Weird Mind News Room Episode 156 Feb 16th - 22nd

*Music to take out of Cold Storage

Well hello, hello hello to all of you fine ass people once more, my name is Sam and I welcome you to the newest episode of Weird Mind News Room where for another week, we will be back to talk on the array of New Releases, Trailers and News that this week has to offer, so lets not waste time on intros standing around and lets get to talking on all things media for another week.

What's the time..... New Release Time

Movies
Cold Storage
On the first of the new releases for this week, we give a focus to the concept that we have all had these jobs that may seem like the simple and mundane type of ordeal and hope that maybe something exciting may come from this location, but it seems what looks like the most simple of jobs will have some world threatening consequences hidden below as we have the release of the new horror comedy based on a novel with the release of Cold Storage. Based on the novel by David Koepp, the film follow Teacake and Naomi, 2 employees of a self storage facility that was built over a former Military base, whos night shift turns into a Nightmare when a government sealed Parasitic fungus escapes from the underground level which soon leads to the fungus unleashing its mind controlling, body bursting mayhem upon everyone. Soon they team up with a weathered bioterror operative to contain the threat before its leads to the extinction of Humanity. Reception on this new film seems to be well recieved with praise on the performances of the three leads of Cambell, Keery and Neeson and for having an appeal and humour of a classic B-Movie style horror story with a fair bit of decent humour and if you want to see what was contained, you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die
The next film for this week is giving us more of the focus to the world where it seems so many people are a bit oblivious to the feature and concept that has been taken over many lives and destroying the planet and that is with the function of AI and many would want to see it be taken down a peg and restore humanity back to how it once was, well that seems to be what director Gore Verbinski is trying to achieve here as he is back to bring us an all new sci-fi horror comedy with Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. The film will tell of a Man (Sam Rockwell) who has come from the future, who holds an LA diner hostages in order to find and locate heroes to help him find and stop a powerful AI from causing a bad future full of controlling power of tech by any means necessary. Reception on this new film seems to be very well recieved with praise on the performances (with Rockwell receiving the strongest), its humor, visuals and narrative about the themes and dangers of tech and AI and if you want to join the cause against the bad future, then you can catch this new film also out now in cinemas

The Moment
For the next of the films is somewhat of a concept that comes few and far between and is probably one of 2 that will come of this year (the other I have no idea on the date of over here yet) but we have the bit of the mocumentary documentary type of project and it relates to an artist who was all over a recent divisive films soundtrack but we are focusing on their planning of a full fledged concert tour as its time for the focus of the madcap tour for one Charli XCX with the release of the Mockumentary of The Moment. The film will follow Charli as she prepares to plan out her debut Arena tour while having to continue the promotion of her successful Brat album and must find a way to deal with the mounting pressure of the record label with her breakout Summer and make sure this new arena tour will go off without a hitch or any dangerous outcomes. Reception on this new Mocumentary seems to be a little mixed to modest as while the concept of the insight and original idea by the musician is well liked, some feel it may be a bit lacking for those that are unfamiliar to her work or not going all out in craziness compared to some other mockumentaries on real or fictional musicians, but if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch this out now as well in cinemas.

The Secret Agent
For the next film of this week we are going a little more international with this project in focus and in this case we are delving back into another award season contender as it looks like we have a job and mission in mind to partake in as we have the release of the all new award nominated film of The Secret Agent. Set in the late 70, the plot follow Armondo (Wagner Moura), a tech teacher who moves from Sao Paulo to Recife during Carnival to escape his violent past and to start over but will soon discover the city is full of chaos, secrets and of his neighbours begin to spy on him. Reception on this new film has seen some strong critical acclaim with praise on its narrative, performances, character development and being seen as one of last years and this years best films, and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can check it out now in cinemas.

Whistle
For the last of the horror films of this week (technically it came out last week but I forgot about it), this one will be given the case that it really seems to be that any form of material item that can be seen as deadly or as a concern but in some case if there is an item that looks like a possibly cursed item, then likely it is one as its time to make a noise and suffer the consequences as we have the release of the new horror of Whistle. A sense of terror and unease will follow a group of High School Misfits when they discover an ancient death whistle that I am for certain will have some sense of unforseen circumstances. Reception on this film seems to also be mixed with praise on its concept of the item and of some of the deaths and curse, the film is however your usual run of the mills horror project that you may have seen before and had potential for more and if you want to avoid the curse or learn of what it contains then you can catch this new film out now in cinemas.

Wasteman
For the last of the films for this week, we are getting a bit more of a drama from this side of the world (with a little added crossing of the pond) of showing more of the life inside the facility and the changing of people put behind bars as we have the release of the new film from the UK known as Wasteman. The film follows parolee Taylor whos fresh start hopes are soon jeopardized by the arrival of his cellmate Dee. As Dee takes him under his wing, a vicious attack soon tests their bond, forcing taylor to choose between protecting Dee and his own parole chances. Reception on this new drama is very well recieved with praise on the take on the inside of the prison system and from the 2 leads and their development across the films runtime and if you want to see a new take and look on the inside then you can catch this film out now in cinemas.

Video Games
Poppy Playtime Chapter 5: Broken things
For the last of the releases for this week and the only game title that I have a focus to look upon, it is time we return to a facility that looks like it was a modest size at first glance, but as you go deeper and deeper, the more elaborate it becomes and the more secrets hidden to the world are revealed, as its time we grab our grabpacks and prepare to hopefully face off against the cause of all these horrors as we have the release of the 5th Chapter to the horror title of Poppy Playtime Chapter 5 Broken Things. In this new chapter, you will be propelled further into the gruesome depths of the factory, with playtimes security of Huggy Wuggy in hot pursuit. Abandoned by your only allies, your fight for survival gets all the more challenging as you plunge deeper into the depths that is his domain where shadows whisper and the puppet master who lords over this realm pulls the strings to all of this madness and brings the question if you can stand against this evil and put an end to this whole nightmare. Reception on this 5th chapter seems to be very well recieved by players online who praise it for its lore and storytelling and being a more functional improvement over chapter 4, though there is some streamers, players and users that are a little more mixed or underwhelmed by the title with issues stemming from the repetitive gameplay, character designs and usage and some feeling they are dragging it out a little too much, but if you want to make your own judgement on this title, the new chapter is available to play now on PC with the console version releasing sometime soon.

Trailers for your assignment

The Mandalorian and Grogu
So moving to trailers and it is time to head to a galaxy far far away for the first one and in the focus to where we have seen the likes of space wizards and the sense of a legacy and the sides of good and evil, we are more focused in this instance with a man known for legend and living by a code of fellow hunters and of his small precious cargo with some special powerful abilities who will travel the galaxy to take that all that is evil as we have the release of the newest trailer for the upcoming newest film in the Star Wars Universe with a new look at The Mandalorian and Grogu. The film will follow on from the events of Season 3's conclusion with the New Republic enlisting Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu to take on a job following the fall of the Galactic Empire, and take down some of the remaining Imperial Warlords that still threaten the galaxy. Now the likes of this series in particular to me has been one that I can see both the ups and downs, but mainly in the realm of this series I have enjoyed my time with it all from the grounded first season, the cameo filled but still entertaining 2nd season and then the 3rd season may be a little hit or miss in its narrative and other elements I have still enjoyed some amount of it and I have some faith that this could help fix some of the elements that were a little off from the previous season and provide that appeal back to it all once more and personally I am excited for it as I feel it could be one big adventure for these 2 and hopefully doesn't feel like an overlong or overstuffed episode of the show but I guess we will have to see of the outcome when the film comes its way into cinemas from the 22nd of May.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy
For the one Horror title for this week, we have our share of returning to the realm of the classic Hollywood movie monster where we have seen a variation of different monsters over the years from Dracula, Frankenstein, the bride, the wolfman and Weinstein, but in this case we will be given a focus to another famous movie monster that has had its sense of take in the film scene all wrapped up in many ways as Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin is back to bring us an all new trailer for his new take on the Mummy. The film sees the sudden disappearance of the youngest daughter of a Journalist somewhere in the far reaches of the desert without a trace, but suddenly the shattered family is stunned when she reappears eight years later. However what should've been a joyful family reunion turns into a true and horrifying nightmare. I feel if there is anything we are really heading back more into the focus of the movie monster as of late, especially with the Mummy as of course we have the classic Brendan Fraser entries, then the disaster that was the 2017 one with Tom Cruise that turns more into an action flick by his control, but we have seen a fair bit of other monsters as of late and on the way too and I feel with this one is giving us more of a look to it all compared to the first teaser that was more in the cryptic tease but the ideal of it being more of a possessed child already creeps me out and I have faith after his evil dead rise (even if the studios are a little more uncertain about this project and pushed for the 4th Fraser Mummy film) may be a well worth scare but I guess we will see when it rises from the tomb on April 17th.

Peaky Blinders The Immortal Man
For the only Streaming based film for this week we are heading back to the past and seeing the continuing story of a beloved recent series getting a bit of a continuation of where the original story ended and in that time we will ask of the question of the series conclusion with one focus being what happened to Thomas Shelby? Well it looks like we may get that answer as we have the release of the official trailer for the upcoming sequel film for Peaky Blinders with the Immortal Man. Taking place 7 years after the end of the original series, it sees Tommy Shelby driven back from a self imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of his family and country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. It is a case that personally I have not seen a lot of this series but have seen some bits of it but I will say with anything that from what I have seen over the last few years or so is that this show is proper solid and I will get to the full series in due time but I can see that the tone and appeal still seems to be there for this upcoming film and while I am unsure if this is the ending of the series or the reports of another season after this is still a thing but I guess we will find out in due time, but I am sure I will give this a proper look in due time and this is not too long away either as the film will be getting a limited cinema release from March 6th before it drops fully onto Netflix from the 20th of the same month.

House of the Dragon Season 3
As for our only tv series focus for this week, while we have been given plenty of focus to this world in recent weeks about a tall knight and his little squire companion (and the whole dumb conflict online between them and Breaking Bad fans of them review bombing each others shows (personally both shows are great and it seemed that the whole thing started by the BB side but I may be wrong here but will look into it and people need to get a life and gives some sense of competition that you can still make better overtime) but in this case we are heading further back in the timeline once again to where we will see the age of the strong rule of a certain family but in all of this chaos the banners are beginning to burn and the fire and blood continues to boil as its time we head back to this conflict again as we have the release of the first teaser for the 3rd season of the Game of Thrones Spin off of House of the Dragon. This new season will follow on from the end of the 2nd season and will see the growing conflict between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen as the war and conflict enters a new phase of the growing internal war with the affects of Dragons, armies, and political decisions will soon shape the future of Westeros. Now to say the case about this series in particular, I can definitely say that the original season had a lot riding on itself after the outcome to the end of the original series and it proved its worth and there was a lot of appeal going into the 2nd season. Now the follow up was kind of underwhelming in some regards as there was not a lot really going on and felt it was all just build up to what I hope is a better season, but it did have some great cinematography shots and moments and battles when it does. I do have a worry that the current reports that the showrunner and the author of this series have been at conflict since the 2nd season may be of concern but hopefully they will spearhead the series in the right direction for these last 2 seasons and that the opening or big season battle is adapted well from the book but I guess we will see in due time. While we have not official release date as of yet, we know that this series will be flying in onto HBO sometime in June but we will see of an official date.

Toy Story 5
For the final trailer for this week and the only animated focused ordeal is seeing us return back to the world of the toybox and meeting up with a selection of old pals but very familiar to many of us for when we were younger, but in this instance it seems to be the concern of a looming threat that could see their sense of playtime about to come to an end and change forever, as after a bit of a wait, we have finally been given our full first official look at the upcoming animated film from Pixar with Toy Story 5. This will follow on from the events of the last film with Woody having left Bonnie to help abandoned toys find new owners with Bo and has made Jessie the leader of the toys with Buzz as her second-in-command. But soon the age of the Toys may be coming to an end as Bonnie has now become enamored of her new favourite plaything of a Frog-like tablet named Lilypad. Now it is a case that I can say the likes of the overabundance of this series is one that I can say if its going a bit overlong as sure these films are classics, the first 3 are seen as one of the best Trilogies of all time and there is a sense (like myself) that also sees the likes of the 4th film being really great as well, but there is a bit where I wonder what else can they really give a focus to with this series without feeling like its just adding more unnecessary entries, but it always has a way to turn it around and make it appealing and the whole toys against tech thing felt like the way to go with this series and personally would be a proper place to end it on (and not have the push of the reports they plan to make even more of these entries) but its a case I love this studio and I am more invested in this follow up now after seeing this trailer (though I was already excited for it) and its not too long from release either as the battle of tech and toys will be released into cinemas from June 19th.

News to be in the moment

the healthy serving of a hodge podge of releases and castings
Now for a more quieter week in terms of news and its the case that their is a bit of a theme with this weeks hodge podge roundup as its mainly of 2 areas in focus and that is with some casting additions, a possible new project announcement and some focus of rumoured and confirmed release dates and changes to some upcoming projects that will have some appeal to some in many different areas and focus, but lets not dwell here on speculation and lets get into talking on supposed facts from stories from this week you may have missed.
So we will start off on the side of the casting additions and this first one is with a project that I forgot I mentioned about a little while ago was in the process of working but on the likes of the choice has given me a few thoughts as we have gotten the first of the choices for the planned new Scooby Doo live action series that is being made by Netflix and we seem to possibly have our first confirmed star for the project and that is with Ghostbuster Afterlife and FNAF 2 actress Mckenna Grace has been cast in the role of a younger Daphne. Now it is the case that she has already portrayed the character before in that 2020 Scoob! film in the opening part of the film (as well as the case of dressing as the character for Halloween) so she has had some experience with the series. Now this is where I would be a little different some others opinion on this casting as to me in some form, I feel to me personally if it were all new unknowns that had a look and tone to the characters I would be more inclined to the casting, but I feel it will probably be just an array of more known actors and actresses in the role itself. If there is a case of anything now for this point I would hope for a balance of some familiar and some unknowns for the main group of mystery solving teens and their dog (and in some form I would not have much of an issue if the likes of the cast of the original live action films make cameos in the show) and that it will turn out well in the process..... and also avoid it being a massive disaster like that god awful Velma show (which I will get to a season 2 review for it as I know that show is over and once I do it I won't have to think on it anymore). As of now this is the only casting for this series at the moment and no word on any other editions of the series but once I hear anything new I will provide it in a later episode.

As for the 2nd casting story of this week, this one is more in the realm of the voice work and in this case we are talking on a new video game adaption as we are once again talking about that fast blue Hedgehog of Sonic with the upcoming 4th film in this franchise. Now we have seen a fair share of characters from this series appear over the films so far including the dynamic between the blue blur and Eggman, his companions of Tails and Knuckles in the sequel, the echidna tribe in the Knuckles tv series and of course the ultimate life form of Shadow in the 3rd movie, but we do know who is next going off of the mid credits tease which will see an appearance of Metal Sonic (and a whole army of them) and the next addition to the growing group is of course with Amy Rose and it has been a debate as to who it would be portraying the character in the franchise. Well that all changed as on Wednesday this week, as it was officially announced that actress Kristen Bell will be voicing the Pink hammer wielding hedgehog for this 4th entry. Now initially I was thinking that the person that was set to voice her was with Anna Kendrick which was a story and rumour I discussed about in an earlier episode, or even the case if I had to choose I would say her or even Kimiko Glenn (Into the Spider-verse, Hazbin Hotel) for the role, but in all sense of things, this is a casting I do not have an issue with this one as she has done some voice work in the past, with most of you familiar to her as the voice of Anna in Frozen so I see no issue with this one. I say for those other 2 I can see them as other characters in the series such as Cream the Rabbit, Blaze the Cat, Rouge the bat or many other options but I guess we will see as this series goes on. Now currently the only one left to be cast in the role of voice is Metal Sonic, unless Schwartz voices him but I am sure we will get an idea of his casting by the film release next March (even though I remember seeing it was delayed to Christmas) but if there is anything I will provide it in a later episode.

Now for the only focused case of some discussion of animated affair and speaking of the realm of the Spider-verse, we are taking a visit over to Sony animation for some news in the relation to superheroes and those characters of the wall crawler himself. Now over the course of the last few years we have seen variations of characters from his rogues gallery from Morbius, Kraven, Madame Web and of course the most successful in the form of the Symbiote Venom who had a string of a trilogy that may not have been the most well recieved but they did make some modest pull at the box office with Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock taking on this weird but somewhat entertaining bromance between him and the alien symbiote and from how the trilogy ended it looked like it was the end of that saga. Well that was before some news dropped on Friday that we may be seeing a return of this character but this time in the form of a fully animated film project instead as it was confirmed in the works and will have Tom Hardy in involved in some form as an executive producer on the project. Personally I would not say no to this approach as it has proven that the animated film of Spidey have proven a success and I am sure an animated take on this popular character could work and will be done in development alongside those other planned films like the spin-offs focused on Spider-Gwen, Spider-Punk, the Spider-Women (I think is still happening) and of course the conclusion with Beyond for the trilogy but I feel it could work to see how they would tackle an animated version of this character. Now as things stand all that has been given is an announcement of the project but I am sure if there is any updates on whos helming the project or when we can expect it is told, I will provide it in a later episode.

Now from castings and announcements to the focus of release dates and the first one is more in the realm of the rumoured side but also the confirmed side of things (if that makes sense) as we have the confirmation of a possible release for a new adaption on a classic horror tale where one simple mishap will lead to the demise of many as it was announced that the new limited series from Mike Flanagan based on the Stephen king novel of Carrie is on the way this year with a planned release for sometime in October. Now the ideal release of this project I feel does make the most sense in timing as it is a horror story and will fit in the time of the spooky season so I am sure it could be an ideal approach and it will be interesting to see the approach Flanagan makes for this novel compared to the 2 previous adaptions from the mid 70s and the early 2010s but I guess we will see in due course and i am sure will be worth a watch when it releases around the spooky season.

Now on the next release date confirmation, this one was revealed earlier in the week and it is one that I feel for many people giving it is an anniversary of a popular series that I feel with this outcome it is the best of both worlds as it was announced to coincide with the series 20th anniversary, we got the announcement that a special based on Hannah Montana will be making its way onto Disney+ and is also only a month away with the special set to drop on March 24th. Now the case with this instance I have no idea in the likes if this is an all new reunion episode like the upcoming Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle reunion, or if it will be like the Friends reunion where it was just them sitting around talking about the show and having a whole array of guest stars that had nothing to do with the original series and felt really out of place, but I guess we will see in due course about the whole ordeal (I mean it could be that reported Hannah Montana concert that Miley Cyrus hopes to do with some future tour who knows). I do wonder if we will see a few of the cast show up to reminisce with Miley like her friends in the show or her dad Billy ray but I am sure we will get a better idea of it in due time and I am a bit curious to see what will come of it all but I guess we will see when this title drops in a months time.

For the last of the stories and release date news is one that provides a bit of some good news over the likes of some many change arounds for this project and it will provide a sense that these heroes will be coming out of the shadows that little bit earlier as it was announced on Friday of this week that the upcoming sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem has gotten a new earlier release date with the title being moved up by a month from September 17th to August 13th 2027. Now this title has been moved back and forth on this release date with this follow up initially set for release for this year in October before all of this crazy messy shakeups at the studio of Paramount that saw this get delayed by an extra year and then the whole change about of other Turtle based projects like the New family friendly live action one out a year later and the planned Last Ronin adaption still set in the works but just unknown of how long a delay it will have now. With this case I am excited to check this one out as I really enjoyed the first entry of the series and hope they will really continue the appeal and momentum that it provided and appealing animation too but I guess we will see by the time this title drops next August.

But what do you make of these stories, do you think Mckenna grace is a solid choice for the Scooby Doo series or would you prefer some new unknown stars, is Kristen Bell a solid choice for Amy or which actress did you hope to portray the hedgehog, are you excited for a new animated Venom movie, will this Carrie limited series be a success, will you be checking out the Hannah Montana special and what approach do you feel the special will go in and are you excited for this new Ninja turtles film and will be released earlier again from this date? Let me know your thoughts down below.

And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the newest episode of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoy the array of ramblings I have of another week of all things media. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed this week down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)

Take Care, Keep being you Signing Off
Sam H :)
