Weird Mind News Room Episode 86: Oct 14th - 20th.

*do you need assistance with some music*

Hello and welcome to everyone to the newest edition of the weekly series of the Weird Mind News Room where this week we will be delving into more of all things media with a fair few New Releases, some amount of trailers and a slightly quieter news week, But without waiting too much time, let us get into the content of all things media.

The Wild New Releases

Movies
The Wild Robot

So we start off of this weeks new releases with one of the most anticipated animated films of the fall season and the 2nd animated film to come out within the last few weeks that has a focus on robots as we head to the studio of Dreamworks to delve into their next big animated project that will show that reprogramming can have some positive affects as we have the new animated film of The Wild Robot. The plot for this title will follow a character named Roz (Lupita Nyong'o), a helper robot who finds itself stranded on a deserted island after a bad storm and will soon reactivate and learn to survive and adapt to its new surroundings where she will soon build relationships with the animals of the island as well as become a parental figure to a orphaned gosling. But when the company that created the robot learns it survived and active and looks to get them back, it will be up to Roz to protect her new home and newfound family from total destruction. Reception to this new film has garnered some universal acclaim with praise to the narrative, characters, humour, beautiful animation and its heart that I have heard this film will make people cry (and if the first trailer did that to me back when it came out then I am going to be a sobbing mess watching this) and given this film has already seen a sequel greenlit then I am all for that and if you want to check it out for yourself (and probably have a good cry similar to another animated film about emotions from this year) then you can catch it out now in cinemas.

Smile 2

But if animation is not much of your interest from this week and would much rather have something with a bit more of a horror tone to it, then thankfully you are in luck in that regard, as after releasing the original film that was based from a short about 2 years ago with some unsettling method of marketing and turned out well, the evil entity with the decrepit smirk is taking things to the massive stage and audience as we have the release of the sequel of Smile 2. This film will follow on from the original but instead focus on global pop superstar of Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) who is about to embark on a world tour after a bit of a snag with some substance abuse in the past from a tragic event. But soon things start to become a lot more intense as she starts to experience some increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events and starting to become overwhelmed by these horrors and pressures of fame, she must soon face her dark past in order for her to reclaim her life before everything spirals out of control. Reception to the sequel has alsoc garnered some well recieved reception with praise to the bigger scope of the simple concept, its scares and performances and more expansion of the lore of this entity, and if you want a bit of a good spook then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.

The Apprentice

So on the basis of this next film that is releasing is one that may be a hot button topic of conversation given as to what is going on over in the states involving the focus of said project as we learn of the origins of the art of the deal as we have the new biographical film of The Apprentice. The film will follow the early career of a young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan) in the 1970s and 80s New York where he will be put under the spell of cutthroat lawyer of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong) who will see the prospects of the perfect protégé with Trump who may have raw ambition, hunger for success and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win. Reception to the film has also seen some well recieved reception to the film with praise to the filming techniques and performances (particularly of Sebastian Stan as the young Don) and even with a glowing review that if they say its wrong then it may be worth a watch and if you are interested in learning the art of the deal yourself then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.

Woman of the Hour
The last of the new films for this week is delving into another film with a true story to the whole ordeal and one with a darker tale being told as we have the directorial debut of Anna Kendrick with her new film of Woman of the Hour. The film will tell the story of Cheryl Bradshaw (Kendrick), who back in the 1970s Los Angeles found herself as a contestant on the popular series of the Dating Game where she will find herself matched with a suitor named Rodney Alcala, but unbeknownst to Cheryl, the person she has found herself on a date with has a dark past and a fair bit of blood on their hands. Reception to this directorial debut has seen some very strong positive reception with praise to the performances, direction, production and retelling of the story that may be well known from one perspective but given it a new light on the subject and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch this new film now on Netflix.

Video Games
A Quiet Place: The Road ahead

On the first of the games for this week it brings up the elements that we can get heated in the likes of online gaming and in a lot of world of games with narratives full of dialogue, but in the form of this new title, it will be a case about how silence is key, as we are returning to the universe where everything went quiet from earlier this year and taking the role on how we would handle it as we return to the world of A Quiet Place with a new game of The Road Ahead. This new title will have you take on the role of a character named Alex Taylor, a asthmatic college student who is a survivor amongst the world overrun by alien creatures (dubbed Death Angels) who run by the use of sound with their enhanced hearing who must survive in a world after the death of her Boyfriend leaves her on her own to defend herself and follow her journey across more then 100 days of a dangerous world. So as of writing, similar to the Until Dawn remake / remaster from 2 weeks ago, this game has not garnered really any reviews as of yet though what I have seen online from some user reviews is that the game is well recieved with praise to the story, gameplay and audio mechanics and worldbuilding, though some critiques on the likes of some graphical and techincal issues with running the game (mainly from the PC port, consoles unknown at this time) but if you want to experience this dangerous world for yourself then you can play this game now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

But the last of the new releases for this week is something that will be a bit more louder and bombastic as it is time to party and may also bring the end of some friendships as well as we are heading to the mushroom kingdom for the biggest party so far with the newest title of Super Mario Party Jamboree. This new party game will have you and your friends teaming up or duking it out across 7 new party boards and over 80+ minigames to see who is the ultimate superstar and even to duke it out with over 30 players online to see who will be the ultimate party player. Reception to this new entry has been very well recieved with praise of the boards, minigames and roster and being one of the best Mario Party games since the Gamecube and early Wii era and if you are up for a party then you can play it now on Nintendo Switch

Trials and Trailers

The Monkey
on the first of the trailers for this week is taking us to a realm of horror as coming off of the recent release of another adaptation from this horror novelist and the next film from the filmmaker with one of the best uses of marketing for a film in a long time, we have recieved a new trailer for the first full proper look at the upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King Short story of The Monkey. The film will follow twins of Hal and Bill who come across a vintage wind up toy monkey in their fathers home but start to notice strange and unexpected deaths start to unfold around them. They rid of the toy and go their separate ways but when the death begin to reoccour, they will need to reunite and find a way to destroy the cursed Item. So the likes of King Adaptations can have that array of a hit or miss appeal but I feel with the likes of this is that coming off of Osgood previous film of Longlegs and it being produced by horror director James Wan, I do feel there may be some hope with this adaptation and it looks weird, over the top and nuts but could be worth a check out and we will see how it all comes together when the film releases into cinemas from February 21st next year.

Wallace and Gromit Vengeance most fowl
Its time to get out the crackers and cheese for this next small teaser of the week as after nearly 2 decades since their last big film out and 15 years since their last long form short, everyone's favourite cheese loving inventor and his faithful canine companion are back once again as we have recieved a proper first look at the new film of Wallace and Gromit with Vengenace most fowl. The plot will see Gromit become concerned of Wallace's dependency on his inventions be justifibly proven when he invents the 'Smart Gnome' that will soon develop a sinister mind of its own. When it emerges that a vengeful foe from the past may be the mastermind behind all of this, it falls to Gromit to battle these sinister forces and save his master .... or else Wallace may never invent again. It has been a long time coming for a new Feature length Wallace & Gromit since the Oscar winning first film of Curse of the Were Rabbit and I have been very excited to see this come along after the release of (to me) the very good Chicken Run sequel and I for one cannot wait to check this film out and its not too long away as it will release over here on Christmas day and then internationally on Netflix from January 3rd.

Invincible Season 3
For the next trailer for this week and the last of the animation trailers is taking us to the realm of the heroes and taking a bit more of a mature approach with the outcome and that things like this take time but until they drop some plot and info we have recieved a new trailer teaser for the upcoming 3rd season of Invincible. Now the trailer does not show us much but is a call back to a trailer for the 2nd season but with this one giving a vague info dump about everything that happened in the 2nd season and how from the devastating outcome of the finale will lead to Mark becoming a new icon of a hero for the world alongside the new responsibilities of a new relationship and his own sidekick but will soon need to face his past in order to protect the future and the people he loves. So I will be the case I have been a little out of the loop with this series but I have seen elements and need to give a catch up and from the case it is poking fun at itself that these show take time (as well as the 4 month mid break that everyone got mad about) but you will not have to worry about that with this next season and its not too far away as the 3rd season will be premiering on Amazon Prime from February 3rd next year.

The Electric State
Moving over to the realm of the sci-fi world and from the other massive streamer again, we are delving into a world of machines and conflicts with humans stuck in the middle as the Russo brothers have come along once again before the comic book mayhem they will be delving into soon as they unveiled at New York comic con the first trailer for their upcoming new film of The Electric State. The film will be set in an alternate history version of 1994 America and based on the graphic novel of the same name (though they supposedly have gone uncredited for unknown reasons) and will follow Michelle (Milly Bobby Brown) who is approached by a small robot who claims to know her missing brother and with the help of the bot and some other survivors including a man named Keats (Chris Pratt). Now the basis from what I have gathered online is that the film is going to much in the realm of detracting from the original source material and seems to be not showing the point of the book and more of the likes of it being an action film with some big name stars in the role (including the one actress that is in nearly every Netflix project at this point and a fair amount have been a bit meh) but I feel it may be worth a watch and could turn out good but I guess we will find out overtime as the film will be releasing onto Netflix from the 14th of March next year.

Dune Prophecy
For the 2nd last trailer for this week is taking us back to the power of control with spices and political conflicts that go on in the background as also coming to us from NYCC, we have recieved an all new trailer for the upcoming prequel series to the award winning novel and film series with Dune Prophecy. The series will be set 10,000 years before the events of the recent films and follows sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they combat forces that will threaten the future of humanity and from this survival will form the fabeled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. So it seems like the case that most people's film of the year is mainly focused on the 2nd part of this film duology (and a 3rd film that will be beginning to film in 2026) (will say it is one of the best films of 2024 but am not sure if its my no.1 spot but is in top 10 for the moment) but it seems this series has been overshadowed by the film and another acclaimed series being released at the moment (which I can agree the Penguin is amazing) but I think this looks like it could be something special and help build more of a narrative and world building to the films and thankfully we have now recieved a release date and its not too long away as it will be dropping onto Max in the US and Sky Atlantic here in the UK and Ireland on November 17th

The wolf Man

The last of the trailers that I can cover and find (there is one other one of the one for the Strangers Chapter 2 but it has not brought much appeal to me) and is also coming to us from NYCC is taking a new look at an iconic character of monster movie history as Blumhouse has brought us a new look at the upcoming new adaptation of The Wolf Man. The plot follows family man Blake (Christopher Abbott) who relocates himself and his family from San Francisco to Oregon after inheriting his childhood home from his father who has disappeared and is presumed dead. Soon the family is stalked and attacked by a werewolf on the farmland and it seems that while they may be safe and barricaded in the home, it may be a lot more dangerous then first thought as Blake begins to start showing changes. So the likes of these trailers for this film have been a bit of a mixed appeal as it seems a little low stakes, the film is releasing in a month where the likes of the appeal is low and there was a leak of the creatures look from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios that looked more of different creatures then of a Wolf Man but I have the small hope that it could turn around as the film is being made by the director that gave us the surprisingly great and deep Invisible Man film from a few years ago so maybe it may actually be good but I guess we will have to see how it all comes about when the film howls into cinemas from January 17th next year.

Do you need news?

Game Freak may have been a little bit more freaky from the leaks

So we start off the news stories for this week with a story that kind of has came and went from earlier this week and this revolves around a topic that has been brought up a few times with the inevitable outcome which is with some leaks from massive studios. In the past 2 years we have seen this with Rockstar with early build versions of the next GTA, Insomniac last Christmas that leaked the release plan of new titles and some builds and personal info from the studio and earlier this summer with a data breach from Disney, but now it looks like another studio has also seen their content being leaked and this one is coming from one of the most profitable brands and franchises in the world and has some very..... surprising leaks and this comes in the form of the studio of Game Freak. Now many may not know too much of the name of the company but they may know the games they would be involved in the development of and that of course is with the massive global IP of Pokémon and its a case where some of their file leaks may earn the latter half of their name. So earlier this week or late last week, the company experienced a data breach and saw some of their files obtained which included some serious items like personal information which is a stressful ordeal to sort out and have to face cause no one should have that info stolen at all and also saw a lot of builds for other games that are in the works, completed or were scrapped. But it was not the only information that was taken as it also delved into some of the unseen and strange lore for some of the Pokémon and one of them has seen quite the discussion online involves the Pokémon of Typhlosion and the whole ordeal of it being based on more Japanese folklore that saw the likes of humans and Pokémon co-existing and doing more then just "training" and "battling" where it may have seen trickery and the element of some cross species (yes human and Pokémon spawns exist and I apologize for that image that is now in your head) which is quite the elaborate lore for a fun game of capturing strange creatures and make them do battle. Now the company has come out and mentioned that they are aware and was due to a 3rd party breach and they working to resolve the issue, but it does raise the question about if this was all done in the form of connecting back to Asian folklore, or if the freak in game freak was really meaning the elaborate and more strange adult lore that has been established and if any other Pokémon from the 1,164 created creatures so far but I guess we may learn more overtime or else those are about to become some well kept secrets.

But what do you think of this whole ordeal and do you feel that there is more to this hack then initially seen? Let me know what you think below.

Norse Reworks and Ancient creature Horrors get some updates as well as some cartoons.
The next of the stories for this week is with some updates and release dates for the realm of animation and on some of the realm of the Video game adaptation News that have dropped earlier this week and I will be giving a focus to them in this little news story

So the first off is with a story that I mentioned that was announced earlier this year and actually didn't bring up last week and that was the upcoming film adaptation of the PS4 title of Until Dawn. Now the case was that the film had actually announced that it had wrapped production with a behind the scenes image of some of the cast and director of David F. Sandberg and it soon began the speculation of how long it will be before we will see this hitting the big screen. Well it was not too long after this film wrapped that we got that answer as on Tuesday of this week they announced that the film adaptation of this horror title now has a release date set for April 25th 2025, just coming in a few months before the original version of the title celebrates its 10th anniversary. Now all of this sounds well and good and I look forward to seeing this take on the film with a smaller group and some familiar faces but I question if the appeal of said project will be present for this, given this news comes in just under 2 weeks since the recent remaster/ remake release which has had a bit of a mixed or underwhelming appeal due to some technical issues, lack of new content and changes that people dislike and the very high price point and may harm some of the appeal, but I feel that it could see the fans of the original game come out to support if its the same tone of story with the characters or if its a different group of characters but I guess we will find out when the marketing starts to take shape over the next few months.

The 2nd of some release date information is coming to us from the studio that seems to be against animation, iconic characters and everything that I have heard that has been getting really strong reception just gets shelved for tax write offs and loses the studio even more money and that is with Warner Bros. Now this does not relate to gaming news (as is one other just announced release date) but rather we have an update for one of the project from Warner that was rumoured to be shelved and connected in some form to one that is supposedly shelved but needs to be released (release Coyote vs ACME Warner) and this comes in the form of another fully animated Looney Tunes cartoon of The Day the Earth Blew Up. Now the film has been given screenings at some film festivals and other forms and has garnered some very strong critical reception and many had wondered when we would see the film but thankfully that has now been answered as earlier this week it was given a confirmed winter release and is noe projected to hit cinemas from February 28th 2025. Now that is so far confirmed for the US and most case will probably be the same for international markets probably but seeing a new Looney Tunes film in cinemas is well worth it (I feel it was a long time since one but then I forgot Space Jam 2 was a thing) but I am looking forward to that all the same.

This last release date is literally coming just a few minutes as I am writing this but this will be some hot news to come from the ongoing New York Comic Con but we are talking briefly on the MCU and on one of the next projects to be releasing. So while we have the current series of Agatha All along (that is surprisingly turning out way better then expected) and then the next Captain America in Feb, there is one other project releasing within the next 6 months that people may be forgetting and that is with the new series based on daredevil as it was confirmed for a release in March. Well now we have a proper announcement of a date as they announced at NYCC the series will begin streaming episodes from the 4th of March so we now have a clear idea of when it is. At the moment that is all that has been given as no trailer or project of a 2 episode premiere or how long of series it is as its been hinted between a total of as minimum of 6-9 to as high as 18 episodes for this first season, but I guess we will learn more overtime and if it becomes a case they drop a trailer in the next few hours I will add it to the video episode or put it with next weeks blog but I guess we will have to see what comes from this event.

Now this last bit of news relating to some gaming news is coming to us on an update to a project that has been in some form of development for the last little while and that is with the planned Amazon Prime series based on the popular franchise of God of War. For the last little bit and around the time that the Horizon series with Netflix was announced, there was work being done on a series based on the journey of Kratos and it was unclear if it would follow the original trilogy mythology or the recent duologies mythology and the show had a showrunner with Rafe Judkins (Wheel of Time) and Writers with Hawk Otsby's and Mark Fergus (Children of Men, Iron Man, Expanse) and from what I have heard it was going well... until news just this week where it was announced that they have left the project and the series is now getting a new reboot with the company. It is unclear as to why they left the  project as it was told that they had done a fair few script drafts and all of them have been seen as great from both studios of Sony and Amazon. Now this will see this project be pushed back most likely as they look for a new showrunner and writers but in most case I will say like the Horizon series that was shelved for the time being that it will come around and for them to take all the time to make it epic. I feel an option they could do is with the team that worked on the acclaimed fallout series could step in as the showrunner and work on it or get some that worked on some well regarded game adaptations alongside the studio of Santa Monica to make it a clear vision but I have a bit of good faith that they will turn this around and we will see the Ghost of Sparta take on all the gods that stand in his way soon.

But what do you think of all these updates and release dates, are you excited for any of them and who do you think they will get involved with the new version of the God of War series? Let me know what you think down below and lets discuss it there.

I don't think this will be much of a psycho then expected
The last of the news stories for this week is the announcement of a project just being brought to attention within the last few hours as of writing this episode and is coming in the form of a remake that will probably provide a lot of divisive opinion (maybe to the level of the divisiveness to a attempt of a recreation of an adaptation poster for a film version of said film). So if you have been aware over the last little while or have seen a bit of the masculinity (or case of Sigma/Beta Male) memes then you know one of the fils that has been a massive presence in this has been the 2000 film of American Psycho and Christian Bale's performance as the main lead of Patrick Bateman and it has stood the test of time of a cult classic film even over a forgettable sequel that is only in name and a stage production that has Matt smith in the title role at one point.... but it looks like this may be about to change as it was announced that we may be getting a new remake or reboot of this film for a new generation of audiences. At the moment not much besides the announcement has been made besides who will be behind the camera shooting the project and this comes in the form of director Luca Guadagino who is known for his films of Call me by your Name and this years Challengers film (a film I think is good but kind of disappointing) and his upcoming title of Queer which may be a decent choice for the project in general. However, I feel the likes of making a remake of a classic film like American Psycho may be a bit more difficult as the original is iconic in the present day and them trying to make it in a more modern setting now will be a lot of debate and concern probably that it may portray a more negative aspect or not going far enough in the concept of a successful businessman in the day and then a serial killer in the night but I guess we will have to see the direction it will go in from here on out. Now at the moment there is no projected release date or whole will play the main lead (or if it will connect to the 2 films) but I guess if I hear anything down the line I will update in a later piece.

But what do you think of this announced reboot, would you watch a new take on American Psycho and who would you cast in the title role? Let me know your ideas below in the comments.

And now with all of that, this brings us to the end of Episode 86 of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed listening to the ramblings of a more shorter week (I may add a little more to this in the form of a special segment to shout out a vote for an award and for a certain special someone who has a new item and model out for people to observe in amazement and even to buy the model of, maybe more the latter but I will look into it). As always let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed down below on everything talked about this week and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday doing many great things and I will see you all in the next episode :)

Take care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
