Weird Mind News Room Episode 55: March 11th - 17th
*one year older and more music needed*
Hello there to each and everyone of you to the 55th episode of the weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where this week will be timing to 2 things of both me becoming 24 (another year older but still riddled with bad anxiety) and also by the end of this week will be the cultural holiday of St Patrick's Day (and it is not Paddy's day or Patty's Day) but besides all of that not really being relevant to most people we will be delving into all that their is to discuss this week with the New Releases, Trailers and News of the week so lets not waste too much of the time and lets get into all that came out this week
New Releases on the road
Movies
Drive Away Dolls
so the big film release of this week is coming to us from one half the of the acclaimed Coen brothers as they are here with a new Thriller comedy with the new film of Drive Away Dolls. Now this film will follow two women who decide to embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee for one to get over another relationship woe and the other to help liven up a bit more. However things will quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way when they are mistaken as the drivers for the delivery of an important briefcase. Now reception on this film has been decently recieved with a bit of a mixed response too as the cast helps to bring a fair amount of appeal to a film with a little bit of a plot all too familiar and some strange execution, but if you are up to hitting the road then you catch this film in cinemas.
Taylor Swift: the eras tour concert film (Taylor's version)
Now this one is just a simple update and relates to one of the projects of release from about 5-6 months ago and that is with the Taylor Swift Eras Tour film as it was releasing this week onto the Disney+ streaming service but there is a slight change as this will be the Taylor version as it will be all of the appeal of the one you saw in person (if you could afford the tickets) or went to the movies for the full sing song to it all, it will also include about 5 songs not seen in the original cinema release, so if you want to attend a concert without spending a massive fortune then you can check this out on Disney+
Tv Shows
Invincible season 2 Part 2
And rounding out all of the new releases of this week is with a series that everyone was excited about and then took a Hiatus for the 2nd half to release into the following year (that people complained about for no reason) but now we have seen the return to the world of invincible that will continue on from where the first half concluded with Mark coming across the last person he was expected to find with his father on a far distant planet and will soon return to earth on a new path and will hopefully go a more path for good and not to the path of becoming like his Father before him. Now the reception on the returning mid season has been well recieved and while it has some issues here and there it has been a well established return to a series that has garnered some praise and if you want to return to this world of heroes then you can catch the mid season now on Amazon Prime.
Trailers in the crazy variety
The First Omen
So now on the start of the trailers for the week will be seeing a return to a series of horrors that have been around since the era of the classic horrors of Halloween, Texas Chainsaw and the Exorcist and will be more of an origin to evil as we have recieved a new trailer for the First Omen. Now this will be following a woman who begins to question her own faith when she uncovers a terrifying conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Evil Incarnate while she is in Rome. Now It is a case that the likes of these films are quite a mixture from the original being an all time classic (even if the director is very questionable) to the series not so stellar or remembered sequels but it could be something that ends up being good or to the level of appeal of last years Exorcist, but we will find out very soon as this film releases on April 5th in cinemas.
The Crow Remake
Now we have the film that was in development hell for a long time and was just brought up in a recent episode of this about 2 or 3 weeks ago where it has swapped a release date with a spin off to the Wick-verse, but we have recieved the first full length trailer for the newest remake of The Crow. Now this will follow soulmates of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster with much love and intent for one another (I can relate and miss it a lot) but both become the victims of a murder by some seedy group but Eric is given the chance to save his love to sacrifice himself and soon comes back from the dead to seek revenge by traversing both worlds and putting the wrong things right. Now it is a basis that many know of the original film of the 90s that had Brandon Lee in his final role as an on set accident with a prop weapon took his life and this one has been a bit of a divisive opinion from the likes of mainly to do with the look of the main character looking like a version of a famous clown from the comics in a film that was messed about by a different studio. But to me it looks ok, nothing really getting to me yet but maybe it will be good but I am sure we will see how that will turn out when the film releases on June 7th.
Suicide Squad Isekai
Speaking of clowns, the final trailer for the week is bringing us to the world of an expendable team that may possibly get a better reception then the mixed response of one piece that already came out and in a much different format as we have recieved an all new trailer for the anime of Suicide Squad Isekai. Now this series will see some of the iconic faces of DC including Harley Quinn, Joker, King Shark, Peacemaker and many more famous faces being sent on a mission that transports them to an all new world full of magic and monster and they must get back and return to their world within 72 hours or else the chip in their heads will explode. Now I think that the visuals of animation of Anime are quite sublime and I think this will be a lot of fast, flashy fun and hopefully we will learn of a release soon with a projected release coming out in July of this year.
News that is award worthy
the glits and glamour of the academy awards
Now we shall start off the week of news with a bit of an update and that comes to us in the form of giving a discussion on the recently aired Academy Awards. Now this year was quite the outcome from the vast varying outcomes that come with these awards show from the mixed variety of surprises to all the awards being handed out tonight and I will be giving the highlight as well as how my predictions went a lot better then I had even expected.
So some of the big highlights saw some of the big winners with the overall champ going to Nolan's biographical epic of Oppenheimer winning 7 Oscars including best picture, director for Nolan and actor wins for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. The films with the most wins that made up the remaining choices included poor things winning 4 including best actress and zone of interest winning 2 including best international feature. some of those other surprises was seeing Ryan Gosling making the best performance with a live rendition of I'm Just Ken that had everything including an appearance of Slash making him an honorary Ken, there was a dog in attendance and they were best boy and John Cena proved that everyone can see him when he near bared all to present best costume design and then the absolute adorableness of the team for Godzilla Minus one winning for their visual effects and coming on stage with some miniature figures with them too (as well as some really cool designed shoes on all of them) which was very precious. Now on the basis of the award predictions I was very surprised of all of the 23 award categories that the amount that I actually got accurate was 22 with the only wrong one being the Adapted screenplay win as it went to American Fiction and not to one of Barbenheimer (which still makes me have to get to doing the reviews for them, will need to get the confirmation from someone to get the info for it) and am surprised that I was that closely accurate with all of my predictions and while sure some aspects of the awards show has its issues like it barely gave animation like 2 minutes of discussion showing the complaint (and the fact I could not watch the full stream here cause it was on the usual channel I watched every year and had to go stream hopping to watch it which mainly had a lot of Spanish commentary) but all in all I think that it is truly a very well made Academy Awards and will have to see what will be the big award nominations to come from the follow year of entertainment.
But what are your thoughts on all that was announced to have won and what was your favourite and least favourite moment of the event? Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments
Now on the next of the stories will be giving some of the announcements of a release date announcement and some changes to release dates and new names and it comes in the form of either a trilogy ender or all a continuation of everything.
So I will start with the first of the releases and the one with the closest of announcements and this comes in the form of the 3rd part of the planned trilogy from director of Ti West which is with Maxxxine as it was confirmed that we will now be getting this 3rd entry on the 5th of July 2024 and will be starring Mia Goth. Now this will finally appease all of those who have been waiting for this release but it will also come to an affect whether or not this will be affected by the recent rumours of a lawsuit for the main lead as she had supposedly kicked an extra in the head or face but I am sure we will hear more closer to the release of the film in due time.
Next on the release bundle is with everyone's favourite symbiote power couple (and most liked of the Sony universe) with Venom. Now we have recieved both a new title for the film and the announcement that the movie will be moving up in release dates and that it will now release before Halloween on October 25th and will now go under the subtitle of The Last Dance. Now most case this may see the follow on from the 2 post credit scenes of Let there be Carnage and No Way Home going off a set image of Tom Hardy in the same outfit from those credit scenes and it may possibly focus on elements of the Multiverse as some rumours of versions of this character seen in film of the past may appear but I am sure we will learn more eventually when we get some form of footage or trailer for it soon.
And lastly we have some slight disappointing news coming to us from the Dark Knight himself as it has been announced that the planned sequel to Matt Reeves the Batman has been delayed by a whole year and will now be coming out on Oct 2nd 2026 instead in 2025. Now one of my initial theories was that this film was delayed as it may be the other Batman film of The Brave and The Bold for the DCU was out that same year but that has yet to be given a release date but then it was more the case that the likes of the strikes and the other content like his Penguin and Arkham Asylum series he was working on may have made it in tangent with all of this so I can understand it and personally I can hold off cause in Matt Reeves I trust and if it is like the first film in its excellence then I am all for this next one coming out in under 3 years time so I can wait.
But what are your thoughts on all of these date announcements and are you excited for these films? Let me know what you think down below in the comments below.
What will be coming from the World of Mario soon?
So onto some of the news that dropped a few hours after I recorded the last episode and that was in the basis that we got some big announcements to come from the world of Nintendo and Super Mario as it was Mario day on Sunday and we got some new products as well as 3 big announcements from this events.
So most of the product were mainly to do with their line of Lego sets that they have been manufacturing for the better part of 4-5 years with the announcement of 4 new sets which include the Bowser express train from 3d world, a haunted Boo castle and a new Peach castle with one of the Koopalings coming this year and then ending with an announcement that we will be hitting the tracks as we will be getting set based on Mario Kart coming out next year in 2025 so it all sounds like some good new products to give all my money too maybe.
But besides that we have gotten some news and that is with Nintendo and Illumination announcing we will be seeing another new adventure into the world of Super Mario and very soon as the next film is planned for release on April 3rd 2026, which will be similar of a release to the first film coming out around the Easter holidays. Now it hasn't been confirmed to be a sequel as they have kept it very vague and in most case it could be that or the planned rumoured spin off focusing on Donkey Kong or even a Luigi's Mansion film so both of them could be a very exciting as well as the sequel, but I am sure we will learn more as they begin animating very soon this year for its release. Now that was not the end of the announcements as we also got the confirmation for some release dates of 2 of their projects that we knew were coming to the switch and that was with the remake of Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door with a confirmed release date of May 3rd this year and then a Month later we will see the HD port of Luigi's Mansion 2 on June 27th so it seems that we will be getting some very exciting new content from Mario over these next few years and I am all for more adventures with the plumber.
But what are your thoughts on all that was announced at the Mario Day event and are you excited for the upcoming projects and what do you think that new film will be about and who will appear? Let me know down below and we can discuss it there.
The Greater Web got destroyed by some leaks but we could fix it
So this one actually comes from a leaked trailer that had dropped online and has spread a bit of wildfire in those last few days and this comes in the form of a game that may have been shelved or leaked early. Now as you know late last year saw a really bad and vile hack towards the video game publisher of Insomniac games, the studio behind the Ratchet and Clank series and the recent Spider-man Games and in that list they unveiled a planned calendar release of upcoming projects and amongst all that was discussed was the likes of a possible multiplayer game in the latter franchise that would've appealed with the massively popular series of Spider-verse. You see there was a planned game known as the Great Web that would see you and friends play a role of a different spider-person from Peter to Miles, Gwen to Miguel and probably many more as you would team up to take on the rogues gallery of villains across multiple universe and will have you swinging through the different universes to save your home and all the others from being destroyed and honestly it sounded really cool and the concept trailer they made looked really well done and as if a fair amount of work had been put into it. Now a part of my feeling it may have been shelved was maybe due to the hack or the case they may not have wanted to be bogged down to the live service system a lot of people have been thoroughly against (as seen with the likes of Kill the Justice League and Skull and Bones as of late) but this one may have had its sense of appeal to the point that many petitions and demand for this to be revived have been called upon. Now this could also be the likes of some early DLC has leaked for the recent sequel that may have come from the New Game+ update but it is hard to say but maybe one day we could see a group of spider-people joining together to play as their favourite web head and save the multiverse (and if it does I hope I can play with some people as it is lonely a lot of the times).
But what are your thoughts on this leaked concept and would you play a spider-verse game like this in general? Let me know what you think of it all down below in the comments section and lets discuss it there.
The hackers will make their way to the big screen
And the final story from this week is coming to us in the form of an announcement to a new adaptation. Now we have seen a lot of adaptations in the past based on books, tv and of course Video games (which I have talked about before) and it has been confirmed that we are getting a new film adaptation based on the latter and that is going to be a film based on the Ubisoft series of Watch_Dogs. Now it has been known for a bit that they have planned to make a film or series based on this now 10 year old series and the likes of a film seem to make more sense in the broader form of things. Not much else is known on this film at the moment but it does have one new announcement in the form that Talk to Me star Sophie Wilde has been confirmed to be starring in the film. Now whether or not she will be playing the main lead is anyone's guess or if it will be a case of following the character of Aiden Pierce from the first game or Marcus from its sequel is anyones guess or more of a new story following anyone like Legion is anyones guess (but hopefully we could see a form of an Aiden Pierce led story first) but I am sure we will learn more overtime. Now there is no release date planned for this yet but once I do hear anything I will let you know in a later piece.
But what are your thoughts of this announcement? are you excited for a Watch_Dogs film and do you see this as a new lead hacker ore return to a popular character like Aiden or Marcus? Let me know what you think down below in the comments section
And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 55th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed my extensive ramblings for another week. Let me know of what your thoughts are of everything down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people (cause you all are wonderful people) and have a great day everyday doing so many great things and to keep being you and I shall see you all in the next piece :)
Take care, Keep being you, signing off
