Weird Mind News Room Episode 160: March 16th - 22nd
*Rocky Grace play music, save Earth, save Erid*
Well hello to my wonderous cavalcade to the amazing Weird Mind of Media News Room of Mine as we have many heart stopping and mind bending tales of some new releases, trailers and News all for you to find and head on many new adventures, so lets not waste time standing around and lets start the show on talking on all things media for another week.
Project New Releases
Movies
Project Hail Mary
On the first of the new releases for this week is the first of one of my most anticipated films of the year finally making a presence on the big screen in the case that when the world is on the slow brink of collapse and things seem dire, it will take one man who may not be the most capable of the job to be the saviour of the human race and discover he is not the only one out there as we have the release of the newest adaption of the novels of Andy Weird and From lord and Miller with Project Hail Mary. The film will follow Ryland Grace, a school professor who awakens on a spacecraft with no memory of himself or of his mission. When his memory slowly returns, he deduces that he is the sole survivor of a crew sent to the Tau Ceti Solar system in search of a solution of a soon to be a catastrophic event heading for Earth. Now in the search for Answers, he must soon rely on his vast array of scientific knowledge, sheer ingenuity, and human will - but he may soon realize that he will not have to search alone. Reception on this adaption has been very highly well recieved with praise on the performances of Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller, the visuals, cinematography and for being seen as one of this years best films already. Now I saw it on Paddy's day and I have to say it is brilliant and I didn't think I would be getting emotional over a rock but colour me surprised and if you want to see the buzz and appeal of it all then you can catch it out now in cinemas.
Ready or Not 2: Here I come
For the 2nd release of this week is bringing the ideal focus and sense that sometimes what you think is a simple fun game you played as kids for some newlyweds can turn into something a lot more drastic and sadistic then you expected and getting through it all and survive was what many thought would be the end of the ordeal, but it seems that another round is about to begin and another player is being added to the game, whether they wanted to or not as we have the release of the film that uses the best use of a subtitle in quite some time with the release of Ready or Not Here I Come. The follow up once again follow Grace MacCaullay (Samara Weaving), the sole survivor of a brutal "Game" that resulted in the death of her Husband and in-laws, learns that her victory comes with a price: now the wealthiest and most influential families on Earth have to kill her in a new game - or risk losing their power and fortune. Initially refusing to participate, she's soon left with no choice when her younger sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton) is also marked for death and she will soon have to protect her and survive this new round of the deadly game. Reception on the follow up to the original has been well recieved with praise of the main leads, the higher stakes and ante of the original and proving the case that it has its appeal of a follow up that still works and if you want to join in on the 2nd round of this hide and seek then you can catch this film also out now in cinemas.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
For the 3rd of the films for this week is bringing the ideals of high class warfare in an era when things are looking dire, some things are uncertain and when all hope seems dire, it is to ask of one question and that is what happened to Thomas Shelby? Well it seems that has been answered as it is time that we have the release of the all new follow on from the original series with the release of the film of Peaky Blinders the Immortal Man. Taking place 7 years after the end of the original series, it sees Tommy Shelby driven back from a self imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of his family and country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. Reception on this sequel film, similar to the original series has been very well and highly praised with praise on the characters, writing, performances and being a worthy follow up to the original beloved series and as a possible hope for the possible future of the series and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can watch the full series and film out now on Netflix.
Arco
For the last of the films for this week is one of the last of the films from the Oscar award season that is making their release overall (and initially I thought was not releasing until September at one point) but it is time for a journey of the past and future and in the focus to the mysteries mixed with a lot of colour and a hope for tomorrow as we have the release of the award nominated film of Arco. The film follows the titular character, a 10-year-old boy from a peaceful future who accidentally travels back in time to the year of 2075. Discovering a world in peril, he bands together with a young girl and her robot caretaker as he sets out on a quest to return home. reception on this film has been very well recieved with praise on its striking animation style, story and characters that helps provide some hopeful themes for tomorrow and seen as one of last year and this years best films and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can check it out now in cinemas.
TV Shows
Invincible Season 4
For the one tv show of the week (well somewhat but will get to that) it is time in the focus of the heroes and adversaries to come together to fight a common enemy for the greater good against all things evil as its time for some more superhero focus stories, but not in the realm of the usual Marvel and DC affair, but in the realm of other mature heroes as we have the release of the 4th season of the popular series adaption of Invincible. This season will be focused on the narrative of the Viltrumite War storyline from the comics and following the global catastrophe from the end of last season, a changed Mark struggles with Guilt as he struggles to fight and protect his home and the people he loves, setting him on a collision course with a power new threat known as Thragg that could alter the fate of humanity forever. Reception on this new season, similar to the previous seasons have been very well recieved with praise on the continuing story, improved animation, characters and for a well established adaption of the classic comics it is based on and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch the first 3 episodes now on Amazon Prime with a new episode releasing every Wednesday.
Video Games
Crimson Desert
For the one video game title of the week, we are heading to the realm of high fantasy and in the cusp and focus to the realm of trying to have everything you could want with a high octane focus to action and adventure and a splash of some form of magic infused as we have the release of the all new fantasy title of Crimson Desert. The title will see you control a man named Kliff that with him and his fellow greymanes Oongka, Yann, and Naira - during a period of conflict on the continent of Pywel. After a devastating attack by their rival faction of The Black Bears and your comrades scattered, it will see you on a journey across the lands to reunite with his comrades, rebuild the fallen Greymanes and find a way to defeat the leader of the Black Bears of Myurdin. Reception on the title has been modestly recieved to a little mixed with praise on the visuals, narrative and gameplay, however the game has been hit with critiques on it feeling too overstuffed with so much to process at once and has had some drama in relation to the use of Generative AI in the game for some assets and an ordeal about the functional use of a GPU software when they initially planned to be functional. But if you want to play the title for yourself it is available to play now on PS5, XBox Series X/S, PC and Mac.

The Amazing Digital Circus Episode 8: hjsakldfhl
Now for the last of the release and one that counts as a Tv show but also a video form, it is time we return to the place of fun, mystery, death, agony, betrayal, destruction, Fruit Cake? and have your mind bending, Heart Stopping and no trauma (terms and conditions apply on that last one) as its time to enter the digital world and see what the inhabitants of this crazy place have to deal with this time as we have the release of the 8th episode of The Amazing Digital Circus entitled hjsakldfhl. In this new episode we will see the events of what occoured from the shocking cliffhanger of the Beach Episode and will see the outcomes for Pomni, Jax, Gangle, Zooble, Kinger and Ragatha of the aftermath while also getting some answers to some burning questions and wonder if the Ringmaster himself may be fully in control or on the verge of losing it. Now while I can't find the case of normal critic reviews but what I have seen online is everyone has loved it and has their emotions in a way that has many theorizing and satisfied for this before the big finale that is to come, that even came to me with streaming it on Friday Live and I enjoyed it and have my own theories (and will review it when it all comes out) and if you want to experience all forms of emotions (which may or may not include trauma) then you can watch the new episode now on YouTube and on Netflix sometime soon and the finale is set for release in 3 months time on June 19th.
The amazing Digital Trailers
Dune Messiah
So it has been a big week for trailers and on the first one is the other half of the big 2 film event of the winter season that was being held back on releasing the trailer until a recent award show (cause they had one small alteration to do before they made it official which I found as tedious) but it looks like the narratives of the tales from the deep planet of Arrakis is about come to a head in an epic conclusion as we have the release of the first trailer for the 3rd Part of the Dune series (which I will be referring to as Dune Messiah). Based on the follow up novel of Messiah, the film will be set 17 years after Part 2 and will see Paul Atreides as a trapped Emperor, that despite ruling the universe, he is powerless to stop the bloody Jihad fought in his name and he faces a conspiracy to dispose him and must fight for the people of Arrakis and of the powerful substance of the Spice. So to give the focus of my thoughts overtime on the series, I initially liked the films and have seen both in Imax for the level they should be but its kind of one of those film series that I can give or take or the version may fit more in the realm of the original version that came out back in the 80s but I can see the visual splendor that the director has to offer. I will say as well that maybe personally, they could've recasted the 2 leads to age them up given that it is 2 decades since the last and the leads of Paul and Chani look a little too young (or else this spice has some really great skin care aspects). Personally I am a little on the fence but I am sure it will be worth a watch with the double bill but I am sure we can see by the films release into cinemas from December 18th.
Spider-Man Brand New Day
On the 2nd of the trailers for this week is with the focus of some more superheroics (and the trailer I was more in focus with this week) as after the massive effects of the previous entry for this specific hero, things are about to get a lot more heavy and it seems more then anything that things are about to take much more of a toll on this hero, as after a bit of a wait we have finally gotten the official trailer for the 4th Mainline MCU entry of this wallcrawler with the new trailer for Spider-Man Brand New Day. Following the events of the spell that Doctor Strange casted at the end of No Way Home, the world has now forgotten that Peter Parker exists and is the identity of Spider-Man. Four Years Later, he protects the city of New York as the iconic wall crawler but soon the overwhelming pressure of crime fighting ignites a threatening physical evolution in Peter, forcing him to deal with that while also investigating a series of crimes that lead to a more powerful threat. So it has been quite the journey for this film since the last film 5 years ago and I will have to say that the adaption in focus for this project looks really proper appealing and the ideals of this showing more of the internal struggle of having to give up his identity for his friends and loved ones and the toll it is taking on him seems to harken back a little to Spider-Man 2 but also giving such a unique focus to it all and it seems that the director of Destin Daniel Cretton is really showing hes not a one trick appeal with Shang-Chi and Wonder Man as it looks like hes giving even more life into this character and teasing a lot of iconic villains of the rogues gallery from Scorpion, Boomerang and more as well as a tease of the Punisher and the Hulk and I feel it could go a lot more of a sinister approach by the end of this but overall I am very excited for the outcome of this and thankfully its not too long away as he will be swinging all the way into cinemas from the 31st of July.
Shaun the Sheep: The Monster of Mossy Bottom
And for the last of the trailers in focus for this week is to point out the case that there is one other film coming out later this year that I see as the real big film of the year then both Doomsday and Dune 3 combined and its a film that does not even need to have elaborate dialogue and all done in the form of Claymation as nearly a decade since their last outing on the big screen, we are back with the first official teaser to the 3rd film in the popular series of film of the popular character from Aardman with Shaun the Sheep The Beast of Mossy Bottom. The film see the residents of Mossy Bottom farm looking forward to Halloween - until the clumsy farmer accidentally trashes the flock's beloved pumpkin patch! When Shaun turns mad scientist to try and fix the problem, things will soon spiral out of control. Now with the farmer missing and a wild beast roaming the woods of Mossingham, all form the ingredients of a monstrously fun adventure. If there is a case I can say about anything that it really seems like a very slim ordeal in this day and age of having a full length film done in a silent format, let alone in the realm of animation and it being something that really appeals and it has proven itself twice and so far from what I can get from this new one is something I will be appealing in the likes of the project as the first 2 were very entertaining and Aardman is a studio that I also enjoy their projects and I do think this will be another success in the process and I am sure it will be a fun time at the movies and worth checking out when it releases into cinemas from September 18th.
News of many adventures
the many wins and surprises of the Oscars
So we start the first news story in focus for this week with a bit of the round up to the end of another week of the award season focus as last Sunday night we had the live show the 98th edition of the Oscars that was once again hosted by Presenter Conan O'Brien for a 2nd year in a row, which I think comparing to the other talk show host of Jimmy Kimmel, Conan is leaps and miles better in terms of hosting. But besides that, we are here to look into the events of the night in the focus of seeing the big wins and surprises and will also come into seeing how many of my predictions of the many categories have I gotten accurate for the predictions I do every year, but let us delve into the big winners of the night.
So going off the nominees and focus, the film with the most wins of the night came from the title of One battle after Another where it won 6 of its 13 Nominations which includes Best Picture, Director for Paul Thomas Anderson and for Best Adapted screenplay of some of the big focus ones which seemed like it was a tough competition in focus overall. Coming in 2nd of the big winners of the night is the biggest nominated film of the event with Sinners winning 4 of its 16 nominations which include best original Screenplay and for best Actor for Michael B Jordan, beating out the initial frontrunner for that category of Timothee Chalamet (looks like someone needs to not be cocky about 2 art forms of Opera and Ballet that helped to shape Acting and film and have a lot of their family in Ballet professionally and in my personal opinion needs to change up their performance as they are all too similar to one another, get some better PR training and to also do better then a relationship with a member of the Kardashian Jenner family but that's just me) and was so happy he won the award overall. Coming in 3rd from the wins was actually a man made monster of a success with Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein winning 3 awards of its 9 nominations, with it winning the Production, Makeup and Costume awards which I feel this had the strongest of chances winning those overall. And the last film to have won multiple awards was with K-Pop Demon Hunters winning both of its Oscars it was nominated for including for Best animated film and Best Original Song for Golden and I do hope in the future we will see a proper return for the appreciation of animation (not like the voters this year were like against the category when animation was so weaved into this award show every year back in the day and also feel that this show needs to get actual proper voters that will watch all of the films, docs and shorts nominated instead of skipping most of them) and overall for the ones with multiple wins it was a success overall.
Now there is some that have had some surprise outcomes with one of the big ones that many saw as unexpected was a complete snub for Marty Supreme winning none of its 9 nominations and personally I am fine it was snubbed as I was personally majorly disappointed in that film (plus I already mentioned that he somewhat blew its chances of its film winning much and that weird overmarketing for it didn't fully help it properly in explaining what the film was supposed to be like). Another surprise win was with the new category of Best casting with the first win being for One Battle after another when many felt it was going for Sinners but I guess its the early days for this category so I am sure it will last more and better established then with the ones of best cheer moment and best fan favourite film being a Snyderbot disaster from 4 years ago. We also had for only the 7th time in Oscar history that their was a tie in a category with it being with the Live action short of both The Singers and two people exchanging Saliva winning the award with the same amount of votes (it used to be max difference of 3 votes before that changed) and was a surprise for a year of awards. I also liked that there was a case of a lot more other films and nominations at least had some chance of winning some awards like Sentimental value, F1, Hamnet (Big win for the Irish that night) and even Weapons all winning an Oscar for their titles and feeling more of a decent balance compared to the likes of a different media type awards being one sided sweep. Lastly in the focus of all of this was on my predictions and it was the case of how accurate I was in terms of my quick shorts I was similar number with last year getting 21 out of 24 nominations accurate in wins (or about 87.5%) with the only ones I guess inaccurate was for Best Casting, Documentary film ( I believe I chose the perfect neighbour over Mr Nobody against Putin) and the last was supporting Actor win Penn winning over my initial choice of I believe Skarsgard, Elordi or Lindo but I mean its expected I haven't gotten complete all for all yet but maybe one year I will. Overall I feel it was a solid Oscar show that was not bogged down with over reliance on political jokes and instead focused more on the films themselves and poking fun in the area like that at some of the nominees and films and I would not say no to Conan hosting again for a 3rd year or someone with a similar energy but I guess we will be back in a year for another round of movies getting awards.
But what are your thoughts on all of these Oscars wins, how many predictions did you get right and what did you think should've won instead for certain categories and who do you want to see host the next Oscars? Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments.
The new projects on the way of the house of Mouse
Now for this next story is mainly in the realm of one studio dropping a few announcements this week with a focus of 2 locked in release dates and a selection of other titles on the way with it mainly being shown in the studio of the House of Mouse of Disney and its subsidiaries, well mainly just Pixar and their own studio, but we can delve into the announcements now in focus of what is to come, so lets dive in.
But what do you make of these announcements, are you excited for Incredibles 3 and the Live Action Lilo and Stitch sequel and what will their plots entail and do you see this list of announcements from Disney as real or just a fabrication or when do you see these films coming out? Let me know your opinions down below and we can discuss about them there.
A healthy serving of casting additions.
The final story for the week is in the focus of the usual array that we will more often then not see in the weekly episodes with this section focusing on the array of the casting announcements for some new projects from films and shows coming along over the next few weeks, months and years, so let us delve into the focus of the castings from this week.
Now for the last of the castings and a return to another video game adaptions, we are staying in the realm of a world gone to ruins from a deadly virus as we have some new additions for the upcoming 3rd season of the Popular TV adaption of The Last of Us with a selection of 4 new additions for this upcoming season, with one of the casting that may be a bit of a divisive choice but it was announced on Thursday that Conjuring star Patrick Wilson and Gravity Falls star Jason Ritter were cast in the series with Wilson playing Abby's Dad of Jerry, and Ritter playing a member of the WLF's known as Hanley which I feel fit the tone of all of this worlds and see the characters they can play well. Then on Friday, we were given the confirmation for 2 major roles for this project with Bridgerton Actress Michelle Mao playing the role of Yara, while Star Wars Skeleton Crew Actress Kyriana Kratter has been cast as Lev. Now it is that last one that has been a bit of a discussion as if you have played the divisive 2nd game in the series then you will know that Lev is confirmed as Trans as in the narrative, the game will tell us that Lev was a girl in the island village that is the inhabitants of the Seraphites or the Scars and they were initially to be wed off into an arranged marriage, but Lev went against that shaved his head to look like a boy to become a hunter and find a way to escape their society with his sister Yara and at point when you fight the scars with Lev that they will dead name the character and it was a case that the actor that played Lev in the game was also Transgender. This was always going to be a tricky casting as the case was how will they go about getting this right cause they know that if they casted a trans actor then it will cause a wave of death threats and Transphobes coming out of the woodwork (and if you are going to be like that then you can leave), but at the same time if they casted someone that wasn't then it also becomes a bit of a problem that it will have some fans of the game and series feel that its not doing things accurate (which was the same case that people had with Bella Ramsey's performance in season 2 and of Kaitlyn Dever not being overly muscular like Abby is in the game). It really is a bit of a difficult one to balance about and come into a focus on deciding the best choice. Like I am still looking forward to it and I am sure the actress will do a great job and I hope that the writers and showrunners will make it work to the best of their ability or find a solution that appeals on both sides cause it is hard to really get a grasp on the outcome. I am sure we will get an idea as the filming of the 3rd season gets underway soon for what I see as a 2027 release or something but if anything new comes about or changes or additions to the cast is made then I will provide it in a later episode.
But what do you think of all of these castings news stories, do you think they have made a solid choice for the Scooby doo adaption or who would you have casted, are you excited for the new and returning additions for Sonic 4, will Kirsten Dunst do well in the Minecraft sequel, who do you see the new additions for Quiet Place playing and what are your thoughts on the casting additions for the new season of Last of Us? Let me know what you think of it all down below in the comments.
Now with all of that, that brings us to the end of the 160th edition of Weird Mind news room and I hope you enjoyed the ramblings in focus for another week of all things media. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed this week down below and as Always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take care, keep being you signing off
Sam H :)
