Weird Mind News Room Episode 74: July 22nd-28th
*music for the buddy team up we all've been waiting for*
Hello to all of you beautiful people to the newest edition of Weird Mind News Room where this week we have some very small amount of new releases, a lot of growing amount of trailers and a fair few news stories for the week so, lets not waste time and let's get f**king going.
New releases to mess a multiverse with
Movies
Deadpool & Wolverine
We gotta of course talk about the biggest release of the week and the one that many people have been waiting for and after a long anticipated wait that I am wasting too much time on building up to, the merc with a mouth is finally back and this time he is not alone on this new adventure as a long awaited duo team up is about to happen as we have the new MCU film of Deadpool & Wolverine. This new entry see Deadpool be taken by the TVA and brought into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe after the end of the Fox universe and will be seeing him looking to save his home timeline from destruction with the aid of a certain mutant that they may not like each other and butt heads a lot but they will have to team up with one another to do so and cause a mess with the multiverse in there as well probably. Reception for this new film has been very well praised with great reception to the main leads, the action, humour and the endless cameos with some critiques to some plot elements and the villain being a little weak but you will get that when you want a big focus to this anticipated crossover. I have seen it myself and I really enjoyed it and do not worry I am not going to spoil it (cause I am not a dick) and if you want to check it out yourself then you catch this new film out now in cinemas so LFG.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
as on the one other new release for this week is a film that had been very quiet about a new release in the UK since its announcement when the film came out in the US since April and then all of a sudden just shadow dropped onto streaming late this week but we have the new Guy Ritchie war film of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. This film will be telling a form of the true story about the secret small military group of rogues and mavericks that is sent on a daring plan to destroy the fleet of the Furher's German U-boats and have them use their unconventional techniques to change the course of the war. Reception on the film has been decently recieved with praise for the ensemble cast and for the action with some issues on the mixed appeal and some story beats feeling a little messy but if you want a war film that has the tone of a wolfenstein game then you can watch this film now on Amazon Prime.
Trailers that will knock down a fourth Wall
Joker Folie a Deux
So this week in terms of trailers is going to be a bit messy as we have comic con this week that a fair few may be a delay in an announcement but we will start off with the film that dropped the trailer earlier this week that will be putting a smile on our face and a song to sing in our hearts as the icon of chaos is back with a new trailer for Joker Folie a deux. This film will follow on 2 after the events of the original and will see Arthur Fleck meet the love of his life of Harley Quinn while incarcerated at Gotham State Hospital while on trial for the talk show murder. Once they have been let out will soon lead them on a doomed romantic misadventure. So it is a case that I was a little skeptical about this film as I felt the original should've been a one off (I still feel it a little) but I will say that this film does look really, really good and probably worth a watch to see how they will incorporate a musical aesthetic into this but I am sure we will find out more when the film releases on October 4th.
Borderlands
The next trailer is with the release of a film coming out in just about 2 weeks time ( I am counting it for it dropped just before the threshold for my trailer rule) that has been very quiet in terms of promotion and marketing but it looks like the team of misfits are ready to hunt for some treasure as we have recieved a new final trailer for the upcoming Adaptation of Borderlands. This will see the character of Lilith returning back to her home planet of Pandora where she will find herself teamed up with a group of unlikely heroes and together will battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find a missing girl who holds the key to some unimaginable power. So the likes of the film seem a little all over the place that the outcome seems a little concerning and may be a bit of a messy outcome that may crash and burn hard when things were picking up but I am sure we will learn about it all when the film releases in 2 weeks time on August 8th.
Transformers One
It is time to learn of the origins of the Robots in disguise as we have recieved the first of the comic con trailers with the newest look at the upcoming animated origin film of Transformers One. This film will tell the origins of Orion Pax and D-16 as well as Bumblebee and Elita of how they would gain their powers and what would lead to the divide of one brothers in arms of the Orion and D-16 to become sworn enemies of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Now its a case with this that I do think this does look really good, I have heard a lot of really strong reception very recently at fan screenings and at Annecey back in June, the only concern is with the likes of the faces still weirding me out a bit of looking too real when they are supposed to be robots yet they have human faces, but in all sense by the time the film comes out I am sure I will get used to it but we will see how it all turns out when it releases into cinemas on October 11th.
A complete unknown
Now on the one new biographical film for this week and one that I was expecting not to be making an appearance until sometime next year but surprising with a different release as we have recieved a trailer for the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic of A complete Unknown. This film will be set in the mid 1960s and will follow the rising star of Bob Dylan (played by Timothee Chalamet) as it chronicles the controversy in the folk music revival of the change to the more electrically amplified instrumentation and the following way he changed the music scene to become an iconic name of music. So in all sense of things I do not know much on the musician himself but what I have seen from image comparisons and other aspects, it does look like Chalamet fits the part and I am sure it will be worth to see how this turns out when the film releases into cinemas in January 2025 (December this year in the US).
Lord of the Rings the rings of power
Next on the trailer from the con, we are finding ourselves returning back to the lands of middle earth and see the fear and rise of eons before the tales of the Hobbits on their quest as wen have recieved a new trailer for the upcoming second season to Lord of the Rings: the Rings of power. This season will be giving a massive focus to the powerful villain of the original novel of Sauron of his rise to ultimate power and control and how he will use that will to the creation and forging of more rings of power. So truth be told I have not watched all of the first season to the show, maybe I was caught up with other important matters and was also watching the first season to house of the dragon in the process but I haven't heard much of a complaint or issue since its release in a while and may give it a look and hopefully before I check this series out when it releases on Prime video in about a months time on August 29th.
Creature commandos
The next entry of con trailers is taking us into the world of the DC studios and focusing on the first of the new planned series or shows in the process of the wider DCU as we have recieved a first trailer for the upcoming animated series of Creature Commandos. This series will be a form of an animated version of Suicide Squad and follow on from the 2021 film and Peacemaker and will see Amanda Waller assign Rick Flagg Sr to become the leader of a new task force black ops team consisting of monsters and strange creatures to go on missions where death may be a possibility. I was wondering on the likes of when they would show any form of footage for this series and if this was going to be set much earlier then the other projects shown but so far from the brief teaser, it does not look too bad and I will give this a look overtime when the series releases just in time for the holidays this December.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza
Next up on trailers is with a new cryptic form look at the 2nd of the video game adaptations getting a trailer for their new series as we have recieved a first look at the upcoming adaptation of Like a Dragon: Yakuza. The story of this series will take place in the fictional Kamurocho district of Japan and follow the life of Kiryu over the course of 10 years from 1995 to 2005 as a Yakuza member while also experiencing the dynamic that he had with his childhood friend of Nishiki. It is to say that this series is such a weird one as it can take itself so seriously in marketing and screenshots and then out of nowhere is full of the most weirdest and goofiest outcomes to happen all of a sudden and I wonder how much of that appeal will be making a presence in this series but I guess we will find out if it will go more serious, more silly or a bit of both (and also question is it live action or animated) when the series drops on Prime video on October 24th.
The Penguin
coming in late and possibly the final trailer for this week we can get is with the return to a dark and gritty of crime, justice and vengeance but from the focus of the seedy underbelly as we have recieved a new trailer out of comic con for the upcoming limited series of The Penguin. This new series will take place shortly after the events of The Batman and follow Oswald Copplepot as he takes the opportunity of taking control of the city and the underworld of Gotham from the corrupt power of the Falcone mob family and build him up to be the powerful crime boss that he is well known for in the series. So I think in all forms that Colin Farrell really did an excellent job as this character in the original film and it fits to follow the rise of this mobster taking control of the city and with each trailer it really shows the hype for this series and hope with Matt Reeves building this series up more and more and I am looking forward to checking this out with the new release date on Sky Atlantic and HBO Max on September 19th.
Any other comic con release put here
News for the nerdgasms
Comic con weekend content
So the big focus of this weeks news stories as well as with the sector of trailers is with the yearly tradition of being the biggest nerd community to come from around the world for the big event of big announcements and that is of course with San Diego Comic Con. There is a lot of announcements that can come from the biggest sectors from streamers, actors, directors and many more new concepts overtime from every sector of the Media zeitgeist and it will be a case that I will be delving into the areas of any new announcements from this weekend (which may be a little delayed for this week alone cause certain sectors will be announced on different days of the weekend) but lets delve into the concepts that were unveiled so far
Blumhouse: So most of the case that we can get from the likes of the Blumhouse is one small announcement that was shown off and unveiled and that was an update to the new reboot of a film based on Spawn. This film has been in the area of silence for a bit of time with uncertain if the film was still happening but there was finally an update with the film as a form of a script for the film was unveiled with a placeholder title of King Spawn as well as the writers for the film of Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman & Scott Silver all working on the script for this film and will be seeing Jamie Foxx starring as the title character. Now the title is based on a popular series of the character however it has been mentioned that it is not fully focusing on the plot for the film. Things are not fully celar right now but I am sure they will delve more into the film as it enters into filming sometime soon.
DC: On the basis of DC side of things, there is not that massive amount of content to discuss that we have already shown in trailers with the likes of both Creature Commandos and The Penguin both getting trailers (and an event for the Penguin causing a fire which is not how the expanding universe of the Batman Epic Crime Saga probably wanted things to go). The most that we can give from the DC universe was that the likes of anything being shown of the upcoming Superman was not going to happen as it is too soon and then on the other aspect is that Gunn unveiled the official new look at the logo for the DCU with DC Studios which is giving a look of a classic logo for the comics which seems to feel more genuine with a mix of the new. There may be some other new announcements from the studio coming along in the next day or so but we will have to see if any more news come from the studio.
Amazon Adult animation: So it was not the only piece of news to come for a project from Amazon Prime as it was also giving a bit of an update to their side of Adult Animation that was coming from their channels as there was a few renewals announced at the event. It was confirmed that while also knowing that season 2 of Hazbin Hotel was well into development, they also confirmed at the event that we have a confirmed 3rd and 4th season of the show in the works which is very exciting to look forward to (and will give me 3 more reviews to delve into for later down the line after the season 1 review) and I am looking forward to a lot. On the side of superheroes they also confirmed that Invincible will be getting a 4th season after the upcoming 3rd season which also unveiled a new look at his new blue suit for the upcoming 3rd season that will most likely drop sometime next year. The last of the confirmed announcements of being renewed was a surprise one but it looks like their will be a 2nd season for the recently released Sausage Party Foodtopia. This one seems like an odd renewal given the more mixed response to the series but I guess cause Seth Rogen has been making them profit for working on the Boys and Invincible they will allow and I haven't watched the full season yet and will give my full thoughts soon but it seems like Prime video will at least care for their work in the process
Lego: So I am unsure if I made it aware in the past but I love LEGO (and would not turn a blind eye or deny if I got a sponsor from them so if it is possible, hit me up I would love to build some sets for you on video or stream) and we got some new sets unveiled at the event. New new range that I do not know how to feel or was surprise of its announcement was with the announcement of a range of sets based on Fortnite that will be the low prices of some burger and Banana character and the most priciest being the Battle Bus and all of these will be dropping in October. They had some new sets on display for the LEGO City space range, Minecraft, Star Wars and others we know will be continuing their expansion of sets. One new set that was unveiled with all the other newly announced LEGO Mario range was the new adults welcome set of Mario and Yoshi design from Mario World with moving parts that make them look like they are running which is cool and is dropping in a few short weeks. They also had the unveiling of the new set based on Jaws and some of the new Animal Crossing sets releasing in a few days as well. The last of the 2 sets that were announced came in the form of a new edition to those head build sets with the newest edition being the first for Sonic but will be focused on Shadow the Hedgehog (odd start option but I get it) and the other was the announcement of a lovely looking 300+ priced set of a botanical garden and a lot of them I have seen of photos or in videos of look cool and I want a lot of them so please LEGO lets work something out and I also need to configure some space for said sets too.
Marvel: So we are going to round out the announcement with the one everyone wants to hear from and that is with the Marvel panel. They had 2 panels this year with the first happening on Thursday or Friday that was focused on a celebration of the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine that was screened for everyone in attendance (and would advise if you have not seen it yet to avoid their socials as there is spoilers abound) but we are talking on the main event on Saturday where they started the event with a choir rendition of Prayer from Madonna before Feige took to the stage and talked on a few of the known upcoming releases. They started with the new Captain America Brave new world film with the cast all coming out to talk on the film and also to confirm the announcement that Giancarlo Esposito will be playing the character of Sidewinder who is the king of the Serpent Society which confirms they are still a part of this film after initially been planned as the 3rd Captain America film. They also showed some footage from the film that sees the transformation into the New Red hulk and some bit of a fight at the white house and after the clip they brought out the legend himself of Harrison Ford taking over the role of Thunderbolt Ross and giving his excitement for the film.
Next on the film discussion was with the upcoming film on the Thunderbolts* (what the asterics means, we'll have to watch the movie) and saw the cast come out to talk on the film (including David Harbour, strolling in his Red Guardian Best) and then they showed a little bit of footage for the film that was exclusive to the event to wrap up that section.
Next we finally got to see the introduction of Marvel's First family with the introduction of the cast of the Fantastic four with the unveiling of a new subtitle of the film with it now called Fantastic 4 First steps. The film did not have much to show as it was only starting to film as of writing this on this upcoming Tuesday in the UK (so most case some set photos are going to hit the web real soon) but they showed a small bit of some animatics of a pre-shoot before we got the cast together and the director to appear on stage and talk on their excitement as well as confirm the setting of a alternate futuristic 1960s (akin to say the Jetsons) and the confirmation on the Fantasticar also making an appearance. All of it sounds really cool and will have them lead into the new Avengers films as well. Speaking of.
The last of the films that they were giving a focus on was the big ones and that is with the new Avengers films. You may be thinking that they skipped a film and you would be right as they didn't touch on Blade at all given that the film is having a bit of development issues with finding a director and other aspects that I believe most news to come from the panel was that it was being delayed to an unknown date, but we will learn if that is true probably at D23 in 2 weeks time. However we got the announcement of 3 big things I can talk on that has the internet abuzz and a little uncertain. First off we have the confirmation that Russo Brothers are now confirmed to be directing the 2 Avengers films that have not shifted release dates of May 2026 and 2027. The 2nd is that we have a new name for the 5th film as it was initially titled The Kang Dynasty but due to the whole legal woes of the Kang actor it had to be changed and will now go by the name of Avengers Doomsday which is confirming that Doctor Doom is in control now. But the last one is the big discussion as you are probably wondering who is playing Doom well it would be someone you didn't expect as it was confirmed that Doom will be played by Robert Downey JR or the return of Tony Stark. This one has been a bit uncertain to some people online as they are unsure if they feel it is right but it is established in some comic stories of the past that they have switched minds and bodies before in a what of comic so I feel it will work or else this is one version of Doom and there is a more powerful version of them played by someone else in the multiverse or some other powerful being in control of Doom but I am sure we will learn close to the release of the film. But that is all we have on Marvels panel and comic con in general and while I was expecting a little bit more from the Marvel in terms of other film announcements and some on shows I am sure they are keeping that for D23 and the whole panel was not a total disaster.
But after all of these discussions, I would like to know your thoughts on all that was unveiled or announced at Comic Con and what aspects are you the most excited for to see release in particular. Let me know your thoughts on it all down below in the comments and we can discuss them there
Hollywood why did you greenlight this
On the 2nd story that popped up pre-comic con that I do want to give its own separate story is probably the announcement of one of the worst idea concepts to be greenlit from some big studios and that is with the area of some form of humour that is only funny for a new generation. When I first saw this announced I really questioned "what executive or studio saw this director come along and announce this and think that this will be a good idea and will make massive amounts of money" and not question its stupidity, cause it really feels like they are out of ideas. I bet you are wondering what it is but on Tuesday it was announced that Michael Bay is currently working on a film and tv series based on the concept meme of Skibidi Toilet. I am not making this up as a joke, this is real and I hate it. The basis what I have read online amongst all the other people saying this is a terrible idea to be made into a film or show is that it will be a war against the human, cyborgs and the heads poking from the toilets in a battle for domination and in all sense I could not care, I am just surprised they are essentially appealing to the Ipad kids to get them into the cinemas and get the streamers and also buy the soon to be non knock off merch (which actually exists) and has shown that they are dipping into the worst place for entertainment and that is the content farms (then again 2 late night shows of Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert also made a parody of this concept and they were cringe). I know the case that you could pull a lot more appealing aspects from YouTube to make into a better film or series with a big budget, but this is one that really did not need to be extended to a full length film or series.
But I would like to know your own opinions to those that have watched me, do you see this as actually working out or has this reached a point of Hollywood running out of ideas and will start pulling more from these really shady content farms? Let me know your thoughts and opinions about it all down in the comments.
Gamers rise up, it is time to strike
The last of the non Comic Con news is with a bit of some breaking news and it all comes to the topic that was a massive continuing story from last year and that was with the Sag-aftra strikes. For those that were unaware or new to the blog, I covered the story from the beginning of the 2 strikes with the writers starting at the very beginning of May 2nd last year and then about 2.5 Months later around the time of Oppenheimer and Barbie was when the actors unionized and went on strike themselves and both of them lasted for a few months each with the Writers ending on September 27th and then Actors continuing on till the 9th of November where the process of their strikes were to do with the better needs of pay for extensive areas of working for network tv, big screen and streaming and also the case of going against of being taken over by AI and all seems to have found a good deal in the process but it does not seem like every sector of the Sag Guilds have been agreed with proper outcomes as it looks like one more sector will be taking up the picket lines. It was announced that as of midnight on July 26th, it was announced that the video game actors guild has announced that they have gone on strike after a year and a half of failed negotiations over the mix of fair compensation and the fear of being overtaken by AI for future use. What will see from this will have a fair amount of game companies and actors in North America will be seeing a bit hit to the industry with companies such as Activision, EA, Take 2, Insomniac and so many more parties being affected with many games in the process will see some possible delays for their games (with the biggest concern for most who have seen it being with GTA6 but I think that may have been not affected and will still be aiming for the Fall 2025 release). Now I do hope that we will see this strike be resolved and sorted out much quicker and that they get a fair wage and better demands cause they are the biggest industry in the world so it will be interesting to see this all play out and if any updates come along from it then I will update in a later piece.
But what do you think of all of this announcement of a Video game actors strike, do you see this making a lot of big games be delayed and do you see other areas of media hitting the picket lines in the future. Let me know your thoughts and opinions down below in the comments.
and with all of that that brings us to the end of the 74th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you have enjoyed all I have to talk about from this week in terms of entertainment news and I would love to hear your thoughts on everything that was discussed this week on your opinions down below on the topics and new releases. As always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day every day and I will see you all in the next piece :)
Take care, keep being you, signing off
