Weird Mind News Room Week 15: June 5th-11th 2023
*Hold me closer, theme song player*
Hello again you wonderful people to the 15 episode of Weird Mind News Room. This week we have some more new releases and news and a lot of trailers, so lets not waste time and lets get right into it
New Releases, Let them come
Movies
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Starting off with the biggest release of this week we have a return to the age old battle between good and evil with the Autobots and the Deceptacon's with the newest film in the live action Transformers films with Rise of the Beasts. This is a follow up to 2018s Bumblebee and sees the film set in 1994 and sees Optimus, Bumblebee and the Autobots taking on their biggest challenge yet as a new threat emerges that is capable of destroying the world they must team with another powerful faction of Transformers, The Maximals, to help save the earth. Now this one seems to be getting a lot more of a mixed reception compared to the likes of the high praise of Bumblebee and the abysmal scores of the Bay films, but it does look great visually and story wise and I will be checking this out when I get the chance.TV Shows
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 16
The gang of lovable a****les are back again for another collection of misadventures in the 16th season of It's always sunny in Philadelphia, with them back from Ireland at the end of the last season to talk on current topics like Inflation, Curses, Russia relations and much more and done and focused in only the way that the gang of Paddy's Pub can mess it up. The first 2 episodes are available right now to watch online and the rest will release up to the end of July so look forward to that.Human Resources season 2
Now at first when the original came out, it had a unique idea (even if a bit mixed from go) and tone to it all but as the series kept going on and on, it got tedious, way too overly uncomfortable and annoying (yet surprisingly Netflix will get rid of good stuff like Inside Job and make another 2 seasons of these shows), but also releasing this week is Human resources season 2, the confirmed final season of the spin-off to Big Mouth focus on the different creatures that make up a person. While it can be seen as give or take with the series, some of the big names for this season to go out with a bang include Miley Cyrus, Florence Pugh, Eugene Levy, Nicee Nash-betts and many more. So if you liked the show or want to see how the series ends then you can check it out now on Netflix.Video Games
Amnesia: The Bunker
Now our first game of this week comes to us for the popular horror series of Amnesia, a game series that helped to revive the dying genre of Horror games that would spawn other scary titles like Outlast, Alien Isolation, Layers of Fear and to some degree Five Nights at Freddy's, with the 5th entry of the series: The Bunker. This new one takes us back to WW1 in 1916 France and you play as a soldier who has found himself trapped down in a barracks with no sign of getting out of there easily and a bit of amnesia as to who he is and how he ended up there. You must work your way to find a soloution to escape this large coffin and escape the war, but it is not just you alone down there as something is lurking in the walls and the darkness and has you in mind as its next target. Now this game has gotten itself some great reception and a lot more people seem to like it more from the previous title of Rebirth and if you want to try it out for yourself then you can get it now on PC, PS4 and Xbox series X/S (Surprisingly no PS5 release).
Diablo 4
The final new release of this week is another form of a horror themed game from a series that has had its share of hits and misses (don't get me started on the mess that was Diablo Immortal) and that is with with the 4th entry in the series. This new one will see you create your own character from a selection of 5 classes (Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue and Sorcerer) and go on quests and do battle on a journey to save the world of sanctuary after the sudden resurrection of the Demon Lilith. Now this one has been getting some really strong positive reviews and myself I haven't played a Diablo game but I may at some point give it a try when I get the chance to do so as well.
Also want to talk of just coincidence of a photo relating to coincidental promotion but there is currently wildfires going on in Canada and has caused the air to become thick and the sky to turn an orangy colour in New York and the placement of this ad and photo felt like a coincidence.
Roll out the trailers
Bird Box Barcelona
First trailer of this week gives us a solo sequel to a Netflix original Horror thriller. Back in 2018, Netflix gave us the original movie Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock as a pregnant woman who must survive in a post apocalyptic world where creatures of unknown source or power who causes the person that looks at them to end their own lives. It was popular, got some decent reception and spawned a dumb trend for about a month and a half. 5 years later and we are now getting a sequel film that is it's own standalone with this set in Barcelona and following a father and his daughter as they try to survive in a much larger city when these creatures come along and cause a dangerous threat to humanity. Now it doesn't look too bad but it may be better then it is. It comes out next month so not too long away
The Witcher Season 3 part 1
Another one from Netflix take us to the world of the Witcher series with the newest trailer for the 3rd season of the series. Now this one is the last season that will have the man himself Henry Cavill taking on the role of Geralt of Riveria before he is replaced with Liam Hemsworth. Now I think that Cavill has been an excellent fit as Geralt and this new season does not look bad, looks exciting to me. I will be doing a rewatch catch up before the first part of this season drops on June 29th and the 2nd part a month later on July 27th.
Insidious the red door
Now we have some new horror movie news with the final entry in the long running series of Insidious with the Red door. Now this connects back to the original with the son of the family who starts to experience these curses and horrors that scarred him as a child a decade ago as he tries to move on and head to college to escape it all but it seems no matter where you are, evil is always around. Now personally to me this doesn't really look good and the series has not been great overtime, the original was seen as the best, the 2 followups I heard were ok but the last one I heard was bad, so unless the trailers are not showing the best stuff, it is a bit of a concern right now but it could be good who knows
Expendables 4 or Expend4bles
The next trailer on the list brings us to the next entry in an action movie series that boasts more big named action stars then a superhero movie and a film that initially was never planned to be made due to the amount of pirating of the previous entry in the series with Expendables 4 (or Expend4bles for how its presented). This new one will have some familiar faces return like Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham with new faces of 50 Cent and Megan Fox as they team up to stop the terrorist of Suarto, who runs a terrorist organization that smuggle warheads that will cause a tension to rise between the US and Russia in an all out war and this team is called in to sort it out. Now it doesn't too bad but I am sure we will see how it turns out when it shows more promotion before the release in late September.
Good Omens Season 2
Everyone's favourite angel and demon odd couple are back again for the long awaited 2nd season to Good Omens as Aziraphale and Crowley are back once again to help with the mystery of stopping Armageddon when the archangel Gabriel appears at Aziraphale and the forces of Heaven and hell are trying to use Gabriel to their own advantage. Now this is all based on loose ideas from the authors of the original good omens that were never used and it does sound and look exciting and engaging and I will be checking this out when the series drops at the end of July.
My Adventures with Superman
For the only animated trailer this week, we are jumping into the pages of DC comics and focusing on the Man of Steel. In this new series, it is in the form of a coming of age comedy that focused on a 20 something Clark Kent, the bright and driven Lois Lane and their reporter friend Jimmy Olsen as they learn to discover who they are while cracking the conspiracies and the stories while working for the Daily Planet. Now over the last decade, the likes of Superman films and shows have been a lot more darker and moody and grey and seeing a more comedic and upbeat form of Superman adventure, which has been present in a lot of superman comics and seeing this feels like a bit of fresh air before the new Superman film from James Gunn coming out in 2 years time (hopefully). But if you want to check it out it comes out in Mid July.
Mortal Kombat 1
Coming from the currently ongoing Summer of Gaming, we have finally gotten ourselves some gameplays footage for the newest entry in the Mortal Kombat series with Mortal Kombat 1. This new one seems to be giving the original game that started a discussion in violent video games and give it a 4k upgrade with an all new design and substance. The gameplay looks great and the attack are more bloodier then they have every been and the fatalities shown off so far are just as graphic and gory as they ever are. If you are looking for a fight, then you can get your hands on this game when it releases in Mid-September this year.
Star Wars: Outlaws
in a surprise end of the week release at the xbox showcase, we got the reveal of another brand new game set in the Star Wars universe with Outlaws. This new game is set between the event of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi where you will play as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel who is trying to find a way to freedom and a means to start a new life with her companion Nix where you will explore the first open world Star Wars game where you will fight, steal and outwit your way through the galaxys crime syndicate. I know that this is simply a cinematic reveal trailer but it looks cool and I will talk more on it next week when they unveil the gameplay footage at the Ubisoft event on Monday but now I look forward to trying it out next year.
Fable
Another big name that appeared at the Xbox game show was an all new look at the next game in the Fable series with the announcement of a new famous face appearing in the game in the form of Richard Ayoade, known for playing Moss in the popular series of I.T Crowd who in this is a vegetable enthusiast, who may or may not also be a giant. We also see some form of gameplay for the series of trying to battle our way through the giants house and all that good stuff. Now the game looks visually appealing and I may give it a try whenever this game releases sometime soon.
StarField
One last Xbox showcase trailer that was unveiled is a new look at the upcoming Bethesda game of Starfield which will see you taking off into the far galaxies and explore strange new worlds, meet new inhabitants and delve into a major big story. Now it does look good and I hope it will be a better turnout by Bethesda compared to Redfall when it comes out in Early September
Sonic Superstars
Our final trailer for this week has us rolling around at the speed of sound as Sega has just announced an all new 2d Sonic game with a bit of a twist to it as instead of the simple pixel art, it is taking an all new 2.5D style approach with Sonic Superstars. You and up to 4 friends can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy, gain new powers and the Northstar islands and stop Eggman and an old adversary, Fang, from turning all of those innocent creature into Badniks. I was surprised to see a new sonic game and releasing very soon after the last big release in Frontiers and it looks super fun and very visually appealing and I will be checking this out when it releases sometime in the Fall.
Rise of the news
The Future of Apple is way too overprices and a little uncanny
So starting with a bit of tech news, I wanna say something a little controversial but I don't really like Apple products. Don't get me wrong some stuff is designed nicely and works well but I prefer if I was using a computer I would go for a normal designed PC or for phone I go with Android due to their more inventive designs of phones and improving with new feature, ones that apple take from their design years later after being implemented in Android and make it like it's a new thing. Anyway I am gone off point, so earlier this week, Apple unveiled their new version of their own form of virtual reality tech in the form of the Vision Pro, which would be a giant Mac computer, Ipad or any apple device that you would move and control with your eyes. Now it did look cool and great and seems to work from sources that have tried it out, however, the major complaint I have seen is the price. You'd think with something like this, lowest would be about 600-900 to the highest price being around the price of an Iphone pro, but no, the starting price is at $3500 which is way too expensive and if Apple want it to be a success, I feel it needs to be much more affordable, when you can get a New Meta Quest 2 for around 300 or the new 3rd gen Quest in the fall for 500 and works just as well.
But what do you think, are you going to buy one of these, and do you think that these are way tooo expensive for a headset that may have some restrictive features compared to other VR headsets. Let me know down below on what you think
Rebel Moon has 2 sides to it
The next story of this week comes to us from Netflix and the man that has caused a die hard army to go against anything on DC films that is not made by him and made 2 of his pieces as oscar winners in a public vote category and that is with Zack Snyder. Now since the release of his 4 hour Justice League and Army of the Dead, Snyder has been busy over at the streaming Giant working on a whole new original sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, with a planned release for this Christmas. But now we have been given word that this is not a one off film and in fact has been confirmed this week that will now be a 2 parter film. Announced alongside some new first look images, it came along that the first part to rebel Moon will release in Mid/Late December, while its sequel will release sometime next year or 2025. Now it does sound exciting, its just time now to get a full trailer and get an idea of what this is all about.
Are you excited for the newest film from Zack Snyder and how do you feel of it being a 2 parter? Let me know down below as to what you think
Captain America gets a name change
Next on the list we are taking a jump over to the newest film currently in the works with the MCU after the upcoming Marvels film with the 4th Captain America film with Anthony Mackie taking on the role of the star spangled man with a plan. At the beginning of this week, Mackie posted an image to his social media of him behind the scenes checking out some footage with Harrison Ford, who has been casted as Thunderbolt Ross after the passing of the late John Hurt last year. Now while that is some discussion in itself, it also shows that the film has gotten itself a small name change from the original title. The new film is now titled Captain America: Brave New World, a change from New World Order. The reason seems to be the change is because the subtitle for the film is the name of a conspiracy theory that has some subtle racist tones I believe and has a bit of a orwellian 1984 tone to what the conspiracy is all about. I think the title is a good change and gives it more traction and I look forward to see how this turns out with some first look footage that will most likely be shown at next Months Comic Con.
Do you think the name change is a good thing and are you excited for the sequel. Let me know down below.
The Jedi Warrior has a date
Now to a galaxy far far away with the next entry in the Star War series with the new series focused on Ahsoka Tano. Now we had gotten some footage and trailer for the series back at Star War Celebration in April with the release month confirmed for August of this year, but now we have gotten a confirmed official date for when the series will be starting. This new episodic series will be dropping from August 23rd and will be releasing weekly from there on in a 6-8 episode saga. Now it does look interesting and I am sure we will get one more piece of trailer before its release.
Are you excited for the new release of the Ashoka series? Let me know your thoughts down below
Spider-man has caught a date in its web
And our final story is with another release date and this time it is for one of the biggest games of this year with the sequel to the much beloved Spider-man games from Insomniac with Spider-man 2. 2 weeks ago we reported on some new gameplay footage for the game that released at the Playstation showcase that looked so cool and awesome, and the only date we had gotten was a Fall 2023 release. But just on Thursday, we have been finally given a proper release date and it is joining the October club as the new game will be making its release on October 20th. Alongside it they announced 3 different version of a standard edition, a digital deluxe edition and a collectors edition with a steel case (that only has a digital code in it making a steelbook case pointless) and a big statue of Peter and Miles fighting Venom. We also got the confirmed cover image above alongside it too and pre-orders begin for th game next Friday. I for one am excited to try out this game when it comes out in October (alongside all the other big October releases).
Are you's excited for Spider-Man 2 or what is your favourite Spider-Man game. Let me know down below.
A special project talk
so this is not part of the other pieces but before I sign off for another week I want to actually bring attention of something that a friend of mine has made that I would like to see get a little more publicity to it. Now I know the likes of talking about the pandemic is something we do not want to talk about anymore, but it is the case that we have all gone through the pandemic and many may have experienced the virus and had to self isolate. Now we have moved on now from masks and restrictions but to some they still deal with the symptoms that have been a part of them for a long time.
so my Friend Sunny has made this excellent piece known as Long Covid: The Hidden Pandemic, a 25 audio story of talking with those that have been dealing with the symptoms of Long Covid through discussions with family members, healthcare workers and others that have experienced the symptoms well after first becoming in contact with the virus. Now I have listened to the whole piece and it is excellently made and it is so well done and it did bring me to tear with their work that they have done with this project and I wanted to give it a bit of publicity and get more to here it. If you have around a half hour of your time, you can check out the piece Here. It is an excellent piece and want to say well done Sunny, you made an excellent project all round and deserved that Student of the year award for it.
But anyways that is all we have time to talk about for this week and I hope you have enjoyed seeing a bit more content this week with trailers and stuff. Let me know what you though of some of these topic down below and lets start a discussion. But for now until next week, stay being wonderful people, good day, good news and powering down.
Signing off
Sam H
