Weird Mind News Room Episode 50: Feb 5th - 11th

 *big music for big celebration*

Hello to each and everyone of you wonderful people to what is the 50th edition of my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room and I cannot believe that I have made 50 of them that either you enjoy (or else I am just talking to myself like normally) but I will be delving into all I can for the week of media news from New Releases, Trailers (most pre-superbowl) and some of the news of the week so let us get into the world of media for the 50th week of all things media.

New Release signature Move

Movies
The Iron Claw

So we start this week with the big film release of the week and this is a new biographical film with a bit of a dark and sad tale courtesy of A24 and this is coming in the form of The Iron Claw. This film will tell the story of the Von Erich family as we see their lives and tragedy unfold from their family dynamic as one of the biggest and famous families in Professional Wrestling and told from the perspective of the remaining family member of the Von Erichs. Now the film has garnered some very strong reception with praise to the performances (with great focus to leading man Zac Efron) and the emotional weight told from the story, with some feeling it is a little all over the place, but if you want to check out the film it is available to watch in cinemas now.

TV Shows
Halo Season 2

Now for the return of the everyone's favourite Space Marine Spartian as we have gotten the beginning of the 2nd season to the divisive adaptation of Halo. Now this season will see Master Chief continue the fight against the covenant and protect the homeworld of the Halo rings from falling apart. Now this season as of the moment with the first 2 episodes has gotten a much better reception then the first season with more faithfulness and better action with some concern still centered on the change of the canon with Chief removing his helmet and everything. But if you want to continue the fight or join and defend humanity then you can check out the first 2 episodes now with a new episode release every Thursday on Paramount+

TED the series

So you may remember around a decade ago, Family Guy and Orville creator Seth MacFarlane created a duology of films based on a teddy bear that came to life on a wish and as he got older became a foul mouth, drunk drug taking bear with his best friend Johnny, but now we are returning to that world and seeing where it all went wrong with a new series on Ted. Now this series is set in the mid 1990s as we see Ted and Johnny growing up and learning so much from doing drugs, pranks, school, sex, relationships and much more in all forms of wacky hijinks. Now the reception on this series has been very well praised for it humour and tone but for also having a bit of heart in the right moment. Now I have watched this full season and I will say I have to admit I was skeptical and then heard good things about and can agree it is very good and some jokes made me laugh so unexpectedly. Now the series has been out for a month in the states on Peacock, but you can now catch the full 8 episodes over here on Sky Max.

Tag Team Trailers

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2
Starting the trailers for this week is me thinking that just when I thought it was safe to return to the woods, one of the stars of my Horror most bore had to appear and show its more gruesomer face as we have recieved the trailer for the sequel to Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey. So the film seems to follow on from the first movie where Pooh and his friends of Piglet, Owl and the new introduction of Tigger are out for revenge on a rampage through the town of Ashdown to be out for revenge on Christopher Robin. Now if you read my Horror Most bore or watched the Video on it, you know this first film is a mess where we do not get much development on the characters to care for the deaths or pain so hopefully it will be improved with the sequel and if not it looks like I'll be doing a sequel this Halloween but we will find out soon as I am unsure of when this is out, I've seen some say it comes out on Valentines Day and the latest I have seen is the 26th of March but I am sure we will find out real soon.

A Quiet Place: Day One
(will attempt sign language to explain this in the video version if I can)
And now for the look at an all new trailer for a film where silence is key as we have received the first trailer for A Quiet Place Day One. Now this is a prequel but also a spin off to the 2 films established in the franchise and will follow 2 new characters played by Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn as we experience their first hand deal of surviving against this invasion of creatures with enhanced hearing in the massive city of New York where in the wilderness you may deal with 1 or 2 but we have an armada to deal with for this one. Now I really liked the 2 films and this one so far from the footage looks amazing and I am so hyped for it as well and we will find out all the buzz when the film releases on June 28 but for now shhh.

Knuckles
And to wrap up on the trailer for the week until we could talk on superbowl trailers (which will be more next week) we have recieved the all new first look trailer for the spin off to the Sonic movies with Knuckles. Now this series will see the Echidna Warrior feeling a bit lost on his new world of Earth after making a promise with Sonic and Tails and will soo go off on a quest with Officer Wade to find bad guys to stop and will soon find it when a craze man who worked with Eggman has obtained some of his power and it will be down to the echidna warrior to stop them from taking over the world. Now I was wondering when we would hear anything about this series and from this trailer it looks just as great and entertaining as the films and hopefully this will be a ton of fun as the full series will be dropping on Paramount+ on April 26th.

Finishing move of News

From forgetting Kevin to surviving an Apocalypse
So we start the news for the week with a brief bit of some casting news and this is with an all new addition to a series that was well recieved from last year and heading for a 2nd season release in 2025 and that is of course the adaptation of The Last of Us. Now we have already seen some of the casting news for the upcoming season with Katlyn Dever caster as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse and Isabela Merced as Dina and we are expecting to see more of the cast for the characters of the sequel to make an appearance soon but for now we have the announcement of a new character for an unknown role and this character is going to be played by actress of Catherine O'Hara. Now you may recognize her performance as Mrs McCallister for the first 2 Home Alone films, Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice and its upcoming sequel and is also now appearing in the new Matthew Vaughn film of Argylle. Now it is unknown of who she will be playing in this series but in most case I feel it may be one of the member of the WLF or else she may be playing the role of the Seraphite leader or prophet which was a character mentioned in the game but never seen but I am sure we will learn more about it as the series enters into production in the next few days and over the next few months but I am sure when we get any word I will update in a later piece.

But what are your thoughts on the casting choice and do you see O'Hara playing in the series in particular we have yet to meet yet? let me know your own thoughts down below in the comments

More boxes of the games for the Playing on the Station
Now onto the second of the stories for the week is covering the topic of video games and on the likes of the different companies eyeing for the full gaming dominance. Now if you have known for the longest time that there is always a rivalry between 3 different factions of PlayStation, Xbox and PC (Nintendo used to be the competitor with Sega but they would still be a tough competition when it comes to exclusivity and innovation in the gaming industry) and it always a case when it comes to a debate about how "this option is better" or "that console has no games" or "ours is the superior race" but you will get all of that and one of the biggest debates comes down to the exclusive games they would have. Now Xbox and PC will be a mix together as they are connected with Gamepass and would be more open to share about whereas Sony is more unlikely to share and then the PlayStation fanboys will get really pissy when one of their exclusives releases onto PC or another console when sharing is more of a positive thing and it seems to be the case that some rumours from Xbox may be the case of sharing with the competitor. According to some rumours it seems to be the case that we will be seeing some of the  biggest new releases on the Xbox being shared across to other consoles with the 2 biggest ones that have been discussed is Bethesda's newest ip Starfield and Machine Games upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Now many pundits are all saying this is a sign of console being dead and PlayStation is the superior console, but I would have to disagree as while it is a more popular console, the Xbox is still going strong with great new releases, a innovative and useful subscription service, great games from the studios they own and from some other big studios, like last years Game of the Year Winner studio Larian Studios they see it as a good thing and not as a thing of Xbox dying out from this (and besides Playstation have issues still of overheating and other issues and is slightly less powerful then the newest Xbox) and I think this exclusive sharing about will be a very good things and I for one see this as a great opportunity for many gamers to come together for one thing which is not to fight over hardware but rather to come together and enjoy new games as they release.

But what are your own thoughts on this rumour getting talked about and can you see Xbox exclusives on the likes of PlayStation and Nintendo and Vice versa? Let me know what you think of it all down below in the comments and lets discuss it there.

When an ex corporal bounty hunter of the galaxy gets help from someone with no plan
Ok this next story I am going to make it all done very quick as I will be delving into a bit of some legal drama news. Now if you are aware back when the series of the Mandalorian first started in 2019, around the mid-point of the series we were introduced to the character of Cara Dune played by former MMA fighter Gina Carano. Now she became a popular character (to some degree) and appeared in a few episodes over the course of the first 2 seasons before things went south. You see Carano ended up being let go from Disney and Lucasfilm in early 2021 due to her social media posts where she had been seen making light of conspiracy on vaccines, the US election was rigged, more in support of the police during BLM protests, possible mocking of Pronouns and then the topping of the pile was comparing being a conservative or republican to being a jew in the Holocaust and after being told multiple times from Disney, Lucasfilm and Jon Faverau himself, she kept posting them and got fired and now she is planning to sue them for unfair dismissal and to have her reinstated as the character in the series. Now the way she is doing this is from the really wrong way and that is with getting help from...... Elon Musk and Twitter as they have stated in the past of helping with legal woes for those unfairly let go from a company to fight them in court (a statement that seems to maybe have gone over his head when he unfairly fired around half of the worlds Twitter staff around a year and a half ago). Now they say that they have a lot of evidence to prove this is true but to be honest I don't see this really having much of an affect when going up against a massive company like Disney but even if she did win I do not know how they could bring her character back into the universe without causing plot issues and other concerns but I am sure that we will hear more of this overtime as it develops.

But what do you think of all of this, do you see her winning this case or is this going to end very quickly without much fanfare? let me know your thoughts of the whole ordeal down in the comments section below.

What Can I say Except...... Excuse me?

And the last of the stories that I will delve into for the moment is coming to us with news courtesy of Disney. Now we know at least every year that we would see something from this studio from Live action remakes, animated films and from a film or 2 from the likes of Fox, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm and we have gotten a bit of some announcements to come from this week that started with the small teaser announcement at the top of this story that for this years animated Disney offering we are getting a sequel to the 2016 animated film of Moana. Now this is actually what was initially a planned tv series for Disney+ but was morphed into an full length film that is now planned for this year. Now this will join the likes of the other releases from the studio this year of Pixar's Inside Out 2, Fox's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Marvel's Deadpool 3 and the live action prequel sequel to the Lion King, but it wasn't the only confirmed announcement as this week we saw the news of the investor call for the planned big releases of the next 2 years afterwards in all of their studio projects and some may surprise you then you expect.

So while that is 2024s big offerings we have the confirmation of some of the big releases for 2025 up next which include Pixar's new original of Elio that was planned for release initially in 2 weeks time, the 3rd Avatar film and possibly the Rey focused Star Wars film as well and the confirmation of 2 Marvel films confirmed for 2025 is Captain America Brave New World and Fantastic Four. and As for the Disney side, besides the release of the delayed Snow White Live action Movie, we also got confirmation that the planned animated Disney film for the Winter of next year is the sequel to Zootopia. Now 2 films that have disappeared or were not mentioned were from Marvel which was the upcoming team up of the Thunderbolts and the other was Blade, so it is uncelar whether they will be moved into 2026 or will still come out next year is unclear right now but I am sure we will get some word soon.

As for the following year we have the confirmation that for the side of Pixar we are getting the 5th entry in the Toy Story Franchise coming that year and as for Disney we will be seeing the 3rd film in the Frozen series for the late November release. It isn't the last of the big releases confirmed so far as it was also confirmed that the planned Star Wars film focused on Mando and Grogu are also announced for the release at the end of 2026 so meaning we will see the likes of the planned 4th season for that series releasing within the next year or so before this films release. Now it is unclear of what else will be announced for release from any of the studio sectors or if any will be delayed into the following year but I am sure once we hear anything else from the studio or other studios I will let you know in a future update.

But what do you think of this news and is there any of these films that you are looking forward to the most out of all of them announced or what else are you hoping to be announced from the studio? Let me know what your thoughts are on all of them down below and lets discuss what other ideas that could get announced

a biddy a biddy Warner head sucks
Now I am making this story quick as this has caused such annoyance once again but we are finishing up the week with a quick update. Now I talked about back in November that a film known as Coyote vs ACME was being shelved after being fully complete and been praised by those who have seen early screenings of it and was planned as once again another tax write off similar to Batgirl and Scoob Holiday Haunt (as well as most animated choices on their streamers). This caused backlash from many pundits and even a planned investigation from a Texas Lawmaker and the FTC that it got the plan of being shopped around to a few places for a possible release on their streaming service or even a theatrical release. Well we got an update and it seems that warner is unhappy about the amounts being offered as they are looking for a price more then $75 million when the likes of Amazon and Netflix offered around $30-$50 million and may shelve and delete the film in the outcome. Now I find it so screwey that they will do this to a film once again as all they care about was money and not on the likes of creativity where it should be a focus just irks me the wrong way but I do hope that their is a chance that this film gets a release (or even the likes of someone does what happened with an upcoming Spongebob movie and leak the full thing online on social media for people to see as well as those other 2 shelved films too)

But what are your thoughts on this and do you see this continue to happen and will this film ever get released? Let me know what you think down below.

Special mentions of a graduating group and a new interesting project

Now before I wrap up for this weeks episode, I decided it has been a while and may be time for the likes of a special segment to appear again in one of these news stories and this week is a doozy as I have 2 special shoutouts I want to do, one that I was involved with and another I will delve into more and that many of you could be apart of possibly.

So I will start with the first piece and this was with the basis that something I may have mentioned now and again over the last few weeks or months was that I was working for the likes of a special program with a place called Learning Waves where for the duration of around 5 months, myself and a group of 12 other fantastic people learned the course of becoming a radio presenter and through it we experienced some new skills, learning the programs for audio and radio and even work for the few studios for the duration of 2 weeks to complete the program and it was earlier this week on a very wet and rainy Thursday Morning to evening we gathered together to graduate from the course and get some special speakers in from the industry and then ended with us presenting our presentations for the event and getting some diplomas, little gifts and some nice photos of the group and even some professional headshots. Now even if some of them couldn't make it for completely understandable means, it was truly a great experience to have spent these last 5 months or so working alongside you from the weekly zoom classes to the in person days in the beginning and a long trip down the country to a radio station and just the absolute chats and chaos of the Whatsapp, it is a treasured experience to have shared it with all of you and with it I want to congratulate all of those involved which include:

Aoíbhinn Redmond, Aoife Ward, Calum Scuffs, CJ Weerasinghe, Eoghan Allen, Jack Ruane McDonald, Judith Mullally, Kathryn Mc Kiernan, Niamh O'Connor, Richard Guiheen and Tara Carroll

I want to congratulate each and everyone of you and will hopefully see all of us in the industry working on the radio soon and even the case of having a proper catch up very soon. And for those that may want to give a look into this course yourself, they run from the middle of September every year and the applications would usually open around the beginning of summer so if you are interested I would say to check it out as it is quite a well meaning and recommended experience

Now for the other special mention, we have the announcement of a new project that many creatives up and coming could get their work put out there. Now a friend of mind from College (I believe my Friend Brian) has started a new Literary Magazine known as Abyss and this is a magazine for the creative of Ireland to get their creations across and I for one think it is a great idea for many to get their music, poems, writings, videos and creations seen by hundreds or thousands of people and get their work spread across the lands and I know for certain that I will be finding the best piece of content to share (as well as share this piece to them on the shout out to my slow but growing audience) and if you have something you want to submit then you can do so by going to this Social Page on Instagram or even Facebook and it could be a helpful success to your career.

And with all that, this bring us to the end of the 50th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you have enjoyed all I have to talk about on this weeks episode and I am sure there will be plenty more over the continuing series. Let me know your thoughts and opinions on all that was discussed this week from the new releases, Trailers and News stories and tell me your thoughts on them as I would love to hear them below. As always I hope you all stay being wonderful people (cause you all are wonderful people) and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next piece :)

Take Care, Keep being you, Signing off
Sam H
