Weird Mind News Room Episode 46: Jan 8th - 14th

*learning of the music with some childlike wonder*

Hello again everyone to the 46th entry in the long running series of Weird Mind News Room where I will be delving into talking about all of the new Releases we have this week, some of the trailers of interest and the News stories from casting and announcements and all other things, so lets not waste too much of an issue and lets get right to the content of this week

New Release Things

Movies
Poor things

So starting the new releases of the week is bringing us a film finding itself in the award circuit with the new black comedy thriller period piece of Poor things. This film will see a famous scientist bring a woman back from the dead after she took her own life and replaced with the mind of a young child placed in her head will learn about many things from life and education to as far as even love and sexual escapades. Now this film has garnered some very strong positive praise and was one of the best reviewed films of last year and has been winning some strong awards right now and if you want to experience this for yourself and see what everyone is raving about then you can do so now in cinemas.

The Beekeeper

Now for the first of the action popcorn films of the year as we see everyone's rugged hardman Jason Statham leading the charge in the new film of the Beekeeper. This will see Statham be called to take action into his own hands with the skills he garnered from the powerful clandestine organization of the Beekeepers when his kind elderly neighbor takes her own life after evil people had swindled her and stolen all of her money and will do anything to take it down and avenge her. Now this film has garnered some decent reception and praised for its action and story and if you want a bit of action to lift those very January Blues then you can check it out in cinemas.

The Boys in the boat

And the last of the new films for this week is a new true story film from actor George Clooney with the Boys in the Boat. Now this film is based on the true story of the University of Washington rowing team, and how through their trials and tribulations, gave them the chance to compete in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Now the film has been hit with some mixed reception that while the film has its charm and is decently shot, it leaves it lacking in giving it much of a major memorable style compared to most other films. But if you want a bit of a feel good true story film then look no further then checking this one out in cinemas.

Tv Show
Echo

Now for the first of the new shows for this year and we start with the release of the all new series courtesy of the MCU with their first in the Spotlight series of shows as well as it being a much more mature show with the new series of Echo. Now this will follow the character of Maya, who we were introduced to in Hawkeye, as she tries to take down the army of Kingpin after she has supposedly killed him in that previous shows finale and bring power in her own accord while facing her past, her native American lineage and her family and community. Now the reception of this series has been decently recieved with praise for it main lead of Alaqua Cox, the more mature tone of the series and for some other performance and action scenes with some mixed reception towards its plot elements and a bit of an underwhelming finale but if you want to check out the series yourself you can catch the full 5 episodes now on Disney+.

Sonic Prime Season 3 (Final season?)
And to wrap it up with all of the new releases for this week we are going fast with everyone's favorite blue blur is back once again with the 3rd season of Sonic Prime. Now this will continue the story and possibly even be the last season for the show as Sonic and Shadow must combine their powers together and save the multiverse from the shattered multiverse shards from falling into the wrong hands and messing with the multiple worlds contained in them. Now the reception on the 3rd season like the previous seasons has been decently recieved for its flashly animation, its interesting story and great focus on action, even if some feel it be a lot of the action can feel monotonous after a while but if want some fun to watch for the whole family then you can check out the new and possibly last season now on Netflix.

Trailers to sign to

Masters of the Universe: Revolution

By the power of animation, I HAVE THE TRAILER!!!!!!! as Kevin Smith and Netflix has come along and dropped a new look at the upcoming series of Master of the Universe: Revolution. This new series will follow on from the very divisive Revelation series (Well in the focus to audiences cause they mad that the series is being the main lead being a whamen) that will see Teela teaming up with He-Man and the other masters on their quest to save Eternia from the grip of Darkness. Now I think that visually this looks stunning and the action and cast sound great and hopefully people will actually not get mad about this series when this drops on Netflix in about 2 weeks time on January 25th.

Back to Black
Now for an all new release of a biographical film focusing the attention on the life and career of a popular artist and this new one will be focused on the singer of Amy Winehouse with the trailer for Back To Black. This will follow the life of the young artist and show her life turning around from starting her successful music career and focusing a bit on their messy personal life from addiction , relationships and struggles up to her sudden tragic passing in mid 2011 at the young age of 27. Now the film looks decent and the actress playing Amy does look the part and hopefully will be a very well respectful film and we will see how it all comes together when the film releases in cinemas on April 12th.

Abigail
Now the last of the trailers from this week comes to us from the directors of the underrated Black comedy thriller of Ready or Not that I thought would be a simple film but turned around very quickly with a new film known simply as Abigail. Now this will follow a group of criminals who have been tasked to keep the daughter of a dangerous criminal in the home for 24 hours for them to recieve their share of $50 million, but it is soon discovered that this will not be as easy as they seem as this little girl has a supernatural form and soon these criminals will be in for a fight for survival to make it out alive. Now when watching the trailer at first I was thinking it may be some mad man's house of traps but when it was revealed the twist then I was immediately invested and you can check this film out when it also releases in cinemas on April 19th.

News of the upmost media interest

The Last of Us has got some new survivors
Now we shall start this weeks news with the big announcement of some casting news of course and it is all going to be based on the follow-up season to one of the best shows of 2023. Now as you are aware and have mentioned in the past (and will do a in depth lengthy video on it at some point) that one of my personal favourite shows from the last year was the adaptation of The Last of Us from HBO and it was known for a fair bit of time that we would be getting a 2nd season to the show that would be tackling probably a decent chunk of the divisive Last of Us Part 2 and the big question since the first season ended was when will we learn of some of the cast for some of the big named characters for this season from the game and this week, we finally got at least 3 of those casting confirmations where we were given the casting of a new character each day and I will give them the info in order of announcement.

So on Monday we recieved the word that the debated character of the sequel in Abby will be played this time around by Kaitlyn Dever. Now she is no stranger to fan castings as she was the initial choice that everyone wanted to play Ellie in the series before the role was given to Bella Ramsey and I do think that they have done a very decent casting in this and hopefully people will be a bit more open to her character instead of people sending death threats to the original voice actress for the character which was unneeded and a fair bit of toxicity is still leveled to the studio who made the game when these people complained when they wanted something different. Anyway moving onto the 2nd casting was on Tuesday we go the confirmation of Young Mazino will be taking on the role of Jesse in this series. Now his most known recent talents was in the popular series of Beef and while I may not have seen him in the show or seen the series yet I have heard he is excellent so I will give it a chance in this. And lastly on Wednesday we got the official word that the character of Dina will be played by Isabela Merced. Now you may know her for her roles in Instant Family, she was Dora the explorer in that live action film from a few years ago and she also appearing in 2 upcoming superhero films as one of the girls in Madame Web and as Hawkgirl in Next Years Superman Legacy so I think they have done a great choice in that decision. Now I am sure we will hear some word on the casting of the other known characters from this game including Abby's gang of friends and with Lev and Yara (and personally I did read that the actor who played Lev in the game would want to play themselves again in the series and I think they would do it well) but I am sure we will get the confirmation on that by the time they start filming on the new series next month.

But what are your thoughts on these casting choices and who do you see being casted as the other characters yet tp be announced and given how big of a game part 2 is, how many seasons do you see of this game being made for the show? Let me know of what you think of it all in the comments down below.

The Wins and Pitfalls of the Golden globes and Creative Arts Emmy's

Now this one I will be keeping brief but the next story we are talking about award shows and specifically 2 that had just aired live on the weekend and this was the golden globes and the Creative Arts Emmy's (the proper Emmy's will be airing sometime next week) and I want to give a quick little rundown on some of the big winners and predicted hopefuls for the big old Oscars in early March, as well as talk on one of the big issues many got from this years Globes as well.

So starting with the creative arts I will give the focus that the big winner of this Emmy's was from HBO's The Last of Us winning 8 awards on the night which included some very prestigious awards in visuals, art and makeup, cinematography and an award for Storm Reid for her performance as Riley in Episode 7 and for Nick Offerman as Bill in the beautiful episode 3. The runner up in award wins came from the sports based reality series of Welcome to Wrexham that took home 5 wins. The other shows that garnered some strong wins included Wednesday, The Bear and Still: A Michael J. Fox movie (an excellent documentary I would recommend) and it seems to have went off without a hitch.

As for the Globes, both of the sides of film and tv had 2 clear winners on both ends with the big winner for the movies was going with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer winning 5 of its 8 nominations including best film in Drama, best actor for Cillian Murphy, Supporting actor for RDJ and best Director for Nolan, with the runner ups in the film category being Poor things winning best film in Musical or comedy and best Actress with Emma Stone and Barbie winning box office achievement and best original song for "what I was made for" (would have chosen I'm Just Ken or Peaches but I guess that is only just my vote). A surprise one to me winning was Boy and the Heron over Across the Spider-verse but it had to have been one of the 2 options either one has a chance in winning the award for the Academy Awards soon. As for the tv side of things, the big winner was going to the final season of Succession winning 4 of its 9 nominations (which feels a little debated given most of the nominations were in the same award category) and the other 2 big winners were with Beef and the Bear taking home around 2 wins each. Now felt that Last of Us got a little overlooked slightly but I guess it makes more sense in the focus to the creative arts and the Emmy's for that instead.

Now I would normally leave it there but I do want to mention quickly on the controversy and massive complaint of this award show and that is with the host of Jo Koy. Many online pundits and even a lot of the guests in the audience were not looking that impressed or amused by the host who kept making a lot of unfunny jokes and jokes that made a lot of sexual jokes towards the films and shows with a lot of female leads or cast and many seemed to be the case of wondering why he was chosen for the hosting (especially when the show over the last few year has been criticized for lack of diversity in hosts and mostly been run by White men). Now he has apologized for some of them and I am sure they will learn from this for the next awards show in the next year.

But what are your own thoughts on all of these awards wins and what do you think should have won the awards for the categories and what are your thoughts on the whole dilemma from the host of the show? Let me know what you think of it all down below and lets have a little discussion about it.

forget the superbowl, I only interested in the advertisements
Now for a news story you would not expect from me but lets talk sports. Now I am mainly talking on the first big known sports event of the year with the upcoming Superbowl in Mid February and while many are looking forward to the actual sporting event, I am looking forward to all of what to expect from its advertising and more specifically the trailer for upcoming projects. Now we have quite the selection of films and shows coming out over the next few months that could be unveiled at this year game and a good chunk will be some speculation but its not all as we have 1 or 2 that may be confirmed. Now the first one that has been given a confirmation is the possible first look or extended look at the upcoming release of Despicable Me 4 that has been confirmed to be shown at the event which does make sense and am surprised Illumination hasn't already started marketing after the release of the rise of Gru. The other one that has been possibly confirmed is the first look trailer at the upcoming release of Deadpool 3 which I think will make sense for it to get a first look into the threequel around that event as Disney and Marvel usually have some form of presence at the event. Now I want to give a quick prediction of some of the other trailers to expect from each of the studios.

With Disney the most likely other trailer we will see is a new trailer for the upcoming sequel to Inside Out that will give us a proper look at the new emotions that were teased at the rerelease of Soul in the US and while I would say we will see something of a trailer or a snippet for Lion King 2, we could get a sizzle reel of shows and films including the rumoured Live Action Lilo and Stitch at the event as some likely options.

On the likes of Universal, besides Despicable Me 4, the most likely other footage and trailer will be a new look at the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 4, a first look at Twisters, a new trailer for The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and at a possible stretch they will release a teaser for the first part of the adaptation to Wicked but that one may be a little too far out to release footage at this date and time.

On Warner Bros the most likely will see a new trailer for Furiosa, a tv spot for Dune Part 2, trailers for Godzilla x Kong and Challengers and at a possible stretch with a trailer for Beetlejuice 2 and Joker 2 but again it is too early to say.

While Sony is not the most likely of appearing at the event they could see a new trailer or tv spot for ghostbuster frozen empire, a tv spot for Madame Web and most likely the first trailer for Bad Boys 4 and new trailer for Garfield. There also could be a new look at Kraven the Hunter but they will want to promote Madame Web before hand with it releasing 3 days after the event.

Lastly with Paramount, we will see the likes of the first trailer for Quiet Place Day one, a new trailer for IF, a teaser for either the upcoming series on the character of Knuckles and possibly Sonic 3 and maybe a first look at the upcoming Transformers animated movie but the first 3 options seem the most likely but again we will probably get some proper confirmations closer to the event.

And to wrap it all up I will give some thoughts that it may see the likes of releases for trailer for Rebel moon part 2 for Netflix, a first trailer for the John Wick Spin Off Ballerina, a trailer for the Boys and Fallout for Amazon with a release date for the former and the last one at a bit of a stretch is we will get the official name of Jordan Peele's next film releasing this Christmas. Now again it may be at least 1 or 2 from each studio and I am sure we will see with any new confirmations and news over the next 2 or so week before the event kicks off on February 11th.

But what are your own predictions on the trailers and news from this event and what do you see being advertised? Let me know your own predictions down below now in the comments and lets discuss some predictions.

What does some titans, ghosts and a console all have in common
And now for the part of the news where I will give some very quick updates on some release date changes with the first 2 focusing on a release date shift for 2 films and then a possible leaked release date for an upcoming product that has been mentioned over the last little while and I will run down those dates now.

Now we start with the 2 films and both are movies that are releasing close enough to both of each other and not too far off of release and that is with the supernatural film of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire and the other is the monster blockbuster of Godzilla x Kong. Both of these films have garnered the good news of being released earlier then expected as both have been pushed up a week from their initial dates of March 29th and April 12th to a release on March 22nd and April 5th. now the new empire one may get a bit of an extra early release as some have mentioned it is coming out on March 29th instead which I could see happen but most case will come out on the 5th given it is in competition with a Panda that knows Martial Arts.

And as for the other big rumoured release date that I will bring up is relating back to a story I talked on last week and this is with the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Now I mentioned before that we will be getting the new console in the fall of 2024 and now a supposed leaked rumour month has dropped online courtesy of Game Shark files. Apparently going off the data files, it seems this Switch successor is planning for a release in September of this year, which fits the fall release date for the console. Now it could get a slight release change from that month by a delay into October or a release moved up to August but at the moment it has not been confirmed or acknowledged yet by Nintendo of when we will see that get any form of news just yet but I am sure by I'm gonna say the next Nintendo Direct in February, we will get that first tease at the console, but for now all we can do is speculate.

But what are your thoughts on these announcements and for the Switch one when exactly do you see it release. Personally I can see a mid to late September drop but only time will tell but let me know when you think down below in the comments.

This is the Way to bring Mando and the Little one to the big screen
And now to a galaxy far, far away for this next story as we are talking on one of the upcoming projects that will be making its way to the big screen from the Star Wars Universe. Now one of the most popular series to come out of Star Wars was the first one that started the trend which was with The Mandalorian and we have seen 3 seasons since 2019, where the first 2 were well liked and the most recent season had a bit of a rough landing (I thought season 3 was decent, but felt that it could've been a fair bit more better but had a very good finale). Now Mando and Grogu (or baby Yoda) have been some fan favourites in the saga since their first appearance and has seen them crossover into some of the other new series as of recent including Book of Boba Fett and Ashoka, while it is unclear if we will see them appear in the likes of any other show like Skeleton Crew, but we do know that these 2 will be heading to the big screen sometime in the future and we have gotten a bit of an update to that as well. Now we have gotten the confirmation that series creator of Jon Faverau, who is also known for his directing duties on Iron Man, The Jungle Book, Lion King and Chef, will be taking on the directing duties for this feature film. Now I do have some good faith in his direction with this film if it all works out well for them and if it is a case that he may need to step down as director, the 3 backups I would choose between would be Dave Filoni, Rick fukuyisha or Bryce Dallas Howard as the back up directors as they have all made great episodes of star wars tv. Now it will be worth to know if this will be a film solely on Mando and Grogu or if it will tie into the other shows and we will see Boba Fett and Ashoka and the Rebels team up to take down Admiral Thrawn and possibly Moff Gideon if he is not killed off by then but I am sure we will find out more as the film enters into production and releases sometime soon.

Now I would like to hear your thoughts on whether or not Faverau will make a decently good Star Wars film and who would you like to see appear or direct the film otherwise? Let me know what you feel down below in the comments section.

MatPat Leaving is not a theory

And finally we have a bit of somber news and this is coming to us from the video streaming giant of Youtube. Now you may have noticed that since the start of this year and a little at the end of last year it saw some big names from the last decade or so of Youtube announcing they are either leaving Youtube or taking a break or bringing a new approach to the channel with some names like Tom Scott, Meat Canyon, Moo Snuckle, Captain Sparklez, Stampeylonghead and many more and now we have one that I did keep up with for a very long time and that was with MatPat and the Game, Film, Food and Style theory channels and on Monday this week he announced in a teary eye video that after the 9th of March 2024, he will be hosting his last Game Theory and most case the host of the other channels as well from Film, Style and Food too. Now this will not see the channels end or Matt Disappearing entirely as he will still be part of the Live channel until the end of the summer and he will still appear now and again and be the one writing the scripts for the theories so he will be still working on them but just not the one hosting the series after that date. Now this came as a surprise to me and I did feel some sense of emotion as I grew up with this channel since I was in my early teens and seeing him leave after all these years is quite sad but I understand his reasoning as well as all the other channels reducing their output or ending their Channel and while it will be sad I do want to thank MatPat for the Many years of showing that it was just a theory and wish him the best and all the others the best as well too.

But what are your thoughts on this and are you sad to see him go and what has been your favourite theory from this channel? Let me know what you think down below in the comments section.

And with all of that this brings us to the end of the newest episode of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoy my ramblings that have gotten a bit lengthy this week but I dope you enjoying hearing my rambling. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed today down below and as always, you all stay being wonderful people (cause you all are wonderful people) and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next blog :)

Signing off
