Weird Mind News Room Episode 142: Nov 10th - 16th
*Music for running from pursuers*
Well Hello again to you all once more, My name is Sam and I welcome you to the newest edition of Weird Mind News Room where of course like every week I will be taking you through and talking on all of the new releases, trailers and news that the world of entertainment has to offer. So lets not waste time and lets jump into the wide selection of media that we have for this week.
New Releases to have you keep on running for
Movies
The Running Man
We start off the week of new content with the basis that if given the chance to win a life changing amount of money by taking part in a dangerous game where you could lose your life in the process, would you be up to the challenge and how far will you go to take it all down, well that is what one of my favourite directors is looking to take an approach in as Edgar Wright is giving his own take on the popular adaptation of a Stephen King novel with the release of his own take on The Running Man. The film is of course based on the original 80s novel by Stephen King and set in an alternate 2025 where the economy is in ruins and worldwide violence is high that sees a massive popular worldwide television game show called the Running Man see contestants earn big cash prizes by trying to survive for 30 days from being hunted down and killed by professional hitmen by any means necessary and will see our main focus of Ben Richards become the next contestant on the run and may soon lead to him wondering if this an elaborate scheme and find a way to shut it down and provide a better life for him and his family. Reception on this new take seems to be a bit mixed to modestly recieved with praise to the performances, action scenes and being a well formed take on the original novel, while some have seen it as feeling it is lacking in the flair that Edgar Wright is known for with his films but still an entertaining outcome overall and if you are up for checking this out then you can run and catch this film out now in cinemas.
Now you See Me, Now you Don't
Now for this next one I was going to ask you all to pick a card, but since this is all in text form I see this is an issue (besides maybe the video version it will work) but in the case that while it can be seen that magic is used to amaze, it seems it can be used for more cooler things, such as crime as it seem the four horsemen have returned and brought some new additions to the group for another scheme with the release of the 3rd entry in this series aptly titled Now you see me, now you don't. The film will see the magic group of thieves of the Four Horsemen reunite after separating some time ago and have recruited three new highly-talented illusion magicians and bring them in for a heist for them to steal the largest queen diamond in the world from a family crime syndicate and deal with the consequences through the use of magic. Reception on this 3rd film seems to be a bit more of a mixed reception but currently ranks as the best in the series with praise on the chemistry of the cast of characters and some of the appeal of the tricks and scenes that occour in the film, even if the plot is a little lacking and some of the magic is too over reliant on CGI but may appeal enough that it will see a return for a 4th entry on the way and if you want to see some magic up close or from a distance on the big screen then you can do so now in cinemas.
Keeper
Now in the sense of this 3rd film release, Halloween may have been 2 weeks ago at this point, but it is still a case that we have some more horrors popping up all the way to the end of the year and it is the return of the director that really keeps some things vague with their creepy tales but done so in their tactical marketing done really well as Osgood Perkins is back with a 3rd directed film in less then 2 years with the release of his new horror title of Keeper. The film will follow Liz (Tatiana Maslany) and Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) who for their one year anniversary take a trip to a secluded cabin for the weekend. Liz, Soon left alone after Malcolm suddenly returns to the city, is approached by an evil entity that soon unveils the cabins secrets. Now reception on this new horror is a bit more of a mixed bag overall as while the performances of the main leads are solid and the film does provide a few good unsettling scares, the film feels a little messy in places that could've had more strong potential with better context on the overall narrative, but I am sure it may find some appeal in the near future and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can do so by seeing it in cinemas.
Nuremberg
The next of the releases of this week is one that I see a bit of a what I would call somewhat award season bait as the film in focus will take us back to nearly a century ago in order for us to see the outcome and ordeal of a terrible event in history and the outcome for some of the perpetrators involved as we have the release of the post war Courtroom drama known simply as Nuremberg. The film will tell of the story leading to and the events of the Nuremberg Trails following World War 2 that will see a U.S Army Psychiatrist getting locked in a psychological showdown with accused Nazi War criminal Hermann Goring. Reception on this new war film seems to be modestly recieved with praise on the performances and take on the side of the conflict that is not always often seen as much in these projects based on this part of history and if you want to check it out for yourself the film is also available to check out in cinemas.
Jujitsu Kaisen: Execution
One last film that is coming out this week is taking another dip in the genre of film that with the release of 2 other projects over the last 2 months have proved to be a really successful endeavour and it seems it may be trying for a 3rd take on this matter with another acclaimed anime hitting the big screen as they have released the anime film of Jujutsu Kaisen: Exécution. The film will see a veil abruptly descend across the busy shibuya area amid the bustling Halloween crowds, trapping countless civilians inside. In the aftermath, ten colonies across Japan are transformed into into dens of curses which will see sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu plan to kill Yuji for his perceived crimes in order for this curse to possibly be lifted. Reception to this new anime film seems to also be well recieved with praise on its visuals and narrative and may have some that will appeal to the fans of the Manga itself, though it may not be the most appeal to newcomers that may come away from it all very confused. But if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch this film out now in cinemas in Dubbed or Subbed options.
Tv Shows
Bat Family
As for the one show of this week that we have in focus, its time we talk on an area of media that has been noticeably quiet for a little bit of time as we are talking on a release of a new Superhero media piece as we have some new take on the iconic caped crusader but in this case he is not alone and has the whole family along for the occasion as we have the release of a new series following on from a one off festive special with a new series known as Bat-Fam. The series will focus on a young Damien Wayne, Batman and their close-knit family of misfits as they deal with the challenges of everyday life while protecting the streets of Gotham. Reception on this series so far seems to be very decently well recieved with praise on this more lighter take on the dark Knight as a dad, the fun quirky animation style and something that will appeal to audiences young and old and if you want to see this new take on the character then you can catch this new series out now on Amazon Prime.
Video Games
Call of Duty Black Ops 7
Jumping over to games and its that time of year once more as its time to gear up, get the brief and get the squad together as its time to go above and beyond as its the annual release of the popular FPS series as we have the release of the newest Call of Duty with Black Ops 7. The new game is set in 2035, 10 years after the events of Black Ops 2 and will follow a JSOC unit led by David Mason as they investigate the apparent return of presumed dead terrorist Raul Menendez and the mysterious new group known as the Guild that is using some powerful new weapon that may turn the tide of conflict in the process. Reception on this new take however is quite the mixed array of opinions as while the critic side has been mixed to modest at best, the audiences have been a lot more critical of the title calling it one of the worst titles in the series with issues stemming from the campaign that is all over the place, the fact it is all in Online only mode with no option to pause and change the difficulty and the feeling like a botch job with some pointing to the use of generative AI in their content. Though some seem to appeal to the zombies mode and multiplayer being ok but not overly great and many seeing COD coming to the end of appeal after a bounce back last year, but in all sense if you want to try this title for yourself it is available to play on PS4/5, Xbox One / Series X/S and PC.
Goodnight Universe
If FPS is not your things this week and you are more in the mood for something in the realm of the fantastical and a bit of an indie tone to it all then you may be in luck here as this little infant has some powers unlike you would expect as we have the release of the new game known as Goodnight Universe. In this title you play as a six month Old named Isaac who will discover in some form that he has been gifted with some powerful supernatural abilities that I am sure will be a bit of a difficult thing to master at such a young age. Reception on this title seems to be very well recieved that while the game may have some critiques on the short runtime and the lack of some features on some of the ports of this game, it still seems to be well recieved for its concept, visuals and narrative told in this little adventure itself and if you want to play it for yourself then it is available to play now on Ps5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC.
Anno 117 Pax Romana
As on the last of the games and new releases is providing more of an appeal of those looking for something with a bit more of a strategy approach and possible more in the naval warfare aesthetic then you will be in look as we turn our attention to the mixed appealing studio of Ubisoft (a studio that can appeal to some like myself from some games though the environment of the studios I don't want to praise) as they have released a new entry in this popular series with the release of Anno 117: Pax Romana. The game is set in ancient Rome where you will take the reigns as a Governor where they can decide to rule in the approach of the Roman Empire in Latium, or the Celtic kingdom in Albion, spread either of their cultural influence and choosing between the paths of loyalty or rebellion and on power or Economic Growth. Reception on this entry in the series seems to be similar to the other entries in being well recieved by critics with a bit more of a mixed appeal from audiences with praise to its appealing systems, approaches, gameplay that offers easy access and fair challenge and for the appeal of this series (even if some are saying that the game uses a lot of unmentioned AI assets in the title but I have no idea on that front) and if you want to play this for yourself then you can play it now on PS5, Series X/S and PC.
Trailers that reach the cosmos
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
We start off trailers this week with the first of 2 trailers that give a focus to the video game adaptations we got for the week and this one will be one aiming for the stars and will be blasting off on a planet hopping adventure as after some time and waiting, we were given the first official trailer for the upcoming sequel to the Mario movie with the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The new entry will see Mario and Luigi will join Princess Peach and Toad on an adventure to the far reaches of space and across the galaxy where they face off against Bowser's Son, Bowser Jr, who is trying to save and free his father from being shrunken and imprisoned. So if you have been around this channel when I started over 2 years ago you may recall my first review was for the original movie and I had a lot of praise for that movie for making a damn fine effort with the original with some issues that I hope will be fixed in this new one and from this trailer it looks so visually stunning and I am excited to see what they do with the different galaxies and worlds of the cosmos, not to mention that the unveiling of both Jr and Rosalina as well as their castings of were really great and look amazing and I am very excited to check this film out real soon and its not too far away as the film will be launching itself into cinemas from April 3rd next year.
The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants
Now it is time to ask Are ya Ready Kids for the next trailer (OOOOOOOO) as it is time to head to the bottom of the seas and come on an all new journey with everyone's favourite absorbent Sea Sponge with this all new sea faring adventure as we have the release of the 2nd and possibly final trailer for the newest SpongeBob film with the Search for SquarePants. The film will see SpongeBob looking to prove his bravery to Mr Krabs with the sponge following a mysterious Swashbuckling ghost pirate of The Flying Dutchman on a seafaring adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the Ocean. It is interesting to see how many films and spin offs that this franchise has garnered over the last few years when it was a case it seems to go against the wishes of the original creator, though I feel with this one its more fine in the basis its focused on the original character over his friends but in this case it doesn't look too bad, the 3d animation looks fine and expressive and it has some appeal that I am sure will entertain the young kids and some of the fans of the Sponge in due part but I can see it as being entertaining. I guess we will see what will come of the whole adventure in due time with set for release into cinemas from December 19th.
Marty Supreme
Next in the focus is with a new look at a film that has been garnering a bit of award season buzz across the last few weeks that tells a bit of a more fictionalized story of a real life person that shows that it may be not as big of sports star compared to others but it will prove itself in showing their is more to it then simple skill as we have the release of the new trailer for the title of Marty Supreme. The film will tell the story of Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream that no one really respects, will go to hell and back in the journey of the pursuit of greatness and help to bring the appeal and high scale sport of Ping Pong to the masses of America. I can see in the sense of the appeal that is often seen a lot of the times with Chalamet projects that he seems to put in his all or really try and become one with the character or performance that he strives to play with the projects varying in appeal or interest. This is one that I am sure to me I may give a look at and enjoy but maybe cause its not an overly well known person may help it a bit more but its hard to say at the moment but I guess we'll see by the release of this film in due time as it will be playing its way into cinemas in the US on Christmas Day and then over here on New Years.
Fallout Season 2
The next trailer in focus is our 2nd Game adaptation for the week and it has been seen that in this case we have heard the ideals that War never Changes and if there was a chance to do so seems a little bit unlikely as it seems no matter what it was all rigged from the start, as its time to return back to the ever expanding once again as we have recieved the 2nd and presumed final trailer for the 2nd season of Fallout. Now the new season will follow on from the end of the first and from the tease in the finale will see Lucy and Dogmeat accompany Cooper across the wastelands towards a place known as New Vegas in order for her to discover the truth about her father and of Vault-tec, Cooper to reflect and resolve the scars of his past and in the process will be Maximus preparing himself for war and a growing conflict set to happen. I can really say if anything that had a lot of potential in the world of adaptations being made, Fallout seemed like one that could've worked and it seems in this case that it has worked in their favor heavily as the original was a critical success and similar to the Last of Us garnered a ton of Award recognition and it seems in this case that they are continuing the trend of making it the best they can make it in faithfulness and taking a page out of one of the more popular entries in the series of New Vegas and I am very interested to check this new season out as its not too long away from this either as the new season will be released in about a Months time on Amazon Prime from December 17th.
Wuthering Heights
Next up is a little bit of some steamy romance that with every different adaptation of this novel comes a new approach and take overall and it seems in this case that with this new adaptation, its looking to go a little more wild and presumably more close to a bit more of a modern interpretation then a full blown faithful take, which I guess is expected from the director of this project as we have recieved a new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the novel of Wuthering Heights. The film will be based on the novel and will tell a gothic erotic phycological drama where tragedy will strike when Heathcliff falls in love with Catherine Earnshaw, a woman from a wealthy family in 18th Century England and soon a steamy romance of passion will begin to take shape. Now I have not read this famous novel before and while I can say the likes of making it more of a modern interpretation and more of a steamy love affair can be a bit daunting, I feel it makes sense to give it something that will at least make it different to other takes on the book itself and the likes of seeing some of the discourse of the whole film itself online as something that could appeal overall or maybe question if doing it as a more loose take was worth it or not, but I guess we will have to see how it comes about and if the early test screening opinions are anything to go by up to the release of the film into cinemas from Valentines Day next year.
Cold Storage
Another trailer that is giving us a sense of a dangerous contamination that could spell the end of the world and while the world searches for answers, it may come down to a trio of unlikely characters to save the day as we have recieved a trailer for a new virus based horror comedy known as Cold storage. Based on the novel by David Koepp, the film follow Teacake and Naomi, 2 employees of a self storage facility that was built over a former Military base, whos night shift turns into a Nightmare when a government sealed Parasitic fungus escapes from the underground level which soon leads to the fungus unleashing its mind controlling, body bursting mayhem upon everyone. Soon they team up with a weathered bioterror operative to contain the threat before its leads to the extinction of Humanity. The concept of these films may not be the overly big appeal nature but sometimes a more smaller scale horror comedy can have their appeal and it seems like it could be a fun little decent watch with some appealing leads in Neeson, Keery and Campbell and I am sure it will be well worth to see the appeal in due time when the film releases into cinemas from February 6th next year.
Mini comp trailer chat: Toy Story 5, Devil Wears Prada 2, Monarch Legacy Of Monsters S2
Now this last focus of trailers will technically go against some of my rules when it comes to discussing things where if I was doing it in a video version my rules would be they need to be from official sources and not fake trailers or AI mockups, they have to consist of new footage and not be mostly consisting of old footage from previous films or seasons and the rule in this case being an exception in focus is they need to be a certain length with my minimum length of a trailer being about 70 seconds long, but in the case of these trailers I wanted to talk on them just in the basis of some being exciting projects that I want to acknowledge released and give a brief opinion on so lets delve into those.
News of the vast realm array
a Hodge podge from Animation to Zombies and projects on Trinket fads
Now on the focus to the news for this week, we have a select number of smaller stories that don't have too much to really delve into but all have a mixed of a discussion that varies from release dates and windows to project announcements of some that make sense and some I question why, but lets delve into and see what array of stories this week offered up to us to indulge in the future.
Now for more in the realm of another take on a classic book, we are talking on a new take of a classic childrens novel getting a new take and perspective done as it was reported this week that a new film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is in the works. Now in this case it is not with Disney, but rather this will be developed at Universal and the film will also set to be a musical. It has also seen a case that they already have a planned lead in mind or has been confirmed to be as it was reported that Music Superstar of Sabrina Carpenter is set to play the titular character which I can see work well enough as she has had some known acting appearances and capability and has proven as well that she can sing so it seems like it will work out in some regards. Now I will be interested to see what will come of this take on the classic story and the weird and colourful world that will be created for the film but I am sure we will get an idea of it all in due time and if I hear anything new about all of this and when we may expect this project I will provide it in a later episode.
But what do you make of all of these projects, are you excited for the new Brad Bird Animated affair, will you watch these new projects based on Roger Rabbit, do you think a series based on V for vendetta will work, would you watch another Zombieland film, are you down for another Werewolf by Night project and what are your thoughts on the original, do you see the DC mysteries series being appealing, how well do you see an Alice in Wonderland Musical movie and do you see a labubu film as a good idea or a bad one and do you even know what they are supposed to be? Let me know all about them below and help me to understand some things as well if you do.
Well with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 142nd Edition of Weird Mind News Room and I do hope that you enjoy the rambles once more, Let me know on all that was discussed this week down below and as always, stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode.
Take Care, keep being you signing off.
Sam H :)
