Weird Mind News Room Episode 93: Dec 2nd - 8th
*music for a mighty space crew
Hello to all of you wonderful people that have tuned in or taking a rest by the latest edition of my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where this week we are talking on the usual round up of some of the Newest releases from the week, what offerings of trailers have been given and the likes of the news stories we have gotten as we round down the year coming to a close but lets not dwell on that aspect right now and lets get to talking on all things media from this week.
New release crew
Tv Shows
Star Wars Skeleton Crew
Starting off on the big release project of the week is taking us to a galaxy far far away for one that has a bit more of a different aesthetic to other series and films in this regard where they were about destiny and war, this one is more of an adventure with that slice of life coming of age tale as we have recieved the newest series of Star Wars Skeleton Crew. The series will be set after the events of Episode 6 and follow a group of four younglings who after a discovery of a ship on their home planet end up getting themselves lost in the galaxy and with the help of a mysterious Force User, they will help them on a grand adventure to get back home and learn to find themselves along the way. Reception to the series so far has been very well praised with the focus on the cast, concept and feeling something new and different from the other Star Wars shows and films is welcomed, even if some complain that it feels like something we may have seen before with other projects already, but if you are up for a new space adventure you can check out the first 2 episodes now on Disney+ with a new episode every Tuesday.
Film/ Doc
Grand Theft Hamlet
So this next one is a weird one so just bare with me, but in the realm of the past few years when everyone was stuck at home from the pandemic lockdowns, we saw the rise of what would become the pandemic cinema of films and series that were created remotely with a mix of success and failure and mixed opinion and this new film / Documentary is an example of one of them in the way it is told is odd as we are mixing the realm of classic Shakespeare with a game about stealing cars and other crimes with this new film of Grand Theft Hamlet. So if you can tell from the title, the film is essentially 2 UK based actors who decided to try and put on a full recreation of the Shakespeare story of Hamlet in the world of GTA Online and in the base that it could be a complete disaster may occour but will also see how big it is to not give it the best effort you can. Now surprisingly, this films reception is actually very well recieved with praise to the method and attempt of seeing it all come together, even with the signs of choppy headsets, cluttered screens and even the likes of being taken out or interrupted by other players. Now it seems like something you would expect to see from the likes of big YouTube group GTA funny moments videos from about a decade ago but it may be something that could be interesting to see and if you want to see it for yourself then you can catch this film out now in cinemas (well limited screens from what I can see).
Video Games
Marvel Rivals
Now it is time to fight it out and get ready to build a team to prove who is the ultimate champion as its time to assemble as we have recieved the new Multiplayer Battle game of Marvel Rivals. This game will see you assemble a group of Heroes from the expansive Marvel comics line and go against other teams online in a battle of stakes across ever changing battlefields and more to prove who is the ultimate hero and who will inevitably fall in defeat. Reception to this game so far has modest if a little mixed in reception that while praise is given to the character options, presentation and gameplay as well as being free-to-play, the game has been hit with a little bit of balancing issues on the roster and the case it is compared to the game that came before it with Overwatch as the main comparison, but if you want to give it a go for yourself then you can play this new title now on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete
This last new release for the week is one that has a bit of a mixed opinion as to whether this counts or not as this game has released before but it is a case that the original form has shut down and many thought that was it but shortly afterwards it was for a particularly new and possibly nefarious reason as everyone's favourite cozy town simulator is back on the go on you little device in your pocket as we have the return of the new form of Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete. This title will be taken the elemtns of the original title that saw you becomes the head focus of creating a massive societal community of a camping society of fellow villagers and help make sure the place is running to be the best it can be. So the likes of which is that I can't seem to find any reviews besides the original which were decently recieved at best but I feel there will be a bit more of a negative opinion on this one of making a beloved free to play version now be locked behind a 10 euro paywall but could include a lot more to bring much more mass appeal and if you are willing to fork over the amount then you can play it now on all IOS and Android phones.
So much more space for Trailers
Snow White (Live action Disney)
So on the basis of trailers for this week is surprisingly really quiet this week as throughout the whole thing, we have recieved just one trailer and that is with a film which this trailer actually leaked online about 2 weeks ago due to the screening of it in front of Wicked, but it is time we head to the magical world of Disney Money wanting as we have the adaptation of the film that started it all as the animated legacy the studio had as we have recieved a new trailer for the upcoming Live Action remake of Snow White. Now the plot for those uninitiated, the plot will follow the titular princess (Rachel Zegler) who is labelled as the "fairest of them all" which has angered the evil queen (Gal Gadot) and want her killed to be the real fairest of them all. In a desperate attempt to survive, she runs off into hiding where she comes across a small cottage where 7 dwarfs live and they take care of her and keep her safe from the evil queen and in the basis of this new one will rise up against her to fight back against the oppression and maybe even find true love as well along the way. So truth be told, I am not sure if the film is focused on the similar story of the original or if its a mix of the original and another message with a strong powerful message for women but it is hard to tell at this point but in all sense I think that it may be watchable. I was talking about this trailer with the special person to me and we both agree on one thing and that is the dress and hair of Snow White looks a little cheap or unappealing compared to the original or fan made attire but I am not sure, maybe it'll look better in the film itself. As well on the drama and opinions on the Dwarfs, the visual aesthetic looks fine but also unsettling as well and felt maybe they should've hired actors that would fit the bill of them more instead of CG, but in all honesty for the time being I will give this a chance and maybe my and the special person can go and see it and make out own thoughts on it but I guess we will see by then as the film releases into cinemas from March 21st.
A discovery of News
As if by magic, this story of updates and rumours appear
So it is another week of very quiet news stories and looking for some topics has been a bit difficult but in terms of this one we have the usual focus of the casting news and in the basis of this, it does not have a story relating to the new Nolan film for once, which is a surprise. Instead all of these news stories for this one section is to do with a project that I did talk on a couple of weeks ago and that is with the mixed divide over the upcoming tv series adaptation of Harry Potter. Now on the basis of these stories it is all just on the likes of rumours for the time being and the likes I am not delving too deep on my thoughts of this reboot in general as I have already done so previously but now I will give a focus on the rumoured casting for the moment (that has struck an opinionated discourse online).
As on the 2nd casting it was rumoured that the British actor of Paapa Essiedu who you may known from the likes of the Lazarus Project, The Outrun and Gangs of London, is reportedly being eyed for the role of Professor Snape, who was initially played by the late Alan Rickman and this one has seen a bit of the most heavy discussion online of wondering why the sudden change of casting someone of colour to play this character, when it is also the case this character is working for the equivalent of the wizard version of a certain group from the 1940s and the likes of the weird choices that feel a weird decision for the characters. Like in all sense I can also see him play some other characters in this series much more but I can also give them the chance to do so as well that they could be really great but still some odd selection for casting (and I think people were hoping for more of Adam Driver playing this role).
There is one other one that just came in while writing this and this is with the likes that the rumour of another casting and this is with Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is reportedly being eyed the role of Hagrid. So just to give a quick idea, this one might not be too bad, will be heavily compared to the late Robbie Coltrane but he looks like he could be a decent choice but again will have to see how this comes about. Its just a case where I still bring the issue that the original films are still so recent even if a few are over 20 years old that it just feels like we don't need this but I guess this is what the people are Warner will do of milking some of these IPS dry as much as they can.
But what do you think of these choices and who would you cast for this series as the professors and villains and all or are you even excited for a tv reboot or feel its unnecessary? Let me know your thoughts below.
medical term to revive this series
So this last story I am keeping brief as its a case we do not know too much on this one for the moment and the concept seems like it can either work or be a complete disaster. Now its a common trope of a series or shows in general that the most likely of locations you will find a show based on is with the emergency services or connected to it with the likes of Police and Fire Fighters, but I think the one we see a whole lot more of is with the element of ones taking place in the emergency rooms from shows like ER, House m.d, Grey's Anatomy, Chicago med and a fair few more and the story in particular focuses on one that was more of a comedy based series from the 2000s that had its appeal back in the day that did falter with its final season and that was with the show of scrubs that may would know for its leading star of Zach Braff and it had been a wonder if we would see the likes of a revival or continuation of the series in some form in the future and from the discussion this week it may be just that as on Thursday, it was announced that original series creator of Bill Lawrence is making a revival of his original series but may not be a full showrunner but an executive producer on the show. It is also unclear as of right now if any of the original cast from the series, whether the original cast from the first 8 seasons or the new fresh faces from the often criticized final season but it seems they mentioned that they would be up for a revival if the original creator was on board. So it is a case I think that sure it could be interesting to see how the medical team of Sacred Heart Hospital has been up to for the last decade but it also becomes a case of if it would appeal to the public with the over saturation of shows based in medical fields and hospitals and the appeal of a good story and comedy as a lot of revivals tend to be a little hit or miss and don't often last long like the recent How I met your Father or that 90s show both being cancelled after 1-2 seasons, but who is to say that this could actually turn out a lot more successful and maybe could have a sense of finding the right audience for the sense of nostalgia and also newcomers that want a little less serious in their medical series, but I guess only time will tell.
But what do you think of this, would you be interested in a revival of the Scrubs series and do you see the original cast all coming back as well? Let me know what you think below in the comments
And with all of that this ends another quiet week of content with Episode 93 of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoyed what was presented all the same anyways.
