Weird Mind News Room episode 25: August 14th-20th

Well hello to all of you wonderful people to what is the 25th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I feel at this point you all know what this series is about as I am once again going to take you through all of the new releases of this week as well as some trailers and news stuff (a lot of news this week seems to be a little on release dates for a good few things). So lets not sit around and do nothing and lets get right to it shall we.

Super Heroic New Releases

Movies

Blue Beetle

For the big release of this week, we are heading over the DC universe (Not sure if DCEU or DCU at this point currently) with an all new superhero that started as a streaming film release and got made into a full cinema release and that is with the introduction of Blue Beetle. This new film will follow the story of young hero of Jaime Reyes who soon finds himself in the possession of an ancient relic known as the scarab that infuses himself onto him and becomes the host of a new hero as the Blue Beetle and he must use his powers to protect his family and the world from evil that want the scarab back. Now the reception for the film has been decently recieved (while some were a little mixed) but is still recieved decently well, even if most of the criticisms is that it is too similar to a lot of the other films released in recent memory. But if you want to have a bit of a fun time with a new hero then I am sure that this would not be much of a problem.

Strays

Now on the other side of films for this week, we are going on quite the raunchy journey that may have you howling with laughter with the newest r rated comedy Strays. This new film will follow a small border terrier named Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell) who gets abandoned by their neglectful owner of Doug, he soon teams up with a group of other strays like a Boston terrier named Bug, An Australian Shepard named Maggie and a Great Dane go on a journey across the country for Reggie to get revenge by biting off Doug's D**k. Now the reception for this film has been quite mixed as while some of the humour is a little lowbrow but it does have some amount of heart and story to it all and I am sure that it might be a little harmless fun and I may check it out at some point.

Tv shows

Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 3

Now to give some quick updates on the weekly new releases of episode of other shows that have already came out, we have the 3rd episode of the new season of Only Murders and this one will see all three podcasters off to solve some form of thing on their own terms with Mabel searching the victims apartment for clues, Charles trying to pinpoint specific suspects and Oliver trying to save his show from being shut down by transforming it into a murder musical. Now I have watched it and I really enjoyed it and I am still on the thinking process as to who is the one responsible for the death of this seasons victim and will continue to watch with interest.

Futurama Reboot episode 4

on the other piece of new released weekly episodes is the 4th newest episode of Futurama with this one focusing on the gang helping Nibbler who seems to be infected with some dangerous worms that may dangerously turn him into a domestic house pet and the gang must shrink down into his litter box to solve the problem in a form of parody to Frank Herbert's Dune. Now these have been enjoyable and I am sure that you can check out the newest episode in your own time

Games

Red dead redemption port

Announced early last week and currently released in a digital format currently, we have the surprise announcement of the original Red Dead Redemption (which comes after the sequel but we will not get into that) getting an all new port version to the PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch and will see you take on the character of John Marston where he has been forced by the government (most specifically the Pinkertons) to go and travel across the dying out wild west to find and kill the remnants of his old gang including Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and the gang's old leader and mentor, Dutch Van der Linde. It is not only that but will also come with its highly acclaimed spin-off DLC of Undead Nightmare that is set in an alternate version of events where you must travel across the vast wilderness to find a cure for a sudden Zombie Plague that has appeared to infect the land. Now this game back then was highly praised as one of the best games ever made and these ports have been well recieved from critics but most people online are annoyed by this being a lazy port but again like I said last week it is better to have a functioning port then getting a disaster of a remaster like the GTA trilogy and I know I will be picking up a physical version of this in the next few week and play this fantastic game on the go.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre game

And for the last release of this week, if you are looking for something a bit tense, scary and something to play with friend then I would suggest the all new game based on the Popular horror series of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This new game will see a team of up to 4 survivors against a team of up to 3 killers as they must survive against these crazed family of lunatics and find and rescue someone dear to the survivors or end up becoming minced meat in the process in this multiplayer high tension spooky experience. Now the reception has been well recieved as of right now and some of the complaints may be from the lack of a large amount of content but knowing these kinds of games this will end up getting a lot of new maps characters and much more as time goes on. But if you are looking for something tense to play with friends as we get close to the spooky season then I am sure this will be something fun to play.

Trailers not to make you feel blue

Scott pilgrim takes off

Now it was announced a few weeks back earlier this year that we were getting a new anime inspired version of the original Scott Pilgrim graphic Novels and film from 2010. Now we have finally gotten our first official look at the all new series entitled of Scott Pilgrim Takes off and will tell the story of the novels of Scott Pilgrim who falls in love with a girl named Ramona Flowers and in order for them to stay together and be a couple he must do battle with her 7 evil exes. Now this looks so stylized and very accurate to the books and film (which I adored) and this new series will be available to start streaming from the 17th of November

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake

and now to present this new trailer, I shall do it in a bit of song (and not make it as bad or as cringey as Miranda Sings Ukulele Video): It's Adventure Time, come grab your friends, all back together for more misadventures again, with Cake the Cat and Fionna the human, the fun will never end cause its adventure time. Yes we have an all new version of Adventure time in the form of Fionna and Cake as they get transported to the Land of OOO and must find a way to save the land and get back home. Now it does have some of the familiar faces of the beloved original series (which I need to catch up on a few episode of) and this looks just as charming and fun as the original and you don't have to wait long as the new series is possibly dropping here on August 31st (but could be affected due to it being on Max and that streamer is not available here currently).

Disenchantment final season

Feels like I only recently talked about this series already but apparently it was about 2 or 3 week ago at this point but anyways, we have recieved a second and final trailer for the upcoming final season of Disenchantment from Matt Groening. This will see Princess Bean with the aid of Elfo and Luci and an army of dreamlandians to save the kingdom of Dreamland from the tyranny of her evil mother Queen Dagmar. Now this series looks great and it has been enjoyable (even if it has been a while since the last season and may need to catch up on it I think) but if you want to see how the story end then you can check this series out when it releases on Netflix on the 1st of September.

Call of duty Modern Warfare 3 gameplay trailer

and to wrap up the trailers from this week is something I talked about last week but we have gotten our first look at the gameplay for the newest installment in the long running Call of Duty Franchise with Modern Warfare III and this game will follow on from last years Modern Warfare II and will see Captain Price and his team find and take down popular series villain of Makarov. Now visually it looks great and hopefully the campaign and everything else in the package will be done well and you can gear up and be ready for deployment when this game drops on November 10th.

News to howl to

Spider-man will come out when it comes out

Now lets start with some update to one of the most highly anticipated superhero films of the future and this is with Beyond the Spider-verse. Now recently with the strikes and with all of the stress that went into the fantastic Across the Spider-verse, this film got delayed from its initial late March 2024 release date to an unknown date. Now earlier this week, the producers of this film (and some of my personal favourite creative minds in film and tv) of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were out on press for the new film of Strays and they were asked about some news on the updates to the next spider-verse, with the Verge confirming that they have stated that it will be released "when it is ready" and that they are "Hard at work on it, and we'll take the time it takes to make it great". Now I am glad that they have come out and stated it as while yes I was hoping to see this from its initial day one of March 29th, I can personally wait for this to make the trilogy the perfect piece of pop culture cinema when all of those 1000 animators have plenty of time, resources, dedication and plan and not be overworked, stressed and getting it all done down to the wire cause I would much rather a film that took its time to be made and turn out fantastic like the first 2 and not end up a complete disaster and a mess.

American Horror story has put too much plastic in their show

Now for some long running series news and this is coming to us on the topic of the all new season of American Horror Story (and believe me what they decided for this season was a dumb idea). Now not much has been released this week on this series but we did get 3 posters based on the 3 focused cast of this season and that was with a focus on Emma Roberts, Cara Delavigne and.... Kim Kardashian. Now the whole internet has been in an unanimous agreement that them casting the Kardashian was a terrible idea and many people have turned away from the show as many people do not like the Kardashians as they got famous for nothing (except for her Mom releasing her Lewd video to the world and apparently forced them to initially make 2 of them) and are just everywhere with their terrible shows and products and I have to wonder who at the studio thought it was a good idea to cast her in this. Now I am sure we will probably get some footage for her character shortly as the series is projected to release on September 20th.

Rick and Mortal date announcement next week

This one I am going to keep brief but we have some animation news and this is coming to us from the popular Adult Swim series of Rick and Morty. Now earlier in the week it was announced that some point next week we are going to be getting the official announcement of when we can expect the 7th season of Rick and Morty coming out with discussions from early this year being that we are getting the new season by the end of 2023. Now while that may be some good news for some, the biggest elephant in the room is who will be voicing the 2 main leads as you recall from earlier this year that series creator and voice of the duo, Justin Roiland, announced he was stepping down from the show and other projects due to allegations of violence and abuse that he was involved in and most case people were wondering if he was still voicing the character or if they will recast and it seems to be more the latter going off the similar situation with his other show of Solar Opposites and he was recast with Dan Stevens. I am sure we may get some clarification when the announcement comes next week.

Go go godzilla roaring through the years

Now for some news on a titan scale as we head over to Apple TV. Now a little while back it was announced that while we were getting a new Godzilla and Kong film next year (if it is not delayed) we were also confirmed a while back that a new series based on the titans of Monarch from Apple. Well during the week we were given some details of the plot, the first look images above and the official title of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Now this series will focus on the aftermath of Godzilla and the other titans levelling San Francisco and sees 2 siblings as they follow in their fathers footsteps as they uncover their familys connection to the company and into the world of monsters and down a rabbit hole of mystery that spans 50 years by the knowledge and secrets of one Army Officer Lee Shaw. Now this series will span the 5 decades with the character of Shaw being played by Father and Son of Wyatt and Kurt Russell. Now I am sure we will see and learn a lot more on the different titans that monarch knows of and we will see how it all plays out when the series releases.

Twitter seems to keep getting worse with terrible ideas

And now once again we have some tech news from a social media that seems to be a complete disaster and that is with Twitter and from the questionable methods of its new owner of Elon Musk. Now I mentioned the last few times about the likes of it getting a name change to X, its questionable limit of tweets per day and all other legal proceedings, but now we have another concept that is a really dumb idea he just announced. Now if you know with any form of social media, there is an option of a block or restrict button option to help with rid of any scams, friends turned enemies or to use against annoying ads or posts. Well it was announced near the end of this week that for some reason Elon wants to get rid of that button entirely on Twitter or X and purposefully I will say this once again: Musk is a fucking idiot. Now his reasoning for this is that he sees this as a method of getting more advertisers to come back to the platform as many opted out of the service when he took over and made the whole app a nightmare but this also will have more people leaving the app as they could be bombarded now with these scam accounts again, bots, some accounts that followed one another not wanting to follow for questionable means and also seeing a lot more of the accounts that have paid the dumb subscription for the verification service and most are Musk stans that succ him off and spout racist and offensive content, so I really do wonder does he think of these himself and not with a team or is there a collective group discussion on all of it, but I do not see this happening.

Release dates and change a plenty

Now we have some new updates on some release date announcements and changes and a lot of them are mainly for what is coming out over the next few weeks up until the end of 2023. A lot of them seem to be taking place in October and to better discuss it I will go in the order of the announcement of release:

so we will start with the first change and that is coming to us next week as we take a trip to a galaxy far far away with the new series of Ashoka. Now they just had a fan event screening of the first 2 episodes earlier this week (with social media reception being very strong) and it was there that it is announced that this series will be releasing earlier then its initial release time as usually shows will premiere at 12am in the US (and around 8am Irish time) but now it is moved up early by around 6 hours where it will release on Tuesday evenings in the US and the early but still late time of 2am here and this will apply for every episode starting with the 2 episode premiere next week (but we'll talk on that series in next weeks episode)

Now from a galaxy far far away to the past in 9th century Baghdad with some news on Assassins Creed Mirage. At the start of the week, Ubisoft announced that the newest game of Mirage had officially gone gold and work on it has been complete (with most left to do for the last few weeks for polish and bug fixing until it can be shipped). In conjunction with this announcement, they announced that the newest game in the series will now be releasing a week earlier then expected as it will now release on October 5th instead of its initial release date of October 12th.

Now for the first of 2 date announcements, a few weeks back it was announced that the Arkham Trilogy of Asylum, City and Knight were announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime this fall. Well now we have an official release date as alongside this awesome piece of artwork that was unveiled by Rocksteady from a fan I believe, it also came with the official release date announcement of the game releasing on the 13th of October, or Friday the 13th. Now I loved this trilogy and I am for sure getting this game again to play on the go (and hopefully the game will not have any major problems on its release date).

Now for the only one that will be slightly delayed from its schedule, we have the long awaited sequel to the sleeper hit of the Xbox 360 with Alan Wake 2. Now the original came out all the way back in 2010 for the 360 and was a very popular game even if it was an exclusive to the console. Now about 2 or 3 years ago they announced and released a remaster of the game for all modern console and the reception was well recieved and saw a lot of players enter the strange and twisted world of the author. A couple weeks later at the Game Awards, they then announced a sequel and that sequel is now coming out this year with just a slight delay. Now initially the game was set for release on the 17th of October of this year but has now announced that the game will be delayed just for another 10 days to the 27th of October as they didn't want to be in tough competition with the other competitors. Now I feel it may still have some competition due to the game being limited to a digital only release when a lot of people who played the original or remastered (like myself) bought it physically and would want a physical disc version (as more often then now a disc version would actually take up less space on the console, but more on your shelf) but hopefully we will get a physical version sometime in the future.

and finally, we got just about 2 days ago we recieved the announcement of the release date to another new series coming to us from Disney+ and that is in the form of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Now the series was announced a little while ago and not much besides some posters or images were unveiled until just this week with a very small 30 second sizzle of some of the clips for the upcoming series and the unveiling that the series will be releasing just in time for Christmas with the first 2 episodes dropping on December 20th and a new episode coming out weekly from there. Now it does look interesting from the small bit of footage but I am sure we will get some more new news or a full trailer soon.

We have found our Abby (Hide the Golfclubs)

the final story from this week was a late addition to all of this but it is to do with some rumoured casting news. Now as you all know one of the most acclaimed and best shows on tv this year came to us in the form of HBO's The Last Of Us and we have already got confirmation that a 2nd season was on the way (with some people working on the show saying the series could run for 3 to 5 seasons possibly) and knowing the next season will start to tackle the huge story of its acclaimed (yet also controversially debated) sequel, one discussion most fans want to know is the casting of one particular character and that is Abby. Now the showrunner of Craig Maizin has hinted that they may have already have casted the character for the series and are not sharing yet until most case production is back up and running but we do have a rumoured name for the role. According to rumours it seems that Abby will be played by Australian actress of Sharron Berry. Now she is not the most known of Actresses but she is know for her character in the series of The Wilds and looking at the comparison of her character in the show to the one in the game then I can see this being a decent casting choice. But right now we cannot confirm it yet and they have someone else in mind for the role so we will see how it all turns out when it is announced.
