Weird Mind News Room Episode 144: Nov 24th - 30th

*Music for a very Hare-raising adventure*

Hello to all of you wonderful people of all types and what they want to be, My name is Sam and I welcome you back once again to another episode of my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room, where in a bit more of a quieter week (given it is a bit of a national holiday stateside) of the selection of New Releases, Trailers and News Stories that the world of media has to offer. So lets not waste too much time on small pleasantries and lets get to talking on all things media for another week

New Releases that will turn everything upside down

Movies
Zootopia 2
So we are staring off with the first of the small selection of releases for this week with a focus more on something with a massive scale and scope in mind of creatures of all shapes, sizes and looks and a story that is about to see things get a whole lot hairy and some changes to this land may change this society furever as after nearly a decade since the original entry, it is time we return to this anthropomorphic society as we have the release of Disney's new yearly release with Zootopia 2.  The new film will be set about a week or 2 after the events of the original and will see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde finding themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile (Key Huy Quan) who has arrived in Zootopia and turns the mammal Metropolis upside down in the process. To crack the case, Judy and Nick will have to go undercover and test the limit of their partnership to solve this mystery across the vast lands of this city and beyond before everything falls into chaos. Reception on this new follow up has seen some very strong positive reception with it being the strongest for Disney in quite some time with praise on the animation, story, characters and themes that the project focuses and tackles on overall and being a worthy follow up to the beloved original and if you want to return to this world for yourself then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.

Christy
For the 2nd and last film for this week is more in the approach of the biographical film and more in the realm where the usual affair is of the caliber of a musician or some over the top thing that happened, this one is going more in the focus of a sports realm aspect with a name you may not overly well know, but the person playing them may be more known lately for some more debatable opinions about them (but we are not getting into that) as we have recieved the release of the true story of a boxing legend known simply as Christy. The film will tell of the story of Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney), known as one of the most successful Female boxer of the 90s and will chronicle her rise in the sport of the 90s as well as the focus about surviving against the attempted murder by her Husband in 2010. Reception on this new Biopic initially was very well received but has seen a bit more of a mixed reception, as while the performance of Sweeney has garnered a lot of praise (for the most part with a bit more mixed opinion of other stars online), the film has seen a fair bit of issues in relation to a mixed outcome in tonal cohesion and emotional impact, but if you want to see the story of a survivor then you can watch this new film also out now in cinemas.

TV Shows
Stranger Things Season 5 Vol.1

As for the last of the new releases and the only focus of the tv shows for this week is the one show that many a fan have been waiting for a very long time to see come about and has been making everyone's world turn uʍop ǝpᴉsdn, as it will be time for one last adventure in the town of Hawkins as after 3 years, many delays and some possible BTS drama we have the release of Vol.1 of the final season of Stranger Things. This final season will see the final battle of Hawkins as the rifts between the Real World and the Upside Down have opened, causing chaos and a Military Quarantine on the town where the gang will unite to fight Vecna who has gone missing since the end of the last season and his plans currently unknown which complicates the mission and will lead to them battling a darkness that looms that is more powerful then ever before. Now reception on this first volume seems to be well recieved like the other seasons by critics with praise on its set up, reveals and other elements that has potential to work into a solid final season compared to other Netflix show swansongs and seems to be an agreement from Audiences as well. As for myself I have watched the full volume and feel personally a little conflicted as things feel a little all over the place for most of this but maybe could find better structure with the latter half but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch vol.1 now on Netflix with the next 3 releasing Christmas Day and the finale on New Years Eve.

The art form of trailers

GOAT
For the first of our 2 trailers is taking us to the realm of animation and from the studio that has been paving the way for a unique mix blend of animation that has inspired many other studios to follow suit but in this case its keeping close to visual tradition with the big film release of this week but more in the sports based world full of humanoid animals but proving that in this case for the big leagues that size doesn't matter and can achieve great things in the process as we have the release of the 2nd trailer for the all new Sony sports based animated film of Goat. This film will focus on an all animal based world and society and will follow Will (Caleb McLaughlin), a small goat with big dreams who gets a once in a lifetime shot to join the pros and play Roarball - a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world. His new teammates aren't thrilled about having a little goat on their roster, but Will is determined to revolutionize the sport and prove once and for all that "smalls can ball". So I've mentioned before in passing but the likes of my interest in sports is kind of indifferent as I could not care too much about much sports in general. I can do with the likes of films that have some elements of sports in focus and this is one that seems to appeal to me in some form, mainly in the realms of having some interest to it in animated style and feeling like it could have some appeal and potential in some entertainment. I will say this does look like it could have some fun entertainment from it and be well worth the time and effort put into the project from the animation side and could surprise me a lot more then I expected but I am sure we can see how this all comes about in due time as the film will be playing ball when it releases into cinemas from February 13th next year.

How to make a Killing
As for the 2nd and final trailer for this week, we are moving from Animation to the acclaimed studio of A24 for something with a bit more class, style and presumed bloodshed as it would question if you were a lost descendant or outcast of a very powerful and rich family lineage, It would bring to question how someone would go about to get back into their graces or take all the wealth and fortune for themselves, which seems to be the case of what this film is setting out to do as we have the release of the trailer for the new film of How to make a Killing. The film will follow Becket Redfellow who was disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, and when he learns of their fortune amount, he will soon stop at nothing to reclaim the inheritance all to himself, no matter how many relatives get in his way. It really seems in all forms that they are really giving Glen Powell a fair amount of screen presence as a leading man and I can see this being something that he can work off well enough in performance and tone, with this nearly feeling a bit close to one of his more recent and popular films of Hit Man that came out a year ago, but from the look of the project, it has some appeal and potential and I am sure it may be well worth a watch and could be another hit for the studio of A24 who have had a bit of a mixed bag this year but I am sure we can see how it all turns out when this film releases into cinemas from February 20th next year.

News for many a discussion

Franchise casting, Projects lasting and reports of other ideals

So in the focus of our news stories of the week, it is mainly in the focus of a selection of some mixed assortment of stories from reported castings, announcements, a delay or two and some reported rumours also floating about all from the discussions that this week has provided to be brought together to give a focus of discussion to, so lets delve into the discussions.

So we'll start with the only story that is in a focus of some date change as earlier this week, it was reported that the 2nd season of Daredevil Born Again is supposedly no longer releasing on the 4th of March next year and the date has not been set as to when this new season is expected. Now its a case I am unsure if it was confirmed from the beginning if this Season 2 release date was set in stone of releasing exactly 1 year after Season 1, but I am sure if it was and has seen this delay that their is some reasons for it, with one in focus to it all being with the other Marvel show releasing early next year of Wonder Man as the release schedule I have no idea on what the approach is and if its a weekly thing but I am sure we can get an idea of that when it comes around in 2 months. Another aspect could be the usual aspect of making sure that visuals, production and everything is solid so it keeps the tone well and has people that were a bit more hesitant about this season to come back to it and feel like the original Netflix series and the usual element of some reshoots that are given to every Marvel project but it is unclear of what may be the cause. Now at the moment they have not set a new date yet but I doubt it will be too overly long after its initial date but if anything does come up I will provide in a later episode.

But speaking of Show renewals but with more questionability, remember that show that released earlier this Month known as All's Fair? Yeah, despite the series garnering one of the worst receptions of recent memory, like Velma its got a confirmation that its renewed for a 2nd season and I question Why? Likely case is the producers of this series (specifically the Kardashian names as producers) have paid money to make it happen and probably give more of a resume to Kim's "Acting" and allow her to play a pretend lawyer for a bit more time cause I don't think she's passing that bar exam anytime soon (or from the recent diagnosis that most people have been saying for years). Will this turn around in improvement, I can't tell but I guess we'll see what will come of this mess for a season 2.

So we are moving to rumours first before we get to new projects and castings and this first one seems to pop up in discussion here and there over the last few years but some new reports have come up about a certain Wallcrawler as according to some rumours, it has been discussed that a possible 3rd Amazing Spiderman movie may actually be made after all and will possibly see Andrew Garfield return for his own trilogy conclusion. Personally while this is still a reported rumour, I think he is well due to get his trilogy as the other 2 Spider-Men have both gotten their own trilogy and I think it is well worth a chance to get his love and appreciation again after all of this time. Now as I also mentioned, this is just a rumour right now and nothing has been made official but if anything does come about for this project, I will also provide it in a later episode.

Now going from a project rumour to a casting rumour, we are talking on the likes of a video game adaptation and more specifically the casting of the next addition of colourful characters in the 4th Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Now if you recall if you have watched the last film and stayed for the credits scene, then you may know that the new film is planning to use and unveil the use of 2 new characters for this next entry which is with Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, and it is with the focus of Amy that is the discussion for this story as there has been some reports of a possible casting of the character with the actress rumoured to be voicing Amy is with Anna Kendrick. Now there is no confirmed source on this and most of my information is going off of the rumoured aspect that most of the cast and director of the Sonic films recently followed Kendrick on social media and has been a case that sometimes with these following on socials usually has some sense of it coming about in working out in peoples favors and in all sense if this is confirmed I would not complain on her voicing this character and would have her or Kimiko Glenn to voice them. Now as I mentioned this is all rumours and not reliable sources but if there is any update on this I will provide it in a later episode.
Connecting slightly to that last rumour with this next story as they are looking for a certain type actress to this for that character role, there has been some discussions with another actress of wanting to make some proper adaptation of a classic fairytale story as it was reported earlier this week that Actress Anya Taylor Joy has expressed interest in wanting to make and star in a proper take on the classic story of the Little Mermaid, one that is less Disney approach and more in the realm of the original story by Hans Christian Anderson which is a lot more of a darker take. Personally I can see it work and I can see her do well in that role if this was ever to be made and in the case of this the only way I feel it would make something this elaborate and visually striking would be with a well intrusted visionary in mind to create it, which I can see from either Robert Eggers or Guillermo Del Toro to create this vision as we have had a lot of more family friendly versions of this story and I feel its time we get a bit more of a faithful and darker adaptation. Again as I have mentioned, this is all just in the realm of speculation and interest and rumours and not confirmed yet but it can be a case that if this goes ahead and any change comes about, I will provide it in a later episode.

Now from Rumoured stories to official concepts, we start onto more casting lists and in this next instance we are getting a little more spooky this time around as we are talking on another trip to a new take on a classic horror story as we have a focus to the new interpretation on the franchise of the Exorcist. Now this will not be the next part of the Believer film series as that one crashed and burned after one part, but rather this will be a new fresh take on the franchise from Horror auteur Mike Flanagan and it seems we have already garnered a new cast addition as it was announced this week that Scarlett Johansson will be the first casted for this new film. It really seems she is joining a lot of franchises or projects lately after her time in the MCU she has joined the Jurassic series, with talks of a sequel to Rebirth, a possible stint in Disney Live Action and now for some horror, which I will see in curious nature as to what she will bring to a film or series like this in general. Now at the moment we have no idea as to when we may see this new take on the original novel but I am sure if there is any news about it all I will provide it in a later episode.

But now from Horror to animation (though some will say from the slightly tweaked redesigns, its close to staying in horror, though they did do an exorcist short story parody) as we have some more new news about everyone's favourite Green Ogre of Shrek as we have the announcement of 2 more new cast members joining the upcoming 5th film of the series. Now this is not for any new additional fairy tale characters, but rather it is to do with characters already seen in the series already and that is the casting of the other 2 kids of Shrek and Fiona of Fergus and Farkle, as it was announced on Thursday that Farkle will be voiced by Skyler Gisondo, who you may know as Jimmy Olsen from this years Superman and Fergus will be portrayed by Marcello Hernandez who you may known as an SNL cast member or the character he portrayed on that show of Domingo. This is quite the choice casting of characters but in all fairness I will take it over the usual castings for roles like this in these projects and going off the first tease of what they look like from a Macy's Parade balloon, I can see it will fit the look. Now I will say it will be a little bit before we see these giving their lines as the characters or the official look in motion or how they will fit into the narrative this time around, but I am certain we will get a clear idea before this films release in late June 2027.

Then from animation to adaptation, we are talking now on another project that has seen its fair focus of announcements a while ago but has since gone a bit quiet for a fair bit of time, but that all changed this week as we have been given our first big news relating to the new Netflix series based on the popular video game series of Assassins Creed as we have been given the first official casting for the series with it confirmed this week that actor Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders) will be portraying the lead of this series. Now in this case I am unsure if he will be portraying the main assassin of the set time period they will focus on (which I am hearing from rumours is going to the most used location of the series with Ancient Rome) or if it will be a bit like Desmond Miles and he is the one plugged into the Animus but I am sure we will get more of an idea as to what setting and placement he will be a part of in due time. Now at the moment it is only early days and I am sure we will start to see more casting for this series as well as to when we will be able to see what they will make of this series and if there is any new updates I will provide them in a later episode.

Now from casting to new project announcements, we are staying with adaptations of games and also staying with the same studio developer as it looks like another popular series from this studio is getting the tv show treatment as it was announced this week that a new series based on the Far Cry franchise is coming to FX and will be helmed and developed by Alien Earth creator Noah Hawley and from Always Sunny Creator Rob McElhenney. Now of course like Assassins Creed, this is not the first time that the series has been made into an adaptation as least we forget Uwe Boll made a film version that tried to tie into the original entry of the series back in the late 2000s but it will be interesting to see if this series will be going the approach of a new season of characters and locations with them following the games narratives or if they will be doing a new storyline for each with unique and eccentric villains for each season but I guess we will see how it comes about as it develops. Now similar to Assassins Creed, all of this is early days, but once I hear more about this project I will provide it in a later episode.

Now this last one I didn't want to talk on as it has some connection to the world of Politics, but given the project that is supposedly coming from it, I will make the exception and tiptoe around the nonsense as it was supposedly announced this week that we may be getting a 4th entry in the Rush Hour series and will be seeing the original duo and director supposedly all back for another round, with the push for this being made is from the annoying Orange Man that "Runs" the US. Now this is where I question if this will have some appeal or if this set up for Disaster, as while yes Jackie Chan is a legend, he's not the young man that he once was in the original trilogy, Chris Tucker has been quiet in the media scene with his last appearance being the 2023 film Air (and maybe due to his connection in a certain array of files) and then the director of Brett Ratner has been seen as a disgraced person after multiple assault allegations back in 2017 so this feels like a disaster in the mix and makes sense in the director for the man that pushed for this to be made with them have some things that are alike. Its hard to tell if it will have the appeal of the likes that Bad Boys and Beverly Hills Cop had but I am sure we will see what will come of it in due time and if there is anything that comes up about this or when to expect it I will provide it in a later episode.

But with all of that, what do you think of all of these stories, When do you expect to see Daredevil be released now, why do you think all's Fair was renewed, would you be down for a 3rd Amazing Spider-Man, Do you think Anna Kendrick is a great choice for Amy in the Sonic film or who would you cast instead, Would you be interested in a more darker Little Mermaid story, Are you excited for Scar Jo to appear in the new Exorcist film, do you think the choices for voicing Shrek's children as being solid or who would you have chosen, What time setting will Toby Wallace portray the new assassin, would you be down for a Far Cry tv series and do you see a 4th Rush Hour work? Let me know what you think of all of this down below in the comments and we can discuss about it all there.

And with all of that, this ends the 144th edition of Weird Mind News Room series and I hope you enjoy the always continous ramblings of a man with questionable emotional state but loves to ramble on media. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next Episode :)

Take care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
