Weird Mind News Room Episode 144: Nov 24th - 30th
*Music for a very Hare-raising adventure*
Hello to all of you wonderful people of all types and what they want to be, My name is Sam and I welcome you back once again to another episode of my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room, where in a bit more of a quieter week (given it is a bit of a national holiday stateside) of the selection of New Releases, Trailers and News Stories that the world of media has to offer. So lets not waste too much time on small pleasantries and lets get to talking on all things media for another week
New Releases that will turn everything upside down
Movies
Zootopia 2
So we are staring off with the first of the small selection of releases for this week with a focus more on something with a massive scale and scope in mind of creatures of all shapes, sizes and looks and a story that is about to see things get a whole lot hairy and some changes to this land may change this society furever as after nearly a decade since the original entry, it is time we return to this anthropomorphic society as we have the release of Disney's new yearly release with Zootopia 2. The new film will be set about a week or 2 after the events of the original and will see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde finding themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile (Key Huy Quan) who has arrived in Zootopia and turns the mammal Metropolis upside down in the process. To crack the case, Judy and Nick will have to go undercover and test the limit of their partnership to solve this mystery across the vast lands of this city and beyond before everything falls into chaos. Reception on this new follow up has seen some very strong positive reception with it being the strongest for Disney in quite some time with praise on the animation, story, characters and themes that the project focuses and tackles on overall and being a worthy follow up to the beloved original and if you want to return to this world for yourself then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.
Christy
For the 2nd and last film for this week is more in the approach of the biographical film and more in the realm where the usual affair is of the caliber of a musician or some over the top thing that happened, this one is going more in the focus of a sports realm aspect with a name you may not overly well know, but the person playing them may be more known lately for some more debatable opinions about them (but we are not getting into that) as we have recieved the release of the true story of a boxing legend known simply as Christy. The film will tell of the story of Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney), known as one of the most successful Female boxer of the 90s and will chronicle her rise in the sport of the 90s as well as the focus about surviving against the attempted murder by her Husband in 2010. Reception on this new Biopic initially was very well received but has seen a bit more of a mixed reception, as while the performance of Sweeney has garnered a lot of praise (for the most part with a bit more mixed opinion of other stars online), the film has seen a fair bit of issues in relation to a mixed outcome in tonal cohesion and emotional impact, but if you want to see the story of a survivor then you can watch this new film also out now in cinemas.
TV Shows
Stranger Things Season 5 Vol.1
As for the last of the new releases and the only focus of the tv shows for this week is the one show that many a fan have been waiting for a very long time to see come about and has been making everyone's world turn uʍop ǝpᴉsdn, as it will be time for one last adventure in the town of Hawkins as after 3 years, many delays and some possible BTS drama we have the release of Vol.1 of the final season of Stranger Things. This final season will see the final battle of Hawkins as the rifts between the Real World and the Upside Down have opened, causing chaos and a Military Quarantine on the town where the gang will unite to fight Vecna who has gone missing since the end of the last season and his plans currently unknown which complicates the mission and will lead to them battling a darkness that looms that is more powerful then ever before. Now reception on this first volume seems to be well recieved like the other seasons by critics with praise on its set up, reveals and other elements that has potential to work into a solid final season compared to other Netflix show swansongs and seems to be an agreement from Audiences as well. As for myself I have watched the full volume and feel personally a little conflicted as things feel a little all over the place for most of this but maybe could find better structure with the latter half but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch vol.1 now on Netflix with the next 3 releasing Christmas Day and the finale on New Years Eve.
The art form of trailers
GOAT
For the first of our 2 trailers is taking us to the realm of animation and from the studio that has been paving the way for a unique mix blend of animation that has inspired many other studios to follow suit but in this case its keeping close to visual tradition with the big film release of this week but more in the sports based world full of humanoid animals but proving that in this case for the big leagues that size doesn't matter and can achieve great things in the process as we have the release of the 2nd trailer for the all new Sony sports based animated film of Goat. This film will focus on an all animal based world and society and will follow Will (Caleb McLaughlin), a small goat with big dreams who gets a once in a lifetime shot to join the pros and play Roarball - a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world. His new teammates aren't thrilled about having a little goat on their roster, but Will is determined to revolutionize the sport and prove once and for all that "smalls can ball". So I've mentioned before in passing but the likes of my interest in sports is kind of indifferent as I could not care too much about much sports in general. I can do with the likes of films that have some elements of sports in focus and this is one that seems to appeal to me in some form, mainly in the realms of having some interest to it in animated style and feeling like it could have some appeal and potential in some entertainment. I will say this does look like it could have some fun entertainment from it and be well worth the time and effort put into the project from the animation side and could surprise me a lot more then I expected but I am sure we can see how this all comes about in due time as the film will be playing ball when it releases into cinemas from February 13th next year.
How to make a Killing
As for the 2nd and final trailer for this week, we are moving from Animation to the acclaimed studio of A24 for something with a bit more class, style and presumed bloodshed as it would question if you were a lost descendant or outcast of a very powerful and rich family lineage, It would bring to question how someone would go about to get back into their graces or take all the wealth and fortune for themselves, which seems to be the case of what this film is setting out to do as we have the release of the trailer for the new film of How to make a Killing. The film will follow Becket Redfellow who was disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, and when he learns of their fortune amount, he will soon stop at nothing to reclaim the inheritance all to himself, no matter how many relatives get in his way. It really seems in all forms that they are really giving Glen Powell a fair amount of screen presence as a leading man and I can see this being something that he can work off well enough in performance and tone, with this nearly feeling a bit close to one of his more recent and popular films of Hit Man that came out a year ago, but from the look of the project, it has some appeal and potential and I am sure it may be well worth a watch and could be another hit for the studio of A24 who have had a bit of a mixed bag this year but I am sure we can see how it all turns out when this film releases into cinemas from February 20th next year.
News for many a discussion
Franchise casting, Projects lasting and reports of other ideals
So in the focus of our news stories of the week, it is mainly in the focus of a selection of some mixed assortment of stories from reported castings, announcements, a delay or two and some reported rumours also floating about all from the discussions that this week has provided to be brought together to give a focus of discussion to, so lets delve into the discussions.
But speaking of Show renewals but with more questionability, remember that show that released earlier this Month known as All's Fair? Yeah, despite the series garnering one of the worst receptions of recent memory, like Velma its got a confirmation that its renewed for a 2nd season and I question Why? Likely case is the producers of this series (specifically the Kardashian names as producers) have paid money to make it happen and probably give more of a resume to Kim's "Acting" and allow her to play a pretend lawyer for a bit more time cause I don't think she's passing that bar exam anytime soon (or from the recent diagnosis that most people have been saying for years). Will this turn around in improvement, I can't tell but I guess we'll see what will come of this mess for a season 2.
Then from animation to adaptation, we are talking now on another project that has seen its fair focus of announcements a while ago but has since gone a bit quiet for a fair bit of time, but that all changed this week as we have been given our first big news relating to the new Netflix series based on the popular video game series of Assassins Creed as we have been given the first official casting for the series with it confirmed this week that actor Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders) will be portraying the lead of this series. Now in this case I am unsure if he will be portraying the main assassin of the set time period they will focus on (which I am hearing from rumours is going to the most used location of the series with Ancient Rome) or if it will be a bit like Desmond Miles and he is the one plugged into the Animus but I am sure we will get more of an idea as to what setting and placement he will be a part of in due time. Now at the moment it is only early days and I am sure we will start to see more casting for this series as well as to when we will be able to see what they will make of this series and if there is any new updates I will provide them in a later episode.
But with all of that, what do you think of all of these stories, When do you expect to see Daredevil be released now, why do you think all's Fair was renewed, would you be down for a 3rd Amazing Spider-Man, Do you think Anna Kendrick is a great choice for Amy in the Sonic film or who would you cast instead, Would you be interested in a more darker Little Mermaid story, Are you excited for Scar Jo to appear in the new Exorcist film, do you think the choices for voicing Shrek's children as being solid or who would you have chosen, What time setting will Toby Wallace portray the new assassin, would you be down for a Far Cry tv series and do you see a 4th Rush Hour work? Let me know what you think of all of this down below in the comments and we can discuss about it all there.
And with all of that, this ends the 144th edition of Weird Mind News Room series and I hope you enjoy the always continous ramblings of a man with questionable emotional state but loves to ramble on media. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next Episode :)
Take care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
