Weird Mind News Room Episode 162: March 30th - April 5th
*Music for a Galaxy Sized Adventure*
Well hello again to all of you very fine and wonderful people to the newest edition of the weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where for another week we will be delving into an array of all forms of New Releases, Trailers and News Stories that have arrived from the week you may know or may have missed from the week of entertainment, so lets not waste too much time on the introductions and lets delve into all things media for another week.
Super New Releases Galaxy
Movies
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
So we will start off the releases with the first of what I would definitely be a film that is really one of my most anticipated films of the year as it will be time to return to the magical world of the mushroom kingdom and in this case we will be blasting off into the far reaches of the cosmos to help save the world once more and for an all new intergalactic adventure as we have the release of the follow up to the 2023 box office juggernaut with the release of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The new entry will see Mario and Luigi will join Princess Peach, Toad and new ally in Yoshi on an adventure to the far reaches of space and across the galaxy where they face off against Bowser's Son, Bowser Jr, who is trying to save and free his father from being shrunken and imprisoned and help rescue princess Rosalina, the protector of the Lumas on the Comet observatory. Now the reception on this new film is a little more mixed compared to the first film that also saw a mixed reception that while the film was praised for the visuals, voice performances for the most part and for the references to the games and tone, the film has been hit with the lacking of story and plot and for too much at once, as well as the pacing being a bit too quick in a lot of ways even for a 90 minute movie. Now it has spawned a debate in the likes of those that love the series are happy with the outcome (like myself, I loved it, even when I see the flaws in many parts) where some will say its a kids movie and should not be too harsh, but it really demeans the style of film it is which is animation can be cinema still and has been proven with other films but if you want to head off on the journey to the cosmos that I am sure will appeal to the families and younger audiences anyways, you can catch this film out now in cinemas.
The Drama
For the 2nd of the films for this week is seeing the ideals that some form of Wedding bells will be ringing but I have to wonder if its the bells of love or the bells of ringing in someones ear if things get a little crazy and a brawl may occour from some secrets and truths being revealed as we have the release and have been cordially invited to the all new film from A24 with the release of The Drama. The plot of this film will the ideals that days before a planned wedding, a couple's (Robert Pattinson and Zendaya) relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other. Reception on the film has been very well recieved with praise on the performances of the 2 leads, the story and tone that it fully takes and keeping things simple seems to have their appeal. However the film has already been told to have seen some real world drama and controversy due to the focus of the twist that sets off the drama, as well as some past content created by the director that has been seen in a bit of a questionable light, but looking past that it seems to be a success and if you want to RSVP your attendance, then you can do so now in cinemas.
The Fuze
Now for the last of the new films for this week is bringing the case about some ordeal of something that could happen in the real world that some affects of past conflicts can still have some possibility that things could be an overall devastating outcome if something minor goes wrong but this one could also benefit for a possible perfect crime score as we have the release of the all new film known simply as Fuze. The film will see the city of London about to go through a citywide evacuation when an undetonated bomb from World War II found in a busy construction site. Amid this tension and chaos, a criminal operation is set in stone - one that uses the cover of the evacuation as a meticulously planned bank heist. Reception on this new action thriller was well received with praise to the concept, performances and tone of the overall story of a fun popcorn flick and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch it now in cinemas with a US release coming later this month on April 24th.
TV Shows
The Burbs
For the one tv series in focus for this week is that sometimes it can be seen that we have all had a vision in mind for a possible peaceful place to call home that can be seen as perfect, but it seems that sometimes there is always going to be a secret found somewhere on the street behind any door or corner ready to be exposed as we have the release of a new tv series based on a popular 90s film with a new take on The Burbs. The series based on the original 1989 film will see some old secrets begins to resurface when a newly married couple (Keke Palmer & Jack Whitehall) relocate to the suburban neighbourhood of the Husband's youth where they begin to suspect the residents are hiding something and the neighbour in the house across the way may be a possible killer. reception on this new series take of the original film seems to be well received with praise on the more improved tone of the original concept and the performances, especially Keke Palmer being a highlight of the cast praise and if you want to check it out for yourself it is available to stream now on Peakcock in the US and on Sky and Now Tv in the UK and Ireland.
Video Games
Super Meat Boy 3D
For the first of the video game releases is seeing the return of both a challenge and also the focus of an video game icon of the early Indie scene who proved that with a simple design and idea can make a challenge that much more fun, but in this case they are back for another all new adventure and in an all new dimension as the little guy made of meat is back as we have the release of the all new game of Super Meat Boy 3D. The new title will see Meat Boy chase after his arch Enemy of Dr Fetus as he has captured his girlfriend of Bandage girl and will see you hop skip and plan your way around 5 worlds of many differing levels of challenge in order to save her and get home in one piece, but now in the 3rd dimension. Reception on this new entry has been very well recieved with praise on the challenge, visuals and appealing return of one of the original Indie darlings and if you are up for the challenge, then you can play it now on PS5, XBox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC.
Darwin's Paradox
The last of the new releases and games for this week is seeing an all new title of great skill, focus and determination and will see things are about to get a little bit more fishy and looking to make a break from a certain demise as we have the release of an all new title in the form of Darwin's Paradox. You will play as the titular character, an Octopus who was peacefully swimming in the ocean with his friend before he is separated by a UFO and taken to a processing facility known as UFOOD. You will soo have to find your friend and break out of the facility and discover the secrets of this new food company that seems to involve possible mind control, mysterious experiments and a possible invasion of earth. Reception on this new title has been well recieved with praise on the narrative, visuals, gameplay and challenge, even if can be a difficult one that can be best compared to Octodad (possibly) but if you want to solve this Paradox then you can play this title now on PS5, XBox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC.
Trailers of various worlds
The Backrooms
For the first foray into trailers is taking us more into the focus of some new take on the ever growing popular genre of the tone in the Analog age, but it seems that while at face value, it may not cause too much of a concern or harm, the more deeper you go the more creepier it gets and the uncertainty that something could be hiding behind any corner of this ever expanding maze as we have gotten the official full trailer from the upcoming new film based on the popular analog horror series with the trailer for the Backrooms. Based on the Creepypasta and video series by Parsons, the film will follow a therapist who will soon be entering a strange and unsettling world found in a department store in search of finding her missing patient. So it is a case as I mentioned with the previous trailer for this is that I remember being introduced to this video series from someone I will always care about and enjoyed their insight on the series and interest in it and enjoyed their enjoyment to it as well and it is a case I will always be thankful of being introduced to it by them (as with a lot of other things). As for the film itself, while the teaser from a few weeks ago was one that seemed to get the style down of the location, this gave it more of a idea of how it all comes about and the mix of it having some mystery and building more on the creepy pasta and then also showing it will take a tone similar to the videos of the actual analog horror aesthetic really appeals (which makes sense given it is directed by the kid who really kicked off the series appeal) and from this tease gives me more of an appeal to it overall and it has given me more of an interest to it (and am intrigued of how serious it will come from its confirmed R-Rating) and will be worth a trip when it releases into cinemas from May 29th.
Masters of the Universe
For the 2nd of the trailer for the week is taken us more from a familiar but unsettling location to a land that is full of fantasy, magic and all forces of good and evil where through the powers of Greyskull, this hero will soon find the Power!!!!! as we have recieved another all new look and trailer for the upcoming new adaption and take of a beloved Action series of the 80s with a new look at Masters of the Universe. Fleeing a devastating civil war, ten year old Prince Adam Glenn (Nicholas Galitzine) is spirited away to his mothers home planet of Earth to protect him from the evil forces, which separates him from his Ancestor's Sword of Power. 2 Decades later, a now adult Adam must return to the planet of Eternia and rediscover his his lost birthright, becoming the mighty hero He-Man and leading the few remaining warriors of Eternia against the evil forces of Skeletor (Jared Leto). So the likes of this franchise itself is one that I have seen in passing from the new takes in the updated animated forms on streaming or the classic film take from the 80s with Dolph Lundgren (or of course the famous meme to the song of What's Up by the 4 Blondes or the ones with Skeletor) and it is a case that I feel that it has its appeal and I am sure hope that it could be like that Dungeons and Dragons film from a few years ago that was surprisingly entertaining. Now of course I also mentioned the one concern and issue is mainly with the choice of the main villain in Leto as Skeletor as his roles and projects are not the most appealing and ideal of choices as more then likely may make it a bit too overly serious in method acting and could bring it all down but I guess we will have to see what will come of it all an due time but I see the appeal from the footage shown and from its release with the power being unleashed into cinemas from June 5th.
Supergirl
For the last of the trailers for this week is taking us from the far reaches to the cosmos and even to the edges of our planet and beyond to where a year ago we were introduced to the original symbol of hope that saw a sense of a brighter tomorrow taking shape, but in this case, we will be introduced to more of his intergalactic family with his initially more older but now rebellious cousin, as its time for Kara to get her time in the spotlight as we have the release of a new trailer for the upcoming new film in the DCU with Supergirl. The film will follow Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) who decides to travel across the galaxy with her dog Krypto to celebrate her 23rd birthday. Along the way, she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and encounters a tragedy that will soon lead to to a "murderous quest for revenge". It can be a case that where I see the initial DCEU may have had an idea in mind when it all started, the concern of the studio from the mixed reception at the start and the messy and dark tone has really made the appeal of some by the end of it all being a very messy saga where it seems that this new focus has some potential from the earliest projects so far and this one seems to appeal in the way of some intergalactic hijinks and giving a fair bit of tone and appeal of going even more outlandish from the rosters of heroes and characters across the comics from a proper new look and focus on Lobo who Mamoa was really born to play and overall seems like from what I can get from this is something that has a lot of appeal and hopefully will have as much entertainment as last years Superman and see the hope for even more with this planned new DCU but I guess we will see in due time as this new hero is taking flight into cinemas from the 26th of June.
News of the various forms
Dates for a murder Memoir, new space adventures, element benders, heroes and killers
Now for the focus of the one short week of news stories in the focus then we will have a selection that mainly focuses heavily on some new release date announcements and the focus of maybe one or two separate stories in there as well that may be announcements of new projects or updates to existing stories but we will delve into that in due time so lets see what comes from this week of focus.
But what do you make of these stories, will you be checking out the new Murder She Wrote film and if you have seen the original series what are your thoughts, do you think a Spaceballs sequel will do well in this day and age, do you think Netflix will fix the issues people had with the first season of Avatar or will this all continue down hill, are you excited for the return of the defenders in the MCU and do you think that Scream 8 is necessary or pointless? Let me know what you think down below and we can discuss them there.
And with all of that this brings us to the end of the 162nd edition of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoyed the ramblings for another week as always. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed this week down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take Care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
