Weird Mind News Room Episode 124: July 7th - 13th
*Music for looking up to hope*
Hello again to all of your wonderful people on this part of the Information superhighway once again to the newest episode of Weird Mind News Room where this week we have a selection of some new releases, a couple of trailers and a few oddity news stories to talk on, so lets not get too much into the introduction and lets fly into all things media for this week.
A symbol of New Releases
Movies
Superman (2025)
So we start off the releases for this week with one of the big ones for this year, one that will be a symbol of possible hope in a time when everything is turning quite bleak, a hero the world needs, even with the subtext and some naysayers and the one that advocates for truth, Justice and A better tomorrow as after a bit of a rocky road of what came before, it is time to restart the saga of the new formed DCU as we have the release of the all new take on Superman. This new take on the popular character will see him have already been established as a superhero for around 3 years now and will see Clark Kent or Superman go on a journey to reconcile with his Kryptonian Heritage with the aid of his adoptive family in Kansas and also deal with the threat of dangers like the powerful Lex Luthor and crossing path with other powerful Meta Humans. Reception on this new take on the hero has seen some very strong positive reception with praise to the performances (particularly Corenswet as Superman), action, chemistry, writing and being a solid starting point to a new DCU, though some have critiqued it for being a little overstuffed with characters and references and could be a lot to take in at once but it seems like we may be in a good start for the future of this franchise and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.
Tv Shows
Creature Commandos
Now initially it was for a bit just 2 new releases for this week then I thought it was 3 for the new season of a popular comedy series but that has no release in the UK and Ireland just yet (in that case Always Sunny is now available in the US), but there was one that in this case shadow dropped this week out of nowhere with no fanfare, promotion or anything and coming out about 7 months after starting in the US but it seems to relate to the wider world of DC once again as after a long ass wait, we have finally gottten the release of the first in the DCU for shows with Creature Commandos. The series will see Rick Flagg Sr be assigned by task force leader of Amanda Waller to lead a new team of monsters who will be tasked on high stakes missions that most humans will not survive and they may not like each other at first but they will soon have to learn to work together. Reception on this series has also been given some very strong critical praise back when it first release with praise to the humour, heart, visuals, characters and being an entertaining approach to the series being all built up for the DC and if you have not checked it out yet then you can check this one out on HBO Max in the US and on Sky and Now in the UK and Ireland.
Video Games
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 Remake
As for the last of the new releases for this week is with the focus of a return to the area that would be really appealing in this sudden heavy heatwave we are currently going through (It has not be the most ideal and has been a rough one to relax, sleep or just walk to anywhere) but in this case we can do it for the shelter of our homes for this version, as its time to grab the decks, grind the rails and shred the Asphalt as we have the release of the 2 batch of remakes with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4. This of course will be the updated version of the beloved entries in the classic skating series as you skate and shred across vast locations across the world and even the fictional lands including the land of a sea absorbent sponge and even play as many character including the slayer of demons in many different ways and tricks in how you see fit. Reception on the new remakes seems to be doing well in reception with praise to the updated visuals additions and some new features that appeal with some of the minor issues seeming to stem to some performance drops as well as some of the odd additions like odd load times and other small issues but if you want to play it for yourself then you can play now on PS4/5, Xbox One / Series X/S, Switch 1/2 and PC.
Titanium Trailers
Spongebob Movie: the search for Squarepants
So we head to trailers and the first one may not be the longest of trailers but I felt since it was a new project and it was all new footage for it, I felt I will make an exception with it as we are heading to the deep parts of the ocean for this first trailer and while we may be on the surface for now we are heading deeper in this new project as everyones favourite absorbent sponge is back for another new film adventure as we have recieved the first teaser for the new film of SpongeBob SquarePants with The Search for SquarePants. The film will see SpongeBob looking to prove his bravery to Mr Krabs with the sponge following a mysterious Swashbuckling ghost pirate of The Flying Dutchman on a seafaring adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the Ocean. SO it is a case that I can say that we have had quite the array of Spongebob films with the original being an all time classic, the 2nd film being an enjoyable time, Sponge on the Run being ok but not overly great and then the 2 side character focused ones being disappointing to actually quite enjoyable and in the case of this one this may be a decent watch from the looks of things but it is a mixed array on how this could turn out but the visuals don't look too bad ad may be worth a fun time for the families but we will see when the film releases into cinemas from December 26th of this year.
Wednesday Season 2
Now for the 2nd trailer for this week and the first of the tv series based trailers for this week is with the focus that we have the return of a group that may be a little creepy and a bit kooky, a bit mysterious and a tiny bit spooky and maybe all together a bit ooky for this certain family, But in this case we are focusing on one member of this family who may be a little odd but seems to be showing a lot more in that regards as we are returning to the academy of nevermore once again as we have recieved a new and probably final trailer for the 2nd season of Wednesday. The new season will see Wednesday's Journey will become more darker and more complex as she will navigate family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries all while propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore Academy as she tries to stop the death of her roommate that she may be the one that causes it from a dark premonition. So in all the case with this series, I find the likes of the Addams Family as being one that has some appeal and interest when it comes around after being dormant and absent for a fair few years and in the case with this series the appeal seems to have come back with the combined acting prowess of Jenna Ortega (who could really use a win this year with her acting credits) and the mind of Tim Burton could really help it more and the case of it being shot and filmed in Ireland is also an appealing aspect and from these trailers they seem like it could be another hit season on our hands but in this case we do not have to wait too long to find out and see as we will see this new term begin in 2 parts with part 1 dropping in 3 weeks on August 6th, while Part 2 comes a month later on September 3rd.
King of the Hill Reboot
The next trailer is bringing it back to a classic series in animated adult television and in this case of the time when things were more simple has shown its worth but in this case some times have changed and those that have been away for a fair bit of time will have to come back to understand the mess of it all, with plenty of time to do so on the basis of retirement as Hank Hill has returned and we have the first trailer for the all new reboot revival of King of the Hill. The new series will be set 15 years after the events of the original and will see Hank and Peggy hill return to Arlen, Texas after working all that time in Saudi Arabia. The season will show how the town, and their friends, have changed in their absence, particularly with their son Bobby, now 21, as he navigates adulthood as a chef in Dallas Texas. Now in all case I was one that was not the most avid of King of the Hill watchers but have seen some clips and the odd episode in passing and the likes of it appeals that I may give the whole series a look into at some point. I see the case that a lot of these revival animated shows all have a case of following or having topics of the modern era in discussing like the changing of tech, politics or other means are all a focus with the likes of Futurama being another form of this in their own way but I think that it may still work itself out and I am sure will be worth a watch and it is not too long away for this one either as the series will be premiering on Disney+ and Hulu from the 4th of August.
Twisted Metal Season 2
The Next trailer is seeing a world that has gone to shit, a place that is a bit of a mess, bloody, dangerous and the locals are not the most friendly or the most sane of people, but hey, that's what comes with being a delivery driver in a form of a post apocalyptic world as John Doe, Quiet, Sweet Tooth and other wacky familiar faces are back once again as its time to rev the engines and prepare for carnage as we have the release of the trailer for the 2nd season of Twisted Metal. The season will see John and Quiet continue on their budding partnership across a post apocalyptic America where they will soon find themselves in this situation entering into the famous Twisted Metal Tournament hosted by a man known as Calypso, where contestants will find themselves in a demolition derby to the death where the last one standing or the winner of the tournament will have a chance to gain a wish of their choosing. So it is a case I have not watched a lot of the original season of the show but I have heard a lot of good things about the project itself and I am sure it will be worth a check out in due time. I know the likes that this one seems to be more in line to the games entail which is all out destructions and chaos and some of the weird and colourful characters of the games making a presence for glory and I am sure it will be a lot more bigger an crazier and more in tone to the games but I am sure we will see how it comes about and it is not too long away until then as the new season will be smashing its way on Paramount+ from July 31st.
Sausage Party Foodtopia Season 2
And the final trailer that we have for this week is with a project that started off with a film that showed the fucked up society for a product that we will often interact with in our day to day and we see some even more really weird and fucked up shit in the series that followed but it looks like the world we saw starting off as a small society for these product is much bigger then we thought as Frank the Hotdog and his friends are back once again as we have recieved the trailer for the 2nd season to Sausage Party: Foodtopia. The new season will see Frank, Barry and Sammy finding themselves exiled from Foodtopia and now will see them travel across the land and find themselves in a place known as New Foodlandia where "every food finds fulfilment", humans are now domesticated and everything is perfect, but maybe "too perfect" and soon a clash of societies is about to take place. So its a case I did watch this for a bit of the footage before in the past and I will say that I thought that the original film is quite tame in comparison to some of the very questionable decisions and choices that were made (with one scene that really goes over the line) but I feel that they have some ideas of a society of food, but I still feel there is a wonder if they had to rework this project as the original film ended with them essentially entering into the real world teasing as a film sequel but I guess it didn't go anywhere, but I am sure we will see if this follow up season will get even more messed and fucked up but I am sure we will see in due time when the new season releases in a months time on Amazon Prime on August 13th.
News from the Daily Planet
Return of a clown, A lazy Cat, A publishing newspaper and a museum job
So the first of the news stories is coming to us with the unveiling of some release date focus elements for some projects as well as one or 2 new projects that are on the way that was announced as well in the future and felt it made sense to put them all together into one story and we don't have much to focus on with this story but lets get into talking on what was announced for this week.
Now the only other release date or window focus that we have confirmed for this week is in the area of a discussion that the likes of printed media may not be fully out of publication and there is a case of a fighting chance and connects in some way to a world known for a mocumentary documentary film team for a paper company in Delaware, as the new office Spin off known as The Paper has officially gotten a set release date now on September 4th of this year that will see it be the focus of a documentary crew setting sights in an ohio publishing company known as the Toledo Truth teller as they look to resurrect themselves with new talent and volunteers in the world of changing ways that people get news from now and I am feel it could appeal more with the original creators on board, a few familiar faces from the original series appearing and a known Irish actor of Domhnall Gleeson leading this new project ad I am sure it may be well worth a look to see how it comes about and will be worth watching when the first issue launches this September.
But what do you make of these dates and announced projects, are you excited for the IT prequel and Office Spin Off, will you watch a sequel to Garfield, who do you see as a good replacement for Ritchie for the Road House, do you see Jack Black playing a character in Batman Part 2 and would you be down for a new Night at the Museum? Let me know what you think of it all down below in the comments.
The Lazy AI content will be pointless now
Now this next story is one that I will be keeping more briefly on as this is a story that I feel makes the most sense to do and it relates to an area that for a good bit of time I have been a focus in and is also a piece of a series that I am focusing on a video and blog piece that I promised someone special to me that I would make and it is to do with the concept of something that we have seen become more and more prominent lately and that is the case with AI. Now if you have been on the internet for the last 2 or so years then you may have noticed that their is a lot more of a focus in content or discussion about AI as it has slowly been trying to be implemented into everything from imagery, music, movies, shows and all sorts of things that it has even gotten to a point that many use it for stuff like getting queries or see it as more useful then an actual therapist and that is a concerning aspect for sure, but in this case I wanna talk on one are that I have personally seen a lot of use of this with and that is on the site of YouTube as over the years from some supporting of small creators or channels I watch normally or in passing, some of them have resorted to using the method of AI to pump out videos that feel lazy, loss of appeal to the original piece or creator and just often soulless but its a case of comparing that I put time and effort into everything to make the videos that sure may not be the best but having it done by a human over a bit of time and hours feels more like there is a sense of passion instead of pumping out stiff, tonally dull imagery as a form of entertainment and yet those ones get massive numbers and views and subs which just feels like success from laziness.... but that may soon be changing. It was announced earlier this week that Youtube will be implementing an approach now that AI created content will not be getting monetary funds and seems to be a case that they will only focus on giving monetization or more chances of funds with the Algorithm for not AI content. Now if the case that this does get implemented I think it will be a good thing as personally in the case when everything is just made with AI tools and just pumped out, it loses the sense of appeal and creativity and having more of a human based focused approach to it all makes a lot more sense and paying those that put so much more time and effort into editing and focus is more then appealing to me in general and I think it will work more of having more effort put into it. Now not to say I would push AI out fully as I feel you can do it in small amounts of focus but making everything with that just seems unappealing and I am sure there will be some detractors about them being silenced with AI being demonetized but I feel it is for the best but I know some will disagree with my points but that is expected so we will see how this will turn out.
But I do want to know what you think of this, do you see them getting rid of AI monetization on YouTube as a good thing or do you see it as being unfair to some and that AI is useful? let me know what you think down below.
Sinking to the depth for some drama on a game
So this last story is one that has seen a fair bit of some drama and it is coming to us in the realm of the gaming community and while this is not in the focus of the big studio publishers like Xbox or Nintendo but rather with a game studio that has a big upcoming follow up project that many are excited for but in the case of some recent news from this week there has been a fair amount of mixed responses and appeal of the hype overall for it now and this is with the project of Subnautica 2. Now for a little bit of context on this, initially the follow up was announced as far back as 2022 and its had a bit of some odd mixed discussions from backlash about it being a live service game and then was reiterated and fixed and initially confirmed to be entering early access sometime this year. Well this changed this week when it was announced now that this follow up early access has been delayed till next year to help make it work and be released to a very solid and beloved state and that was what was initially the case and we could've left it there but in this case, more new info has released and come to light that seems to stem in more of a nefarious form. This all started when the original games creators and studio heads of Unknown worlds of Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire and was replaced with a man named Steve Papoutsis by the studio of Krafton, the studio that has purchased Unknown worlds for $500 million back 3 years ago. Now the reason that this whole situation happened was a case that they were let go as they were seen as being neglectful on the upcoming title and had abandoned their responsibilities at the studio which supposedly caused delays. The aim for the studio as well was that if the set goals of productivity and revenue targets were reached that they would also have recieved a $250 Million payout with a percentage going to the rank and file developers on the studio floor and they have mentioned they were not fired due to the payout but rather the game was not in a launch quality form. This however has been debunked by the director of the first game who has said that the title was near completion and was ready for an early access launch. Now this has led to a possible case right now of the 3 that were dismissed to begin looking into a legal situation for unfair dismissal and is aiming for the $250 Million as the base number lawsuit price. Now there has been a lot of back and forth with some seeing it as being a boycott of the title because of the dismissal as the 3 that were let go were the original creators and they have put the heart and soul with the 100 employees of the studio to make the original 2 entries and this one and then other may be on Krafton's side due to some bits about memos of recent goal marks for the game from May of this year seeing it as being too Content Light to release right now but it is a bit of a drama that is currently still ongoing. Now I can't put my say into this as I am not one that has been following this games development too much but wanted to just report on this as this has been an ongoing drama in the gaming scene for the last few days and if there is any more updates or something that will come of this as a bit of a rundown or big drama that changes the narrative, I will update in a later episode.
But what do you make of this whole drama presented here, do you see the case of this dismissal being unfair and being a little shady and sinister of the company that purchased the original studio or do you see the case of the buyers having a fair judgement to fire and the original creators were in the wrong and if you were excited for this title has this changed your opinion and will you still be getting it when it comes out? let me know what you think down below.
And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the latest episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed this little round up of all of the media pieces for this week. Let me know your thoughts on everything that was discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
