Weird Mind News Room episode 47: Jan 15th - 21st

*On Weekends we listen to Pink*

Hello again to all the very wonderful people for the all new 47th episode of Weird Mind News Room and we have quite the repertoire of content from this week with some new releases, some trailers and the fair selection of News Stories to check out so without wasting too much time much more lets get to the content that released this week.

The Burn Book of New Releases

Movies
Mean Girls (2024)

So the first of the releases for this week is getting a little bit more pink and some musical pizazz as we have the release of an all new version of the 2004 cult classic of Mean Girls. Now this will follow the same story as the original that will see a girl named Cady become part of the head group of the Plastics led by the all powerful Regina George and soon will become part of them and then find a way to tear them apart and take their power down. Now the reception on this film has been decently recieved with praise for its performances and new tone from the original with some seeing the original better overall and some a little mixed on the whole musical aesthetic, but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can check this new version in cinemas now.

Tv Shows
Hazbin Hotel Season 1
Speaking of something with a bit of a wait (and a musical tone to it as well) we have recieved after 5 years since the original pilot the long awaited first season to Youtuber Vizziepop's series of Hazbin Hotel. Now this will follow Charlie, The Princess of Hell, who has created a hotel to give the inhabitant of the underworld a second chance of redemption to get into heaven and with the help of her friends and other colourful characters (and the odd song and dance) will find a way to save as many before the underworld falls apart. Now the reception on this series has been very well recieved for its animation, its charm and humour and its songs and many see it as a long awaited release that paid off and if you want to check in yourself, you can catch the first full season now on Amazon Prime.

Also side note, this series has been in a talking point for the last week but not in the way that relates to the actual show and rather a hefty sum paid for something more questionable and the less said about this piece from last week the better.

LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland

Now for the Irish to take an attempt at a show that has seen its fair share of adaptations as we have some of Irelands best comedians in the new series of Last One Laughing. This series will see 10 comedians all placed in a house together where they are watched from the host of Graham Norton to see if they can make each other laugh and not laugh themselves cause if they do, then they are out until one comedian remains. Now reception on this series has not been getting the best of reviews with many saying that for a comedy show, it is quite dull, but if you want to check it out yourself and see if you can find some comedy in it then you can check out the full series on Amazon Prime.

Video Games
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

And now for the first known big release of the year in video games will be bringing us back to a series that has been lost to the sands of time for about a decade and that is with the return of the Prince of Persia with the Lost Crown. Now this new game will see you take on the role of Sargon, a young member of the warrior clan of the Immortals, and he must travel to the cursed city of Mount Qaf to rescue the kidnapped Prince Ghassan. Now reception on this game has been very well recieved for its visual look, story, gameplay and one of the better recieved games in the series since the Original sands of time and if you want to give a go yourself then you can try it now on PS4/5, XBOX One/X/S, Switch and PC.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered

And to wrap up all the new releases is with the all new remaster of the game that holds the record for the most Game of the year awards and is back again with an all new package deal with The Lst of Us Part 2 Remastered. Now this game will follow the same plot as the original where you will play as Ellie and go on a journey deep into the barren apocalyptic America after a girl named Abby after she caused a tragic outcome to someone close to you and your community and will do whatever it takes to get their revenge. Now this version like the original release has been very well praised and this new one also comes with some new features including an endless survivor mode known as No escape, some lost levels not in the original game as well as new features and skins and much more and an upgrade price that is not too bad either but if you want to check this out then you can play it now on PlayStation 5.

Get in Loser we're watching trailers

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Now on the first of the 2 trailers this week see us go on an all new globetrotting adventure that sees everyone's favourite Nazi Punching, Whip cracking Archaeologist star in an all new adventure with the new game of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Now this game will put you into the shoes of Indy and set in-between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade and teaming up with an investigative journalist, will discover a deep conspiracy and ancient treasure from all the great monuments around the world that will form a perfect circle around the globe and must use his wits and skills to outsmart the enemies of the Nazi's. Now this game was announced about 3 years ago now and the first look at this looks really well done and very stylisized and I am looking forward to giving this a try myself and you can too when the game launches on Xbox Series X/S and Pc sometime this year.

Spaceman
Now we have seen Adam Sandler play the comedy roles but we have also seen him recently take on more serious and mature roles and it seems this new one will follow that pattern with his all new film of Spaceman. In this film Sandler plays a astronaut sent on a mission to the edge of the solar system to collect some mysterious ancient dust and encounters a creature (in the form of a giant talking spider) from the beginning of time that will help him put his earthly problems back together. Now this film looks very interesting of a concept and has a dramatic role of the focus of loneliness and past regrets and given it is being directed by one of the creators of the mini series of Chernobyl, this could be really good and worth a watch and we can find out the outcome as this new film will be landing on Netflix on March 1st.

On Wednesday's we talk the news

Selena is becoming a superstar in Linda Ronstadt and Jacksons Nephew is the new king of pop
Now the first of the stories of this week will be the mix of 2 stories that both relate in terms of casting as well as the first story involving the actress mentioned in this weeks news stories. So as we know we have seen some form of adaptations based on famous musicians in the past from Freddie Mercury and Queen, Elton John and even soon with Bob Marley, it is only a matter of time before we would see a new batch of musicians or famous faces to get the film adaptation and we have 2 to share with you from this week.

First is from an announcement from the end of last week at the recent award show season, where it was announced that Selena Gomez will be taking on the role of famous musician of Linda Ronstadt and that the film will be directed by David O.Russell, known for his works of American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook and Amsterdam. Now personally it looks like this has been a dream role for Gomez and honestly I think they chose a great choice as she does look the part of how she did when Linda was in her 30s so it will be worth a check out when that film does arrive sometime soon.

And the second announcement comes a day or 2 as of writing this but it looks like we are getting a biopic based on the somewhat controversial King of Pop of Michael Jackson. Now it has been confirmed as well that the musician will be being played by his nephew Jaafar Jackson with the first look image of him practicing in full gear. Now whether this will cover his whole story from early career to his passing in 2009 is anyones guess but I am sure we will find out more about it when they start the filming process soon.

But let me know you thought are on both of these casting choices and who do you see would've been your choice on both of these musicians in a biopic.

Minecraft doesn't want no Freaky Designs and also casts a funny woman
Now for some little updates on one of the upcoming releases of next year that I have brought up about 2 weeks ago and that is with some new news on the anticipated release of the live Action Minecraft Movie. Now the first of 2 topics on this story relates to the concept about this film which is that it will be a live action movie and not one that is going to be animated (a-la Lego Movie or those FMV's on Youtube) and it does come with its concerns and this has not glossed over the director of Jared Hess is well aware of it himself. According to his focus as they head into filming earlier in the week it was a case that his promise was that he wants to respect the material and to make it look decently authentic and not to have a "Ugly Sonic" situation from the outcome (To know what that this you can check it out in my Adaptation History video) which I can understand that worry as that film may have caused the closure of the studio that does live action forms of animated characters (but I think it was more of their creation of the creatures from Cats that did that). Now it is too early to speculate on what they will look like but I am sure we will see how it turns out soon when some footage or set photos appear online.

As for the second smaller news story relating to it all, it was confirmed earlier in the week that we had an unannounced funny woman joining the cast and while their was potentials, it may have been a bad situation of putting an actress that is labelled as funny but to many not really (some most people know a few of) but it was announced on Wednesday that this funny woman was recently emmy winning actress of Jennifer Coolidge which many agreed was a good choice. Now its unknown right now (as with most of the other cast) who she will be playing but I am sure we will get the names and character traits for all of them soon and once we do I will update in a later video.

But what are your thoughts on this casting and opinion of the film and do you think they will make the outcome of the design for the whole concept decently or will it look into the uncanny valley method? Let me know what you think down below.

The Emmy's had a goblin in attendance

Now for the 2nd week in a row where I will be delving into all there is with the awards season (will have one more next week as there is some nominations on the way) and this is a little quick update on the recently broadcasted delayed Emmy's that finally took place early this week and the show gave some awards so lets delve into the topic and see what came from the award show.

So to give a rundown that the 3 big winners from this years show was with a tie big win with Succession and The Bear both winning 6 awards each and rounding out the top 3 was Netflix's Beef which walked away with 5 wins. Some of the other winners including as mentioned Jennifer Coolidge winning for the White Lotus in a supporting actress role, Last Week Tonight winning 2 Emmy's, Abbott Elementary winning 1 and even Elton John Snagged an Emmy completing a full EGOT achievement (which to those unaware is someone that won an Emmy, Grammy / Golden Globe, Oscar and a Tony award). Now 2 show that while getting massive nominations but both got sidelined was the first being the Last of Us which didn't win any in the main Emmy's (but did take home 8 at the Creative Art Emmy's) and the other that has caused a lot of complaints is Better Call Saul who over the course of its run was nominated for 53 nominations and won none of them making it a new record (and is a damn shame as it is a great show and Bob Odenkirk survived a heart attack and gave some of his best work afterwards).

Now before I wrap it all up there is one thing I want to talk about from this show and that is why was there a Goblin at the event. Yes the photo above is real and from this event and it turned out to be one of the contestants from season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race (a series that also won an Emmy this year). Now while I first I thought it was weird seeing that but then after a lot of thought, I think its not as weird as I would wear something weird like that to an event if I had the chance or how I would want to get to a level of Cosplay at some convention. But I guess to be fair it was not the most questionable of outfit choices from this years awards show but lets not get into that.

But what are your thoughts on this award show and what do you think should have won in different categories of the awards over what did win? Let me know your opinions and reasons in the comment section below.

Tom Cruise going back to the Danger Zone
And for our next story we are taking off to the skies once again as it looks like we are getting back in the pilots seat and travelling to the Danger Zone as it was announced earlier this week or late last week that Tom Cruise is once again gearing up to play aviator Pilot Maverick in a 3rd Top Gun Movie. Now it is logical that it was going to be another entry given that Maverick was one of the best reviewed films of 2022, Cruise's Highest grossing film of all time, an awards winner and nominee and I will say that while I was not that overly hyped for the sequel, it was so much better then I thought it would be and was really cool to see in IMAX. Now it also has been confirmed that some of the cast from the sequel including Miles Teller and Glen Powell will most likely make a return. Now at the moment it is in some early stages and most case will be a while before its release but I am sure it will be exciting and hopefully if its like Maverick and entertaining then thats all I want.

But what do you think of this and are you excited for a possible 3rd Top Gun film and what are your own thoughts on the first 2 movies in general, do you like them, hate them, indefferent? Let me know your thoughts down below.

Turning a choose your own style narrative Horror into a movie
Sticking with the movie news, we have the 2nd story that is relating to the news of an adaptation and this one will be delving into the basis of horror, as it was announced earlier this week that we are getting a film adaptation of the 2015 PS4 choice narrative survival horror of Until Dawn and that it will be directed by David F.Sandberg, known for his films of Shazam! 1 and 2, Annabelle Creation, Lights Out and for his unique horror short films on his Youtube Channel. Now for those uninitiated of the plot for Until Dawn the story follows a group of friends who gather together at their friend's lodge in the mountains in the winter for a weekend getaway, where after one prank goes a bit too far sees the sister's of Josh run out into the woods and never returning after experiencing a grisly fate. When the remaining friend's return to Josh's Cabin a year later, they try and enjoy and make it the best weekend as they can but will soon find themselves fighting for their lives until morning breaks as an ancient evil curses the mountains and watches their every move waiting to strike. Now the big question and concern with this being adapted is that the game is known as a choose your own adventure style horror game that uses the butterfly affect, where it is your actions and decisions that decide what character lives and what character dies by the end of the game when survivng from dangerous traps, strange people and mysterious creatures but I am sure that Sandberg will have something unique and cool with the concept and I think to best make it like the game is to have the cast come back which include some known actors like Hayden Pannitiere, Rami Malek and Peter Stormare but I am sure we will find out more about this project soon.

But what do you think of this? Are you excited to see a film adaptation of this game and what other horror based games do you want to see made into a movie or series? Let me know what you think would be good down below in the comments and lets discuss it.

Hot Hot Oh we got it..... soon possibly
And the last of the film news for this week is something you probably don't want to hear in January of all months but we are talking a little bit about Christmas. Now 20 years ago there was a film that was made based on a children's book set in the holidays that was made into a feature adaptation that starred Tom Hanks as a conductor and that film was The Polar Express. Now you may be wondering why I am bringing up this film and that is because there has been some rumblings that we might be getting a sequel to this film and it may be in the early stages. Earlier this week while promoting the new Apple TV series of Masters of the air (the sequel to Band of Brother and Pacific), the producer of Gary Goetzman, who has worked with Tom Hanks for over 20 years, made a mention in an interview with Comicbook.com that the concept of a 2nd film is being worked on which to some may be some excitement or many having nightmares of the 2004 visuals. Now it is one of my favourite Christmas films and I have no idea what the plot could be but once I hear any more news on the film I will update sometime soon.

But what are your thoughts of a Polar Express Sequel and would you be interested in seeing it? Let me know what you think down below.

It seems that everything is at it should be?
And now we come full circle as we have one last story that talks on the actress herself of Selena Gomez and its not anything bad but rather it is some news that may have a lot of people excited. Now to some, most would know her for her music, her cooking show or her performance in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building as Mabel, but to a larger majority she was known as a Disney Channel Star and from her show that made her a star of Wizards of Waverly Place, a series that saw her be part of a family of wizards and train to be the next all powerful wizard in the family while getting into hijinks with her siblings and against other magical creatures. Now it has been 12 years since the series ended and many a talks of a revival has been discussed but now those prayers are being answered as on Thursday evening, it was announced that a sequel series to Wizards of Waverly place was in the works over at Disney and will see Gomez and her co Star David Henrie return to appear in the show and also to executive produce. Now the series is going to focus on Justin who has given up magic to care for his wife and 2 sons, but when trouble abrews at Wiztech and sees a powerful young wizard named Billie appear at his door, Just will soon be back to teaching magic and may get some help along the way. Now its only been confirmed as of now of Gomez being in the pilot episode and is unclear if she will be a cameo character instead of a regular and its unknown if some of the other characters like Max, Jerry, Theresa, Harper or any other cast from the original will appear or tell of how certain relationships ended but I am sure we will hear more about this series overtime as it develops and once I hear anything I will update you in a later episode.

But what do you think are you excited for this planned sequel series to Wizards of Waverly Place and do you think it will do well or are you excited for it all all? Let me know what you think down below as always in the comments section.

And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the the 47th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed my extensive ramblings for another week. Let me know of all of your thoughts down below and as always, stay being wonderful people, cause you all are wonderful people, and have a great day everyday doing many great things and I will see yous all in the next Episode :)

Signing off
Sam H
