Weird Mind News Room Episode 110: March 31st - April 6th
*music for a creative overworld*
Hello again to each and every single one of you in the vast lands of the Information superhighway to the 110th edition of my long running series of Weird Mind News Room where of course like every single week we delve into the discussion of the New Releases, a selection of Trailers and of course a focus of some stories that will be quite a variety of discussion. So let us not waste too much time on this introduction and lets get to talking on all things media for another week (and hopefully will be improved in emotions too)
Mining for New Releases
Movies
A Minecraft Movie
The first of the new releases and probably the big release of the week is taking you to a strange new world, a place full of wonder, strange looking creatures and everything is seen in a square shaped form where an all new adventure is about to take shape and it is the case that the only limit to this world is your own imagination as after some long development and time, we have finally seen the release of the all new film of A Minecraft Movie. The film follows four misfits of Garett "Garbage Man" Garrison, Henry, Natalie and Dawn, 4 different people struggling with ordinary problems, all get suddenly sucked through a mysterious portal to The Overworld: a bizarre cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. In order to get back home they will have to master this world (and save it from evil) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter named Steve. Reception to this new film has been a bit of a mixed response that while praise has been given to its characters, performances and even for its humour and visuals, some have seen it as being a little too nonsensical and all over the place but it will be something that will have its fans and appeal to many and if you want to check the film out for yourself then you can see it now in cinemas.
Death of a Unicorn
We go from the big studio companies to a studio who's output always has the element of feeling like a big budget company with some creative and original ideas of all genres, with this next one still having a focus of some imaginative prowess but in this case some elements of the consequences of ones actions lead to some terrifying outcomes as a sense of magic and horror combine for the all new A24 film of Death of a Unicorn. The film will see a father and daughter find themselves in a bit of a pickle when they accidentally hit and kill a unicorn with their car on the way to the Dad's Bosses mountain retreat and soon the boss tries to use and exploit the creatures magical powers and curative properties, but also bring some more horrific results when another magical creature appears to take their revenge. Reception on this title has also seen a bit of a mixed reception that while its concept and cast are an entertaining factor, some of the fantasy and horror feel a little lacking compared to other affair from A24 films but I am sure this film will get a fanbase very quick in some regards and if you want to believe in some creatures then you can see this creature feature out now in cinemas.
Tv Shows
Devil May Cry Anime
The last of the new releases for this week is another return to the world of video games but more in the video game adaptations where its time for a new take on a series of an anime with some deep monster curses and only one man with a heavy red jacker and fashion sense and flowing hair is up for the task as this Dante is about to bring the inferno with the all new series based on the video game of Devil May Cry. The series will follow Dante, A demon hunter for hire as he goes on a mission to stop a demonic invasion of earth by finding and trying to take down a demon obsessed terrorist known as the White rabbit who seeks revenge against the human race and must deal with that while also avoid being hunted down by the government organization of Dark Realm Command. Reception on this title itself has seen some very well recieved reception with praise to its visual style, its action set pieces and the love letter focus the series has provided to the fans of the original series of video games themselves and if you want to check the series out for yourself you can catch the full first season out now on Netflix.
Trailers to add to the supplies
Karate Kid Legends
So most of the trailers for this week have all come from one location that I will talking in length about and when these are brought up I will breeze through them and this first one is brining together the teachings of both the ways of the past and more recent affair and combining with something new to create something special in the world of martial arts as we have recieved a new trailer for the upcoming new film in the long running series of martial arts films with Karate Kid Legends. The film will follow kung fu prodigy Lee Fong who after moving to New York with his mother struggles to try and fit in with his classmates. When a new friend needs help, Lee enters a karate championship - but his skills alone aren't enough but when he gets the aid of both Mr Han and Daniel La Russo, he soon learns to merge two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown. So in all case with this franchise in general I would not be the most biggest of fans or have seen much of the series besides the original and that remake from 2010 and probably some clips from Cobra Kai, but I can see the likes of where the appeal of that franchise can be for some other people and in all sense I can respect that they do and I can see that they try and make it work and what I can see in this one sounds interesting of bringing the past and present together to create something new that might be something worth checking out. I may give a look when it does and if you are looking forward to it, its not too far along as the film will be kicking into cinemas from May 30th.
Bring her Back
Now the only trailer from this week that is not one that is being presented or released from Cinemacon is an all new entry of a film that has more of a sinister intent from a studio known for making some films that in the different genres can often appeal and in this case, bring some genuine unsettling scares as coming off of their first film success 2 years ago, The Talk to Me directors have returned to bring a new horror original to the masses with an all new trailer for their next film of Bring Her Back. Its not a massive plot premise presented but it will tell of A brother and sister uncovering a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother. What I like about some of these films is when they keep films vague in terms of what the plot is trying to be, especially if its a horror and from the looks of this one is that it is going to be something unsettling and haunting of a story with a great set of cast including Sally Hawkins who will no doubt bring some fear and scares to a performance of a mother dealing with some strange circumstances and it may be an appealing watch for sure and its not going to be much long of a wait until it comes out as the new film will be released into cinemas also on May 30th.
M3gan 2.0
Back to Cinemacon for the next trailer on the list is the return of a machine that initially from the first film had its concerns but turned out to be better then most expected and after 2 years since the original release, that bitch is back to cause more problems with an all new upgrade as we have recieved the trailer for the upcoming sequel of M3gan 2.0. Taking place after M3gan, a marvel of artificial Intelligence went rogue and went on a murderous rampage, its creator Gemma, has become an advocate for the government oversight on AI. But unbeknownst to her, a defense contractor has created a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, seen as the ultimate infiltration spy using the design and specs of M3gan. However as Amelia's Self awareness increases, it becomes less interested in taking orders and in the case of hoping to stop this new rogue AI, Gemma decides to resurrect M3gan to take them down and make her faster, stronger and more lethal. So I will say that I only saw the original not too long ago and enjoyed the likes of its sense of campiness and the killer doll is kind of unsettling for sure and felt there is plenty of possibility with exploring the danger of AI and while I can see the presence of that here, there is a bit of a weird tonal shift with it being suddenly going from a horror to more of an action film in some regards but maybe it could work, I do not know but I will give it a chance to see the outcome for this overall and we do not have to wait too long on this as well as this new AI upgrade will be uploaded into cinemas from June 27th.
But speaking of programming and AI in some regard, our final trailer for this week and also coming to us from cinema con is about to see the concept of a program that has been running for more then 40 years is about to make a massive leap forward and see worlds colliding in the process as after a bit of time, we have been given the first trailer for the upcoming sequel of Tron Ares. The film will be following a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world of Tron into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind's first encounter with A.I Beings. The likes of this franchise is an interesting one as the original has such a aesthetic and aura to it that it can provide something interesting and was built upon it in visual and scope with Legacy and from the small glimpse that they have shown here with this trailer, it does have some potential of appeal and combining of worlds may bring something new to the table. Hopefully this will turn out well (and hopefully the main lead does not do his usual approach of going full method with his performance that he normally does) and we can see how the worlds will collide when the film releases into cinemas from October 10th.
News of endless possibilities
the treasure trove of cinemacon 2025
So with the basis focus for this week is that we have 2 very big news stories and while I was expecting a total focus to the area of just one announcement first established back in January, there is one other big event this week that is one that had we start writing this episode much earlier this week and that is with the annual yearly event of Cinemacon where the big chain companies of cinemas chain owners come together in Vegas to talk on upcoming projects and announce a few new ones and I will be here to give an in depth dive into what was announced this year from every studio which will consist of I believe 7 studios with the only non appearance being streamers like Netflix. So lets delve into what was discussed in the form they were announced.
They then shown some footage for the upcoming film from Kogonada of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey that has Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell take a trip through a strange and wonderous trip about the past present and future and may fall in love with one another in the process and while it is vague in its discussion of the footage shown I am sure it may have some trippy and strange outcome overall and we will get a focus soon by its release on September 19th this year.
So that wraps up the Lionsgate one and while a fair few of them are ones I am not overly familiar with their release calendars but I few sounded interesting or some that many were excited for and are interested in checking it out but I am sure we will see them in due time. Now lets turn the attention to the 3rd studio and the one who most times they are in the news it is now always the most popular.
Yes the next studio in focus is with the company of Warner Bros, the "only Original Storytellers" as they like to say but then will shelve every film for tax write offs and lose more money in the process. Now to be fair in this instance they do have some announcements in focus and we can talk on all of them in focus.
So in the first we can start off with the big film of the summer and the case with the likes of a film that may not get a release here due to an ongoing lawsuit and that is of course with Gunn's Superman movie with most of the focus footage for the event was with the extended part of the start of the trailer with Superman crashing into the tundra and then being helped and rescued by Krypto and taken to the fortress of solitude before it led into the trailer again and while it is not much it may give some appeal. While I have heard a fair bit of mixed opinions from test screenings (which can either benefit or be an annoyance but I feel some may be just some that will say that nothing will compete with Snyder's vision are more of the mixed negative side) but we can see an extended scene at the Minecraft movie this week and then he will hopefully fly into cinemas from July 11th.The next film of focus is the all new film based on the high speed sport of F1 as they showed off a whole 10 minutes of footage that consisted of the first clip of Brad Pitts character pulling up to the racing trailer and is interspliced with scenes of them behind the wheel of the vehicles and giving that flair and style of the directors previous work of Top Gun Maverick making you feel you are in the seat itself up to him seeing his racing days behind them and then the following clip is Pitt meeting with Javier Bardem's character of him trying to persuade him to come out of retirement and train the new prodigy and I have some hope that they may try to capture lightning in a bottle with this one but I feel it has a chance and I will give a look when this film drops come June 27th.
We got another look at Paul Thomas Anderson's next film of One Battle after another that had a scene of Dicaprio arguing with someone over the phone in an apartment to find a rendezvous point with Benico Del Toro tossing the apartment apart with a rifle in hand that has a bit of a serious nature but also comes off as very comedic as well before it leads into the trailer that released last week. It sounds like the case that the director may work well enough with the blending of genre of tone and I am sure it will be worth a look when it comes along on September 26th.They then had quite the graphic focus in the new clip for the upcoming Final Destination Bloodline film that has 2 brothers in a Hospital looking to find a way to avoid a curse of them getting killed or killing someone else to evade that curse with some explotive aspects and a very graphic outcome and I am sure it will appeal to some while myself will probably be skipping this or else I will be on the floor on the movie cinemas after fainting and no one will give a damn (which has happened twice in 2 films before) but for those you can see this outcome on the 16th of May.
While we are a bit away from the Resident Evil film, we do have another horror coming to us from Barbarian Director of Zach Cregger with them unveiling a trailer for his new film of weapons that sees a mystery of a class of children in a school suddenly disappearing and a montage highlights of creepy scenes and focus. This one does sound unsettling and the case if its ghost or demon children then I am going to be creeped out and it has some strong cast like Pedro Pascal, Julia Garner, Brian Tyree Henry, Josh Brolin and a fair few more and it sounds interesting and I will give a look of interest when it comes out on August 8th.
The 2nd last film of focus from this studio was with the new look given to the new take on the Cat in the Hat with Bill Hader as the titular cat with a early draft form of a trailer of a neighbourhood in chaos before we learn that the Cat works for a form of an Imagination Corporation where he needs to improve or he'll lose his job and gets assigned to bring some joy and whimsy to 2 kids who don't greet him too kindly, though the trailer gives off a lot of laughs and gags and even with unfinished animation, it has potential, though some see it as being lacking in the charm of the Dr Suess style but maybe it could turn it around come its release Next February.
The last of the films they gave a big focus to was with the new film of The Bride which is a bit of a trailer showing Jessie Buckley dying at the start of the trailer before being reincarnated as a monsters bride to Christian Bale's Frankenstein and it seems to have a variety of style in Black and White, some variety of visuals and style and gives off a Bonnie and Clyde or Natural Born Killer aesthetic to it and it seems to have hit off well despite some early reports of mixed opinions from test screenings but I am sure it will be worth a wait and a well meaning discussion of a film when it releases in March next year. Now while I can say some of Warner's decisions were a little mixed, they did have some solid films in focus that I am interested to see some looks at and I hope they won't write them off for tax purposes. But now we move to a studio that is a variety of choice and has quite a selection to discuss on.
So we are around the midway point of focus for the week and the next studio in focus is of course with Universal as we have a selection of movies in focus from their subsidaries and their own base studio as well that we can get a focus to it but lets see what was unveiled at the event. So there was only one new announcement at the event and while the first film has not released yet until mid June (Though attendees saw a near finished version of the film at the event and early response has been very positive) it didn't stop them with just one as it was announced that they have planned the 2nd film of the How to Train Your Dragon series to get a Live action treatment and is releasing in June 2027. Now in all case this one I remember I was underwhelmed with or see as the weakest of the trilogy but maybe this new take could turn it around or maybe a rewatch of the original animated one may change my opinion on it but we can see by then. BUt hopefully this is not going to be a trend of Dreamworks pulling a Disney and doing all their films in Live action cause it is not needed.
OK lets start with the film that who's first part I would say I am a little conflicted on but may give a rewatch and see if watching that first half while smothering with a bad cold may change as we start with them showing a trailer for the 2nd half of the Wicked Adaptation that see's the element of Elphaba confronting Glinda in her new home in the Emerald City, Elphaba starting a revolution in Oz, Glinda's Wedding to Fieryo, Elphaba confronting the wizard and we get some shots of the characters from the original Wizard of Oz including a little girl from Kansas who just wants to go home. It sounds like there is a lot going on and I know from those that have seen the play that the 2nd act is a bit more tedious and dull compared to the first half but maybe this could change it but we'll see this by its release in November and I plead that we don't have another drinking game of taking a shot everytime the main leads get emotional on the press tour from a simple Q or the countless spamming of BTS photos for the film cause I have seen enough.
We then took a trip to the island that the prehistoric era forgot as we they unveiled some new footage to the 4th Jurassic World film of Rebirth where they showed some bit of footage of one bit being the massive cross species Mutant Dinosaur then a bit of a compilation of some of the big name stars of the cast on their mission to collect the DNA samples of some of the biggest dinos from land sea and air including a T-rex chase, grabbing eggs from a temple nest of a Quetzalcoatlus and an attack on the water from the Mosasaurus and it does sound like an interesting array of creatures and more evolved forms appearing in this film that will be worth a look into and I am sure there is a bit of hope with this series in due time and will give a look at it come its release on July 2nd.
They then showed some footage for the new Jordan Peele produced sports film of Him which gave a look at the film with the focus of a young potentially great football player with the focus and level of training and intensity with the assistance of the training from sporting great Marlon Wayans and then started getting a little more twisted as is expected with these films and while they haven't released the footage I think it will be interesting to see this in motion and I am sure it could be like a surprise hit like last years Monkey Man but we can see when the film drops in SeptemberYes the next studio in focus is with the company of Warner Bros, the "only Original Storytellers" as they like to say but then will shelve every film for tax write offs and lose more money in the process. Now to be fair in this instance they do have some announcements in focus and we can talk on all of them in focus.
It sounds like the case that the director may work well enough with the blending of genre of tone and I am sure it will be worth a look when it comes along on September 26th.
Now the next one I already shown on the trailers section and that is with the M3gan sequel that is not really more of a horror and more in the basis of turning into an action film which is a little weird but I guess they had to change it up in some way but maybe it can have that appeal of campiness that the original one had but we can see come its release in late June.Surprisingly the only bit of animated affair from Universal and that is with the Dreamworks division (I guess the Mario sequel is being kept under wraps) as they unveiled some new footage for the sequel to the Bad Guys which has some bits from the first trailer but we get more of an ideas to the story of the group being recruited by the Bad Girls to use a space shuttle for a heist and in the process Mr Wolf has an ulterior motive to sabotage them and turn them in. It sounds flashy, quick and fun which was a staple of what appealed to me from the original title that I am excited to check this one out come its release this August. They then showed off a trailer for the upcoming surprise sequel to the 2021 hit of Nobody that see Bob Odenkirk kicking ass as a simple every man while trying to spend more time with his family by going on vacation and in the process then will end up tying into taking down a massive drug king pin and it seems to be going all out in mad cap bonkers comedy and action and I am sure it will be another surprise hit when it comes out on August 15th.Well its then to ask the question of Are you once again ready for Freddy? As they unveiled a small 50 second teaser for the upcoming FNAF movie sequel that while not showing too much or giving too much on what this will entail, we do know that it will feature the Toy animatronic versions of the characters first introduced in the original game's sequel and only shown in small snippets with also a focus on the main human characters from the first film as well and I think from the brief shown clips that the designs of the animatronics look fantastic and props to the Jim Henson studios for bringing them to life and I am sure we will get an idea of this films plot by its release on December 5th.
Now one I questioned for a while of how a sequel will work for this one given how the original ends was finally unveiled as they showed off some footage at the event for the sequel to The Black Phone that sees the 2 kids of focus from the original film trying to move on with their lives after dealing with The Grabber but it seems that he is still a presence and haunting them from the afterlife and is going in a more supernatural element and I guess that is the only method to go and I am intrigued to see some footage to get an idea of this film by its release on the 17th of October. Now we are returning to the film series of M3gan for another film but this one is more in a spin-off side of things and a lot more of a Mature tone with Soulm8te that will see a man in a tryst relationship with a woman that turns out to be a robotic sexual companion and it is seen from the footage that it will be going a lot more bloodier and a bit of a more sexual nature which I mean it was bound to happen we would get the sex robot uprising (either that or else those real purchasable life size M3gan dolls have seen some fucked up shit) but I guess we can see this one play out by its release on the 2nd day of 2026.
They then shown some footage from the new film from Wes Anderson of the Phoenician scheme which focuses on Benico Del toro playing a rich aristocrat and Mia Threapleton as his nun daughter and see that after narrowly avoiding death in a plane crash decides to bestow his estate to his daughter before massive chaos will ensue and it of course has the charm and appeal of any Wes Anderson film from the past and I am intrigued to see what they have in mind to see by its release on May 30th.
We then got a new look at an upcoming title of Mercy that see's Chris Pratt as a detective accused of murdering his wife and has himself strapped to an AI played by Rebecca Ferguson to tap into memeories or envision scenarios and it sounds like quite the pretentious but interesting approach of a crime story that has a more modern day setting in the focus of the story and may be worth a checking into as we can see how it plays out by its release in late January.
Then in the case of rounding up of the last 3 I will focus on we have a film known as Crime 101 that will focus on 4 different faces all involved in the focus for a crime across LA with a cast of Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry and Barry Keoghan that will be a lot of focus on trust and commitment and betrayal and may be a worthwhile watch coming out later in the year. Then we have a film that has a bit of a religious element that also mixes something with Afro Punk, Greek Tragedy and Classic Spaghetti Western of 2 young girls who are at their mothers deathbed and call "god" who then requests them to kill their father who caused a fire that cause them to be injured which sounds simple but the mixed genre has my attention on wanting to see what they have in mind for that one soon. The last one I will give a focus look to is with the film that may cause quite the close shave with the film of 3 Bags full the sheep detective movie of a group of talking sheep solving the mystery of the death of their Shepard and it sounds like a weird way for a Whodunnit but I am all for it and I will give this a look in due time when this does come out in February 2026. So with them that ends all of the the films from Amazon and MGM and I am sure many will have their appeal and outcome and will see if Amazon can have some success. But we move onto the 2nd last of the studios and heading to the mountain tops.
The first group of projects that we have in focus on the way is in the area of talking on future films that did not get a major focus but are on the way for the future of the studio which includes an adaptation of the 2018 novel of Children of Blood and Bone that has a bit of a fantasy tone to it, A new Brad Pitt led survival Thriller that is aiming for a release sometime soon, the new collab film of South Park Creators Trey Parker and Matt stone and musician Kendrick Lamar was delayed by a few months from July 4th to March 20th next year to work more on the project as well to allow Kendrick to go on his world tour. Sonic 4 is on the way which of course will bring in the 2 new additions from the post credits of 3, the currently in development 7th Scream entry that is on the way out in the new year. The new Avatar film will now go by the Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender which will come out in January and the case that the sequel to 2023's Mutant Mayhem is still on the way in October 2026. Now lets focus on the films with the big focus.
Now while not fully shown in any there was a small bit of news about the upcoming Avengers film of Doomsday which they have confirmed that it will be the Avenger, Wakandans, Fantastic 4 and original X-men teaming up to take down Doom. Feige has also emphasized that more new cast additions will be making an appearance as well with most case another wave of castings coming soon so we can keep an eye on that before its filming start in a few days and its release in 2026.
The very final focus for this whole event was the unveiling of some first look footage at the upcoming biopic based on Bruce Springsteen of Deliver me from Nowhere with the footage showing the focusing on the era of him creating his album of Nebraska with him buying a car from a fan and also to find himself with his record as well as him recording and perfoming the song as well and from the sounds of things it may have some potential and it being approved and overlooked by the Boss himself then I feel it could have some strong potential when it does come out sometime in the future. And with this film, this ends every single announcement or focus at this year Cinema con and I will say that Disneuy and most of the studios have seen a lot of potential and appealing projects that some may be of interest and some not so much but we can vibe and appeal with the projects overtime and I know for sure if I can will talk on these in the future with the focus of new footage, news, trailers, release and reviews and beyond in the continuing discussion of all things media. But with all of that I would like to know your thoughts on this years cinemacon and as well as to know what are you looking forward to the most announced at this event? Let me know your thoughts and opinions down below and we can discuss about them there.
Next was the unveilment of a form of a tech demo for the console in the form of the Welcome Tour where you can buy this new title and get to experience all the extra tricks and features found in these Joy-cons and it may be appealing if one element of it costing something seems a bit dumb, but you can also try this title out as a launch game for the Switch of June 5th.They then went into showing some bits of accessories with the focus that the Switch 2 cartridges will be red instead of Black, some of them may not hold the full game like the previous Switch but its only for a small few, and then we got unveiled an all new version of the Pro Controller coming for the console on the same day as the launch. They also delved into how there is 3 different forms of Switch 2 games. The first is the first party exclusive games like the Mario Kart World, the 2nd is the backwards compatibility with most if near all of the original switch library with some that may not be fully functional or play at all but they will update by its release, and the last is known as the Switch 2 edition which is some games from the original console getting a somewhat updated version of the game which were shown off with 5 titles. This was shown to us with a selection of some titles already out or coming out which included Mario Party Jamboree which includes a new add in of Jamboree TV that will have a function of the camera and microphone functionalities as well as minigames using the new Mouse functionalities with this version releasing on July 24th. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom getting editions of upscaled graphics and framerates on the Switch App of Zelda's Notes for helping with quests, collectibles and even I heard of Achievements as well so that may appeal to you as well with them launching on June 5th. Kirby and the Forgotten land is getting one with an all new DLC story of the Star Crossed world that will be added to the game and launching on the 28th of August. Metroid Prime 4 is also getting a Switch 2 edition which will have better performance issues as well as some functions with the Mouse features of the Joy-Cons with this version coming out later this year with Switch 1 and lastly Pokemon Legends ZA also getting a focus of better visuals and performance and probably some other bits for its release with Switch 1 version later this year. All of these are available in a physical form but it also comes in a version that if you own any of these title you can purchase the upgrade version at a lower cost or maybe as a free upgrade with the Switch Online functions (the latter being unconfirmed right now) but we can talk on them later as well.
They then gave a focus to an all new game that will use the Mouse functionality of the Joy-Con's to the fullest with Drag x Drive of a new wheelchair Basketball game which may be an interest game to try and test out and have some extra pieces and appeal that we can see in due time when it comes out in the Summer of this year.we then delved into the focus of some of the partner developers and the first game that was unveiled surprised me as we are getting Elden Ring for the console with the tarnished edition that will have the original award winning game with some new features and customization for this title and will also include the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion so that is a proper packaged deal and we can explore this world when the game releases later this year. The next in focus was the first of the indie games with this being the sequel of Hades being announced for the console which is giving that hack and slash appeal the original offered and I am sure we can learn of its title when it releases either later this year or sometime in the future. We then had the first of the fighting game titles dropping on the console with the announcement of the Street Fighter 6 game coming to the console on June 5th that will include the Years 1-2 content of the new fighters, the full original title and has also confirmed that we are getting some special edition Amiibo's for the game, which also confirm Nintendo is still making these collectors items and a battle on the launch day may work out in it appeal. We then got a focus on the title of Daemon x Machina getting a Switch 2 announcement with a new subtitle of Titanic Scion being a sequel to the 2019 original with all new features, customization and a whole lot more and will be worth a try out when the title releases on September 5th.A title I expected and mentioned to come to the console and one seen as an early contender for Game of the year is of course the co-op title of Split Fiction with you exploring the array of sci-fi and fantasy world to escape the machine and get your ideas back from that malicious corporation with this game also confirmed as a launch title for the console.
We then got the focus of the first of 2 sports games coming to the console with both EA FC and Madden titles confirmed for the console which we expected. Now hopefully EA doesn't try and pull a thing like the first console and just not give a damn when they said they would but we will watch this space when the games from the studio get released.A return to the Wizarding world is also on the Horizon as the recently released Hogwarts Legacy is also getting a Switch 2 port coming which will have you resolve an ancient mystery before it falls into the wrong hands of some Goblins and Trolls with this also being a Launch title on the console. The recently announced Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4 remake was also confirmed for release on the new system which will bring the skating titles to the handhelds after the success of 1 and 2 remake a few years ago and you can pull off tricks as some iconic faces in the sport when the games launches later this summer. We then got a bit of a discussion from the company of IOI who have come in to announce that we will be getting the recent Hitman trilogy releasing for the new console with the signature editon of the title which is a pretty good deal of releasing that and I will be checking that one out as I have plaed a bit of these ones in the past and on the go will appeal a lot and this will also be seen as a launch title for the Switch 2. It was however not the only title coming from the studio as they announced their still in development title of Project 007 will also be making an appearance on the console in the future so both of them will be appealing to try out on that new hardware.a HD remaster of the new title of Bravely Default flying fairy was also announced to be coming out with a confirmed release of the turn based RPG getting a release also as a launch title for the Switch 2.The world of Yakuza will also be making a jump to the new console with the release of 0 Directors cut which will be the starting point of the whole series story and this will also be making a jump for release on June 5th as a launch title. We could not have an all new Nintendo console without an appearance of another iconic series as it was unveiled that we are getting another entry of the Hyrule Warriors series with it being a prelude to the story of Tears of the Kingdom as we have the announcement of Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment coming to the console as you play as Zelda and some of the original rulers and Warriors of Hyrule as you stop the power and destruction that is being caused by the great Demon King Ganondorf and the events of the ancient Imprisoning war first hand and this new fighting armada game will be making its way to the new console sometime this winter. They then had a little focus about the continuing method of the Nintendo Switch Online function including the element that you can still use the classic or expansion pass format of the online on your new console at no hassle but it did come with one big annoucement. We now have the confirmation that the Nintendo Gamecube will be getting its own emulation app with Online for the Switch 2 with 3 launch titles of Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Soul Caliber 2 and F-Zero GX and a confirmation for more and more titles coming to the app in the near future. It was also confirmed a new wireless version of the Gamecube controller with the new functions will also be available with both also releasing on Day 1 of the console. We return back to the partner developers and we have another hit Indie title announced as Toby Fox is bringing the first 2 chapters as well as both Chapter 3 and 4 to the Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title which gives the game an official release for this and all other consoles on June 5th that will be a one off payment for this version but all other chapters will be a free update so lets get excited to return to that strange world below our own in 2 months time. The upcoming 4th entry in the Borderlands series is also coming to this new console which will offer the colourfully violent and high octane title the series is known for on the go and this will be hitting the console sometime later this year (maybe after it initial September 23rd launch for other hardware).Ladies and Gentleman: Nintendo makes a console sequel and some hiccups
Well I thought this story was going to be the only Long form story for this week but then that film event happened so we got a very long episode this week, but this one we knew about for 3 months at this rate and that is of course of after being teased back in Mid January and then being surprised by another form of this last week, Nintendo had finally given his their longest 1 hour long Nintendo Direct focusing on their upcoming new console of the Nintendo Switch 2. Now in this case I will go in a form of talking on Specs, then I will give a rundown of the games and things announced and then I will finish up with a brief rundown of some issues I may have from this event but try and keep it a little more positive.
So lets start with what is being packed into this console. So in the basis of specs, the console's screen will 1.6" bigger then the original model from 2017 but will still be the same size in thick density. The console will be suporting up to 1080p HD on the handheld form and in dock can support up to 4K resolution with added elements of a cooling fan in the dock to avoid slowdown in framerate, the option to support games up 120 hrtz or FPS as well as the 60FPS. the console storage will be 8X bigger then the original and 4X bigger then OLED with a storage capacity of 256GB with the option to use a new form of express SD for extra storage (older normal models may not work). The Joy con's will be more of a metallic format to snap in and apparently work even put in upside down, they have been promised to have improved forms to avoid stick drift (but we'll see by then in the future) as well as the case the Joy-Con's offer an all new function of mouse controls that will be implemented into some games. An extra usb-c port to chard while in handheld mode or for the addition of some new accessories like the Switch 2 camera. This camera can be used with the new C button on the console which is the new game chat program so you and some friends can play and chat online with one game or your favourite game all at once and while it is a case the frame rate of the other peoples games may be choppy, I am sure it will be improved overtime. 3D audio will also be a new feature which may be an appealing element to the console that we can see in due time of its function. There is also another new feature of the game share where it used to be one game playing with the focus of 2 controllers of the switch but now you can share one game across 4 switches so more players can join in, as well as the virtual game card program as well. Lastly we have a release date for the console, with the console launching on June 5th without mentioning the case of any discussion of prices but only just a focus of a standard or a game bundle option of a launch title but we will mention that game later as well as some discussion about the price outcome. But for now lets move from specs and rundown all the games that were shown at the event.
We of course start off with the title that was first teased in the original announcement trailer and the game that started off the whole direct and that is of course the all new game in the Mario Kart series with Mario Kart World which is the biggest game in the series yet, with a focus of over 50+ characters from the known to the obscure, new modes from grand prix where you race on one course and then drive to the next one of the event, battle mode of racing to reach a certain position or may end up being knocked out of the race, and the first for the series of an open world Mario Kart with taking a little bit of a page out of the Crash Team racing and getting to explore the world at your own pace as well as new abilities like rail grinding, wall jumping and a whole lot more to be discovered and this is the confirmed launch title of June 5th that will bundle with the console that may be worth a try to obtain if you can but we'll discuss later. Also we will be returning to this title shortly as there is a planned direct for this title dropping on the 17th of April so we can look forward to that. The recently released 7th entry of the Civilization series will also be making a jump to the Switch 2 with updated visuals and specs and will also provide an option of an upgrade version if you own this title already on the original switch with this one now launching on the same day as the new console. The last of the titles announced from the 2K studios was the unveiling that the WWE and NBA titles will be making a release on the new hardware with it being unclear if it will release the recent entries first or will be starting with the next edition of the console but we can see when more of these titles drop in the future.
A new co-op adventure was then unveiled of a title known as Survival kids which sees you and 3 others exploring a deserted island to survive and gather supplies in order for you to rebuild your raft and get back home and this title will be released on the console as a launch title as well.
The long awaited sequel to the hit bulletstorm indie title of Enter the Gungeon was also confirmed for a release on the new console with the brief first look footage at the gameplay that many fans loved of the original and will be hitting the console sometime in the future.Another I guess Indie title of Star Seeker Astroneer expeditions was shown off which will have you and a crew exploring a strange Alien planet and looking to gather new resources and learn of the lands, vegetation and possible dangers and this new adventure in the cosmos will be coming out sometime next year.We then will be taking a trip into the future as it was announced that CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming to the new console with the ultimate edition that includes the original title as well as the expansion of Phantom Liberty which I feel for playing on the go will be worth a try and may be functional to it as well and I am all set to head to Night City again when it releases on launch day as well.A rumoured entry from a while ago made its presence known as it was announced that the remake intergrade of Final Fantasy 7 will be releasing for the system which is the first of the remake game trilogy and I have been meaning to play this title so maybe it is time I do on this console and we can see how it works out when this comes to the Switch 2 sometime in the future. We then started off a sizzle reel of title also coming to the console with the first being the Kunitsu- Gami title of Path of the Goddess releasing as a launch titleOne that people felt should've had more of a focus presence was the unveiling that Hollow Knight Silksong will be out on the console and while no set stone date, it is confirmed for a release this year.Story of seasons will get a Switch 2 edition with it releasing on the same day as Switch 1 of August 27th.A title of Goodbye universe of playing a 6 month old baby with some physic powers is getting a release for the console sometime in 2025The popular series of Two point with its new edition of Museum is also coming to the console with a release sometime in 2025.
The monster hunting / fighting title of Wild Hearts is getting a new version for the console with a release for the game aim for a July 25th release.
Witchbrook will also be coming to this console with a still planned release for this winter. The Popular series of Puyo Puyo Tetris series will also be coming with the title of 2S getting a release on launch day as well. The new entry of Rune Factory with Guardians of Azuma will also be releasing as a launch title for the Switch 2 on June 5th.The recently announced Marvel Cosmic invasion game was also announced to be on the way for the new console with a planned release still aimed for Winter 2025.Then we are off to a galaxy far far away as the newest Star Wars game of Outlaws was also announced to be coming to the new console with this entry aiming for a release sometime later this year. The RTS title of Nobunga's Ambition was announced for the console with this army defense and strategy game aiming for a release on launch day.Another high speed title of Fast fusion was also announced and is also a launch title for the new hybrid console. The Metroidvania Pacman title of Shadow Labyrinth will also be releasing on the new console and coming out the same day as the other consoles on July 18th.The recently announced remaster of Raidou is also getting a Switch 2 version with that also releasing as the first switch edition on June 19th 2025.As well as the recently announced no sleep for Kaname Date which will also be releasing as its Switch 1 counterpart on July 25th.The creepy horror title from Little Nightmare creators of Reanimal was also announced with a release for the console coming for sometime this year (surprisingly though no announcement of Little Nightmares 3 however)Fortnite is of course also coming to the new console with this also releasing on launch day top.A classic arcade entry with Ridge Racer is making a jump to the console with this speeding onto the console on launch day as well.
The new entry of the popular puzzle series of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will also be making its way to the new hybrid console and that will be coming out sometime in 2025.Tamagotchi Plaza will also be getting a Switch 2 edition with this one also launching the same day as the Switch 1 version with a release on June 27th.and the last of the sizzle reel announcements was with the new addition of the sequel to the goofy co-op title of Human Fall Flat 2 of you and friends getting into some goofy hijinks and that will be releasing sometime to the console soon. Then a title that initially I thought was a sequel to a long requested entry but this was a surprise change as FromSoftware announced a new exclusive title for the console that many thought, myself included was a Bloodborne sequel but it is actually a new game known as the Dusk Bloods which has a mix of the Bloodborne setting mixed with some supposed elements of the upcoming Nightreign title and it looks phenomenal and will be worth a try and for me to get good at these games when it comes out for release sometime next year.
The 2nd last game announced at the event was one that was not expected but we are getting a sequel to the Gamecube title of Kirby Air Ride with Air Riders which is aiming for a release later this year and is being helmed by Smash Bros director of Masahiro Sakurai and I didn't expect a new entry but we will take that appeal and I will give it a try when it does come out and we can see that work itself out in being the best of the best on the star shaped vehicles.
And that comes in the form of 2 aspects that has harpened the appeal of the console and that is the case of both the price for the games and console and on the other one to me is the Battery life. I'll start with the battery as according to some discussions, it seems to be the case this ones battery life is apparently worse then the original with the most being about 2 - 6.5 hours at most which does sound a little bit of a downgrade, even when they emphasized that the battery will be a lot bigger in this console. Now this could be some tweaking that could be done but it will have an affect if it does only have a small battery life while in handheld but hopefully will be a quick charging form. As for one other aspect to be an affect is with the pricing. Initially for the last while, there was a variation of rumoured pricing going about for the console and the case was the main area it was aiming for was a 400 price for the console which seemed reasonably fair in its worth, but it has now come into the announcement of the price for the console with the base model coming in at $450 / £396 / €470 and the one with the new Mario Kart as a digital download is at $500 / £430 / €510 which is a lot more then people thought and most case in the reasoning was for the likes of the tariffs being set by the orange man in the US that affected the globe and also has now seen the delay of the pre-order start day in the US. But this also came to a blow for the the games as it was announced that the digital version of Mario Kart was costing $80 / €80 / £67 and then $90 / €90 / £75 as a physical which has also affected a few other titles like the new DK game as well (though that is 10 cheaper). This has also come to affect with the prices of some of the Switch 2 edition titles with the Zelda Titles coming in at the same price as the DK game which feels way too much. The pricing on these titles has near doubled of the last console which is a shock to the system and it has seen a lot of people hold off on buying the new console and games because of it which may harm the sales of the console and could see a Wii U fiasco happen to it again. Now hopefully there will be a case that Nintendo can fix this wrong between now and June with a reduced price to the 400 for the base console and even 430-450 for the Mario Kart Bundle and then also reduce the game prices down by 20 for Mario Kart pricing at 70 max physically and 60 digitally and I am sure it will sell more and more cause I feel Nintendo doing this will cause a knock on affect of other companies following in the same footsteps and pricing games at an eye watering price, but hopefully they will fix this mess and bring back that hype everyone had for the last few months and plays some fun and exciting games (I mean I can't say too much as I have already pre-ordered a console so we'll have to see on that if it reduces as well before launch).
But I want to know after all of that your thoughts on everything that was announced at this direct, are you excited at anything that was announced and will you be buying a Switch 2 yourself or has all this mess affected your opinion? Let me know your reasons why down below and we can discuss about them there.
The Looney Tunes Courtroom comedy lives on and some other small announcements
Our final story for this week is mainly a selection of some small announcements and one big one at the end that will have a mix of appeal, indecisiveness and a bit of sadness as well but we are going to delve into those announcements now.
So there is a small bit of casting news for 2 different projects that are in the works but both have a slight connection in the form of the genre it is based upon in the realm of fantasy as we have a casting rumour for both the Harry Potter TV series and the upcoming Greta Gerwig Narnia films that may have their mixed of opinion. So on the basis of HP we do have another rumoured name for one of the professors of the school that is well known by many in the series with this being the lovable Half-giant of Hagrid and this is the case that comic actor Nick Frost may be in reports to be playing this character which I think for a casting choice makes sense and would work and the one he often Collab's with of Simon Pegg has already made an appearance in the series as the voice of Headmaster Black in the Hogwarts Legacy game so I guess it makes sense, even as I am still conflicted on the likes of if we really need a reboot to this franchise so soon after the films? But I guess we can see by its production start date in a few months time if it will work out. As for the other casting with the Narnia films we have seen a few rumoured ones already with Charli XCX being eyed for the White Witch and reports of Daniel Craig for the role of Uncle Andrew, but the next one is another character that is probably more well known for these stories and has some symbolism towards a religious figure and that is course with the talking Lion of Aslan, but the casting rumour may be a weird choice as it was reported the character may be voiced by Actress Meryl Streep. While I believe that Streep is an excellent actress and I feel she could fit well in this world of fantasy in many roles, the likes of playing a character that has been a Male character since the original novels feels a bit off that they would need to change the look of Aslan to fit more of the female trait to a Lion instead of the Male with the massive manes. Like I can understand but maybe it is early talks and it could be these castings might be moved around a bit and get a change as all so far are just rumours and speculation and I am sure we will get the full picture in due time of the casting for all of these but for the moment all we can do is speculate and talk on the rumoured ones.
But with all of that I will like to know your own thoughts to these announcements, do you see these casting choices as accurate or will they be for other roles in their projects and will you be going to watch Coyote vs Acme when it releases? Let me know what you think down below
And with all of that, this ends a very long 110th episode of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you have enjoyed this excessive rambles for another week and hopefully will be shorter next week. Let me know your thoughts on everything down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday doing many great things and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take care keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
