Weird Mind News Room Episode 34: October 16th - 22nd

Well hello one and all of you very wonderful people that come across this blog to my continuing series I like to call of weird Mind News Room. To those uninitiated, this is a weekly series where I talk on some of the new releases (give plot and reception and some of my own thoughts) in film, shows and games (and others when needed), Some of the trailers from this week as well as some of the news stories that have come from this week too. Now lets not get too much in hellos and hand shakes and lets get to talking on all that has come out this week.

New Releases of the Flower Moon

Movies

Killers of the Flower Moon 

Now we start off the week with the big new release from the famous acclaimed director (and superhero movie No.1 fan) Martin Scorsese as he brings his new true story crime thriller of Killers of the Flower Moon. Now this is based on the true story set in the 1920s about the discovery of Oil on the Osage indinigious people's land, which will lead to the white man killing them to take their oil and these will lead to the creation of the FBI. Now the reception for this film has been very well recieved from its cast, cinematography and story, with some criticism coming in for its overly lengthy runtime as the film is clocking in at just under 3 and a half hours. Now he has defended this decision due to the likes that people go to the theatre to watch a play or binge a 5 hour series on streamins services but with that though, you get an intermission or you can pause it, unlike a cinema. But if you want to check the film out yourself then you can do so now.

Trolls band together

But if you are looking for something a bit more cheery, colourful and a lot more glitter then I would suggest the other new film for this week which is the 3rd entry in the Trolls franchise with Trolls Band together. This new film will see Poppy and Branch officially become a couple and all seems to be a happily ever after, but suddenly one of branch's long lost brothers appears and its discovered he was part of a major big family boy band many years ago and they must rescue their brothers from 2 talentless villains and create the perfect family harmony. Now this is an odd one as because this film is releasing a month earlier then the US, there is very little in terms of reception to go off of on this one but what I have seen from the 2 or 3 that are available it seems the reception is ok with praise for its visuals and cast with music being mixed as well as the plot being formulaic. But if you want to have a weird colourful fever dream for around 90 - 100 mins then you check this one out yourself in cinemas.

Tv Shows

Rick and Morty Season 7

I got myself a new voice Morty. Boom big reveal. Yes after many months of speculation and waiting we have finally gotten the newest season 7 premiere of Rick and Morty that will see more and more new misadventures of the world smartest man of Rick Sanchez and his bumbling grandson of Morty smith and his family. Now the first episode gave us the reveal of the new voice and honestly there is one or 2 times it sounds off bit for most of it, its really well done for the voice that you would not see too much of a difference (if you want to know who voices them you have to check it out yourself). But if you are up for more misadventures, you can check out the first episode now and have a new episode every week on Tuesday nights.

Big Mouth Season 7

and now for a series that I wish would hurry up and end at this point, we have the 7th season of the series that seems to get more and more seasons but any actually good show gets cancelled, its Big Mouth. This season I think is seeing the young teens heading off to high school with new challenges and issues to face and other crude sexual jokes a plenty. Now for some reason this series continues to get near perfect praise when it is bordering on CP nearly at this point (then again Netflix does seem to promote it more) and also I question how some publications give this a better reception then Across the Spider-verse or other actually good animated projects, but if you want to see the near end of this show, you can check it out on Netflix.

Captain Laserhawk: A blooddragon remix

And now from Netflix I think may be worth giving your time too as we have a new anime style series from the executive producer of castlevania, with this also being a super game crossover with Captain Laserhawk: A blood dragon Remix. This series is set in a alt history 1992 in a technocracy ruled by Propaganda and corruption, super soldier Dolph Laserhawk leads a team of rebel outcasts on risky undercover missions to survive in this corrupt world. Now this series has been well recieved for its concept and its gorgeous animation and also this is essentially the Ubisoft cinematic universe that has characters from Splinter cell, Assassins creed, Watch_Dogs and even Beyond good and Evil and Rayman and if you are interested then you can check out the 6 episodes all available on Netflix.

Loki season 2 episode 3

In amongst all of this excessive new releases, it is a reminder to those that are interested that the 3rd episode to the new season of Loki is now available to watch this week and this week will see Loki and Mobius travelling to certain points in time to try and find Renslayer and Miss minutes after the end of season 1 and will lead to the crossing of a certain variant that we know is going to have major consequences to the entire saga going forward. Now I have been enjoying the series so far and hopefully it will stick to a landing for the last half of the series but we will see how it all turns out.

Video Games

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

It is time to become greater together as everyone's favourite wall crawler is back with the much anticipate sequel from Insomniac with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This new game will have you play as both Peter and Miles as they team up to save a much bigger New York from many more new threats including Kraven the Hunter and Venom while also coming to terms with the symbiote that has taken over Peter. Now like the previous 2 games, this one has been greatly recieved by critics for all of the new additions from bigger world, deep and darker story, combat and everything else in between, with some critiques going to its side content but only minor. Now I am not going to quote the thing that everyone says and if you want to swing through New York yourself as Peter and Miles you can do so now as it is available on PS5. 

Super Mario Bros Wonder

Now for something a little more whimsical from the magically creative Mind of Nintendo as we have the newest game from the world of Super Mario with the unexpected twists in Super Mario Bros Wonder. This new game will let you play from a vast array of characters from the bros, Toads, Princesses, Yoshi's and Nabbit as you travel across the vast land of the Flower Kingdom to save the lands from Bowser who has got himself in a mess with the Wonder Flower's power. Now this game has beenn also very highly praised for bringing fresh life to the 2d Mario games, fresh animation style, aesthetic, powerups and everything under the sun and if you want to feel true wonder with friends then you can do so now on Nintendo Switch.

Sonic Superstars

Now its not just the Famous plumber that also has a very big game out this week as everyone's favourite Blue Blur is back with his own new 2D style game of Sonic Superstars. This new game will have you playing as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy as you travel across the new colourful world of the North Star Islands and use the new powers of the Chaos Emeralds to stop Dr Eggman, Fang the Hunter and Trip the Sungazer in an all new 2.5D fast paced game. Now the reception on this game has also been well recieved for its new style for the Sonic games and character choice and bringing some new life to the 2D sonic games and if you want some fast paced fun then you can do so now on PS4/5, Xbox One/ X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong

Now if you want to play as big Monke on a titan scale, then you can get your hands on the all new beat em up game of Skull Island: Rise of Kong. This game will have you play as King Kong himself as you smash and punch your way across Skull island to defeat the Alpha Predator of Gaw and get revenge for the death of your parents. Now this game was announced around 3 months ago and the reception is very bad for this game or non existent and has now been dubbed by some outlets and many online as the worst game of this year, beating out the likes of Crime Boss, Redfall and even Lord of the Rings Gollum (although if you have read last weeks WMNR you will see that their is some reason for it looking bad). But if you want to experience the absolute carnage of a game and see what many have complained about then you can do so on PS4/5, Xbox X/S/One, Switch and PC.

Slenderman The Arrival 10th anniversary

Now technically this game has already been out for a decade but it has a bit of a big push focus the last few weeks that I felt it was only right to to include it and that is with the Creepy Pasta legend of Slenderman is back. Now this is an all new 10th anniversary update to the 2013 game of Arrival with new updated visuals to Unreal engine 5 which technically makes it a remake of the game where you play as Lauren as you try to find out what happened to your friend Kate and what this has to do with a scary tall well dressed man in the woods. Now the reception for this has been good for its new content and its fresh update to the game and with a sequel releasing at the same time or coming sometime later it may be a worth to check it out on PS4/5, Xbone, X/S, Switch and PC now.

Hellboy Web of Wyrd

And to end the extensive new releases of this week, we are heading back to the world of comic books but not with masked superheroes but rather a demon with a grudge, as we have an all new game with the character of Hellboy with Hellboy Web of Wyrd. This new game will see the demon go on a mission to locate the whereabouts of a missing agent from the B.P.R.D and it soon pulls him deeper into the world of Wyrd. Now this game has been hit with some mixed reception as while the artstyle and characters has been well recieved (with this also being the final video game voice from the late Lance Reddick), its combat and simple difficulty has been critiqued, but if you would like to head into the world of Wyrd you can do so yourself on PS4/5, Xbone, Series X/S, Switch and PC.

The Santa Clauses Season 2

Now for the first trailer is something that you are probably not thinking about a certain upcoming holiday as their is another one coming up in 10 days and we will do as much as we can to stop someone fromvDefrosting and another from coming out of their cave but we are talking on an upcoming continuation to a popular series of Holiday or Christmas films with the 2nd season to the Santa Clauses. Now this season will see Scott Calvin and his family become a collective family group of working as a family at the North Pole and for Christmas all year, but soon things take a bit of a turn when it is discovered about the Mad Santa long forgotten has returned from exile and vows to take back the North Pole for himself. Now initially I did watch the first season when it came out last year and it was a weird fever dream from the opening titles and then got weirder as this series also tapped into the thing every studio does now and that is with the Multiverse. But to be fair it was fine and this doesn't look too bad and seems harmless, I may talk on it more nearer to Christmas but you can catch the first 2 episodes of this series when it premieres in about 3 weeks time on November 8th

Ferrari

Now for something with a little bit of velocity and friction as we have recieved a 2nd trailer for the upcoming new film of Ferrari. This new upcoming film is an all new biopic of Automotive Mogul Enzo Ferrari, whose family and himself would redefine the idea of the high powered Italian sportscar and technically create the legacy of the Formula One Racing scene. Now this films looks great and very stylized and with reception from previous film festivals being very positive, you can check out this new film yourself when it releases to cinemas on Boxing day this year.

Napoleon

Now for another tale of a famous face getting their own film as we have recieved another trailer for the newest film from acclaimed director of Ridley Scott and his all new Wartime epic on the life of Napoleon. This new film will follow the military commander's origins and his swift ruthless climb to emperor  which is viewed through the prism of his addictive and even often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. Now Ridley Scott knows how make his epics and this one does look very interesting indeed and very well done. It has also been confirmed this will have 2 new versions with the planned theatrical release and a much longer Directors cut coming out to the streaming platform soon but if you want to check out this film yourself you can do so from the 22nd of November this year. 

Eileen

Now for the final trailer of this week comes to us with a new form of a psychadelic thriller with 2 very well established leads in the adaptation of the Novel of Eileen. Now this is based on the novel of the same name and is set in 1964's Massachusetts, and follow the story of young prison secretary of Eileen (Thomasin Mckenzie) who becomes enchanted by the new consular of Rebecca (Anne Hathaway) and soon their new budding friendship soon takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret. Now this has been something I have seen some discussions about a few weeks back from these Actresses Socials and from the reception and the trailer it seems to look very cool and a well made Thriller and you will be able to find out more of this dark secret from these 2 when the film releases into cinemas on December 1st.

News Band together

Witcher may have enough coin for at least 2 more seasons

So the first bit of news is taking us over to Netflix and we are talking about the epic fantasy series of a beloved series of games based on polish novels and that is of course about the Witcher. Now as we all know we recieved the 3rd season earlier this year to quite a very mixed reception and to even more dislike when it came to the announcement that the main lead of Geralt was being recast from superfan Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth. Now we have no idea when we will see if this will turn out as the show is in limbo until the ongoing strikes but it may seem that some form of long planned journey may be getting cut short as according to a new rumour it seems that the show may run for another 2 seasons before its planned end in Season 5. Now initially when Cavill was still on board it was projected for the most of 7-9 seasons of the show from the streamer and may be going of the established source material but that may be the case of being scrapped as we have known the creative team really did not care for the source material at all whatsoever, so it remains to be seen how these rumoured last 2 seasons will work out as most people are already mad from its lead recasting and Lack of connection to source material when it was best to maybe change the creative team and give a damn about its faithfulness instead but once we learn more confirmed information on this (as this is a rumour right now) I will let you know in a later Episode

Time to get 2 suits pressed in the Kingsman Tailor shop

Our next story will follow a simple code of Manners Maketh Man and that is course talking about the long running series of the Kingsman Franchise. Now since 2014 there has been 3 full length movies released on this franchise with 2 focusing on young agent Eggsy and his mentor Hart and the 3rd was a prequel origin of the secret service group set up during the first world War to stop some very powerful names in history. Now we have known for a while that their is a planned 3rd entry in the mainline series with a focus on Eggsy as well as a planned series or film focused on the 2nd films group of the Statesman but now we have the confirmation of another film and an update to the 3rd outing. Now according to director Matthew Vaughn, who was at NYCC last week promoting his new film of Argylle, he has made mention that his planned next film will be the long awaited 3rd Eggsy Kingsman film that is planned to start filming or is planned for a release sometime in 2024, but I am thinking it is more starting filming and then released a year later most likely. Now he had initially planned to start filming this at sometime last year but due to scheduling conflicts and script rewrites it has been quite a while to get to it (plus the last film of the Kings Man was delayed a few times due to the pandemic so it may have effected its release). Speaking of Kings man it seems we are confirmed to be getting another prequel film that has a subtitle name of The Traitor king. Now this one is building on the mid credits scene of the most recent film and will follow the rise and rule over the Furher and either lead to a 3rd film during the 2nd World War or from the 20s to 1945. Now it is unknown when exactly we will see this film release or start filming but I am sure that we'll get some word in the near future and I will update on that when the time comes.

dang gum, some all new crocs

I will keep this one brief but Surprisingly we have another new clothing based news and will relate to a previous entry in the similar clothing item of shoes. Now as I mentioned in the last one we have the confirmed version of Shrek Crocs being made and releasing and they follow the King of them with the Lightning Mcqueen crocs, well it looks like we are getting the connective piece to McQueen and it is from his best friend and tow truck companion of Mater. Yes the Mater crocs have been announced and have also been possibly an upgrade to the shoes itself as their may have been an early version from years ago but I could be wrong. Now not much else is known but these should be releasing sometime soon and I will get an update on that when it does (hopefully)

Merc with the Mouth may need more time

Now for the first of 2 pieces of news relating to Marvel and we return again to the merc with a Mouth as we talk on the upcoming Deadpool 3. Now as you know if you have followed along to this channel blogs and YT videos then you know that Hollywood has been gripped by Strikes with one that is still ongoing being the Actors strikes. Now because of this a lot of films have stopped major film press for actors and filming on some films and one of those that was majorly affected was Deadpool as it was in the middle of production before it was halted by the strikes and now there is concern that the film will not be ready by its may 2024 release. Well now those worries seem to be near accurate as according to reports it seems that the film will be delayed from its initial date to release sometime later in the year with it rumoured for a November or December release in 2024. Now this then leaves a spot for another film to take its place from the MCU and it seems there is one that is I believed completed, maybe just some visual touch ups or small scenes to film or reshoot and that is with Captain America Strange New World which may return to that initial slot it was planned for release originally. Now at the moment it has been reported and not confirmed yet but once their is confirmation I will update here or in a follow up episode.

Glondolkin school in session in sophomore year

Now for another small news story but we are going over to Amazon Prime and talking on their superheroes, in particular their series of the Boys. Now as you know the series is very popular with 3 highly praised series of the original as well as a high praised spin off of Gen V that is currently in syndication with its 6th episode of the first season releasing this week. Well its not the only season as it was announced around mid week that class is in session for a sophomore year as it was confirmed for a 2nd season to GEN V. Now not much is known when the new season will release with most case will be after season 4 of the boys but I will say about 2025 at the latest for these new young adult supes.

Marvel VFX head being let go may have been revealed

Now to wrap up this week is the 2nd story to Marvel Studios and this relates back to an older story on this blog which relates to the head of Marvel VFX Victoria Alonso being let go from the company. Now initially the reasoning was due to her breaching contract as she was a producer of the film of Minara, a film thatcreleased last year and was nominated for awards and because of that she was let go. Well now more has come to light and it relates to a rumour about that floated around the tike of her termination and it has to do with the film of Quantumania. According to the book of MCU: The reign of Marvel Studios, the reasoning for this was due to some in the studio requesting for her to remove some of the subtle themes of LGBTQ in the film as they worried it would affect release in foreign markets, but she wanted to include them and mixed with the Minara drama it led to how it was of her leaving the company. Now in all case having some small subtle LGBTQ themes in a film while not being overdone probably could've passed the release in another country where if it was fully that, you get that (then again some countries banned the recent Spider-verse for including a flag supporting Transgender people so what do I know).
