Weird Mind News Room Episode 73: July 15th - 21st
*music that make me want to be taken up in a tornado (I want that at this point)*
Hello and welcome to the newest episode of Weird Mind News Room where this week we will be delving into some of the small announcements of the New Releases, some trailers and a few little news stories for this week so lets not get too much into introductions and let us get into the small few options for this week.
New releases for the change of weather
Movies
Twisters
You may want to batten down the hatches for this big release of this week as things are about to get heavy and better prepare for a lot of damages as we have the surprise legacy sequel to the mid 90s Disaster movie of Twisters. The film follows Kate Cooper, a meteorologist who returns out to the field of testing new tracking devices for weather after she experienced and survived a devastating tornado not too ling ago. She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens, a Social Media Storm chaser and soon find themselves crossing paths with combining both their areas of expertise and learning to survive when the storm grows and the dangers rise. Reception for the film has been well praised with positives towards the lead performances of Daisy Edger Jones and Glen Powell as well as the visual effects being some of the best of the year and if you are up for chasing storms then you can catch the new film out now in cinemas.TV Shows
Cobra Kai Final Season Part 1
It is time to put on your Gi's and fasten those coloured belts and learn the ways of the masters as the fight is coming back once more in the last of the new releases of the week as we have the 1st part of 3 to the final season of Cobra Kai. The series will pick up from the events of the last season that saw Cobra Kai's elimination from the Valley as Senseis and students decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai or the world Karate Championship. Reception to the new seaon like its previous 5 seasons has been well recieved for its story, characters and action pieces and working well as a respectful follow up to the original 4 films of the series. If you are up for catching this new high kicking final season you can catch Part 1 now on Netflix with Part 2 coming out in November and Part 3 sometime next year.Trailers that pick up speed
Terminator Zero
The first of the trailers for the week is delving into the aspect that the world is on the brink of collapse of artificial war but now told in a new form and perspective as we have recieved a new official full trailer for the upcoming Anime of Terminator Zero. The series is set in Japan in the brink of Judgment day in 1997 and follows Malcolm Lee as he has been creating a new AI system that will be in competition with the organization of Skynet. Soon he will find himself and his three children being pursued by an unknown Robot Assassin and in the process a mysterious soldier has been sent from the year 2022 to protect him. So in my personal opinion, I do enjoy the terminator series a fair amount, The original and Sequel are all time classics, the 3rd had some interesting ideas but felt a little messy and Salvation I know for the likes of Christian Bales epic meltdown at someone working on the film. Gynesis I liked a fair bit (even if the big twist was unveiled in the trailer) and I like the form Dark Fate went and wonder what caused such the massive hate but I think that a new anime form of this series does look cool and interesting and be cool to see a different perspective of the world of robot assassins from the future and it is not long until you can as this series will be released on Netflix on August 29th.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
The juice is about to be loose with this next trailer on the list as dropping out of nowhere and without even needing to say his name 3 times, the ghost with the most has appeared with an all new trailer for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. The film will be set 36 years after the original and see 3 generations of Deetz family return to Winter River after a tragedy took place. Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious daughter Astrid, discovers the model of the town in the attic and accidentally gets herself trapped in the underworld and Lydia will have to call upon the the demon that tormented her all those years ago to help her in getting her back. SO I think in some ways that the original is a classic from the mind of Tim Burton and what I have seen so far from the trailers, it is looking like they are trying to keep it similar in the strange and wacky tone with a lot of new and colourful places to see in the process and it actually looks decent and hopefully will be a fun zany dark comedy when the film releases on September 6th.
Dune Prophecy
Speaking of a legacy, the next trailer that has dropped is with a return to a film series that just dropped earlier this year but will be taking us way way back to the past before the tales were foretold as we have recieved a new trailer for the upcoming series of Dune Prophecy. The series will be set 10,000 years before the events of the recent duology and follow sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnens they combat forces and that may threaten the future of humanity and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. So the likes of the Dune film are interesting cause I can see where the appeal and spectacle really show and I have my thoughts on them in general (mostly positive with some issues that I will delve into in a double feature review real soon) and so far it looks like it is providing the grand scale and visual spectacle that the films did and so far does not look to bad. It will have to be seen how it all turns out when the series premieres sometime this November.
Alien Romulus
The final trailer for the week is taking us to a place where no one can hear you scream and where you will feel the fear of the ultimate lifeform as dropping out of nowhere on Thursday, we have a new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi of Alien Romulus. Set between the events of the original and Aliens, this will follow a group of Space colonists who, while scavenging a derelict space station, will soon come face to face and a fight to survive against the most terrifying life form in Space. Its been seen the likes of the Alient franchise has tried many times in the film side to reach the fear and highs of the original 2 films and there has been attempts with a mixed outcome with films and games (with one I will always see as a success being 2014s Alien Isolation that I am still waiting for a sequel to) but what I have seen so far of this new entry looks really exciting and a return to form. Granted I am keeping my expectations at a respectful level to not overblow my appeal but I am sure it will be worth a check out when the film releases into cinemas on August 16th.
News to hopefully see through the storm
the many awards from the nominees of Emmy's
So on the news side of things, we are starting with the early elements of this projected series of award nominees making its presence known over these next few months and it is starting with the series of the upcoming Emmy's. On Wednesday this week we saw the nominees for the show unveiled with some surprises, big nominees and some snubs and I am not going to go in depth on this one (but I may near the time predict what will win but its a slim chance with this compared to Game Awards and Oscars) but Let me delve into the big winners in the nominations.
So it seems that the series that has spawned the biggest amount of award nominations came in the form of the Disney+/FX series of Shogun with a total of 25 nominations including best drama series which is totally deserving of the awards it deserved of being strong and successful of its craftsmanship. Following this the 10 most awarded shows at this years Emmy's sees coming in 2nd with 23 nominations is with The Bear. Comin in with the 3rd most nominated series is with Only Murders in the Building with 21 nominations (which also finally got Selena her first Emmy nomination (about time I say). Coming in 4th is the new True Detective season of Night Country with 19 nominations, 5th highest is the final season of the Crown with 18 nominations, 6th highest with 17 nominations is SNL and tied for the 7th highest with 16 Nominations each is The Morning Show, Mr and Mrs Smith, Hacks and Fallout (which fair play to Fallout for continuing the trend of video game adaptations getting some award recognition). I think they all are well deserving of the award recognition and it will be worth seeing how things works out. Sure I have seen some complaints about the likes of some shows and actors getting snubbed (one I have seen is Emma Stone for The Curse) and there is some I feel that a lot of the award categories for the actors seem a little one sided with being made up of 1 or 2 shows compared to an even mix of a few for each category but I cannot delve too much into them really to give my opinions on most of them but I guess we will see how the awards play out come the 16th of September.
But I like to know your own thoughts on all of these nominations and if you are more inversed with all of these shows of what do you think deserved awards and what was the biggest snubs or surprises of the nominees? Let me know all your thoughts and opinions of them down below.
The Bros may be back to bring some comic book wars
Next up on the news discussions of the week is with a little bit of some discussions for the basis of the ever continous world of Superhero media and we are talking on the massive success that is the MCU. Now it has been said by many that the likes of the MCU has been on a decline for the last little bit since Endgame and have some success stories and appealing things in there including Loki, Shang Chi, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Guardians and many more and most case from everything I have seen and heard Deadpool is going to be added to that and be a course corrector in the process for the continously growing future and now there is some news from earlier this week that may provide some massive excitement in general. According to the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, it has been discussed that the upcoming 2 new Avengers films may have found the directors for them and it is in the form of the Russo Brothers. Now they are no stranger to the MCU as they have directed both Winter Soldier and Civil War and have also directed the 2 part epic of Infinity War and Endgame themselves so it seems like it could be huge if they come back to handle the massive project that may not even see every Avenger from the recent phases and beforehand all appear in these massive films. However it is important to note about the concern of some of their recent films they have worked on have had a bit of a mixed opinion of appeal and reception so it will have to be seen if they can pull off the magic again for these next 2 films. At the moment it is just rumblings of being in talks to direct the projects but I am sure that we will get the confirmation next weekend when Comic Con is hitting the information superhighway and we will see all the confirmed rumours and future things to look forward to (if the last story doesn't do so)
But what are your opinions of the Russo Brothers coming back to helm the Avengers films again and do you see them pulling it off, also which post Endgame project of theirs and of the MCU have you enjoyed the most? Let me know your thoughts on everything in the comments and lets discuss them there.
The Covenant has fallen but may rise again
So this one is going to be a very brief announcement discussion but it is in relation to another video game adaptation that has seen a release this year with a bit of an update announcement and a possible outcome from it all but it was announced on Thursday evening that it has been seen the Halo series on Paramount+ has been cancelled after 2 seasons on the streaming service and not move forward with a 3rd season on said streamer. Most case on the reason for the cancellation may have to do with low viewing numbers but it could also be the mixed reception for the series in general with many complaints levelled at the non faithful source material that saw Master Chief removing his helmet a lot and also even.... clapping Alien cheeks when he is supposed to have no sex drive. It is however not the planned end of the series as it seems that Microsoft, Xbox and 343 are looking to shop it around to some other streamers to continue the series or even to soft reboot it and it may be a possible rumour right now that Oscar Winning Director Christopher Nolan want to revive the series on HBO Max as he is a fan of the series and could be something he could work on with his brother Johnathon who worked with him on Westworld and his brother having been a big producer of the popular Fallout adaptation so it seems like it could be in some safe hands. At the moment with that though is that this is just some bit of a speculation and we will have to see what will come of this series that started off a mess but saw potential improvement in the 2nd season but only time will tell if Chief will be back to finish the fight.
But what are your own thoughts on the cancellation of the series and do you see some big studio and creators pick it up and give it the adaptation it deserves? Let me know what you think down below in the comments.
The Mouse may have been caught in a trap
The final story for this week has been a little bit of a story that appeared at the very end of last week that came and went with not much fanfare and is surprising given the massive concern that it could occour and it involves the aspect of hacks. We have seen some big name companies over the last year or 2 receive a form of some really bad hacks to their company with the 2 most known was the Rockstar hack in 2022 that saw early gameplay footage of the upcoming GTA6 being leaked online long before they gave a proper unveiling of the game and the 2nd was just recently at Christmas last year when the game company of Insomniac Games had a data breach that had a leak of their release plans for the next few years as well as private and personal info being taken and compromised and now it looks like another big name has seen one happen to them and this comes in the form of the massive corporation of Disney. At the end of last week a group of hackers seemed to have accessed and stolen files from the servers at Disney with around 1TB of content being held for ransom and to be leaked onto the internet if demands are not met and since then, not much other news has come from this ordeal. Now this is what I meant at the end of the 2nd story of some possible confirmed announcements before the events of next weeks comic con would be affected with stuff from Marvel and Lucasfilm (or even as far as info for the upcoming D23 expo next Month or September) so it is unclear of what this ransom is or what information they have in the TB of content. It may have also been resolved with little fanfare offline but things are uncertain so it will have to be seen what comes from all of this but it is a shame when some things that are set for a big reveal get spoiled by those that spread these messy things that affect so many people.
But what are your thoughts on all of this ordeal, do you see this as having been resolved offline or are they keeping quiet and leaking it to the world when they least expect it and what do you think could be on that TB of content? Let me know what your opinions are on these down below.
A special message
This is just a little side bit and a bit of a special segment but while this piece will be out before then and before next weeks episode, there is still as aspect that even through it all I want to wish the happiest of Birthdays to the one that I love to call Starlight. It is hard to imagine that another year has passed and you still look so beautiful and get more pretty with every passing day and I want to thank you for always being there most of the time and supporting me through it all as things have not been so easy but just knowing you are there is more then enough and it is a case that if given a chance that I would give up eternal life, would give up so many lifetimes and provide every chance of travelling back in time to where it all began just to relive it all and fall in love with you all over again as I do every single day and I wish you the happiest of birthdays and to many more and for thanking you for being a part of this world cause it would not be so great without you in it at all and I will Love you always no matter what that I could not find it in me to find anyone else and would want to be by your side for the rest of my days.
But now with all of that this brings us to the end of the 73rd Episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you have enjoyed listening to what I have to talk on this week. Let me know your thoughts on everything that was discussed down below but as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you in the next Episode :)
Take care, keep being you, signing off,
Sam H :)
