown footage at the actual conference but I am sure we will get some later down the line.

Aquaman Reshoots needs more water to make a splash

For the next story we are taking a dive over to the remains of the DCEU and look at the fish man himself Aquaman. It is hard to believe but some may have forgotten we are getting a sequel to the original Aquaman film this Christmas and has been very quiet for a little while with the last news of this being told that the test audiences for this film have dubbed this the Worst DC movie ever (which is hard to say when there have been so many really rough films) and things seems murky. Well it was just then announced earlier this week that to try and save grace that they have apparently done the 3rd wave of reshoots just last month for this film, 6 months out from release. This is mainly to do with the aspect of the cameo from the caped crusader as it was initially Michael Keaton for a while, then it was Affleck but now it seems like the entire cameo has been cut out and as for other aspects we have no idea what they were changing to it. One aspect people are wondering on is if a certain actress is still a part of the film or if their part has been cut out (as many have been vocal of wanting her cut out of the film) but we'll have to see what happens whenever some footage or a trailer is released or if is being released this year at all (sidenote: due to the strike there has been debate from Warner whether to push this, Dune and the Colour Purple in 2024 but nothing has been said yet) and knowing a case with films with countless reshoots, it usually means that things end up as a complete disaster.

Test your might against gods

Also from comic con, we have gotten some all new looks mainly at upcoming titles from the world of video games and one of them was with the new Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat 1. Now there was a new story based trailer released but I wanted to more talk on the other big announcement and that was with the Kombat Pack, a dlc pack of 6 fighter from other series that we had talked rumours on when the game was first leaked to be happpening. Well now finally they unveiled the trailer above and shows we have some familiar faces of Ermac, Takeda and Quan Chi, but we also got the confirmation of strong hero characters from 3 different series. First is Omniman from Invincible, Next is Peacemaker from the DC comics and the one from the recent Suicide Squad and Peacemaker (assistant fight move by Eagly is unknown at this time) and lastly Homelander from The Boys are all making up the first pass. Now it is unclear if there is more then 1 pass but this selcetion is pretty cool and I am sure they will be fun to play and try out when the game releases in Mid September.

Special section for a limited edition one of a kind person

Now I want to give a special segment shout out this week to my one and only Starlight, as the time this video goes out it will be her Birthday and I want to really wish her a very happy Birthday and over the course of just over 2 years now you have made me so very happy and loved and cared for with how caring and kind and adorable you really are and I know I am not perfect, I know I have made some mistakes over the past 2 years with all sorts of things but I know that happens and people learn from them and improve with every passing day and I know that I will be there for you from the day we first talked, to the day we met for the first time in person to the many days we have had together so far and the many days we will hopefully spend in the very near future until the end of time and even beyond the end as I will always love you my special Starlight.

It is a case with this as well to special mention shoutout to her that I want to show off some of her work that she has created over the last few months in the different forms of 3d models she has created all by herself that are very intricate and detailed and beautifully designed and she has put so much love and effort into her work and it would be a great thing for others to check them out and even if you like any of them to even purchase one of them for yourself as they are perfect to have as a nice item to look at or even use as an asset in something (as long as credit is given to her for it) and hopefully overtime I will show more of her work and I hope you do too
