Weird Mind News Room Episode 27: 28th August- 3rd September
*I'll give you 9 seconds to get the music*
Hello to all of you lovely people to the 27th episode of Weird Mind News Room and you have made it just in time as we are about to set sail into the content of the high seas of New Releases (there is a lot so it will be a little bit of a lightning round to go through them all), travel the treacherous Trailers, fight the nemesis of News and hit X on the spot of some special segment of discussion this week, so lets cast off and get into adventure.
The New Release Piece..... is real!!!!!
Movies
The Equalizer 3
So lets start with the big released film of this week and that is with the 3rd entry in the Equalizer trilogy that will see the character of former Assassins of Robert McCall as he retires to a peaceful life in Southern Italy, but soon that peace is shattered when he discovers the populace is under the control of the Mafia and he will have to bring the peace and justice one last time. Now the reception initally was a little mixed and around the same percentage as the sequel but has since improved to where it is the best in the series and if you want to see the conclusion to this series of films then you can check it out now in cinemas
Cobweb
But if action is not much of your interest and want more of a spooky vibe then I would suggest the new release of Cobweb that follows a young child named Peter who is haunted by the sound of a constant tapping on his wall in the night but his somewhat neglectful parents think he is imagining things but when things become real and more terrifying he starts to believe his parents may be hiding a very dark secret. Now reception for this film has been in the mixed category but I am sure it is not too much of a harmful horror and there can be something good in these horrors so it may be worth a check out
Apocalypse Clown
Now for a film closer to home we have the release of Apocalypse Clown, a film that is set in Ireland about a sudden solar flare storm knocking out the use of technology and plunging the world into chaos and soo sees a troupe of failed clowns go on a cross country journey of self discovery and to help bring joy back to the people when everything is in chaos. Now what I have seen from the small amount of reception so far for the film is that it has been getting some very strong reception on critics, not sure on Audience side but I have heard their is a good amount of hilarious comedy in the film so it may be worth a check out in due time.
Sound Of Freedom
Now there is one other film that has been quite the talking point on the internet for the better part of a month that released this week here and that is the Sound of Freedom. Now the film tells the true story of Homeland Security agent of Jim Ballard who went on a mission beyond his career and travels across the world to save a pair of children who have been part of a trafficking ring. Now the thing with this movie is that their is a whole conspiracy to it online that Hollywood and the media is trying to hid this film as they are aware but don't want to promote and a lot of videos of people talking on this film of either they don't get it or something similar will have the notion of being bombarded with people saying if you don't like this film that it makes you part of the problem and there is all weird things to it like the main lead is some major tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist, many screen in the US apparently had screens sold out for this film but people that went into the screens found them empty and some specified they were bought by the studio that made it and made a plea at the end to buy a ticket to this for someone that otherwise may not afford to (and then one of the investors of the films apparently was arrested for attempted child trafficking). Like I think yeah the likes of this subject should be talked about as it is a very serious thing as it still occours heavily in the modern day, it just seems a case now that the film is being amplified as if it is being overlooked and if you do not watch this then apparently you are also a child groomer. Now reception for this has been more mixed and has slowly gone down in reception as it releases overseas but has been doing decent numbers but I may give it a look when I have the chance but it is one of those I considered talking on but know there will be those that will complain on it of me not understanding it.
TV Shows
One Piece (Netflix adaptation)
Now for the first of the new show releases of the week, we will head over to the streaming giant of Netflix for their next attempt of making an anime adaptation into live action and this is with the adaptation of One Piece. Now to give some clarification of what this anime is about a character Monkey D.Luffy who gathers a crew of colourful characters as they set off on the high seas of adventure in a fantastical world in search of the world's ultimate treasure in the quest t become the Pirate King. Now most adaptations of Anime from Netflix tend to be bad (see Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, fullmetal Alchemist and more) and initial rumours of this series was coming out as really bad but it has been shown to be really well recieved to the point it is the best reviewed anime adaptation right now on the streamer and you can check out the full season now on Netflix.
Disenchantment final season
But if you want to go with a more animated approach then I would suggest more on the final season of the Matt Groening show of Disenchantment with this season seeing Bean, Elfo and Luci teaming up with the creatures of Dreamland to save the kingdom and its inhabitants and world from total destruction from the hands of her evil mother Queen Dagmar. Now this series has always been more of the weakest of the three shows of Groening compared to the endless run of the Simpsons and the well loved Futurama (which also released a new episode this week) the final season has been mixed but audiences seem to be more in favour and you can find out how the series ends right now on Netflix
Wheel of time season 2
And to conclude the newly released seasons of the week, we are heading over to Amazon Prime for the release of the 2nd season of Wheel of Time that sees the member of a magical organization known as Moiraine, take 5 young people on a journey to discover if one of them is the prophesized person known as the Dragon who may save the world or destroy it with their power. Now the reception for the season has been very strong and I need to give this a look into it when I can and you can check it out with the full season now on Prime
Ashoka Episode 3
Here are some of the reminders of the other new episodes of shows that are available to check out this week. First off we have the next episode of the newest Star Wars series of Ashoka and it seems reception has been improving with this new episode and will have to be seen how well it does overtime in terms of reception and I need to check it out myself in the next little while as well.
Only Murders in the Building S3 Episode 5
The 2nd show with a new episode out is also with the midway mark of the 3rd season of Only Murders in the building and this episode is focusing more on a date night for the trio in different ways for Charles, Oliver and Mabel and some parts of the mystery will show its face in the mix of all of it and I have enjoyed it, sure the mystery is kind of taking a back seat for a good part of the season but I have enjoyed it none the less
Futurama Reboot Episode 6
The last show releasing this week with a new episode of the Futurama reboot and this week will focus on it being set around the holidays and on the origins of evil Robot Santa from Neptune when Bender and Zoidberg will travel through time to stop him. Now like all forms of Futurama quirkiness the series has been doing well so far and if you want to check it out then it is available on Disney+.
Video Games
Samba De Amigo: Party Central
It's Party time as everyone's favourite party animal Amigo is back again with an all new return to Samba De Amigo with Party Central as you play to the music of the maracas to some Latin America music and some modern day genres of music too that will have moving to the groove. Now the reception has been decently recieved and most case there will be more games released for the game overtime most likely but you play the game now on the Go with Nintendo Switch and Apple Arcade and soon in VR
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC: Rayman in the Phantom Show
And the final release of this week is with some DLC content as we have gotten the 3rd part to the season pass of the Mario and Rabbids Sparks of Hope game that will see Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario be invited to take part and also soon stop the maestro rabbid ghost and his phantom show and with the assistance of the main focus to this DLC with the return of the character that brought these characters to success: Rayman. Now reception has been decently recieved and hopefully this will see Rayman make a return in his own game or a new Rabbids game (I just want a sequel to Rayman Legends, is that too much to ask) and I will be playing this a chance and hopefully more will as well as this DLC is available now on Switch.
Trailers of Treachery
Ferrari
So the first of the trailers of the week is coming to us with director Michael Mann's newest film biopic based on Ferrari that tells the tale of mogul Enzo Ferrari and how he created the age of the Italian sport car and the formation of the Formula one. Now this is how you do a great trailer where you show some aspects but not give the entire plot away and if you told me that this is Adam Driver in the lead role, I would not have recognized him and I have seen as well reception so far from the current film festivals have been well recieved for this but we will have to wait to see this film when it releases on Boxing Day this year.
Five Nights At Freddy's Movie
I have one question for you and that is are you ready..... for Freddy? yes out of nowhere this week we got the official final trailer for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's movie that will see the new security guard getting a job to watch over the old abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria and soon realizes that this job is not going to be easy and will have to survive for his life from this haunted animatronics. Now I like they are being very vague with all of these trailers but still looks great and I have to give props to the Jim Henson Studio for the designs of the main 4 characters as they are really well done and made excellently (even if a little on the likes of one characters designs I am on the fence about until I see the full look at them) and we do not have long left as this film releases just in time for Halloween on October 27th.
Super Mario Bros Wonder Presentation (may delve some more in the News)
Slender the arrival Update remake
And the final trailer for this week comes to us from an indie horror making a return to the modern day with an update revival of 2013s Slender the Arrival. Now not much is show apart from someone being swarmed by an army of Slendermen (which sounds like a concerning this and some authorities should be called) but I have seen some of the new updated look to the game and it does look great and this new version will be available on October 18th
Nemesis of News
Marvel explains the timeline
So we have 2 pieces of Marvel news this week and we'll discuss the other one later in the news but we all know the MCU as a major film series of many interconnected films and shows that tell and continuous story and while they all have their forms of entertainment to them, sometimes it can become quite complicated especially when it comes to the timeline of where certain films are set and everything. Now finally it was announced just on Monday we were given the announcement of the official timeline book of the MCU that will be coming out next month that will go in depth of where it began to the present of when the book is released and most case as more of these films and shows are released there will be a vol.2 or an updated book but if you want to properly plan out the timeline of the series then you can pick up the book when it releases on October 24th
But what are your thoughts on a book of the full timeline for the MCU and do you have your own timeline like I do (cause that is what a normal person has made right?) of how it all plays out, let me know your own version in the comments below
Snow White and the 7 Days of reshoots and delays
Now from Marvel to the magical house of mouse with Disney and in particular with the side of the Live Action Adaptations. Now we know that their are many films being made into live action and as things currently stand their are 2 live action films from Disney scheduled for next year, a Lion King Prequel Sequel about a young Mufasa and Scar and the one that I am given a focus on and for the decision to make my next long form video talking about the Disney Live Action Remakes (which is coming soon and hopefully by the end of this month of middle of next) and that is with Snow White. Now this film was in development for the better part of the last few years from finding directors and a leading lady in the form of Rachel Zegler but this film has been gotten itself a little bit of controversy. First was the casting that similar to Halle Bailey in Little Mermaid was that the casting choice has been scrutinized as the character has skin as white as snow when Zegler has more of a slighty fairer skin, then the likes of the whole thing of how they will approach the 7 dwarves with only one of the cast having a form of dwarfism and then the likes of the grandson or child of the original 1937 film adaptation calling out Disney for what he is dubbing as a "woke" remake and for Zegler comments about she said the original is problematic. Now why am I talking on this now and not in the form of a trailer or the long form video? Well the reason is that their is some rumpurs floating around that with the ongoing strike and the recent changes of films being released, it may be a possibility that this film will be delayed from its initial March Release date as it may want to avoid competition with Dune Part 2, as well as the case that the film is apparently planned for some reshoots and other changes to the film after some backlash and from a leaked set photo of Snow White with the 7 magical creatures. Now this is just a rumour right now and it could be announced in a few days if other Disney films will get delayed (like another story in this episode) and if this will too so I will let yous all know if that does
But what do you think of all of this and if this gets delayed when do you think it will come out and are you excited for this reboot (or more excited for me to have to sit through all of the Live action films for a long form video for you guys?) Let me know your thought and opinions down below in the comments
Harleen Quinzel has passed on
Now this is just a little story of in memorium that is from last week but only seen after I finished making the video, but sadly we lost another iconic voice from the comic tales of the Batman Animated series and that was in the form of Arleen Sorkin. She was the one that first brought the popular Batman villain of Harley Quinn to life in the animated series and voiced her over the series including voicing her character in some of the video games like Batman Arkham Asylum and DC universe online. She was also well known for her roles in the ABC series of Days of Our Lives. She passed away at the age of 67 after her battle with multiple sclerosis and is the 2nd voice actor from that series to pass on following the tragic passing of Kevin Conroy in November of last year and I hope that she will rest in peace
We are really living in a Barbie world
It looks like we have a new title holder everyone as it was announced last week as well that we have a new highest grossing film of the Year and it is looking very Pink as Barbie has now officially become the highest grossing movie of the year, surpassing the Super Mario Bros Movie for the Top spot. Now it was helped boosted by the Barbenheimer campaign of the summer season, the marketing to the audience that there was something for those that love and hate Barbie (and for the weird obsession that Ben Shapiro has against this movie that he posted a photo in from of the film after in full attire of Ken at the end of the film, made 3 40+ minute videos on it and made it his entire personality calling it woke when I feel deep down, he liked this movie) and the trend it formed with it. Now personally I enjoyed the film a lot and I need to get to write up my review on it and record it with someone special as well as I promised them I would but I will get to that when I finish through all the other reviews.
But do you think that Barbie deserved all its box office success and do you see any other film crossing the 1 Billion Threshold this year? Let me know what you think down below.
PlayStation Portal got a date for launch
Also just want to also give a little update about everyone's favourite Wall Crawler as it is now confirmed how much storage space you will need for the upcoming new game as it is confirmed for a file size of 98GB for Spider-Man 2 on PS5, so if you need to think of some of the storage you can delete to make space for the game.
But what are your thoughts on this date announcement and will you be picking up a PlayStation Portal? Let me know why or why not down in the comment section below
Marvel at all of these delayed Superhero shows
First the only one not affected is the upcoming release of the 2nd season of LOKI which will still premiere and release new episodes for the season from the 6th of October (it also had a cool promotional event in New York with McDonalds this week), but anything afterr this is where the delays and changes are confirmed.
First off it is now confirmed that Echo is no longer releasing in full at the end of November of this year and will now instead be released at some point at the start of next year in January 2024.
Now instead of leaving the gap it is now being replaced with a 2nd season of another confirmed MCU shows and that is with What If, which currently has no release date yet but is confirmed for a date sometime around Christmas of this year.
Now for the others, we have another animation outing and that is with the upcoming continuation of the 90s X-Men animated series of X-Men 97 that has a release window of Early 2024 with a projection on my end saying about March or Easter of next year.
The next one with a release window is the spin off series focused on Agatha Harkness that has also gotten a new name title of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries which is set for release sometime in the fall of 2024 (personally House of Harkness or Coven of Chaos sounds way better then that subtitle).
Lastly we have 3 shows that have been hit with an unknown release date as of yet (with 2 stuck on production pause because of the strikes) These are the new series that will focus on Iron Heart, the 18 episode series of Daredevil Born Again and the series on Wonderman have all gotten an unknown release date with the latter 2 still in the middle of production.
Now some of these could be further delayed if the strikes continue with no proper deals made for them but we will have to see how it all turns out. But what are your own thoughts of these delays and do you feel more MCU content or Disney stuff will be delayed? Let me know your opinions down below and lets discuss on what will be delayed
Video Games join the front picket lines
But what do you think of this news and do you see the video game companies joining in on the strikes as well? Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments below.
A special mention to meet in the woods
Now before I wrap up this lengthy piece of news discussion of this week, I think it is time for one more special segment announcement. Now this weeks special segment is based on a debut single from a good friend of mine of Aaron, or as I like to call him Woodsy as himself and his bandmates of the Woodmen have released just this week on Friday released their first official single known as "Listen to me Now" which is a tasty emotionally driven acoustic song with a tone of Folk-rock that blends together seamlessly well. Now I gave it a listen when it dropped on Friday Morning and listened to it a few times since then and I have to say it is a really great song and I think that they have great potential and they can be the next big Irish Music sensation. If you have the time and want to listen to their new EP you can listen to the track above or you can check it out on their Spotify and also check out on all platforms you listen to your music on and I will be watching their content with great interest and excitement and will update when they release new songs and music and do support them, they have worked hard on it and deserve all the love.
But that just about brings us to the end of what is a very lengthy episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope you enjoyed this episode and are not tired of me going off on an endless discussion (but if I annoyed you with the super lengthy talk then I apologize) but I hope you enjoyed and I hope you come back for the newest episode next week or whatever the next blog is on. Anyway stay being wonderful people and I will see you all soon and have a great day :)
Signing off,
Sam H
