Weird Mind News Room Episode 59: April 8th - 14th

*music that fits the life of a vault dweller*

Hello fellow Vault dweller and all the wonderful people to the 59th edition of the weekly series of entertainment of the surface world with the Weird Mind News Room where I shall be delving into discussing some of the new releases, the trailers and the content of the news of this week, so lets me get to talking all about the full entertainment for your amusement.

New releases from Vault 23

Movies
Civil War

So we start the new releases of the week with the film that I feel may be one of the biggest talking points of conversation of this year (similar in vein to a film that was a massive talking point in the States and became a sleep hit there that I may talk about as being an important message but a bit of a mixed opinion) and this comes in the form of the dystopian war drama of Civil War. the film is set in a dystopian present of an alternate history that see the entirety of the US at war with with one another with multiple different factions across the continent, a team of Military-embedded journalists races against time to Washington D.C before a group of rebels descend upon the White House and take control. Now the reception on this film has been very well recieved for its performances, the tone and setting and the deep message that doesn't sound like an unrealistic reality to modern day America and if you want to check it out and see if this will cause a deep conversation then you can check this film out now in cinemas.

Back to Black

If dystopian war is not your appeal and much rather have something of looking into the life of a famous face then, you are in luck as there is an alternative as you can look into the life and times of a singer taken from us too soon as we have the new biopic of Back to Black. Now this biopic will be focusing on the young artist of Amy Winehouse and will follow her life from her career, personal life ordeals of relationships and substance abuse and all of the content the media and tabloids pushed onto the public up to the singers tragic passing at the young age of 27. Now the reception on this film as of the moment is a little bit mixed as while there is some glowing praise for the main actress in the portrayal and appreciative of hearing the music and for her to get a biopic, some see it as not showing much or going far enough in showing the struggles she had to face (a similar tone that people felt with 2022's Elvis of not delving into a lot of the problematic aspects and being told from an unreliable narrator) but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can do so now in cinemas.

TV Shows
Fallout

But if you want something of a drama to catch at home you are in luck as no matter way you look at War, it is proof that War never changes as we have recieved the latest form of adaptation of a video series in the long awaited adaptation of Fallout. This series is set in an alternate history where advancements in nuclear technology after WWII saw the emergence of a retro futuristic society and the start of a resource War leading to a nuclear winter and the world frozen in time. Jump over 200 years later into the future where we will follow Lucy, An Vault Dweller from Vault 33 will venture out into the dangerously radioactive wasteland of Los Angeles to look for her kidnapped father and in the process cross paths with a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel and a bounty hunter ghoul that each have their own mysterious past to tell. Now the reception on this series has been very well recoeved with praise to the main performances, the setting, writing, visuals, tone and the faithfulness to the 26 year long series of games and if you want to become part of the inhabitants of Vault Tech then you can catch the full season now on Amazon Prime.

Trailers to put a happy face on

Joker Folie a Deux
So we shall start this weeks trailers by delving into probably the big focus trailer of the week and this comes to us talking on a follow up to a film that I feel may have fit more as being a one off but I guess the show must go on as after 5 years since the original we have recieved a trailer for the upcoming musical based sequel of Joker Folie a Deux. Now this will be of course set after the original and see Arthur Fleck  rotting away in the mental asylum of Arkham after his little misadventures in the original that caused quite the movement I will say, but this time he will soon no longer be alone as he will soon meet a young woman like himself that is not all right in the head in the form of Harleen Quinzel and soon a musical like love story will begin to take shape, a crazy romance will blossom and the basis that soon enough the show must go on. Now it has been a case to me that I always felt that Joker should've been a solo film and a well established deep dive into the mind set of someone that has been treated harshly and rejected by society (a video I will delve into sometime in the future) and was skeptical about this film and then the basis of the musical aesthetic, but I have been surprised before that some things can prove to be a surprising entertaining piece and I am intrigued by it and I am sure we will learn more and see more before the curtain rises for this on October 4th.

Maxxxine
On the next trailer, about 2 years ago, filmmaker Ti West came along and began the beginning saga of what was labelled as the X trilogy with that year bringing the release of both X and the prequel of Pearl and now nearly 2 years after the 2nd films release, the concluding film of this trilogy has finally been given some footage and we have recieved the first trailer for Maxxxine. This film will follow Maxine as after being the remaining survivor of a massacre in Texas, she moves to LA in the mid 80s to pursue her career of being a famous actress by starting in the adult film industry, but will soon have to fight for her survival in the era against the serial killer of the Night Stalker. Now I have not seen all of the other 2 films but have seen a fair bit and may I say are quite fucked up but very visual spectacles (will give them a full watch eventually) and this does not look too bad. Now I have no idea if that lingering lawsuit that she may be facing from a performer on set of one of her films that plans to sue die to the lead actress Mia Goth kicking her in the face but I am sure we will see how that affects the outcome when the film is planned for release on July 5th.

Star Wars Outlaws

Now we shall head into the vast galaxy far far away as we are delving into the world of a new video game with the basis of some story as we have recieved an all new trailer for the upcoming game of Star Wars Outlaws. In this new open world adventure game set between episodes V and VI , you will take on the role of Kay Vess, a scoundrel who attempts what is described as one of the biggest heists that the Outer Rim has ever seen all while crossing paths with turf leaders, generals, mob bosses and the republic empire. Now I think from the looks of this game and the gameplay from a few months back that this looks really good, although one thing that does annoy me that seems to occour lately with any form of media or game that has a main lead that is a female that they complain that they are not attractive enough and that they are making them woke and diverse to serve a certain woke agenda when it is the most annoying thing I keeo hearing all the time, when we go back a decade or 2 and when it was a female hero like Samus Aran or Lara Croft or whatever, everyone loved them so there is never an appeal to anyone (when the real complaint is the pricey collectors editions or the hidden microtransactions and season pass stuffs) but I think her character is appealing and seems interesting and so far it looks great to me and now we have a release date for this as we will be blasting off on this galaxy based heist adventure from the 30th of August.

Fly me to the Moon

Now the next of the films that has shown a trailer of is one that didn't appear on my radar until I watched it and got intrigued as we are looking at a new space race based drama known simply as Fly me to the moon. This film is set during the 1960s space race and will follow a relationship between the director of NASA in charge of the Apollo 11 Moon Mission and a marketing agent brought in to fix NASA's public image and in the event of everything failing or going wrong to have a back up of a faked moon landing (a concept surely not going to be brought up in debate after all this time again). Now I had no clue on this and then after watching I am interested especially with the cast of Scarlet Johansson, Channing Tatum, Woodey Harrelson and many other and I will give this a look when it releases into cinemas on July 12th.

Smiling Friends Season 2

I know that this is the 3rd week in a row I will be talking about this series but surprisingly I said fuck it and so did they as we have recieved an all new full trailer of the upcoming 2nd season of Smiling Friends. Now this of course will follow the continued misadventures of the crew of Smiling friends of Pim, Charlie, Alan, Glep and Mr Boss as they make it their mission to make people smile including the internets favourite long lost gaming mascot Gwimbly, a return to Mr Frog and even to the levels of the President of the United states and all the different styles and animation of wackiness from the insane minds of Zach Hadel and Micheal Cuzack have me very excited for this new series and the wait is not long now as it will be releasing in just under a month's time on May 12th in the US and May 13th on Channel 4 and Adult Swim in the UK.

IF

and the final trailer from this week is one of the other pieces of footage released from the main focal story of the week of cinemacon and ask the question of what happens to those friends we came up with when we were younger, well mr John Krasinski will answer that question very soon as we have recieved the final trailer for his upcoming film of IF. now this film will follow a young girl named Bea who receives a gift to see people's imaginary friends who have been abandoned by the kids they helped when they were younger. Soon with the assistance of her neighbor Cal with the same ability will team up to help these IF's find new kids to care for before they disappear for good. Now I really like the concept and the trailer have given it quite the whimsical and fantastical feel and I feel it is not only me but this film has a vibe of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends feel to it and does intrigue me and I will for sure checking this film out releasing just a little over a month's time on May 17th.

A little bit of news with a lot to discuss

The Conquerer may need to learn to calm down a bit
So this first story is going to be a quick little update to a story I mentioned back around christmas time in the episode of Rhymes I did where I had given a news story about the outcome of a particular trial and that was to do with the actor of Johnathon Majors. Now it has been a little over a year when this story first broke that he was arrested for assault and it was a few months later that the trail went ahead in November and then about a month later just before Christmas he was found guilty. Now followed from this was the outcome of him getting his verdict at a later date and over that period of time saw him being dropped by his agency, dropped by Marvel and Disney as Kang (even though I have seen some people online say that he will be back as the character in a secret rehiring, but it would cause a more debated thing if they did that they'll have to do that to Gina Carano and that whole ordeal is a mess of itself) and other projects he was in (with one as an award contender) being shelved for the time being. Now we finally got word this week that it seems he will not face jail time and instead that year sentence will instead have him put into Rehabilitation for anger management or aggression control. Now hopefully this will see some progress on a long road to recovery and he can come out of this process as a changed man and not destroy his career in the aftermath and let him have a better stardom but I guess only time will tell.

But what do you think of this outcome and do you see this having a positive outcome for him or will this all fall apart? let me know what you think down below in the comments.

The glitz and glam of the world of cinema - con
and the final story for this week is quite the more much bigger focus of this week as it was just the other day I was busy working away on my reviews and other idea concepts when it was occoured to me that it has been a whole year since the big film event of the spring happens and that is of course to talk on all things that is shown and told at cinemacon. Now it is a case that not much has been shown to the public besides those in attendance but the most we have seen is the trailers for 3 films announced, one from Warner, One from Disney and one from Paramount and there is a lot of things that have been announced at this years event and I will give as much info as I possibly can of what was announced and presented from each studio.

So we shall start with the first news content that I learned the announcements of is with the studio of Universal studios. So we got a fair few announcements and updates from the studio and what they did unveil was as follows. We learned from this event that the sequel to the smash hit video game adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's is getting a sequel and has been confirmed for a release in the fall of 2025 with a first look image at the Jim Henson studio working on a new animatronic which is either the Mangle or maybe a form of build for the Puppet. Some footage of The surprise sequel of Twisters was shown which sees some of the main cast figuring out ways to try and stop the destruction and devastation of this more powerful storm from causing much more deadlier carnage and combining the element of practical and impractical methods to stop the storms. They then were treated to an extended scene of the upcoming sequel of Despicable me 4 with a focus of the scene from the trailer of Gru, 2 of the minions, Gru JR and a new wannabe villain of Poppy infiltrating a castle to capture a honey badger from an elderly villain. They then showed footage of the upcoming Dreamworks film of The Wild Robot which shows more of the beautiful visuals as well as some of the story with Roz as well as some characters like the fox voiced by Pedro Pascal as well as the motherly connection she will make with a small gosling. Next first look shown was some of the early filmed footage of the upcoming Wolfman film now confirmed for release now in January that shows some of the main cast and the first shown form of the transformation of the character into the titular wolfman. The last of the footage for this studio was some of the extended footage of the upcoming adaptation of Wicked which unveiled the appearance of Michelle Yeoh's Madame Morrible, some bonding of Glinda and Elphaba as well as the first look Peter Dinklage's character of Dr Dillamond as well as Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of OZ and that was all you got from the Universal conference.

Tacked on to this is with some of bigger events was with some of the Focus features which gave a little bit of an update to getting to see the first trailer to Robert Eggers upcoming new horror film of Nosferatu giving the audience a first look at the film, cast as well as the look of the creature in the films title. Given it is releasing on Christmas Day it may be another short while before we will see this trailer but I feel it is not too long but from the description of the trailer it sounds like we are in for a treat.

Next up on the list is with the company of Lionsgate. Now before some of the descriptions I will be delving into some announced projects which include the confirmation of a Highlander remake with Henry Cavil in the title role and directed by John Wick director of Chad Stahelski, we are getting a 3rd film in the Now you see me series that will see the original cast and director return for a new film with many new young magicians getting involved in some heists, Destin Daniel Cretton the director of Shang Chi has announced they will be directing a live action adaptation of the Naruto anime, A new Blair Witch project remake is in the works which could end up being really good and have some genius marketing like the original or be lost amongst the samey found footage horrors of recent memory, it also was announced a reboot of Scary movie is in the works that could be really funny or really dumb or most case have something that will offend people, one of the 3. And the last new announcement before we delve into content we have known about already is that Margot Robbie will be producing a new film based on the popular property based board game of Monopoly. Now it is unclear if she will also be starring in it but I am sure we will learn more about that as development continues. As for the known content, they unveiled some new footage of the upcoming adaptation of Borderlands that gives a bit more of a focus on the plot of them all after a ancient treasure hidden on the universes worst planet as well as being protective of a girl for the universe's biggest SOB's. We then got some footage for the upcoming reboot of the Crow that they promise to be different to the original film and the footage focuses more on the romance of the main leads as well as the confirmation that the film will also be delayed slightly from June 7th to August 23rd (this isn't the only delay for a Lionsgate film as the 11th Saw movie has also been confirmed to be delayed by a whole year to September 2025. They then unveiled some new footage for the upcoming release of the new entry of the Strangers series of the villains messing with the main leads with that releasing next month, they then showed some footage of the upcoming Halle Berry film of Never Let Go that is a new horror of a protective mother and their 2 sons surviving in a remote woods from a dangerous creature a-la akin to Quiet Place and Bird Box with that releasing in September this year. Follow on from that is the confirmation of Guy Ritchies next film follow next weeks release of Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (I believe out next week) with the new film of the Gray starring Cavil, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalas who come together as a rag tag group of criminals on a shared mission of fame and revenge with a release in January next year. They then shown some new footage for the upcoming spin off for the John Wick universe with Ballerina with her tale set between Chapter 3 and 4 of Ballerina out for revenge against those that killed her family with the assistance of John Wick himself as well as a new character played by Norman Reedus that sounds really cool and will be dropping next summer when they finishing adding more new cool scenes, before ending this conference on the first footage for the upcoming biopic based on the king of Pop of Michael Jackson with the footage covering all of the eras of the musicians career from early days to global stardom.

Now the only footage released to the public was the first trailer to the Joker sequel that was unveiled at the event. They then shown off some extended sneak peek to the upcoming prequel of Max Max Furiosa that was split into 3 parts of the past of her being captured by Lord Dementus and given to Immortan Joe, her living and surviving in the wasteland and then her fight to kill the one who took her from her home and wanting revenge on her captors in all high octane action. It was then shown some extended footage to the upcoming sequel to Beetlejuice that expands on the trailer with new footage of the well dressed demon and some of the underworld shenanigans we will see with the cast when that comes out this fall. They then got new footage or trailer for the upcoming film of the Watchers which gives more of the plot of why these people are in this bunker type structure deep in the Irish wilderness and what they are being stalked and watched by which I am sure we will get very soon and this film is still confirmed for June and directed by the daughter of the director known for twist reveals and speaking of that we got the first look at his own new film of Trap which gives an idea of Josh Hartnett and his daughter going to a concert and learning that it is a trap set up to catch a serial killer of the Butcher which turns out to be the main character and that their is twist upon twist to the film and we'll probably see that released soon before it comes out in early August. It was also the case of the last bit of footage that was unveiled was for the upcoming film of Oscar winning director Bong Jung-Ho's film of Mickey 17 that gives us an idea of the concept of clones and dangerous missions and hijinks in sci-fi and sounds cool to see when that comes out in late Jan next year. Besides that there was some minor announcements post with one confirmation that they have just wrapped filming on the live action adaptation of MInecraft as well as the confirmation of the popular monsterverse series of Monarch is getting a season 2 on the way as well as confirmed new spin offs and some films on the way soon.

for the 2nd last studio (as one studio confirmed not appearing this year is Sony) is with Paramount and besides the announced Scary Movie Reboot we have also got some confirmations of a few other projects. We recieved info we are getting a new Live action R-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie based on the popular recent miniseries of the Last Ronin (a comic about an alt future when shredders decendant rules with an iron fist and 3 of the turtles and SPlinter have been killed long ago and the remaining turtle will seek revenge for his fallen family and brothers) which sounds awesome but also a bit skeptical on the designs and look of the turtles being the live action Micheal Bay ones but we have no ideas yet of what they'll look like. We also got confirmation of a new Transformers film crossover with G.I Joe as teased in the last film for a release either in the 2025/26 release calendar, Damien Chazelle is working away on a new film that not much info is known about the project as of yet. We got confirmation of the Bee Gee biopic will be directed by Ridley Scott, Seth Gramhe-Smith will be writing a new origin prequel film to Star Trek and be set in the same film timeline of the J.J Abrahms films with a release next year. Edgar Wright will be giving his unique flair to the world of the Running man in the works and planned to star Glen Powell in the main role (after his new original film that may be starring Emma Stone). A new horror film known as Vicious starring Dakota Fanning in the works, the Naked Gun remake with Liam Neeson and Akiva Schaffer directing is confirmed for next year, South Park creators of Trey Parker and Matt stone are making a new musical (following their smash hit The Book of Mormon) and will have music written with Kendrick Lamar, the Mutant Mayhem sequel and a 3rd Paw Patrol film are confirmed in the works and the confirmation of a trilogy of animated Avatar films in the works with Eric Nam as Aang and Bautista as the villain.

As for the confirmed projects, they unveiled some new footage or a trailer for the upcoming prequel spin-off for a Quiet place Day One which we will probably get soon, we got the trailer they shown for IF, They unveiled the first footage for the upcoming animated film of Transformers One that will explain the origins of the recognizable Autobots and Deceptacons, how they transform and how they were once friends and even brother will turn to mortal enemies with a release this October. They then unveiled the first footage for Sonic 3 with the confirmation of Jim Carrey as Robotnik that has put on a bit of weight and may be becoming more of the game accurate look as well as Shadow in action (though he does not speak to hide who is voicing him for the moment) as well as Eggman and sonic teaming up and the final bit of footage shown at this conference was with the first look at the upcoming grandiose sequel to Gladiator of action the characters and motivations and how this will go big or go bust with its exciting premise when it comes out this Thanksgiving. Also forgot to mention about the confirmed releases of a 4th SpongeBob movie in December 2025 and an upcoming Smurfs film in Feb 2025 with the confirmed cast with names such as Rhianna, Nick Offerman, Kurt Russell, John Goodman, Xolo Mariduena, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Cordon, Sandra Oh and many more.

And finally we wrap all of this up with the House of Mouse with Disney as they had mainly had a focus on unveiling footage of their upcoming projects with the launch of the first 13 mins of footage to the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes which focused on a forest community being attacked by apes with tasers and a bit of Noa on his quest of finding out information of the past. They then were treated to the first 9 mins of footage for Deadpool and Wolverine with Wade working with Bob as Used Car Salesmen and then some elements of the last few years before he is taken by the TVA, asked to help fix the timeline and gets a costume update where he breaks the fourth wall and a camera and tells fox to go fuck themselves to the tune of Glamorous by Fergie and then a brief clip with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. They then were treated to around the first half hour of Pixar's highly anticipated sequel of Inside Out 2 that seems to have gone down very well with the audience in its tone, humour and heart. 2 Clips were unveiled for the upcoming new film in the Alien Franchise with Romulus, that introduces the crew and their confrontation of a flooded room with face huggers, as well as a chestbuster scene and all is violent and tense and fits the classic tone of the original films. They got the first official footage for the surprised announced sequel to Moana which sees her much older returning to her home island and some idea of the story of journeying out to the seas beyond as they call to her again and some familiar faces from the original are back in this new adventure. They provided the briefest of looks at the upcoming Mufasa film that sees some new locales like snowy mountains, African swamp lands and deep jungles with the tale of how this young lion will become the great leader everyone knows him as. We got confirmation of some slight change to Thunderbolts that the films title as an asterisk at the end implying there may be more to the title and then lastly we got some new first look footage at the new Captain America film with Sam Wilson front and center, the first appearance of Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross, an attack of some sleeper winter soldier agents and some basis that Ross wants Sam to create a new Avengers team. It seems the case that there is appeal as some are enjoying the great action for this film as well as some callbacks to Ford's previous works as a figure in political power.

And with all that said and done that is everything that was shown off at this years CinemaCon and while we may not have seen a lot of content from this years event it sure is exciting to learn on some of the content that we will be seeing over the next year or 2 that will bring the appeal back to people going to the movies cause there is nothing better then that (to some anyway, others have opinions of that) but I know my schedule is not looking clear anytime soon that's for sure.

But what are your thoughts of everything discussed in this years CinemaCon and is there anything from these studios you are most excited about and what are you surprised at seeing absent (mainly to me any info about the last in the Mission Impossible and Fast and Furious series) but let me know what your own thoughts are down below.

And with all of that very extensive piece of news and other content this brings us to the end of the 59th edition of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed the deep dive talking on all things of media. Let me know your opinions on all discussed below (what you thought of the new releases, opinions on the trailers and thoughts on the stories discussed) and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday doing many great things :)

Take Care, Keep being you, Signing off
