The Weird mind news room episode 1and 2: Feb 27th - Mar 12th 2023

*insert dramatic News room music here (just imagine there is news room music playing to intro it, will add in the future)*

Hello and welcome everyone to this new little weekly series I am planning to do specifically titled the Weird Mind news room. This is where I will give a little rundown on all things of news relating to media whether it is games, movies, shows and all other forms and give an insight on everything and placing it all here in one location to find this content. This will range from known releases, reviews, opinions, what is coming up in the particular month (usually for the first roundup of the month), as well as news of castings, trailers, announcements etc. So look forward to that over time. Now let's into the headlines:

New releases: Feb 27th-Mar 5th

Let's start with some of the new releases of the previous week (side note: this was going to start last week but time constraints and other things got in the way so there is a double piece for this week only) and will start with these:

Movie releases:
Creed III

The first big release of this month in the cinemas see's Michael B. Jordan step into the ring once again and behind the camera for the first time with his directorial debut with the 9th film in the Rocky Franchise and the finale of the Creed trilogy that sees Adonis Creed at the top of his game and having to face off against Johnathon Majors new character Damein, an old friend that has gotten out of jail and looking to get his chance in the ring as the big shot and will lead to big all out brawl. Going off of the reception it seems to be getting it is looking like a bit hit and has been doing some good numbers for the box office, I will try and check it out when I can (although I do need to watch a film about a bear that does cocaine first) and maybe do a rewatch of the first 2 Creed's again beforehand.

Show Releases
The Mandalorian Season 3 Premiere

The worlds favourite space bounty hunter and his precious cargo child Grogu are back again for a new season of Mandalorian. This season seems to pick up from the end of Book of Boba Fett (one that has caused quite a bit of confusion from those that just watched the main series only) that see's Mando and Grogu going off on a journey towards the ruined planet of Mandalore for Mando to bathe in the waters of the mines so that he may be given his title back of Mandalorian after he spoke the truth of removing his mask that went against his guild. This episode more then likely sets up the basis of establishing the plot for the season or maybe part of it, who knows and that there will be some more new worlds to explore and characters to meet (and maybe an explanation of what they will do with another character since their firing from the show affected them appearing) but I guess we will find out as.... This is the way.

The Last of Us Episode 8

We are into the Penultimate episode of the first season of the show and going off of the emotional recreation of the DLC part of the game with last weeks "left behind" episode, knowing my knowledge of the game we are heading into the winter section of the game and will be introduced to the character of David, probably the most unsettling character in the original game and with his gang of 'Questionable' survival methods may bring one of the most tension filled episodes of the show, but I guess we will see how things play out.

Chris Rock Selective Outrage

Technically not a tv series but rather a one off live special on Netflix where Chris Rock will be doing an hour of live standup and talk about all the things going on in the world lately from elements of politics, trends and also on The slap heard round the world given to him by Will Smith. Going off some of his other stand up shows and specials, I am sure that hilarity and great jokes will occour that will have you laughing hard.

Video Game Releases

Destiny 2: Lightfall

A long running service game has now released a new expansion in the form of Lightfall that sees new raids, characters and a story coming together and with the collective efforts will help to defeat the new enemy of the Witness and his new disciple. While I have not played too much of Destiny in the past (I may get around to it I don't know yet) but it seems to be still very popular and should bring back a major player group again.

Mario and Rabbids Sparks of Hope: Tower of Doooom DLC

In the first of the 3 planned pieces of DLC will see a new challenging tower levels of difficult fights and where strategy will be put to the test and you must fight your way and stop the merciful plans of Madame Bwahstrella. Loving the first one and getting into the sequel I will for sure get into playing that piece when my new intergalactic adventure has reached the conclusion.

New Trailer releases

Below will find some of the newest trailer releases from this week and you can watch them all here:

Citadel
A new series based on a concept of spys that has been worked on and produced by the Russo Brothers that will be making its way to Prime video very soon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Expansion pass
Some of the announcements from Pokemon day were revealed which included a whole new wxpansion pack for the recently released Scarlet and Violet that will bring trainer to the new lands and find some new Pokemon.

Pokemon Sleep
Finally a game that encourages me to sleep and benefits me in the process, now that is a game I can get behind

Peter Pan and Wendy
1 of the 2 live action remakes from the Disney era sees this whole new retelling of the Peter Pan story with some hopefully fixes and less... Offensive stereotypes from the original version

Haunted Mansion
A new adaptation of a attraction that is found at Disney World has gotten itself a trailer and sees a bit of a strong cast that includes Danny Devito, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Jared Leto and the Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis

Related piece of news and announcements

In other news, we will discuss more of the random announcements, castings or other things you may expect coming from me soon:

Man without fear spotted in New York
The first bit of news comes from New York city where people have spotted that Daredevil star Charlie Cox has been seen in the city as he is there to start the production on the newest series of Marvel's Daredevil Born Again. Not much is known on the full aspects of the story but I am sure more set photos and information about the series (as well as some other scenes will appear online)

(not the most exciting of photos, Just Charlie enjoying his coffee)

Mario Movie gets slightly earlier release date

Early in the week, Universal, Illumination and Nintendo announced that the upcoming and highly anticipated Super Mario Bros movie will be releasing in many countries 2 days earlier on the 5th of April. This film was initially releasing on the 31st of March here at one point but they must've pushed to release it the same day as the rest of the world, but that is fine as long as it is closer to the release as I am super excited for this movie. There is a release of a new trailer next week and we will talk about that when it comes out.

Are You Ready for Freddy?

What you may or may not know but for nearly a decade now they have been trying to make a film adaptation of the Five Nights at Freddys series and now they are currently in the process of working on the film with it just being a month into production and there are a few new snippets that have been seen leaked online with a look at the entrance of one of the Pizzeria's, a clip of a guy getting assaulted in a shopping centre's fountain and then a very grainy but first distant shot look at one of the Animatronic for the film made by the Jim Henson Creature shop. It seems that production is going well and whether we will see this movie this year could be a possibility, more then likely it will be next year for the game series 10th anniversary (don't that make you feel old)

A Spider-man has gotten a voice reveal

With the upcoming release of the sequel to 2018s Into the Spider-verse just about 3 months away, the advertising and promotions are about to start making waves onto the web itself and we now have another new cast member for one of the variants of Spider-people we will meet in this movie and that is with the announcement of Karan Soni as the voice of Spider-man India. Soni you may not known the name of but you may be familiar of him already lending an appearance to another red suit Marvel character as he previously played (and may still play) Dopinder in the first 2 Deadpool movies and now will be playing the Spider-man that protects the city of Mumbatten. I am sure we will get a list of all the other great names and which Spider-person they will be playing in due time before it swings into theatres in early June (and I do hope it is on par with the original).

A New Poke mystery is a brewing

Back in 2019, a live action film adaptation was released on the worldwide popular video game series of Pokemon with the release of the spin off title Detective Pikachu (a film that was a lot better then expected and started the trend of better received video game adaptations, which I will discuss in a separate blog soon). After the strong opening weekend and good reception from critics, a sequel was greenlit to be in development. But overtime the film was seen as possibly dead... until just this week where it was confirmed that this film is still coming out but that they may have a director for the film in the form of Johnathon Krisel and a writer with Chris Galletta taking over duties for this sequel. This is all we know right now and it is unsure if some of the cast from the original film is returning or when this film will be releasing but all I know is that I am excited for it.

New Releases of week of March 6th-12th

Movie releases

Scream VI
Do you like Scary Movies? Well are you in for a treat as the 6th mainline entry into this over 25 year old franchise is heading your way this week that sees the remaining survivors of last years sequel leaving Woodsboro and heading to the Big Apple to start a new life, but thing don't always end that simply as a new Ghostface is ready to take a stab at the big apple and set to create more of a kill count in a whole new setting. With a series that seems to get very well received reception with each installment from the very first with its tropes and forms of commentary, this will sure have some horror and slasher fans excited.

65
If you want something a little more prehistoric and a lot more of Adam Driver then you are in luck with this new released film from a script by the people that brought you A Quiet Place and produced by Sam Raimi which sees Driver crash landing on a planet with another survivor on the ship on a strange planet, which turns out to be earth but 65 million years ago in the past and they must try and survive against the prehistoric titans of the past and get back to their time. While getting a more of a mixed response from what I have seen online, I am sure that it could be a bit of a fun time at the movies for 2 hours of Adam Driver fighting Dinos (I know I would be interested with it)

Luther the fallen sun

For fans of the Ildris Elba starring Luther, he is back again with this time a new feature length story that sees the detective after the events of the series trying to hunt down a new terrorist, this time played by Andy Serkis. While I have not watched this series in the past I do know it does have its fans and I know this was a bit of an anticipated release that seems to be getting some ok decent reviews and worth a check now on Netflix for all those that have been waiting to watch it.

TV Show releases

Last of Us season 1 finale
Yes it is a sad time now as we have no reached the season finale of one of the most acclaimed shows on television and the soon long wait for the second season to release and how much of the 2nd game that season will cover. But as of now it seems that we will be getting a follow on to the end of the story of the first game of trying to reach the fireflies at their new base and hopefully see what will happen to humanity, and also judging by the promo material that is showing the actress that originally played Ellie in the games, it seems she is taking on the role of someone else entirely and could have connections to a certain character but I guess we will find out come Sunday night.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2
We will continue on the journey of Din Jarin and Grogu's journey to help Mando reclaim his title as a Mandalorian and wipe away his apostate status by trying to find his way to the mines of Mandalore with the help of some assistance from a helpful droid and some companions along the way to help with that as well too. I guess we will see what happens when it arrives this week.

The Oscars
Yes the end of all the big well known awards shows is this week with the 95th annual Academy Awards taking place on Late Sunday Night and into Monday. With a tough competition this year in all the categories it is anyone's guess of who will win the golden statuettes this year (and if you want to read my predictions on  who will win on my own opinion you can check out my Oscar blog Right here). I will do a follow up in my new weird mind news room of the winners and look and see how many I was accurate with.

Game Releases
Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

If you are looking for something spooky to play then why not check out the new port of the Fatal Frame (or project Zero in Europe) Mask of the Lunar eclipse, that sees you return to an island of horrors and fears with your trusty camera and wits and avoid the spooky specters and learn the truth about the horrors of these lands either on the next gen consoles or on the go with the Nintendo Switch.

Trailers
In other news, we got a lot of new trailer and releases for this week so let us check them out down below:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem
This one I did not expect to go so hard on the animation and have a mix of spiderverse and the vibes of an oil painting and I am all for it

The Super Mario Bros Movie
Every trailer and piece of tv spot or footage I see for this movie I get more hyped for and I cannot wait for this in a months time. Tickets are also now available for this movie and I will be going to buy one for me and my GF and are very excited for it

Paint
Somewhat of a possible mocumentary style on the life of Bob Ross, Owen Wilson will put on his best soft spoken voice and bring a tale of an artist in a form of a mad spiral

Ghosted
A new form of love story tale with 2 star leads of 2022 Worlds sexiest Man Chris Evans and Oscar Nominee Ana De Armas

The Little Mermaid
Releasing during the Oscars, we have gotten the first official look at the new Live action iteration of Disney's Little Mermaid adaptation that give the first look at Prince Eric, King Trident, Ursula and Sebastian the crab and some very appealing visuals and some great singing from Halle Bailey

Other News and updates

A mercenary is back:
Another bit of news for the upcoming Daredevil series being worked on has got some big announcements with it. First the big one is that John Bernthal is coming back in the denim coat and skull symbol shirt and playing the Punisher once again after his last appearance nearly 5 years ago on the Netflix series by the same name. How big a role he will have in this series and where it is set during or after the original series on Netflix we will find out closer to the time. Other casting concerns or new is uncertain if the actors for both Karen and Foggy (Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson) will be making a return again in this new series or if they will be getting a new recasting which is what the character of Vanessa has already been confirmed to be recasted with Sandrine Holt replacing Ayelet Zurer. We will learn overtime of who else will soon be returning or getting a new performance for their character overtime when the series continues into production.

Movies lost to the legends of the galaxy:
We now head to a galaxy far, far away to the world of Star Wars. Now while the side of television series and animated shows have been seen more prominent on Disney+, the movie side of things has not seen a new release since 2019s The Rise of Skywalker. While there was talks of a fair few different movies it seems some are not going to be seen and have become one with the Force. The Patty Jenkins directed Rogue Squadron and the planned Kevin Feige film seemed to have both been shelved by Disney due to lack of production (the Feige one made sense due to him overseeing the MCU and that is in a bit of a confusing place right now, will elaborate further in a later post). However it is not all gloom as Taika Waititi's own Star Wars film is still moving ahead but when we will see this release is anyones guess right now, as well as it is uncertain if Last Jedi director Rian Johnson's Trilogy of films in this franchise is still going ahead as well but that could be a little while longer due to his working on the 3rd movie in the acclaimed Knives Out series. This decision has been due to Disney's more careful strategy of what will be released and what films and concepts get to move forward to be released in the future after the last few years of films being a bit hit or miss to a lot of people in terms of Animation, Live action and Marvel and Star Wars and will be seen if this strategy will work out in the process.

The MCU question:
Speaking of Disney and Marvel they have also had a bit of a discussion point from the higher ups with the company head Bob Iger being more Judicious when it comes to some of the films and shows releasing from their company and the studios they own and that comes with the MCU. This will come on the form of the sequels for some of the films and shows in this long running franchise where they do see them doing well with sequels but will be the question if it needs a 3rd or 4th film in that franchise or for that character. This could be an interesting approach that could help bring the MCU back to the forefront and major popularity the last saga had reached over its 11 year timeframe of movie releases (I myself have some ideas that could help to improve the stories and movies and shows of this franchise and get it on the right track (and not the only one I have seen) and will discuss it in my own separate blog piece on the most recent MCU phase (as well as some individual reviews on the recent films and shows).

Into the Rocky/creed - verse:
With the recent release and strong box office opening for the 3rd film in the Creed trilogy, Director and star Michael B. Jordan has been in discussion and talks with Amazon to help in spearheading some film tv and anime project that at set in the universe and franchise set up by the Rocky and Creed movies and will be the question of where this will go and in what direction they will take. The big question that remains now is if Sylvester Stallone will return for any of these projects or a 4th Creed film in the near future, but I guess only time will tell.

The Caped Crusader has a new home
In the last piece of media news this week, the originally planned HBO Max animated series of Batman Caped Crusader has now gotten itself a new home release on Amazon Prime with a confirmed 2 seasons ordered after it was worked on and cancelled at HBO Max because HBO Max does not seem to care about anything animated unless it is unfunny and pain inducing like Velma (this will also be discussed in a future released blog post and soon to be video (as will a few of these blogs in the future) to delve deep into why this show is one of those shows that I really don't like (and I tend to like nearly everything). The real question now is who will voice the Batman in this series as I feel this was going be originally voiced by the late Kevin Conroy before his passing but we will get to that in due time.

What to expect this month (hopefully)
Just to wrap it up with some final bit of news of what you may expect to see this month. Besides doing a few more of these every week, I hope to do a short follow up on the oscar results (or add to next weeks one), hopefully get a review out or 2 this month (some I do have from a while ago to finish and some for the last month or this month include ones on The Last Of Us tv series, Shazam, Puss in Boots, Cocaine Bear, Ant-man etc.). I may hopefully start on a little blog of the mentioned ones above like the problems of Velma or the ways that the MCU could fix itself for a much stronger Multiverse saga and beyond. I also plan to do a little video of discussing some plans for the beginnings of the Youtube channel with some ideas I have in mind for it and may even get some ideas from you the audience that is reading this (which may include if this series should have a better name for this weekly roundup of media news) but we will get to those after these messages.

And that is all the news that we have for you today, I thank you for taking a bit of time to read it and check it out and I hope you have a wonderful day being wonderful people and until the next episode, goodnight and good news, signing off

Sam H
