Weird Mind news Room: Episode 4 20th-26 march 2023

*Insert the dramatic newscaster music here*

Hello again one and all and you are very welcome to the newest weekly iteration of the Weird Mind News Room. Here we will discuss the newest releases that have released in Cinemas, TV, Consoles or other forms of entertainment and media, show the new released trailers of the week and some other news form discussions of announcements, castings and all other things. So let us get into the news:

New Release bulletin

Movies
John Wick Chapter 4

The Baba Yaga is back once again for more high octane action, many simple items becoming weapons and a lot of fancy suit wearing for shooting guns with the 4th chapter in this popular action series of films. Following on from Parabellum, the price on Wick's head has begun to increase more and more. To get himself out, he takes the fight to the global aspect of the High Table to seek out the most powerful players in the underworld to take them down. If there is one thing that will always be great about this series, it would be the action and all the ways someone can be killed with anything that can become a weapon is always so cool and if going off the reviews and reception this film has been receiving then it will be one not to miss

TV
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4

We continue on the galactic adventures of the Mandalorian and Grogu and will be following on from the end of the last episode where Mando and Bo have escaped from those Tie Fighters (while also wondering if the tale set on Corusant will have any connection later on) and have returned to the guild where they have both been welcomed back into the guild after bathing in the waters of Mandalore. While it was a story I expected to last a full season, I am unsure of what this will lead to but I will watch with keen interest of what it will all lead too.

Games
Resident Evil 4 Remake

After originally releasing on the Gamecube in 2005, PS2 later that year, PC and Wii 2 years after that, IOS mobile 2 years later, HD ports 2 years after on PS3 and 360, Ports onto PS4 and XBone and PC and then a switch port and a VR port, we now have the 10th port remaster remake of one of the most popular horror games as well as one of the most popular Resident Evil games. For those of you that may know the basis of this games plot, set in the year of 2004, you play as Leon S. Kennedy, one of the main playable characters from Resident Evil 2, who has joined a task force for the US government and has been assigned to travel to a small countryside village in Spain to help find and rescue the presidents daughter Ashley from possessed villagers, strange creatures and a secret Cult hidden amongst the village. If going off reviews being near universal praise then this will be quite the big action adventure that everyone fell in love with back for the first time in 2005.

Trailer time talk
Now for the part of the news discussion where we will talk on some of the big trailers that had come out in the last week of some of the big releases in all the areas of media:

Renfield
The newest film that sees Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), an assistant that has been serving the same master for nearly a century and has had enough and with the help of his new love interest Rebecca (Awkwafina) as well as some of his own supernatural powers to get out of this relationship. I mean all I need to say is that he is the assistant of Dracula and Dracula is played by none other then Nic Cage... need I say more.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor

After being delayed by a month until late April to polish and make everything perfect, we received a new story trailer for the follow up to Jedi Fallen Order that sees it set 5 years after that game and the continuing journey for Cal Kestis as they try to reach some form of safe haven from the ever-growing power and danger of the empire after the execution of Order 66 and their mission to get rid of the Jedi. I am sure it will be something to try out when the game releases in April.

Crash Team Rumble

For something a bit more light and energetic, we have a new trailer to showcase the new 4v4 Crash bandicoot multiplayer game in the form of the preorder game for a release this summer with a alpha or beta test in Mid April to try out.

Big Shark

Have you heard of the cult classic movie the Room? No not the one starring Oscar Winner Brie Larson, but more the 2003 independent film by Tommy Wiseau, well he is back with his buddy Greg Sestero to bring a new movie about three firefighters who must save New Orleans from a giant Killer shark. It sound dumb, but its a Wiseau film so there will be a cult following not too long after release probably.

Sweet Tooth season 2

Heading to the world of streaming, we have the official trailer for the 2nd season of Sweet tooth, based on a comic book of the same name and executive produced by Robert Downey Jr, which sees the titular sweet tooth, a boy who is half human, half deer, go on a journey across a post apocalyptic world with a gruff protector on a journey to find his mom in Colorado and from being hunted for sport. It has a sense of adventure and whimsy and I am sure will be worth a watch when it releases in April.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
spinning off of the very popular series of Bridgerton, this series will follow the tale of Queen Charlotte and her rise to power and prominence, and her marriage to King George becoming a timeless love story. While I have not seen much of the original show, this will surely see a major amount of interest when it releases in early May.

In Other News
Now for the last section of the week, lets look into some of the more not as known articles and story of media from this week:

The Castings of Middle Earth
We have received some word of some new cast members joining for the 2nd season of Amazon's Lord of the Rings series: The Rings of Power. This has seen the casting of Ciaran Hinds, who you may know as portraying Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones or as the main Antagonist of Steppenwolf in Zack Snyder's Justice League. He is also joining alongside Rory Kinnear (Men) and Tanya Moodie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) amongst the large ensemble cast of this new tale set centuries before the tale of the original book stories. Not much is known of who they will be playing but we will get some info closer to the release of the next season sometime soon.

The Mysterious exit of a Marvel Exec

Back on Monday news broke of the sudden exit of the Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso who was the head of the Physical and Post production, Visual effects and Animation since 2021 who had been with the company for 17 year and an executive producer on every MCU film and TV production. Some info seems murky but one of the reason may have had to do with a breach of contract as she was not allowed to make other films for other companies after an agreement in 2019, but she was confirmed as a producer of the Oscar nominated documentary film Argentina 1985. It is unclear of the full picture but we may get clearer answers soon.

From Superheroes to super horrors
After the release of the recent Shazam movie, the director of the 2 films, David F. Sandberg, has stated that he is planning to take a little break from making movies about Superheroes and go back to making some more horror movies. Not much is known exactly of what his next horror movie may be, but we could see something as scary as his 2 previous Horrors of Lights out and Annabelle Creation and as well as his many form of no budget horror short films but we will keep it updated when any announcement is made

A bit of a rumbling
Speaking of the DCEU, there has been quite the rumour mill going around about 2 characters in particular: Shazam and Black Adam. You see initially, Shazam was supposed to appear in a cameo role or post credits scene of the Black Adam movie and then characters of Hawkman or other Members of the JSA would appear in Fury of the Gods (not sure where as I have yet to see it but I plan to sometime in the next week) but this was all apparently stopped by The Rock himself, who would be much preferring a big plan of building up to a confrontation fight between Black Adam and Superman and the likes of a crossover with Shazam was never considered. Now this so far seems to be rumoured info but a lot of sources are starting to pick up this story and look further into it and if anything else comes up this will be updated later or in a follow up episode of WMNR.

The Precious has a release date

After being announced back in 2019 for a 2021 release and a few delays for polishing, feedback on mixed first previews and everything else, we now have a new official release for the new Lord of the Rings: Gollum game. The game is set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox and Pc on May 25th (and assuming neither gets delayed, will be releasing against the new Suicide Squad game from Rocksteady). As for the confirmed Switch release, this game is still releasing for the console but at a later date but will arrive by the end of this year. It will beg the question of how well and enjoyable the game will turn out but I guess we will find out in April.

The Batman becomes a killer

No not the character, but the actor Robert Pattinson who played the worlds greatest detective in last Years The Batman has been case as the lead role in Adam McKay's new film 'Average Height, Average Build' where he will play a serial killer who gets into politics so that he can change the law for it to be more murder-friendly. This will also see Robert Downey Jr starring in the film as well as an unknown role at the moment but I am sure we will hear more about it when the movie heads into development.

YOU will be gone by next season
For fans of the Netflix series of YOU have just been given the 2nd half of season 4 about 2 weeks ago and it has been a big success, but now word has come in that with the release of the most recent season that it has been renewed for a 5th and final season that is set to premiere sometime in 2024 (making it the 2nd show to end with a 5th season from Netflix with Stranger Things ending next year too).

Possible release plan
Going back to Marvel once more, as if you have been hearing the rumblings going on with Disney CEO Bob Iger trying to fix things with all divisions, which includes Marvel. This seems to be stemming from the plan to reduce the amount of Marvel content released each year and possibly spacing out the releases of Phase 5 and 6 so that it can release more and more Quality titles instead of a quantity of them at one time. Now the films that were planned to release this year are still coming out this year with the only delay being the Marvels from a late July to an early November release. As for the shows they seems to be given a possible release window and which ones may be coming out this year and how many. The rumoured listing is as Follows:

Films:
Ant-Man and the Wasp :Quantumania (Feb 17th)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (May 5th)
The Marvels (Nov 10th)

Shows:
Secret Invasion (rumoured June release)
LOKI Season 2 (Rumoured late summer or september release (This is also backed up by star Owen Wilson)
ECHO (Possibly rumoured for this year in December)

There is also talks of a Marvel special presentation similar to Werewolf by Night and the Guardians Holiday special but it is unknown at the moment. This seems like a good enough ideal of where some of these are releasing and the first 2 shows make most sense especially if secret invasion may tie into The Marvels and LOKI was teased at the end of Quantumania, but hopefully we will get confirmation on all of it as well as a good structured plan of films and shows over the year like 2 movies and 2 shows or 3 films and 1 show or special a year (but I will get to that in a separate article or video soon) in order to get a proper plan out and make quality films and shows (which I have heard rumours of the 2 Avengers films being pushed back to better build it up more) to get people invested into the MCU much more again. This may however come with a concern though with any studio if the last story may cause

The arrest of Majors

For the last story we are discussing about an incident that happened on Saturday or Sunday that saw news break about Kang actor Johnathon Majors being arrested for possible assault charges in New York. Not much is known on what fully happened but it was reported he may have assaulted a 30-year-old woman and she has possibly sustained head and neck injuries from it and he was taken into custody but was released by that evening. Right now, we are unsure of the full story and has been rumblings that the accusers story has been recanted since the arrest, but if more comes out about the whole situation, we will update on the story.

And that is all we have for this weeks episode of the Weird Mind News Room, do join us again for more releases, trailers and news next week. Thank you, goodnight and good news.

Signing off
Sam H
