Weird Mind News Room Episode 30: 18th-24th September

Hello again to you all once again for the official 30th episode of Weird Mind News Room where this week we will be delving into a lot of new releases, some variety of trailers and some form of news stories too, so without wasting too much time, lets get onto the mission ahead

Operation: New Releases

Movies

Expend4bles

So we start with the essentially big released film of the week is with the long delayed 4th release in the expansive Expendables series with Expendables 4 (or Expend4bles). This new one will see Statham and Stallone teaming up with another large group of big names cast to go and stop a terrorist known as Rahmet from obtaining nuclear warheads and causing tensions between America and Russia. Now the reception on this film has not really been the best as the film seems to be much of the same of films in the past. But if you want to have some action packed adventure with some big names in the cast then you can check out the film in cinemas. 

Dumb Money

But if action is not your thing and want something more that is based on a true story then I would suggest the next film from this week of Dumb Money. Now this film is based on a recent event from 2 years ago about the group of Rag-tag redditors from R/WallStreetBets who banded together and put the squeeze on the 2 hedge funds that said GameStop stock shares would fall and then turned to a whole rollercoaster of emotions and was great to see Wall Street investors who gambled with our money crying on live tv about us doing to them. Now the reception for this movie has been very well recieved for the tackling of the true story and from the cast and it does look pretty great and I am sure I will give this a watch at some point as you can too which you can check out in cinemas.

Spy Kids Armageddon

Now for the return of a series who's last entry was a little over a decade ago, we have an all new reboot in the Spy Kids Franchise with Spy Kids Armageddon. This new one will see the 2 kids of the worlds greatest spies unwittingly help a powerful game developer with creating a virus that will control all technology in the world and soon they must suit up and save their parents and the world from the electronic uprising. Now the reception on this one so far as of writing has been average with the usual zaniness of the film series but to me you can try as much as you want but you can't come close to the original trilogy that had classic memorable characters, the old nostalgia of the cast and of course The Thumb Thumbs (which brings a question of how much money would it cost you to have a committed relationship with one of those things?) But if you want to see what the newest film has to offer it is available now to check out on Netflix. 

No One Will save you

But if you have wondered if we are alone in the Universe then you can quench those worries as we have an all new feature film of the 3rd kind with No One will save you. Now this new film will the character of Brynn who finds herself at solace in the walls of her childhood home after the passing of a long time friend but soon that peace becomes shattered when she is awakened one night by the sound of strange noises from creatures from beyond this planet and soon must survive against a sudden extraterrestrial phenomenon. Now as of writing the reception for this movie has gotten some pretty decent scores and I was intrigued by the concept from the trailers release and if you want to check it out yourself then you can check it out on Disney+

TV SHOWS

The Continental: From the world of John Wick episode 1

onto the shows of this week we have the first of a 3 part tv event that brings us back to the world of high table assassins with the Continental. Now this is a prequel series to the world of the John Wick films as it follows the story of a younger Winston as he builds his way up from under the shadows and beneath the High table to become the owner of one of the most powerful management of the Continental Hotel back in 1970s New York. Now the reception for this series has been a bit mixed as some of the praise has been to its action and its casting but to some many feel it is missing some of the big names of the franchise in particular Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne (which has some concerned for next years Wick Spin off of Ballerina). But if you want to return to this world again, the first part of this 3 part series is available to check out now on Amazon Prime with the next 2 parts releasing over the next 2 weeks. 

Sex Ed final season

Now for the awkward talk that will all be finishing up soon with the release of the final season of Sex Education that will follow the stories of the teenagers and adults of the fictional town of Moordale as they contend with dilemmas in their daily lives, with most in the area of Sexual intimacy. Now the reception for this final season similar to the other seasons has been very well recieved and I am sure you can all finish it all up with the season available now on Netflix.

Ashoka episode 6

now for the reminder round up for the week with your reminder that the 6th episode of Ashoka is now available to watch that will see where Ashoka and Huyang have travelled off with the Purrgil in order for them to go off to rescue Sabine after being captured and brought what I presume to be Admiral Thrawn and the possible location of Ezra. Now I have check out the previous episode and while I say the previous episode was pretty good (and to some that may be a bit too much fan servicey which has been seen throughout most of the Star Wars shows from Disney) I think this series has really taken off a lot since the slow start and gotten better over the episodes and I will be checking out the newest one when I get the chance.

Only Murders in the Building episode 8

But if it is a murder mystery you want to check out instead then you can look into the newest episode of Only Murders which this week will see them back at the theatre for the Sitzprobe rehearsal (a rehearsal that will have an orchestra there for the show) and some of the big reveals will be shown and unveiled that brings some hopeful answers of who is the one that is responsible for the death of Ben Glenroy and I will say I have been hooked every week.

Futurama Episode 9

and the last of this weeks new episodes we have the reboot to the Futurama series that will focus on them being reborn as toys this week and must find a way to change back. Now I need to give a bit of a rewatch of things overtime and I will check it out when I can do so.

Video Games

Mortal Kombat 1

Its time to test your might as its time for MORTAL KOMBAT!!!! yes the big game release of this week is with the newest entry in the Mortal Kombat series of MK1 (or MK12 ). Now this new game will be a reboot to the Earthrealm of the series created by Liu Kang after the end of the previous entry but soon some powerful enemies, led by Shang Tsung will do what he must to destroy it and create chaos and they stop at nothing by fighting to the death. Now the reception for most of the version has been highly praised for its story, visuals and of course the gameplay and those bloody gory fatalities. I did mention most as the one port that has been the butt of jokes the last few days has come from the Switch port and its questionable state, which has now been confirmed to be getting a bit of a major update so we will see how that will turn out when it does happen and if you are up for a fight then you can do so on all consoles and PC.

Lies of P

If you have noticed a little over the last few years we have seen a lot of content involving the wooden boy that told lies to some success, some disappointment and some meme material (insert Pinocchio a true story footage here), but now we have a all new Gritty take on the character with Lies of P that will see you become part of a Bloodborne style game where you hunt down Puppets that started a revolt in the town of Kwat and infected morphed humans changed by a new disease. Now the reception for this game has been very strongly recieved and is seen as one of the best iterations of the story and of a soulslike game and if you are looking for a challenge with a familiar twist then look no further then this game which is available on Pc, PS5 and Xbox.

Payday 3

And to round out the new games and releases of this week, we have the all new entry in the beloved series of Payday with Payday 3, that will see you and friends from all around the world teaming up to pull off insane heists to obtain as much money as possible and cause as much chaos in the process. Now the reception I have seen seems to be a bit of a middle ground of modest with the critics but the audience has been panned as it has been hit with so many server issues since launch on Wednesday and they seem to be on a work for it but I am sure you will be able to plan the perfect heist with friends on PS5, Xbox and PC now

Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Now for the first of the trailers for this week we will have the official trailer for the upcoming new series based on the popular novel series of Percy Jackson with Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This new series will follow the origins of 12 year old demigod Percy as he comes to terms with his newfound powers when the god of Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt and must get the help from his friends to help restore Olympus. Now I think this does look pretty interesting, it looks way better already to the 2 films we got in the early 2010's and I know a good friend of mine will be very excited for this series as they love the likes of the ancient gods and they and you can check out the series when it starts streaming just before the holidays on December 20th.

Dream Scenario

Now here is a question, have you ever heard of that rumour of the one particular face that everyone has supposedly seen in their dreams but don't understand why (A concept that I plan to make in some capacity of a series I will work and develop on overtime), well this seems to be the case for the newest film from A24 with Dream Scenario. This new film sees Nic Cage playing Paul Matthews, a university professor that becomes an overnight sensation when everyone in the world starts to see him in their dream in some odd scenario and soon that fame will come with its consequence. Now this does look really intriguing and the reception the film has recieved has been very strong and you can check this film out when it releases in cinemas on November 10th.

Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Its time to learn the origins of the rebellion as we have gotten an all new trailer for the upcoming prequel to the Hunger games with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This film will take us back to the 10th annual Hunger Games and will follow a younger Coriolanus Snow and the events that led him to become the Tyrannical leader of Panem and with the focus of his relationship with the tribute of Lucy Gray Baird. Now it does look decent and to be fair I haven't seen all of the original films but I may give this a look overtime and you can prepare for the games when the film releases on November 17th.

Money Heist Berlin

Now one of the biggest known shows on Netflix came in the form of Spanish crime series of La Casa del Papel or Money Heist that started as a limited series and turned into a 5 season show. This soon spawned a remake set in South Korea that released last year but now we have a new look at the new spin off of the series with Money Heist: Berlin. This new series will see the main lead of the original series return in this new show that will see him lead a team of robbers and criminals with a different emotional state rob banks across the city of Berlin. Now all this is, is an announcement trailer that gives us a date for the premiere of it and you can gear up when the job goes down on December 29th.

Squid Game the Challenge

Besides a popular series about a heist, there is another series that involves a lot of money but with a more deadlier and bloodier outcome and that was with Korean series of Squid Game. Well the sadistic minds of Netflix decided lets make it real (well to be fair, Mr Beast did it first but no one died) with Squid Game the Challenge that will see 456 contestants battle it out to win the cash prize of $4.56 Million in a series of gruelling challenges that will push them to their limit. Now I am sure they will come up with some insane challenges (and some will probably be repurposed for the 2nd season of the main show) and see how the contestants played out (I pretty sure I signed up for it as it was opened to an international audience but I heard nothing after that) but you can see who will win the cash money when the series premieres on November 22 on Netflix

Apollo Justice Trilogy?

And the last trailer for the week is about to bring some justice as we have the 2nd wave of courtroom based game trilogy making its way to the Switch as following the original Phoenix Wright trilogy, the Apollo Justice group of games are releasing in an all new HD trilogy and soon you shout objection and solve the case when the trilogy releases in January of Next Year.

Meet the Twits

So we start this week with some adaptation News and this is also coming to us from Netflix and from the mind of the books of Roald Dahl. Now we have seen a few different stories of his be released in films and tv special format from Matilda in normal and Musical form, 2 versions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp (and soon another with Timothee Chalamet) and even the like of Wes Anderson with his adaptations of Fantastic Mr Fox and next week with the wonderful story of Henry Sugar and many other tales. But one of Dahls most well known stories that has not recieved an adaptation was his story of The Twits which tells the tale of 2 very gross humans who play pranks on each other to amuse themselves and pester their pet monkeys. Now now we have confirmation that this adaptation is finally happening as early this week we got the first official look at the adaptation and it looks like it is going a lot bigger this time around then the original story with the amusement park of Twitlandia. Now this has been in development since 2003 trying to be made into a film or even a series but now we have it coming to us from Netflix and will be directed by Phil Johnston, who was the writer for the 2 Wreck it Ralph films (the latter of which he directed) and the writer of Zootopia, so it may be in good hands but we will have to see when the film is projected for release in 2025.

Ubisoft workers are not very happy

Now for some company news with in particular the Video Game company news coming to us courtesy of the Ubisoft Montreal team who have been a little up in arms this week about some false promises made from the company. You see about 2 years ago in June 2021, the studio provided the option to all of its staff to allow them to work from home for 100% of their hours which helps better productivity, hardware may have a better option then the ones in the company and provide more jobs and easy access for other developers. Well it seems now that they have gone back on that word and have made it policy that everyone has to return back to the company and work in the offices for 2 days in the week and no option of the full remote work and most employees are pissed by this sudden change. This saw a bombardment of nearly 300 comments about the disarray of the office from lack of newer hardware, constant leaks and rodent and insects and the ongoing dilemma in many studios of harassment and sexual misconduct that the studio has also found itself in. Now the theories that seem to be the sudden decision is to help with staff reduction as the company has been hit with some financial troubles but it is hard to say but to me personally it really is just so screwy of the company to suddenly go back on its promises and really affect their numbers and their profits will take a hit and they need to see that if a lot of them are complaining about it then they may need to rethink their choices (but I doubt much will happen)

Elon keeps making very dumb decisions

Now we have tech news and this once again comes to us in the form of news from Twitter or X or whatever in this new installment of What the F**k is Elon doing now. So we have talked a little about the mess of Twitter in the past from its sudden name change that makes it sound like a porn website, to the bad decisions of Musk that thinks it is cool to disable Blocking (which I think isn't happening) and a few other reasons in the past of why I feel this social media will crash and burn and this new one may help heavily with that one. Now to many that followed this ongoing take over for nearly a year now, one of his early dumb ideas was charging people around 8-10 a month to be verified and allow you to see a set number of tweets a day and everything like that, well now he is rumoured to be adding to it and it is a whole lot worse as apparently he is planning to try and charge people just to actually use Twitter which I think is a very stupid idea as you already charge to be verified and now you want more just for us to actually use a social media site. His intention for this is for helping reduce bot accounts on the website but that is only going to make it a bit worse as they will still be a major issue and this will see a lot of profit in the social media decline heavily as people will not want to pay just to use a social media that is full of hate, vile messages and content and material that affects so many things then good and am feeling their is no point to going on Twitter anymore if this does happen.

But what are your thoughts to this idea and do you agree or disagree that Elon Musk is a god damn idiot for this suggestion and do you see Twitter being shut down because of some of these things? Let me know your thoughts and lets discuss them below.

Release and announce the chaos

so the last of the stories for this week are focusing on some of the announcements and release dates for some upcoming titles and for one rumoured title in the pipeline soon so I will go through them and give some announcement of the changes

first off we have Loki. Now this is not getting a major delay but in fact is following in the footsteps of the recent series of Ahsoka as it is getting an earlier primetime release where it will premiere episodes at 6pm on Thursday's in the US and 2am on the Friday over here in the UK and Ireland so it may be that late night binge watch.

now for a series that will never end and I wish would (but is next year, thankfully), they have announced the release date of season 7 to Big Mouth that is planned for its premiere on October 20th. Most of the bog focus announcement is that Megan Thee Stallion is part of the cast as a Hormone Monstress and most people seem to be done with series as well but its only 2 more seasons and this is all over.

the last of the items with release dates confirmed is with the news of an official release date for Good Burger 2, which was initially planned for a release sometime in November, but now that date has been confirmed as it will be releasing just in time for Thanksgiving as it is serving itself up on November 22nd.

and lastly with some announcement news, it seems that we may at some point down the line in the future receive a 3rd movie in the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series. Now not much is known right now with this but it has a form of a working title of "Planet of the Grapes" according to the directors. Now as for the likes of Lord and Miller being involved will be the case but right now they are busy working out the masterpiece that will inevitably be Beyond the Spider-verse so I can wait until then.
