Weird Mind News Room Episode 117: May 19th - 25th
*music for the alien Roller coaster ride*
Hello again to all of you wonderful precious people all across the information superhighway to the newest edition of my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where this week we have a fine selection of New Releases, a handful of trailers to indulge in and a bit of an odd quiet week of news stories, but we can get to that in due time so lets get to delving into talking on all things media for this week in particular.
Ohana means New Releases
Movies
Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning
The first of the new releases for this week, should you choose to accept in seeing this new release, has been a long time coming, as after going on a journey that has spanned across nearly 3 decades and multiple films in this franchise with a leading man that defines action cinema, it may be the time for this franchise to come together for one last mission and for one last death defying stunt in order for this special agent to save the world from total destruction as after being split into 2 parts and having a bit of a delay, we have finally recieved the 8th and presumably final film of the Mission Impossible series with The Final Reckoning. The film will follow on the the conclusion of Dead Reckoning with Ethan Hunt and the IMF obtaining the key item needed and must now travel across the globe in order to find and destroy a highly deadly weapon known as the Entity, a powerful AI gone rogue that may destroy humanity if it falls into the wrong hands, while also dealing with the misdeeds of the past getting in the way of saving the world. Reception on this entry has also been getting some very well recieved reviews with praise for establishing the legacy that came before it and for being a solid send off to the franchise (I am sure there will be more) though some see it as being a little underwhelming in some regards but to each their own in terms of choice and opinion and if you want to check it out for yourself, then you can catch this next entry out now in cinemas.
Lilo and Stitch (Live Action)
As for the other big film release of this week and one that I see as being a somewhat form like a Barbenheimer but probably not (and overdoing it with differing types of film can be a bit overdone) we are heading to the house of mouse once again to see their latest form of taking their animated classics and bringing it to the real world and while the previous Live action entry had its drama (and I think personally was really well overblown and personally think it was a very enjoyable film) this time around will have a bit more mischief and chaos in something that is cute and Fluffy as this little Blue alien is about to be unleashed on the islands of Hawaii as we have the all new Live action adaptation of Disney's Lilo and Stitch. For those uninitiated about this games plot, the story follows Lilo, a little Hawaiian girl who is a bit of a loner and odd child who must deal with the dilemma of being cared by her big sister from losing custody of her from child services will get a surprise of a visit and befriending of a small blue creature named stitch who it turns out to be an alien experiment on the run from the galactic federation and from his creator and while he was designed to be a creature that destroys, it will soon learn about the importance of family and ohana along the way. Reception on this new remake seems a bit more positive compared to the previous remake with praise to its preformances, visuals, humour and heart and for being a respectful and well liked retelling of the original (though if you look online on YouTube will tell you a different story and just feels the same repeat patterns are mentioned) with some critiques of some changes or missing additions of the original, though hearing they are teasing a sequel in the credits may change that, but if you want to check it out for yourself, you can also catch this new release now in cinemas.
The Phoenician Scheme
The last of the films for this week is a return of the new focus of films in mind that comes from a well established and beloved quirky director with the quick wit, original story and always have a large ensemble and have every film shot in a unique perspective as Wes Anderson is back again and back from returning from the vast industry of Cannes with his all new film of the Phoenician scheme. The film will follow wealthy businessman Zsa-Zsa Korda who after surviving another plane crash, decides to leave his entire estate to his sole daughter of Sister Liesl. This soon leads to him going on a journey of embarking on a new enterprise that soon becomes a target to scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists and determined assassins. Reception on this new title like his previous outings have also been garnering some decently well recieved reception with praise to the performances including main lead of Benico Del Toro and the all star cast, its humour, visuals and cinematography charm that he has, though some see the story is a little bit more messy and a little all over the place but I am sure there is a fair appeal overall with the narrative and if you want to check this out for yourself then you can catch this new film out now also in cinemas.
TV Shows
Big Mouth Final Season (Thank God its over)
And the last of the new releases is one I am not giving too much of a focus on as this series is probably well known and has I feel in some way has overstayed its welcome but it is tome to "come together" for one last awkward ride as after nearly a decade on the streamer, they have finally released the final season and ending of the Netflix series of Big Mouth. This of course will continue and wrap up the narrative and story of these young versions of these creators and stars of this series as they go through the mess and drama of Puberty with the aid of the Hormone Monsters and the other creatures of Human Resources as they work their way to the growing into themselves. Reception on this title that I question everytime is that they all get strong reception and felt they had covered all topics after the like 3rd or 4th season (plus this series is bordering on questionable CP type levels but then Again Netflix did promite the film of Cuties so...... yeah) but thankfully it is all over and now we can get some properly good animated shows and maybe a return of some others that were promised more stories or seasons but if you want to see how this all ends then you can catch the full series all now available on Netflix.
Mission Operation: Trailer Talk
Predator Killer of Killers
The first of the Trailers for this week is a new look at the battle of the creatures that throughout the age of man we have seen the vast changes of the different form of the most powerful hunter or fighter on this planet in many times of the history of the world have seen those tactics evolved. However in this new instance while they may be the best of their time, they are about to face off against the most powerful of them all as we have gotten one more trailer for the upcoming new animated anthology film of Predator Killer of Killers. The film will give a focus on 3 of the most fiercest warriors in Human history: a Viking Raider guiding her young son on a request for revenge, a Ninja in Feudal Japan who turns against his Samurai brother in a brutal battle of succession; and a world war 2 pilot taking to the sky to investigate an otherworldly threat to the allied cause and while they may all be killers in their own right, they will be merely prey to their new opponent who is seen as the ultimate killer of killers. Now it has to be said that the Predator franchise has definitely seen a massive appeal and it is seen that both of the projects that we have for this year are very exciting concepts and elements in their own right and this one is giving me some really appealing vibes and aesthetic with the visual style of animation that gives me a bit of a Spider-verse or Arcane style of animation and from the looks of things it looks really cool and I do hope that the likes of this anthology will be as great as the directors last Predator film of Prey and I am excited to check it out and its not too long away as it will be releasing in just about 2 weeks time on June 6th,
Jurassic World Rebirth
Now for a return to a world for the 2nd trailer that has the element of over those past 65 million years, the creatures that walked this earth that were thought to have been wiped out were reborn with the creation of the park, but in the likes of some of this new form of footage, not all of them made it to the original park and some have evolved into something more dangerous and we will need to go to their hunting grounds to obtain something important and also save their own kind, as we have received a new trailer for the upcoming entry of the Jurassic World series with Jurassic World Rebirth. This new film will be set 5 years after Dominion and the worlds climate has evolved to become more inhospitable for the Dino's where they now reside in more remote tropical locales. The film will follow Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), a Covert Op, who is hired by a pharmaceutical company to work with DR Henry Loomis (Johnathon Bailey) and Henry Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) on a top secret mission to a forbidden island that was the original research facility for Jurassic Park and locate the 3 largest Prehistoric species of the land, sea and air and extract some DNA samples in the hopes of being used to create some revolutionary drug that will save countless lives. However this expedition is not going to be easy as while the planet has evolved over the years, so has these creatures to where a new breed of mutations have now begun to take shape. Now it can be said that the likes of the Jurassic Park or World series has been focus that every entry has both its fans and detractors with many seeing that they haven't gotten a proper solid entry since the original film (Jurassic World came close but still had its issues and personally I enjoyed all of them that had come out even with the massive glaring issues) but this one gives me some sense of appeal in trying something different that while it can be seen that we have seen the likes of Dino Cross species over the years, this one seems to be going all out with the mutant crossover and all out action and I think so far from the original films writer and the director with a visual flair, I can see this having some appeal and I know I will give this a proper check out and you can as well as the film will be roaring into cinemas from July 2nd.
It Welcome to Derry
Now for the 3rd trailer, I heed the warning that for those with the fear of those weird looking clowns that this one may not be for you, but in the instance of this next one, this one has many forms but in all case will still have one thing to know is that we will all float down here and you could too as we have recieved a trailer for the newest prequel series based on the very popular Stephen King novel and adaptations with IT Welcome to Derry. The film will serve as a prequel to the 2 recent adaptation of the novel and set 27 before the first in in 1962 and focus on a group of young kids who begin to sense the presence of an ancient evil, Specifically Pennywise, rising in the town and will explore more of the origins and deep history of the Town of Derry and the shapeshifting clown. So I remember thinking that the recent adaptations of this novel had genuine good development and focus and while I feel that Chapter 2 did fumble it a bit more in being all over the place, I still think they worked well overall and from what I am seeing on this so far in terms of footage and concept, it is giving the strong vibes of those films and there is a fair bit of unsettling focus to it that does appeal. Sure I am not at the moment fully blown away by it but I will warm to it overtime and I am excited to check it out and its not too far away as it will be releasing on HBO Max in the US and Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland sometime this fall.
Zootopia 2
The last of the film trailers for this week is seeing us make a return to a land inhabited all by a group of andromorphic animals who thrive, work, live and experience many new things in this bustling city, but in the focus with 2 familiar faces, it looks like they are about to have their work cut out for them once again and are on the case for a new mystery to solve as after nearly a decade since the original film, we are returning to this bustling massive metropolis with the first teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel to Zootopia (I know it is called Zootropolis where I am from but I am going by the more well known name). The new film will see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde finding themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile (Key Huy Quan) who has arrived in Zootopia and turns the mammal Metropolis upside down in the process. To crack the case, Judy and Nick will have to go undercover and test the limit of their partnership to solve this mystery across the vast lands of this city and beyond before everything falls into chaos. So it is to say that the original film was so inventive, fun, colourful and also tackled some well established deep themes and there was so much of this world and focus that I could see them tackle and show off as there is so much potential with this world building and bringing these characters back will do just that in appeal. While the teaser does not show too much, it gives an idea of some of the colourful new parts of this world we will see in the film and I am sure a whole lot more and I am excited to check this out in due time and it is a little bit away but I am sure it will be worth to check this new film out when it releases into cinemas from November 28th.
The Bear season 4
The last of the trailers in focus is bringing us back into the belly of the beast, in the intense and fiery pits of the kitchens and workforce to provide both a hefty serving of delicious cuisine, and a hard hefty dosage of stress, drama and storytelling as we are returning to the small new culinary restaurant once again for a trailer for the 4th (and maybe possibly final) season of The Bear. This new season will see Carmen, Sydney and Richie pushing forward and determined not only to survive but to take the Bear to the next level in culinary excellence after the response from a recent review had put a bit of a damper in their career and look to make a change to that. So I will say that I can see the likes of the appeal of this series as it has a decent good focus dynamic of family and building trust amongst this ragtag group of chefs and while they have you salivating at the mouth with the tasty dishes but also feeling the heat of how close quartered and quick everything was too. I know I have not reached the last season yet and have heard it is a bit of a mixed outcome but I feel it may have its slight hiccups now and again with any show and I am sure it will go out with a bit success hopefully, but we will see how it comes about when the new season drops onto Hulu and Disney+ in about a Months time on June 25th.
