Weird Mind News Room Episode 36: October 30th - November 5th
*We gotta move it to the music*
Hello again to you one and all to the Weird Mind News Room a thon where I will be bringing you through all that their is to offer on this heavy bundle of news this week from the New Releases, The Trailers and all of the News that we have to offer and a special little segment for a special shout out to some people, so lets not waste too much time on things and lets get to the content that has come out of this week.
Think New Releases, Think
Movies
Bottoms
So we start off this weeks new releases with an all new High school comedy and LGBTQ story that packs quite a punch in the newest film of Bottoms. Now this new film will follow Highschool best Friends of PJ and Josie who decide to start a new fight club for girls in order to meet other women and hopefully for both to lose their virginity, but they soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular student starts beating themselves up all in the name of Self-defense. Now this film has been very well recieved and has been labelled as the best comedy to come out of this year and its praise for its teams and female empowerment and if you want to check it out yourself then you can do so in cinemas
Tv Shows
Invincible Season 2
And now for the tv shows of the week with the big and most anticipated release to come out of this week with an extensive wait, we finally have the first episode of the new season of Invincible. Now this series will follow on from the end of the first season after an earth shattering betrayal and will follow Mark as he tries to get his life back on track as he makes some new adversaries and allies, all while trying to surpass his most greatest fear that he may become a lot like his father of Omni Man. Now the reception on this season, similar to the first season has been very strongly recieved from its plot, animation and action scenes and if you want to check it out then you can catch the first episode of the new season now and a new episode every Friday into the new year on Amazon Prime.
Lawman Bass Reeves
Now if you are unaware, one of the biggest shows to come out of streaming in the last few years is the tv series of Yellowstone that has so far spawned 2 spin-offs, five season of the main series and many more to go with it and they are all from the creator of Taylor Sheridan, and now he is back with an all new western based series with Lawman Bass Reeves. This series will take us back to the 1870s and will follow the true story of Bass Reeves and his story of becoming the first Black Deputy U.S Marshal on the west of the Mississippi river. Now the reception so far for the series has been seen as positive and still has the charm and interest of the original Yellowstone series and you can catch this series with a new episode every Sunday on Paramount+
Loki Season 2 episode 5
Now to just a little update that I have skipped a little over the last week or 2 but we have the penultimate episode of the 2nd season to Loki and this will give us the full answer of what exactly happened at the end of the dramatic cliffhanger of the last episode and how will it continue on as we go into the final 2 episodes. Now I have given it a watch and I think it is still a great series and hopefully the series will stick the landing in the final episode next week but we will see how it turns out next week.
Video Games
Warioware Move It!
Its time to get on your feet and get to moving as we are joining the money loving Wario in an all new game in the popular Warioware series with WarioWare: Move it! Now this new game will see Wario and friends take a trip on vacation and will go into blending with a lot of very quick fire Minigames to progress the story and have you moving and grooving in all different ways. Now the reception on this has been well recieved as has most of the other entries in the series and you can get to moving and grooving yourself on the Nintendo Switch.
Robocop Rogue City
Dead or Alive you're coming with him, as we are heading to the mean streets of Detroit with the steel force of the Law as we have an all new game based on the classic 80s film with Robocop Rogue City. This new game will take place after the events of Robocop 2 and you will take on the robotic force of the law as you clean up the mean streets of Detroit and find out who is the rumoured "New guy" that is a possible crime boss of the city. Now the reception on this game has been very well recieved and has been seen as a proper successor to the original film as well for story and world building with some graphical issue being the most of the critiques, but if you want to bring justice into your own hands then you can do so now on PS5, Series X/S and PC.
Silent Hill Ascension
Now for something that has not seen a major release since the very anticipating teaser of a looping hallway got turned into a pachinko machine and the company drank someone's tears as we return to the long dormant series of Silent Hill with the new game of Silent Hill Ascension. This new game mixes an Silent Hill Canon with an all new Audience led decision based form that will spread its release over a few months that will follow 2 families that are slowly become ruined by death and mysticism. Now the game has been heavily panned for feeling very messy and full of gotcha type assets with the form of a Battlepass system and the likes of it all being done with audience participation has led to may NSFW problems and issues and has now been restricted in comments so it is all falling apart. Each of this series is run under a timed limited thing so if you want to check it out it is available on IOS and Android I think and on the official website.
Jumanji Wild Adventures
And to conclude the new releases of the week, while the 3rd entry of the reboot series is still a bit of a time away, you can enter back into the ever changing world of a board game turned video game with the newest entry of Jumanji Wild Adventures. This game will have you play as one of the four main lead characters from the recent Jumanji films as they journey across vast lands in order to save the land from evil do-ers and restore the land of Jumanji. Now reception on it may not have a lot of them but what their is seems to be decently recieved as a fun little adventure with friends or family and if you are looking for some adventures with friends you can do so on PS4/5, Xbone and series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
Trailers of the planet of the Apes
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Now to start off the trailers for the week is with a series that I was thinking was all done and ended on a high note. Now what you may not know is that one of my favourite trilogies of films from recent memory is the reboot Planet of the Apes Trilogy that started really good, sequel topped it and I feel the finale was on par or slightly better to make it an excellent trilogy. Now this new film will continue the legacy of the ape that started it all from his remaining son with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. This new one will see the apes become the dominant species and humans being left to a level of near extinction and evolved to a more feral state. But when a new leader of Proximus Ceasar try's to stop the teachings of the ape that lead them to freedom, a young ape named Noa (and possibly Cornelious depending how long after this film is set) will go on a journey to find freedom and stop the death of the teachings with the help of a young human woman names Mae. Now I was skeptical when they announced this given the series ended on a high note and that the director of Matt Reeves was not returning but I think what I have seen so far does look pretty good and visually looks great like the previous films and this new kingdom will rise or fall when this releases to cinemas on May 24th next year.
The Fall Guy
Now for a new film that will have many men go "that's literally me" with any film that has the main male lead in it and this is with the new action film of the Fall Guy. Now this film will be based on an 80s tv series of the same name and will follow stunt man Colt (played by Ryan Gosling) working on a new film of the worlds biggest A-list star and directed by an ex partner of his (played by Emily Blunt). But when the movie star goes missing and the film is threatened of being shut down, it is up to Colt to become the real action star and find the missing actor and save the film . Now this does look like it will be a very entertaining action film and going off this being the director of some of the best action films like the original John Wick, Bullet Train and Deadpool 2 then I am sure this will be a fun bit of action when this film drops on March 1st 2024
Sonic Dream Team
Now its tome to go fast to your phone as we have an all new game of everyone's favourite Blue Hedgehog with Sonic Dream Team. This new game will be an all new 3d sonic game where you can play as a choice of six different characters of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream and Rogue as you explore new world, collect the emeralds and stop Eggman or whoever the threat is this time around. Now it looks decent but the one complaint everyone has is that it is locked to the Apple Arcade when it would work for all phones and consoles, but we will see how the response turns out when this game releases in December.
The Day Before
and now for a game that many assumed never actually existed and was all an elaborate ruse but we have gotten a trailer for the game of The Day before. This is an all new open world Post Apocalyptic game where you will take on the role of a survivor and travel across the remnants of an American city after humanity is brought to a halt by a zombie like epidemic. Now it does look visually well put together but this game has been quite the elaborate backdrop to it all that I am not getting too deep into but if you want to see what it is all about then you can check out the game on early access next month on December 10th.
Godzilla Minus One
Now for an all new titan based wreckathon, we are heading over to the company of Toho for an all new look at their newest Kaiju film of Godzilla Minus one. Now this will be set after the events of WW2 and see this titan cause absolute chaos and destruction across the land. Now this seems to be relating back to a more big budget form of the one that started it all and seems to look very menacing and cool and you can check it out yourself when the film drops on December 1st
Marvel Studios Echo
And to end the trailers for this week and coming out of nowhere on Friday afternoon, but we have gotten an all new look at the next live action series coming to us from Marvel Studios initially planned for release at the end of the month but was delayed into the new year but we have the first trailer for the Marvel series of Echo. Now this will follow on from the characters introduction in Hawkeye as she returns to her hometown to come to term with her past, reconnect with their native American roots and embrace her family and community in the midst of chaos in Hell's Kitchen. Now this series was one that was a little divided but this is now going for a more mature rating similar to the classic Netflix series and you can catch the entire series for yourself when it all drops on January 10th.
News of the upcoming releases
Ad Free payment brought to you by the Zucc
Now we start the news off this week with a little bit of tech news courtesy of social media company of Meta. Now as you know social media has taken over a lot of our lives and especially in the last decade of the 2010s as it has grown from something niche to a multi-billion dollar companies but it has not been without its issues, from security, bots, possible scams and offensive material or simply being bought by rich people and on the verge of a complete breakdown mess. Now one of the biggest thing that most people hate is with ads and it nearly seems at this rate that any of these social media apps is around 80-90% Ads with around 10% of actual content and has caused a lot of people to be annoyed or rarely see a point of using it, but now they have provided a solution that may divide many. It was announced earlier this week that Meta is considering or is planning to make a subscription based form to Facebook and Instagram that for a monthly subscription to have an ad free service. Now I can see what they are going for as most social apps and even some streaming services have provided a payment service of ones with ads or ones without and I can get where they are going with it, but some may find a way of making their ad look like a normal video and find a loophole but it is hard to say. Now we have no idea if and when this will happen or how much it will cost but once I hear anything I will let you know in the comments or in a future episode when more info is presented.
But what do you think about all that is presented here and do you think this in itself is a good idea and how much would you predict it will cost? Let me know your opinions on it down below in the comments.
We'll be there for him to remember him for a long time
Now for something that happened so suddenly last week and considered to tack it on to last week but wanted to give it a respect moment to it all this week. Now tragically we lost an iconic name in sitcom history and that was with Actor Matthew Perry who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 54. Perry was well known for his major role as Chandler Bing on the massive sitcom of F.R.I.E.N.D.S as the funny member of the group. Besides his well known role he was also known for being an iconic symbol for helping many with addiction to painkillers and alcohol as he had been through himself and many respect him for how he has presented it and helped thousands or millions over the years. He passed away in his home late Saturday evening last week from a cardiac arrest. While he may have passed on from this life his legacy will live on in the show that he was most well known for and hope that he will Rest in Peace.
Variety and Marvel: A think piece
Now we are heading back over to the world of superheroes and in particular with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we are delving into some info provided from an all new think or hit piece from the publication of Variety. Now from the article their is a few bits of discussion they have brought up and I will be delving into the case of talking about how things may be heading towards from their findings.
First off is with the elephant in the room and that is what to do about Johnathon Majors. As mentioned last week in my last episode blog and video, one of the films that was removed from a release schedule was with Magazine dreams, a film staring Majors in what could be an Awards contender film. Now the reason for this and the dilemma is to do with his legal issues as he will be heading to court in 3 weeks time for some domestic charges of assault that he was arrested for way back in late March of this year. Now if he was a minor character in the MCU it could be easily recast but the issue seems to stem from the fact they have made him the next big bad after Thanos for this new Saga and supposedly will be much more of an issue with how the finale of Loki season 2 is shaping up to be. Now some have considered that they may replace him with a bigger threat in the form of Dr Doom, but it will be need to be seen how this will turn out in the end.
Next is to do with the upcoming release of The Marvels as their is some concern from its month of reshoots and the director needing to work on another film at the same time in the middle of post production and the worry the film will underwhelm as it is projected for a 75-90 million opening compared to the 153 million Captain Marvel opening weekend in 2019 or Multiverse of Madness's 185 Million last year. Now I am sure it may come down to appeal and word of mouth and reception but I see it as being a possible box office earner in the long run (given the quiet-ish month)
Another comes with the deal of VFX teams and how they have been overwhelmed with so many deadlines and project all at once that it has become to a point that they are working many long days and hours and seems to be not up to a level of top quality they were once at years ago, this was the reason they filed to unionize around 2 months ago in early September and hopefully will see it get a bit of a fix by reducing the level of content at any given time.
This also brings to question about the amount of content as while it made some sense of focusing soley on the film side, when it came to the new phase it branched into TV on Disney+ with many other shows like Wandavision, She-Hulk, Loki, Hawkeye and many more that it got much more convoluted for many fans that the sense of superhero fatigue started to show a whole lot more. If it was the case of reducing the amount of content and spacing it out more then having so much in a single year that it may help many of the other issues that it has presented itself.
Lastly one of the big rumoured ones to come out of this is that they have considered doing an all new Avengers film with that original cast again which would revive the deceased Avengers of Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man and Scarlett Johannason's Black Widow as well as making Chris Evans Captain America younger again. Now this is just some speculation on this front that will help a little with the Majors problem but it needs to be said how this all turns out in the end.
Now their is a lot to this whole article and I may give it its own separate blog piece on it as their is a lot to unfold and talk about (maybe do a live version of it all and get live feedback or discuss it with people) but it seems like a bit of an interesting discussion. But what are your own thoughts on this piece in particular and how would you go about in improving the issues they are finding themselves in? Let me know what you think down in the comments below and lets discuss them.
Many a new release and starts
and to cap off on the news stories is to do with some announcements of dates for some of the new streaming series coming from 2 majors streamers of Amazon Prime (a story that I somehow missed to mention last week) and HBO (or Max) with many release dates, release windows and planned productions.
So I will start this one with the one piece that I have completely forgot about from last week and this one is coming to us from Amazon Prime and in particular an all new adaptation of a video game. Now for the last 2 or 3 years we have known that Prime video was making an adaptation of the long running popular Bethesda series of Fallout, well now we know when D-day from leaving the vault will be known as it was confirmed early last week that the new Fallout TV series will be premiering around Easter of next year and in particular April 12th. Now it is unclear if we will see any form of footage for the series before the end of the year (beside the leaked trailer from the showcase a few weeks back around the launch of Starfield) but I am sure we will get a proper look at this new adaptation real soon.
Speaking of Adaptations, we do have an update to one that came out early this year and is in my opinion one of the very best adaptations of all time and that was with The Last of Us. Now we have known since the release of the series that the show was entering into a 2nd season which will most likely fill the gap or jump to the plot of the 2nd game and it was the big speculation of when exactly we were going to get that in particular as it was all set to go at this point but things got a bit more all over the place once the Writers and Actors strikes happened so it was a case of being a little all over the place but we do have some good news for this particular franchise. at the recent HBO Max conference, it was confirmed that we have a planned production start day for the 2nd season and that it is planned to start shooting in the early new year. Now it's unclear if the series will do a lot like the first season of being filmed over the course of one year to give it that great detail from the showrunners so it is unknown if we will see this series dropping late next year but most case will see it release in early 2025 but in all honesty I can wait for that and see how they will make the excellent (albeit controversial) 2nd games story.
But while that one may not see the light until 2025, there is something that will bring the fire instead to make that wait less tedious and that is of course with the anticipated release of the 2nd season to the Game of Thrones Prequel of House of the Dragon. Now we had seen that they had started production on the series back just before the strikes happened and I think they got as much as they could get made in the time before the actors joined the picket line themselves so we have no clue how far along they were until now as it was confirmed at the same conference of a release window for the next season of this series and it is projected for an early Summer release next year. Now it remains to be seen if the likes of this series will be reduced in episode size or if this will see a delay to have it completed with all the post production and VFX and what not (which is to say even if they can resume production anytime soon) but if anything does come up I will let you know in a later episode.
And lastly just a little update on another one from HBO we have an update on when you can expect to see the 3rd season of the Emmy award winning series of Euphoria. Now it was also confirmed that we will not see the next season of this until at least 2025 at the latest and will be a more Film Noir style and seen through the eyes of Emmy Winner, Zendaya. Now it will have to be seen if they address the sudden passing of Angus cloud in the new season but I guess we will find out when the time comes.
But what are your thoughts on all of these announcements and are you excited for any of them in particular? Let me know your own thoughts on them down below in the comments.
A Special segment to remember
Now before I wrap up this episode of weird mind news room I wanted to do another little special segment to give a bit of a shout out to some people and in particular to a fair few friends of mine who have all have graduated from college just this week and in the week before. Many of them may have done some year out, did a year repeat, A PLC or were working on a masters degree or other forms of degree, I want to say a very well done to each and every one of you for getting their. I want to give a congratulations to Danny, Connor, Sunny, Nathan H, Nathan E, Catherine, Gavin and Shaun (if there is anyone that I have missed I apologise and can make a follow up or throw your name in the description or comments or some other part), to each of you a very well done. Now I know I spent my own four years with a few of yous and it has been a real pleasure working alongside you and call you some very close colleagues of mine and here's to this being the starting point to many big and great things to you all in the future and beyond and who knows maybe we will even work close with one another again.
And with that, this bring us to the end of another new episode of Weird Mind News room and I do hope you enjoyed my chin waggling rambling for another week. Let me know all of your thoughts of all that was discussed down in the comments below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday.
Signing off
