Weird Mind News Room Episode 134: Sept 15th - 21st
*Music for a big bold journey*
Well hello again to each and every single one of the information superhighway to the newest edition of the weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where this week we will have a bit of a much shorter week with a little selection of New Releases, some trailers in focus and some of the News stories that we have in focus for another week but lets not over waste time on these intros and lets get to properly talk on all things media that we do have for this week
A journey of New Releases
Movies
A Big Bold, Beautiful Journey
So the first of the releases for this week is in the focus that in life we will come across points in time that you never know what will come from the journey from great memories and loved ones that you will feel that if a chance to experience them again in a new light, will you go through that door as we have the release of an all new film project known simply as A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The film will follow Sarah (Margot Robbie) and David (Colin Farrell) a pair of strangers, who through a surprising twist of fate will see them on a journey getting to relive important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present. Reception on the film has not been the best recieved as while the praise to the concept and the performances of the 2 leads are present, the film becomes too convoluted in the execution and some of the themes may leave some people a bit confused, but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch the new film out now in cinemas.
TV Shows
Gen V Season 2
Then for the 1st of 2 shows we have for this week is in the time frame for when the summer break has wrapped up for so many and for those going into higher education, will be a start of more new lessons and forms, but instead of the usual affair of the normal fields of education, we have more of the powers one possesses and how in a changing world around them, what will come of this whole ordeal as a new term is in session as we have the release of the 2nd season to the Popular Boys Spin off of Gen V. The 2nd season of this series will follow on from the events of season 4 of the Boys with the US now under the rule of Homelander's Reign, it will see Marie and the rest of the inmates return to the school of Godolkin after the affects of the attack on the school of the first season, with a new dean having taken over looking to turn Supes into Soldiers. Soon with the threat of a war on the brink of breaking out between humans and Supes, the team will soon discover a program that will possibly change everything and Marie may be the one person that could be the key to resolve everything. Now reception on this new season like the first one has been very well recieved as praise has been given to the new more established story and working of the overarching story of this universe and respectfully writing off of a character from a tragic passing, though some have established that the season takes a bit of time to get into at the start but picks up as it goes on and if you are all set for a new semester then you can catch the first 3 episodes now on Amazon prime with a new episode every Wednesday.
High Potential Season 2
As for the 2nd show of this week in focus, we give the case that the likes of crime and murder and mystery is one thing that will take sometimes a fair bit of time and focus to find the solution to all of this ordeal, but in the case of this crime division, they have one that will have the secret weapon of someone that can foretell the crime through a special ability, as we have the return of the crime drama to clean up the act as we have the release of the 2nd season of High Potential. This series will of course continue the story of Morgan, a single Mom of 3 who works as a Cleaner for a Police Department where her unique ability has helped to solve cases the department seems to have struggled to figure out and from the end of the previous season will have her getting too close to the truth for a serial killer known as the Game Maker and must find a way to keep her family safe and solve that mystery before anything else falls apart. Reception on this new season like the previous has seen some well recieved reviews so far with praise to its overraching narrative and humour as well as the lead performance of Kaitlyn Olson being a joy to watch solve the case and if you want to check it out for yourself, then you can watch the first episode now on Disney+ and Hulu (albeit if you haven't boycotted or cancelled over some turmoil I am not getting into) with a new episode releasing every Tuesday.
Video Games
Dying Light the Beast
As for the last of the new releases and the one focused big game of the week, we are returning to a world that has seen a form of a virus taken ahold of a country by the neck and turned many into the forces of the undead, ones that become more dangerous at night and those surviving taken in the art of the free-running parkour to survive and in this case we come back to a character first brought to attention a few years ago whos fate has been left up in the air for some time, but its now time for him to be unleashed once again as we have the newest entry in the popular series of Dying Light with Dying Light The Beast. Taking place after the ending of Dying Light the Following, the game will have you play as original protagonist Kyle Crane, who after his transformation into a form of the undead known as a Volatile, he is soon captured by the Global Relief Effort and taken prisoner by a mysterious figure of The Baron. After 13 years or experimentation and Torture, Crane soon escapes and infused with both Human and zombie DNA, will go on a revenge Quest against the Baron, who also having to fight with the Beast Within. Reception on this new title in the series has seen some well recieved reception with praise to the gameplay, narrative, characters and blending of new powers and modes and lead to many narrative choices in the process and if you want to try it out for yourself, the game is available to play now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC with a PS4 and Xbox One version releasing later this year.
Trailers to work on reflection
Springsteen deliver me from nowhere
On the first trailer that we have in focus for this week is in the realm of taking a look and perspective to the life and career of another famous face in the industry, a thing we have seen over the many years and of some that are still with us or have passed on but kept as a legend to the eyes of many and in this case we are taking a look at not the full life, but a part of a life to the legend that is often known as The Boss as we take a look at a point of their life and career that brought a massive change for the better as we have recieved the 2nd and presumed final trailer for the upcoming biopic of Springsteen Deliver me from Nowhere. The film is set in the early 80s and will follow in the creation of Springsteen's 1982 album of Nebraska when he was a young musician on the cusp on global superstardom, while struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. It is to say that like I mentioned last time, it can be interesting to see the approach and character perspective that a filmmaker will do to tell the life and story of some famous faces as I know myself I may not be overly familiar with Springsteen's Music, though some of his songs I will say are great and I am sure with the release of this project it may appeal more to me with seeing it and going off of the recent reception at the film festivals, it seems to be a very strong hit and success and could see some potential for awards and I am sure it will all be worth a checking out when the film plays its way into cinemas from the 24th of October.
Monster: The Ed Gein story
The next trailer in focus will technically be a form of a Biographical take on a life story that will be in the form of a more miniseries perspective, though the focus in this project is a lot more unsettling in that approach as a lot of the time we focus on famous faces that provide a sense of a career or hope, this person in particular is more in the realm of taking a life away instead, and in the particular instance will be a lot more messed up in that regards as we delve back to the mind of seeing the killers perspective as we have the release of the 2nd and final trailer for the upcoming new entry of the Monsters series with the Ed Gein Story. This new story will focus on the twisted reality of convicted murderer and suspected serial Killer of Ed Gein (Charlie Hunnam) back in 1950s Rural Wisconsin who was well known as the killer that turned his victims organs and skin into twisted furniture. We have seen a lot of projects over the years that have given us many a famous face or killer or even the likes of those that could be fictional or may have been real people and in the case of this one, they are one that has inspired many a famous and sinister characters of horror from Leatherface, Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates and the stuff that he did is really that fucked up and messy. Now due to the likes of my own personal Hemophobia, I have a feeling I will be very light headed and probably will not survive this but I am willing to give it a look into in due time and it is not too far away as the project will be unleashed onto Netflix in just about currently under 2 weeks time on October 3rd.
Anaconda
The 3rd trailer that we have for this week is in the case that we have seen many focused projects get the form of a reboot aesthetic, but what if the basis of the film itself was making the film, in the film to be remade of the original classic film? Well it seems with this new take on the project, that seems to be the case and have to wonder in that aspect if it don't want none unless it got those buns hun, as we have recieved the trailer for the upcoming new take on the popular 90s classic of Anaconda. The film follows Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd), two men going through the stages of a Mid-Life Crisis who decide to head into the Amazon Rainforest to remake their favourite film from their youth of Anaconda, but everything changes when a real giant Anaconda shows up, turning the comically chaotic set into a deadly situation and the movie they are dying to make, might end up killing them. So I remember the announcement of this project and it was a case I was wondering what would they add or provide to the original film, but I can see from this approach that it is giving me the vibes of another popular project from years ago of Tropic Thunder which was a film about them making a war film and it becoming a much more dire outcome when they find themselves in the middle of an ongoing conflict and it seems like it could be one of those project that could appeal in some comedy and some small elements of scares of a creature feature and in all sense I am a little more invested in the project and I am sure it will be worth seeing how all of this plays out when the creature is unleashed into cinemas from Christmas Day.
Now you see me now you don't
The last of the trailers for this week is providing a sense of pizazz as we have seen the likes and elements overtime of the concept of Magic through the use of Card Trick, top hats with rabbits and a wave of a wand just to name a few, but what if the case besides the element of illusion, it is used for other things such as crime and when the job is too small for an elaborate group, they'll need some more tricks of the hand to help them out as the Four Horsemen are back once more with the release of the 2nd and probably guess final trailer for the 3rd entry of the series with Now you see me, Now you Don't. The film will see the magic group of thieves of the Four Horsemen reunite after separating some time ago and have recruited three new highly-talented illusion magicians and bring them in for a heist for them to steal the largest queen diamond in the world from a family crime syndicate and deal with the consequences through the use of magic. Its always an interesting ideal of making something appealing in the form of a heist film in some fun and unique ways and I see the likes of some of this can appeal with how they use magic to obtain some items under the noses of others and can see like it will be interesting what form of tricks they will have up their sleeve for this time around and if the new additions will add some charm to the trick or leave it feeling the secret has been revealed, but I guess we shall find out in due time with the release of the new film in just under 2 months time on November 14th.
News to fight the blues
Finding the right Demi's for the selection of the Emmy's
So the first on the stories for this week is giving a little bit of a focus and discussion to some of the award season discussion as last Sunday we had the annual Emmys come and go with the focus of some of the last years best of Television finding themselves in with the chance to win some of the big awards and in this case I will give a look at the awards and give a quick rundown of the biggest winners for the event and some of the highlights in focus as well too and for the time now I will delve into the focus of talking on what to expect from this years winners.
So in the basis of the biggest winning show of the night, it seems to be the same with both normal and creative Arts with the big winner going to Apple Tv+ the Studio winning a combined total of 13 awards of its 23 nominations which includes best Comedy Series and Lead performance for Seth Rogan, and making it the biggest winner of the emmy's overall this year. Coming in with the 2nd most wins was with the Limited series of The Penguin with 9 of its 24 of the main Emmy's including Cristin Milloti winning for her performance of Sofia Falcone (which I felt was deserved). Then there is a bit of a 3rd place mix that while one is similar for both being the SNL 50th Anniversary special, winning 7 of its 12 nominations including the win for the Variety Live show special, and then the other 2 big ones from the event getting a 3rd place win was with Severance winning 8 of its 27 nominations, including Britt Lower for Lead Actress and Tramall Tillman for Supporting Actor and lastly the case of Netflix limited series of Adolescense winning 6 of it 13 nominations, including best limited series, best lead for Stephen Graham and then a new history win as 15 year old star Owen Cooper winning for best supporting actor for a limited series, the youngest actor in the history. It was a mix of surprises as well where the previous year or 2 years ago, the series of The Last of Us was sweeping many of the awards of the Creative side, but came away with no wins of its 16 nominations (though it was a tough contest, season 2 had a mixed appeal given the plot focus of the season from the divisive game and I am sure season 3 may bring that appeal back) and another award darling that got overlooked was with the Bear also not winning anything from the events, even with 13 nominations. Now one big one that seems to be a positive approach was with the case that Stephen Colbert's Late show won itself an Emmy for Late Night Talk show, even after it was cancelled due to the whole climate in the states (a situation that has really kicked off again this week that I am not getting into) that I feel may help bring them back but it is a confusing time now. But overall, most of the wins at the show seems to be well deserving and some surprises of ones that seem to have a proper chance may get snubbed or beaten by a better release, but I say it will be well worth to look at these shows overtime and see what entertainment will be the big nominations of next year.
But what do you think of all of these nominations, do you think many of these are well deserved and what would you have wanted to win in the different categories? Let me know what you think down below in the comments.
News of Birds, Toys, Teens, Muppets, Dragons and Pocket Monsters
And for the 2nd and final News Story for this week is in the focus of some discussion on some updates to some projects, including release changes, announcements and some rumours too for this week and for the case of this one we will delve into running through what to expect in this upcoming project.
Lastly unrelated to the likes of film, tv or games, we have a more physical product that has seen some possible discussion of getting some new updates and that is the case of an update to the new range of LEGO being based on Pokémon. Now we were given confirmation that this was on the way back earlier this year and have since then been given ideas of some of the sets and prices for one or two but this week we have been given some news in relation to some of the big ones as it was reported from some reliable insiders with LEGO that the series will be a massive focus from Nintendo in 2026 over their Mario and Animal Crossing range, as it is set to have a total of 3 waves of releases next year and about 20 set from the big, small, Junior and Brickheads Ranges with the first wave coming in late Feb / Early March 2026 and then the next 2 around the summer or fall. Now that is all we know besides the case of one of the confirmed sets which is the likes of the massive set launching March 1st coming in at an eye watering €650, but I guess the contents on it makes sense as this massive set is actually building versions of the original Gen 1 Pokémon starters with it being a focus of a big buildable Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle which I get would be a really great size set, though maybe a little too pricey (then again the resale of old Pokémon games and the Trading Cards are a whole other ordeal). It will be interesting to see these sets in full release and hopefully one of the more pricey but on the lower end ones will give us a big build of the iconic yellow sparkster of Pikachu but I guess we will see overtime once some more new sets and confirmed images and prices are made available in a few weeks and if a case anything does come up, I will of course talk on it in a later episode.
But what do you think of all of these announcements, Do you see the Angry Birds 3 casting as decent and will do well at the box office from its new release date, would you watch more Toy Story films or should they cap it at this new one, Are you excited for a new Muppet special and possible series, are you looking forward to new Euphoria and Game of Thrones shows and will you be getting any of the Lego Pokémon when it comes out next year? Let me know your thoughts on all of it down below.
And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 134th Edition of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoyed listening to the ramblings of a mad man for another week. Let me knw your thoughts on all that was discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take Care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
