Weird Mind News Room Episode 130 August 18th - 24th
*Music to help bring the peace*
Hello to all of you funny and cool people that have found themselves on this part of the Information Superhighway to the 130th edition of Weird Mind News Room where of course for this week, we will be discussing on all forms of media including a small selection of New Releases, a selection of trailers and some odd selection of News Stories, including one whether to have focus of some of the trailers or go all in on the Announcements (but may keep it to the former option), but enough of all of what to expect and lets get into talking about all of this media that we have for this week.
New Releases to bring the Peace
Movies
Eddington
So the first of the new releases for this week and in the focus of all the films all have one thing in common and that is the case that they have been released into cinemas for the last month or 2 in the states and only released now, but I guess any time now will do and in the first film, we are heading back to about 5 years ago to the time when the world stopped and had shut down and had become a case of focus that when the world stops working due to a certain virus, things will soon spiral and bring out the possible worst in people and how it seems to have changed many in some parts of the world, as Ari Aster is back once again with his 4th feature film outing with the release of his all new film of Eddington. IN this film that has no relation to the Marmalade loving bear, The film is set during the events of the recent Covid Pandemic, where it will see a stand off between a small town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and a mayor running for reelection (Pedro Pascal) and soon sparks a powder keg of chaos as soon neighbour is pitted against Neighbour in a place known as Eddington, New Mexico. Now reception on this new entry seems to be modest to decently recieved, with praise to its concept and performances (particularly with both Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal), though the film has seen a bit of a divide of either going too far in the concept or not enough and there is a bit of a divide about it all, but I am sure it can be something to well look into and dissect once time has passed and if you want to check it out for yourself, then it is already out in the states and then released now over here in Cinemas.
The Life of Chuck
The next of the new releases is one that brings the case of some of the biggest name in the realm of horror story telling giving us something more lighter in tone and in this case of focus providing a sense of whimsy and a case of how a person can shape and change peoples lives in the process as Horror Auteur Mike Flanagan and Horror Writer machine Stephen King have come together to bring one of kings more lighter stories to the big screen with the release of the new film of The Life of Chuck. The film is a collection of three separate stories linked to the life and biography of one Charles Krantz told in reverse, with beginning with his death and ending with his childhood of growing up in a haunted house, and while it is a case that he may be seen as just an ordinary man, he has great potential to being people together and change the world then he least expects it. Reception on this Stephen King story has been very well recieved with praise to the ensemble cast, story and tone and for being a feel good movie and one of the better recieved adaptations of King's stories overall and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch this film out now in cinemas.
Sorry, Baby
The last of the films for this week is with a film that provides a sense of deep meaning and reflection where things of the past may come back to scar you or may make you see some things in the present in a different light, as we are heading over again to A24 for the 2nd time for this week with the release of the new film festival acclaimed darling of Sorry, Baby. The film will follow Agnes who a few years ago had something terrible happen to them but while she deals with that ordeal, life goes on for everyone else. But soon when a friend visits on the brink of an important milestone, Agnes soon realizes how stuck she's been and will soon be a focus of a bittersweet story of finding your way after your world has come crashing down. Reception on this film has been critically acclaimed with it being a strong filmmaking debut for the main lead with a very personal and relatable story and tackling on themes in a mature and respectful manner and if you want to see what all the acclaim is all about then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.
TV Shows
Peacemaker Season 2
And the last of the new releases and for the only tv series in focus for this week is seeing us return to the realm of the superheroes, but in the focus of the new realm of heroes and universe in development but in the case of things of old hero figures getting a new focus and perspective in this instance as this particular antagonist turned anti-hero with the shiny Chromatic helmet is back with his own unique team of underdogs to help bring the bring the peace, by any means necessary, as after 3 years and one new established Universe later, we have the release of the 2nd season to the acclaimed DC tv series of Peacemaker. This season will see Chris or Peacemaker continue on his journey of becoming a vigilante superhero with his new team known as the 11th street kids, while also dealing with struggles to reconcile with his past and newfound sense of purpose while continuing his quest to kick righteous evil-doer ass in his misguided quest for peace at any cost and also dealing with the threat of being hunted down by one Rick Flagg Sr for the death of his son. Reception on this new season like the first season has been very well recieved with praise for its more over the top concept of a season while still maintaining the well dynamic character writing, performances and for it simple but understanding retconning of the first season into this 2nd season to make it part of the new DCU (which also explains the appearance of some of the characters from the recent Superman film as well) and if you are ready for bring the mother fucking Peace, then you can catch the first episode now on HBO Max in the states and here on Sky and Now Tv with a new episode releasing every Thursday or Friday Morning.
Trailers to debate about online
Keeper
So the first of the trailers that we have for this week is with the focus of some of the films still to come in the realm in the horror genre, in a year that is full of big success stories and in the basis of this next one is that while we have not known too much on the likes of what we can expect or what we can tell from this project, the likes of the person making this usually gives it the tone and well done marketing to really entice people with the concept, but also leave many confused as to what is going on, as Osgood Perkins is back again with a new full trailer look at his 2nd Horror outing for this year with a new look at this film of Keeper. Now not much is really explained to us of what to expect but what we have been given in some vague plot is the focus of a Wife finds herself isolated in a secluded remote cabin and will soon find herself fending off a presence that is of some unspeakable evil. Now I feel like in any case with a lot of focus and discussion is that with Perkins projects in mind, he keeps it very vague and really gives a sense of mystery that while his footage may not explain that much at first glance, there is a sense that their is a lot that we can probably get that is too vague to breakdown but will make sense as the days go on and I am sure there will be a bit of anticipation and will be well worth seeing if this project will another big Horror hit for this year but I guess we will see in due time with the film making its presence known in cinemas from the 14th of November.
Good Boy
Now for the focus of a 2nd trailer for this week and the last of the Horror centric films that we have for this week is the case that we have seen many a perspective to the likes of a horror tale, whether its a murder mystery, a found footage affair, or even the realm of the psychological or even this year from the perspective of the spirit themselves, but there is one realm in this case that we have yet to really see much of a perspective on and that is the case of seeing some of the horrors from the point of view of Man's best friend as we have recieved a trailer for a new take on seeing horror with the trailer for the film of Good Boy. The film will follow a man named Todd who following the death of a family member will see himself and his faithful dog Indy relocate to an old rural farmhouse owned by Todds late grandfather, that even though it was reported to be haunted, its seems that Todd ignores those warnings. However, Indy soon starts to see disturbing supernatural entities all around the home that may be invisible to humans but to this dog it is all too real. Unable to communicate with his owner of his fears and for his safety, Indy must confront and understand about these malevolent forces threatening his owner and as the dangers, the dogs loyalty is put to the ultimate test in a desperate attempt to protect his owner. Now this is a film that has been quite the talking point for the last few weeks as it seems in a lot of discussions in most discussions online that no matter if its a real or even fictionalized narrative, that no one wants to see an animal, especially a dog in pain or injured and probably explains the massive increase in the wondering if the dog will make it out ok by the end. It sounds like a unique presence and nearly feels like a live action take on Courage the cowardly dog and it seems like most critics so far are in agreement and has also been labelled as one of the most heartfelt horrors of recent memory but I am sure if anything bad does happen to this dog, we riot, but I guess we will see the outcome of all this by the time the film is unleashed into cinemas from the 10th of October.
Fallout Season 2
So the next selection of trailers will mainly consist of titles that were unveiled during the big event of this week of Gamescom and have decided to do some of the ones of the highlights that I see instead of going deep into all that was announced (bar probably one thing I will bring up in the news section) but in the next trailer will see us return to a world that has gone to a bit of a disarray and putting the society of a world frozen in time, but in the location where a good portion of this new season will take us, it will have to be wondered if the whole thing was rigged from the start as we are heading back to the far reaches of the wastelands as we have recieved the first trailer for the upcoming 2nd season of the video game adaptation of Fallout. Now the new season will follow on from the end of the first and from the tease in the finale will see Lucy and Dogmeat accompany Cooper across the wastelands towards a place known as New Vegas in order for her to discover the truth about her father and of Vault-tec, Cooper to reflect and resolve the scars of his past and in the process will be Maximus preparing himself for war and a growing conflict set to happen. SO it really does seem the case that the original season was a surprise success with the big name talent and performers involved and it really does seem like that are making the production well worth the scope and appeal and respect of the franchise and given it is now taken the audience to the place based on the most popular of the games themselves, I am sure it will have a wide appeal to many and I am sure it could be another success on their hands but I guess we will see how it all comes together when the journey continues on Amazon Prime from December 17th.
Resident Evil Requiem
Now for the game focused trailers, we first turn to a title that was the last big unveiling of the summer games fest and we have been brought back with some new look at the footage that delves deeper into a strange mystery unfolding as it will soon be time to return to a place that was lost to the ruins of the past as we have recieved a new brief gameplay trailer look at Resident Evil Requiem. The game will have you play as FBI tech analyst Grace Ashcroft who is dispatched to investigate a series of strange death discovered at the Wrenwood hotel, a location where her mother Alyssa had died 8 years prior as well as the case also finding yourself back in Raccoon City, which has been about 3 decades since the destruction of the city at the end of RE3 and try to learn the secrets and solve this mystery of a virus taking a toll of many innocent lives. So I remember the case of this project being something well worth looking into and I know a few friends of mine that are very excited for this new entry and while this trailer doesn't show too much but provides a sense of speculation on some things like who is the man in the hood, the reveal also came with some look at a demo from the event and there is a creature in this title that is quite..... disturbing but it so far looks really visually great, the horrors look set to be good and if it is like the aesthetic of that Doll House from village then we are in for a scary old time (and the theory discussions will continue with friends excited for this) but we will keep it as such until the title releases on for the moment PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC from February 27th next year.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
The next of the game trailers for this one is seeing the return of an iconic hero making a return to the gaming scene and will tell more of a much bigger world and tell of his legacy over the decades, all put together one brick at a time, as after more then a decade since we had been to this IP in this form, it will be time once again to don the cape and cowl once more and become one with the Knight as we have the reveal of the newest Lego game in the form of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. In this new entry that is somewhat of its own separate canonicity to the Lego Batman IP, you will once again take on the mantle of the Batman and explore across a vast Gotham City, partake in combat seemingly inspired by the Arkham and play through a new story inspired by a selection of films, comics, shows and games of the world greatest detective. Now I have been one that has been waiting for an all new LEGO game like this for a while as it has been about 3 or so years since the Skywalker Saga came out and while it was very impressive it has seen a bit of a mixed appeal as time has gone on and even longer since a new entry with a Batman title (unless you also count DC Villains) but from the unveiling of this title earlier this week, this one has been very exciting to see and it looks like they really cooked with this title and I am all for an all new LEGO open World Batman game that is essentially a LEGO version of the Arkham games (including probably the stress inducing case of the Riddler trophies reportedly being confirmed) but either way I am excited and while no proper release date has been given yet, we will be seeing the title released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC sometime next year.
Kirby Airriders
Now in this case of the next trailer was one that was shown off before the event of Gamescom and was a focus of another company that seems to be at this case will give everything its own direct, expect for their currently unknown 1st Party titles as we got another direct for this week and in the focus it was for a small pink and cuddly like creature that will bringing a new meaning to speed as we have recieved what is essentially a trailer or direct for the upcoming new Nintendo 1st Party title of Kirby Air riders. Now this will be essentially a long awaited sequel to the original entry released back on the GameCube that will show it is much more bigger, faster, crazier and a possible lot more fun in terms of new modes, challenges and characters to play across this fast paced new form of racing game. Now I was not fully aware much of the original title, besides knowing that it did exist from a Gamecube era and probably seen some footage that it looked interesting and looked a little challenging as well but from the looks of this new one it has its charm and appeal still on full display and I am sure will be something that I can give a try of the original if it comes to the Switch Online system and then compare to the new and from what is shown was pretty impressive and am sure will be well worth a play and you can do so as well when it races onto Nintendo Switch 2 from November 20th.
Hollow Knight Silksong
And to round out the trailers for this week has been one that for many has been a long time coming, a game that has started it legacy from the title it came from that released almost a decade ago and one that has been quiet in footage or a response for well over 3 years now and many doubted was real, but after much aniticipation (and a brave soldier on YouTube giving any sense of updates everyday for over a 1000 days) we have finally gotten the news many were waiting for as we have recieved a trailer for the new Standalone initial DLC sequel of Hollow Knight with Silksong. In this standalone title, you will take on the role of a character known as Hornet, the former Princess of Hollow Knight's fallen kingdom of Hallownest, as she is forced to explore the new land of Pharloom after being captured and taken there and a land described as being haunted by silk and song where she will have to take on a deadly pilgrimage to ascend to the lands peak and discover the ancient secrets tied to her nature and past along the way. So it is definetly a case that the project has been highly anticipated and being in development for the near part of a decade and it seems like it will be well worth a playing of as I know a fair few people will be upmost excited for this title and after after all this time, we were finally graced with a release date too and its really close as the title will be slashing its way onto PS4/5, Xbox One / Series X/S, Switch 1 and 2 and Mac and PC from September 4th with physical editions of the title releasing sometime in early 2026.
News to provide a sense of life reasons
A selection of intricate release dates choices and announcements
So the first of the stories that we will be talking on for this week is the array of stories and announcements of some of the confirmed release dates and windows for a couple of projects from a few films and even some separate aspects in media that includes a little bit in tech announced this week as well, but lets look into what those projects are in particular.
So the first of the release windows in general is in the realm of somewhere that may not be seen as a major place for this type of genre, but it seems more in recent memory, it has really taken off in terms of bringing some well established creatives into the media zeitgeist of Film and TV and that is with the concept of Horror from YouTube. Now we have seen this be established so far with some creatives including the Rucka Rucka Brothers with their 2 horrors of Talk to Me and Bring her back, Vizziepop with her Hell based series of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, Psychicpebbles and Michael Cusack with Smiling Friends (that while not a horror, has some creepy based horror imagery and a Halloween episode) and soon will see Chris Struckmann come along with his film of Shelby Oakes, but we have another new name that is taking a swing at bringing a project to life on the big screen and its his own personal creation and a popular one at that and coming to us in the realm of the Analog Horror realm and that is the case of Kane Pixels and his series of the Backrooms. Now this really took off and I thank someone important to me for getting me into the concept from a few years ago and it was a massive success that it was announced back in 2023 that a film was being made with A24 with Kane set to direct the project himself and has seen some all star cast involved and that was where it was at for a bit of time, until just this week where we got some confirmation that not only is the film currently in production and started filming but we have a release window that this film will be releasing sometime next year which is a really interesting thing to learn about and am interested to see what approach the film will take if in the likes of the found footage approach, a 3rd person mystery film or whatever it may entail but it is exciting to learn. Now that is all we know of the project right now, but once we get a bit of a proper release date I will update in a later episode. So the next is with an update to a release of a film that we had only really had at this point been given the release window of, but not the date for and that was with the film coming from the twisted Mind Guillermo Del Toro with his own new take on Frankenstein where the only news we had was with the project coming out in November, but we got the confirmation on Tuesday of this week that the film now has the official release date of November 7th on Netflix. Now this could be where it all ends right now but it is confirmed to be not the case as it was also confirmed that similar to what is essentially the case for the new Knives Out Entry has been confirmed to be getting a bit of a theatrical release with the film confirmed for screenings starting on the 17th of October. Now at the moment it sounds like it could just be in the states but hopefully will also make a trip over here for screenings cause I know I would be all for seeing this new Del Toro release (as well as a certain fellow creator will be all for checking this out when it does release) and I am all for checking this out. Now at the moment we will see what comes of the release but if its a case it gets skipped here for cinemas, I will be all for checking out this new man made monster story coming out on the 7th of November. The last of these release date announcement is coming to us in the form of the tech side of things and this is with the elements of some tech that was announced a few weeks ago at the beginning of the summer as we have seen the companies of the gaming scene all take their approach in the handheld scene with Nintendo and Sony being real familiar with the concept with likes of the DS, GameBoy, Nintendo Switch and PSP's and PlayStation Portal and even the case of Steam with the Steam Deck too and it was well enough going to be the case of Xbox taking a leap into this with their unveiling of the ROG XBox Ally and Ally X at that initial event and this was where it came down to wonder when we can expect it and that news came this week during the Gamescom showcase where it was announced the 2 versions of the Xbox Handheld will be released on the 16th of October. Now this was all that was unveiled as currently what has been seen, the price points of the handhelds have not been provided and seems they are keeping it close to their chest until near to release, though some of the reported specs and prices have put it as the most expensive of the handhelds or consoles over the Switch 2 or Steam Deck prices but I guess we will have to see what comes from it all in due time. Now I feel I would have to try it out for myself by its release and I am sure it will work well but I guess we will see in due time and once I hear anything on a price, I will provide it in a later episode.
but what do you make of these release dates, are you excited for a Backrooms film, Will you see the new Frankenstein in cinemas or wait for Netflix, does the new release date for Cat in the Hat make sense, will you get the new cover album by NSP and will you be getting the new Xbox Handheld? Let me know what you think down below.
Now moving from something that is a bit more complicated to explain and focus on to a story that is more straight forward to explain, we have been given word that a new take on a popular series of comics will be getting a form of a Movie treatment with some names in helping making it happen as it was announced on Thursday Morning that we are getting a new Live Action film based on the popular series of Archie Comics and that the film will be written by Tom King (Batman, Supergirl, Vision and former CIA Agent too) and being produced by Spider-verse and Lego Movie creative Duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Now of course this is not the most known and first time in recent memory of a live action take on this comic line as least we forget for the better part of around 7 years, we had the long running adaptation with Riverdale that was a lot more dark and serious at first before it really went off the deep end in the later seasons where as of writing the final episode release 2 years ago today and we also had the other Archie comic character with Sabrina the Teenage Witch with her own 2 season series in between. Now I feel with anything I can see Lord and Miller working well with adapting something like this into a solid project as seen with their commitments to the likes of the Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street and of course Spider-Man so I will see how this project will come about. At the moment we have no idea of when we can expect this project, but once I hear of any update word about it I will update it in a later episode.
More additions to hero stories and a new adaptation of something from the comics
Now for the 2nd of the stories for this week is a bit more a shorter one in focus but in this case it is in relation where they may be a bit of a separate story, they relate in one form and that is the case that the characters are based from the pages of some Comic Books with each focusing on something new from their property or some casting updates on the way, but lets delve into the discussion of what we got for these.
So once again we start with some established news and this is once again coming to us in the realm of the MCU and in the discussion about the friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man as we have a bit of news to discuss about this upcoming project with a new casting, another hero appearance and a report for another casting that is unclear of who they are playing. We start with the new addition to the cast as it was announced on Wednesday that we have a new cast member joining in the form of Severance Star Tramell Tillman which I think is a solid choice performance going off his acclaimed performance from this popular tv Series. Now as for who he is playing is currently unclear if to say the likes that he will play someone that will help Peter in his time of need or could be one of the many rumoured villains in the film, but one discussion that has started to become a bit of a talking point with this casting is that some are speculating that Tillman may be possibly playing the role of Kang the conqueror, replacing the original actor of Johnathon Majors. Now you are probably wondering how or why he may play into this theory of a reported casting and this then comes into discussion with an update of another person with an unknown role in the film and that is with Sadie Sink. Now I have made the discussion on this series for a few episodes now that the role she is playing has jumped around from being a new version of Mary Jane, to Gwen Stacy to even another hero known as Firestar or something similar, but it seems to be a case it is going once again back to another character first discussed and alluded to her being cast as first and this is with being the mutant of Jean Gray and that the case the reason she may not be established as a Mutant comes to the reason of the control of Kang that in this timeline he has made those that are Mutants or X-Men be unaware that they are Mutant by altering the sacred timeline going off some reports and rumours apparently close to the production which I feel could work but it feels it may be getting a little over complicated with all of this. but speaking of the film being less over complicated and starting to sound overstuffed, this also comes in the report that another familiar face in the MCU may also be making an appearance in this movie and this is the report that Florence Pugh's Yelena may appear in this film in some capacity alongside the Punisher and the Hulk. It has becomea bit of a ting now that the film is getting a little overcrowded with familiar names that I would not be surprised that the likes of Daredevil, Kate Bishop and Khamala Khan are also announced to be appearing but it is really hard to say at this point in time and will see if the likes of all of these rumours and appearances and castings will play out, but I am sure we will get a somewhat look into it all from any more set leaks or promotion and if anything comes along that is official, I will update in a later episode.
But what your thoughts on this story, who do you see as the Tillman playing in Spider-Man as well as all that other Spider-Man rumours and discussions and are you interested in a new take on the Archie Comics? Let me know what you think down below in the comments.
A platform for video sharing wants to host and hold the rights for an award ceremony
Now for the final story for this week, we have a bit of a discussion that seems to be floating around and I have a bit of an opinion on but we are talking a little bit on the likes of one thing that will be in full swing from the end of next week or so and that is with the start of a focus on the award season. Now we see a lot of festivals and events happen over these next few months up to around the end of March and that is in the focus with the last big event known to a lot of people and that is to do with the Oscars. Now we have seen the likes of the show being owned by the rights of ABC for a fair length of time for the rights for broadcasting the event and it seems to be a case that it will soon be up for another stint of licensing rights being discussed soon and while likely the company will likely renew, there seems to be another company looking to obtain the rights to showcase the event and that is with none other then YouTube themselves as they are seemingly looking to purchase the rights when the license is up in 2028. Now my own personal opinion on this I feel can have one decent benefit and then the other being a bit of a messy and questionable approach as while I feel the choice to be able to watch the award ceremony live streamed on the platform, the real concern would be is that the event becomes tainted by the overabundance of creators or influencers with some big egos thinking that they are invited to win awards or have some creators that may have some shady stuff in their past allowed to present awards and think they are on the same level as the likes of some big name starts, actors and directors putting their craft into a film project that will be part of some vloggers 10 minute video and I hope it will not be the case of that and will just be in the case of the first thing in just allowing it to be streamed on the platform but still run and hosted by members of the academy or big name stars instead of influencers (or if it were for creatives, maybe those that just specialize in that area of discussion mainly). Now it is unclear if they will have the chance to do so or if the likes of ABC will continue to renew before the license is up but I guess we will see in due time and if there is any updates about it all, I will provide it in a later episode.
But I must ask the question in getting your opinion of wondering do you see this as a good thing for the video platform to own the license or will it be affected by some overshadowing the real reason of the awards? Let me know what you think down below.
And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 130th edition of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope you enjoyed the ramblings of a possibly depressed madman for another week. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed down in the comments below and as always I do hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take Care, Keep being you, Signing off
Sam H :)
