Weird Mind News Room Episode 191: Oct 19th - 25th
*Music for exploring the wonders of the Woods*
Well Hello again to all of you very wonderful and awesome sauce people across the interwebs, my name is Sam and I am back here once again to talk on the various forms of media pieces in the areas of New Releases, Trailers and News stories all in the focus of what there is to discuss from the last few days, so lets not waste too much time on the usual intros and lets get to talking on all things media for this week.
A wood full of new releases
Movies
Wildwood
So we will start off the first of the new releases for this week with a title that has been long in the waiting and development that after 16 years of fine craft, dedication , detail and everything in between, it will show all of the vast secrets and wonders found in this mysterious forest that will lead to a discovery that will change the course of the society that lies beyond the trees as after 7 years since their last title, we return to the studio of Laika for the release of their all new title of Wildwood. Based on the novel of the same name, the film will follow Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her Classmate Curtis Mehlberg (Jacob Trembley) are drawn into a hidden magical forest near Portland in an attempt to save Prue's kidnapped infant brother Mac from the crows, who are led by a mysterious woman named Alexandra (Carey Mulligan). Reception on this title has been given universal acclaim with it sitting still at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with praise on its scope, scale, performances, narrative, visuals and being a well respected and fine adaption of the first in the novel series and showing the creativity in Stop motion is still present in this day and age and I urge you all to go and support this as I know I will this weekend and you can go check it out now in cinemas.
Clayface
Our next film release of this week is one that will be a bit more of a title that will be a whole lot more darker and be the next iteration in the newly reworked saga of titles based on the world of Superheroes and where the first title told us to look up, the 2nd that may not have been as strongly recieved told us to look out, this new title will be fitting for the time of year and will tell us to look Fear in the face and mold to something stronger or menacing as we have the release of the 3rd film title for the DCU with the film of Clayface. The film will follow Matt Hagan (Tom Rhys Harries), an u-and-coming actor whose face is disfigured by a Gangster. As a form of last resort, Matt turns to a scientist, Dr Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie) who transforms his body into clay with some sense of unforeseen consequences. Reception on this new title has been modestly well recieved with praise on the lead performance, the visuals, setting and tone of being a stomach churning body horror. Now I have seen this film as I was invited to the premiere of it and I really cannot tell you how I survived watching this without collapsing in the cinema screen as there was a lot of scenes that nearly took me out but I powered through and will say this is a really solid title and a great body horror in of itself and hope to see more in this new expanding universe and if you are ready to mold the new face of horror then you can also catch this film out now in cinemas (just be warned that it takes a strong stomach to watch).
Klara and the Sun
For the 3rd film of this week will be in the focus of the ideals that we have seen the case about the concerns in the present day about Artificial Intelligence (not that "Super" label the Orange Predator was pushing) and while there is the focus of not wanting these machines to take over all of our lives in different forms, there is some I see where it benefits those that may be more of a physical friend or for those with some ailments or disabilities and this is what will be the focus in presenting here as we have the release of another new adaption of a novel with the release of Klara and the Sun. Based on a novel by Kazou Ishiguro, the film is set in a dystopian future where technological advances have divided humans into strict, isolated social classes, an obsolete companion android Friend (AF) named Klara (Jenna Ortega), tries to bond with Josie (Mia Tharia), a sick girl for whom she was purchased for to help in being a friend for. Reception on this title however has not been the most well recieved as while the performances (particularly of Ortega) being a highlight and the concept being decent, the film doesn't really help push an important message in the concept or feels a little lacking in some scope but I see it as being a decent time that will find its audience and fans in the process and maybe could be a case that some will still appeal to Waititi's work (though it seems this may have put his star wars project on ice but its hard to say) and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can also catch this film now in cinemas.
Ali G Who Iz I?
The last of the films for this week is more of a Documentary title then more of a film itself that the first film based on this specific character but I guess when you got the aura, style and prowess that this top G use to have and to see what they have been up to in the time since we last seen them ya hear, as we will see in the release of this new Mockumentary Documentary of Ali G Who iz I? The film will see the return of Ali G and will follow a documentary crew across a year of his life to see what he has been up to since we last saw him in the initial film and tv series and will deal with changing culture, fashion and trends, while also dealing with the ordeals of discovering his girlfriend is 8 months Pregnant. Reception on this new title is a bit more of a mixed one as while the idea of seeing another one of Cohen's characters making a return after the recent revival of Borat, the film feels a little lost in its direction and may be uncertain if the comedy works or trying to be offensive but I am sure there will be some appeal to some down the line and if you want to check it out for yourself then you can catch it now in cinemas or on Amazon Prime from the 28th of October.
TV Shows
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2
For the sole tv show of this week will be giving us a clear focus of stylish animation for the ideal case of all of this and it will be taking us back to the near distant future and a return to a vast and elaborate technical city that will have in one way or the other have a sinister underbelly looking to be cleaned up by the professionals as we have the release of the surprise 2nd season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Set as a standalone title and set one year after the event of the Cyberpunk title in 2078, it follows Roman Carax, an aspiring filmmaker who documents and becomes entangled in the lives of several individuals trying to survive and determine who they are within the dystopian Night City when the presence of the datashard with such unpredictable power becomes the focus for all the criminals in the city looking to obtain it for themselves. Reception on this new title Seems to be mostly well recieved that while praise was given to the visuals, characters and narrative, some of the issues stem that so many characters in focus feel a little too much to handle at once and could be seen as a little inferior to the first season but is still close to that seasons appeal and if you are ready to return to Night City then you can catch the new season now on Netflix.
Video Games
Switch Sports Resort
Moving over to the games for this week and this first new title will be bringing us back to a place that has been absent from this company's games in focus and after many years away it will finally be time to take a trip back to this place to partake in one thing and that is the expansive focus of physical activity once again as we have the release of the follow up in this consoles sports series with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. This new title will see you return to the land of WuHu Island after all these years and partake in the role of over a dozen sports across the island as your custom character or Miis from Tennis and Boxing, Archery and Jet skiing to new sports like Skateboarding and Thumb Wrestling to prove who is the best of the best and being active in the process. Reception on this new entry of the series has been well recieved with praise on the features and elements that are found in this new title, the gameplay of the sports and the visuals, that while not be the most elaborate of titles will be one that will be fun for casual and all ages and if you are up for some sports in an island getaway then you can play it now on Nintendo Switch 2.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4
The next game for this week will be time of year again where it will be time to suit up, gear up, get your brief and prepare to go dark as it will be the ordeal of this mission being life and death in the ideals of global catastrophe and where some previous decisions may have caused you to go against those that you saw as your brothers in arms and will look to make amends in the outcome as it will be time for the return to bring this narrative to a conclusion as we have the release of the newest entry in the reboot series of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. The game campaign is split across 2 different perspectives with the big focus being a possible major conflict between North and South Korea where you will pay as Park Hyun-Jun and his squad Sierra 1as they fight on the front lines of a North Korean Invasion. On the other side will see you once again portray Captain Price who is on the run after killing General Shepard at the end of the last game as he wages a personal war from the shadows and keeping one step ahead of those hunting him while he looks to take down "The Archer" who seems to be pulling both sides together into one conflict and could cause a global catastrophe. Reception on this new entry has been much better recieved with praise on its campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ modes, even if some elements of weapon loadouts and some main villain elements of the campaign can be a little lacking in appeal but seems to be back in the right direction after BO7 and if you are up to go above and beyond then you can play it now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC.
Final Fantasy Resonance
The last of the new releases and games for this week will be bringing us back to the era in focus of an IP that has for the better part of 3 decades have taken us to many tales of the past with great legends and creatures of power across many stories and heroes in the process too and where the likes of the next entry is a bit of time of way, its time we go back to where it was once thought would be lost to time but now has returned and give a focus with a fresh coat of paint as we have the release of the all new HD2D title of Final Fantasy Resonance. Based on the delisted mobile game from 2015 and will focus on Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as they set out to protect the remaining crystals across the world after the earth crystal is destroyed by Veritas of the Dark. Reception on this new iteration of the title has been very well recieved with praise on the updated visuals, narrative and other elements and bringing a more forgotten title in the series into the forefront once again and if you are up to play this entry of the long running series then you can play it now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 1 and 2 and PC.
Trailers of the sun
Well well well this is quite an ordeal here as for the first time in a while since the start of this series, I cannot seem to find or locate any trailers that seem to have released for this week which I think has only happened just one other time so far in this weekly series. I hoped for something for the follow up week of stuff but I can't seem to see anything and some I predicted could have something ended up going against my rule for these trailers so it may be one of a short skip of a week. Unless there is something I missed I can talk on I will update but for now we have a quiet empty week for trailers for the first time in a while.
News molded for your interests
Many ordeals and surprises to be found in this content
So while there is nothing in terms of the trailers for this week, it does not mean the same for the news section as of course there will be some stories for the weekly edition of a Hodge Podge that will be in focus here and will focus on some stories in the likes of some project updates and other means from the last few days in focus overall, so let us see what there was in store for it overall.
So I will start off with the one story of some update to a project already released that in the method that was unveiled has me with a lot of questions and it seems that when they said they were going to laugh at you, it looks like they will be paying a lot more attention right now as it was announced this week that the recent tv series adaption of Carrie will be coming back for a 2nd season and likely case will be helmed again by Mike Flanagan. Now this is where I can sense some of you are probably wondering how will this work exactly as that first season covered the entirety and expanded on the original book itself in some solid foundation (well its a mixed discussion online of many saying it starts strong and ends strong but is a little messy in the middle but I have no idea) and it seems from the likes of what is presented here could be they will be going beyond the narrative of the book and maybe could be something that will show there is some other people in the school or town that will have some form of powers and have some reasons or subtle themes as to why these powers are unleashed and will come together to stop a greater evil. I guess it will make sense in some form that akin to how they are doing it with the IT series that will be telling the stories in the past to the recent film adaptions but I am sure there will be something that could be worked on with King himself to adapt it but I guess we will see in due course. I have to give the first season a watch and I am sure I will get more of a better idea on what to do with the follow up but I am sure we will hear more down the line and if there is any new updates about it all I will let you know in a later episode.
Now for the likes of some of the project announcements and in this case I feel the timing of this project announcement has been done at the right moment and the ideals of returning to this franchise that I thought had more entries to it all but I guess there is always room for a new take on the series overall as it was announced earlier this week that a planned 5th film based on Halloweentown is reportedly in the works. Now it is a case for those unfamiliar this was a series of films that were made as movies for the Disney Channel that first released back in 1998 and I guess over the course of a few years after released 3 sequels of a surburban town where its Halloween every day and the citizens are all sorts of strange and colourful creatures and the ideal of it and the real town itself is quite an interesting one. Now in all case I am wondering what they will do about this series and if it will see any of the original cast come back, but I know the only one they will have to explain of their passing was the last Debbie Reynolds as she was a prominent character in the first 4 films but I am sure there will be a case of the family have to reunite to save the town from the return of Kalabar or something but I guess we will see what they will do with this new entry in the series. Now at the moment there is no indication as to when we will see this title but once I hear anything new about when we may see this I will let you know in a later episode.
But what do you make of these stories, how do you see them developing the story of Carrie further beyond the book, are you sad of Bioware's closure and do you see it going Independent, will the Blade game survive its possible cancellation or is the game too good to be true, will you be watching the new Halloweentown film when it releases, do you think they will make a solid Poison Ivy series and who do you see portray the botanist and do you think the Glee revival is a good idea or a disaster and do you see many of the main cast of the original return for this series? Let me know what you think of it all down in the comments and we can discuss them there.
And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 191st edition of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoy the rambling for another week. Let me know your thoughts on all that was discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)
Take Care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
