Weird Mind News Room Episode 192: Oct 26th - Nov 1st

*Take a seat here with the music

Well Hello again to all of you wonderful people across the vast forms of the internet and beyond, my name is Sam and I like to welcome you all again to my weekly series of Weird Mind News Room where for another week we will be in the focus of the array of New Releases, trailers and News Stories found across the interwebs and beyond from the last 7 weeks that I am sure will have a mixed array of opinions to, but lets delve into the logs of the week and see what was presented in all forms of media for this week.

New Releases in the strong viewer times

Movies
Primetime
On the first of the New Releases for this week I feel in the focus of the theme of this film project itself that fits to the week thats in it with a danger that back then and now is still a major concern and that is with the ideal of those dangerous and depraved individuals that will make it a mission to cause harm to a younger audience and in this case there was one man that was at the top of the game to take them down, but will bring to question that the bigger they push the dangerous of the outcome that will happen, so why not take a seat right over here as we have the release of the all new film based on true events with Primetime. The film will tell the origins and the rise in the creation of the dateline NBC News Magazine series To Catch a Predator, which saw host Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) confronting adult men looking to do sexual favours with minors and get lured to a sting house to serve justice on these dangerous individuals and where it will see the rise of the success up to the peak limit of ego going after the one they see as "The Whale". Reception on this title has been very well recieved with praise on the performances (particularly with Pattinson's Hanson and Skyler Gisondo's Dan), the retelling, cinematography and tone and seems like a solid take that is slightly altered (even if it seem the man himself is not a major fan for reasons). Now I have seen this myself and I can agree with a lot of the praises and while I can understand the opinion of Chris, I think it may not be too far from the truth and worth a watch and you can check it out as well with the film available to watch now in cinemas.

Wicker
Now for the 2nd film for this week is one that the concept on this at first glance may seem a bit outlandish, a bit strange and odd of focus, but I will say when you see the creation in all its glory then you may see that he is more then a created man but rather a fair bit of perfect marriage material as we have the release of the all new fantasy Rom-Com of Wicker. The film will focus on a fisherwomen (Olivia Coleman), an outcast who requests the village basket Weaver (Peter Dinklage) to build her a husband for herself made out of wicker and soon the sense of marriage material (and the raw passionate love making) become the real talk of the town. Reception on the new film is very well recieved with praise on the performances, concept, humour, romance and an idea that seems to prove that a love story can be done well (and also make you feel the whole experience from a special format in watching it) and if you are ready to meet the perfect man created overall then you can watch it now in cinemas.

I Love Boosters
For the last of the films for this week will be in the focus that we have seen many different industries, brands and companies making their name in the industry of fashion and the pricing in all of this can be a lot to be desired (and the clothing options are also questionable and to wonder if its really worth that price) but it will be worth to prove that their will be a group that will make it their own to put a spin on this industry for themselves and make it accessible for the people as we have the release of the all new film known as I Love Boosters. The film will follow a group known as the Velvet gang, a group of women who loot and steal from the brand and chains of a high end Metro Designers Fashion chain to fight against the rising costs and sell them as a more affordable rate through any means necessary. Reception on this title is also very well recieved with praise on the concept, performances, costume and narrative and seen as a solid contender as one of this years best films and if you are up for a bit of fashion then you can catch this also out now in cinemas.

TV Shows
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18
For the sole tv series for this week will be the case that we have all had one of those days or weeks that really puts you in a bit of a mess and things may get a bit heavy to focus on and sometimes all it takes is going to a place that's local for a bit of a wind down and get the spirits up, though the people running the place may not be the most ideal of sorts but they make an effort, as we are back in the local refinery of Paddy's Pub with the release of the 18th season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. This new season will see the continued ordeals and hijinks of the owners of Paddy's Pub as they end up on some strange focus from Wedding Bell worries, running a baseball team, sleepovers, learning the meaning and themes of Virtual Insanity and a fair bit more to be found with these not so perfect group. Reception on this season like many of the previous ones has been well recieved with praise on its continued concepts, narratives and ideals that seem like a simple idea but become a lot more crazier with this gang and if you want to see what other misadventures they deal with then you can catch the full season now on Netflix.

Video Games
Phantom Blade Zero
On the first of the gaming titles for this week will be bringing a sense of focus to a era of the past and where it will be down to your skills to rid of the dangers and curse of the land and become the stuff of legend as we have the release of the all new title of Phantom Blade Zero. IN this game you will take on the role of a man named Soul, an elite assassin serving the Order, who gets framed for the murder of the groups Patriarch and now becomes hunted by the Order's Members. Inflicted with a fatal wound to his heart and revived with a tainted one, he is left with only a few days left to live and you must go on a mission through the Phantom world to restore your heart and unravel the conspiracy that condemned him. Reception on this title has been very well recieved with praise on the narrative, visuals, gameplay and combat, though there has been some complaints about the games difficulty that while its seen as a souls like, it seems a lot more approach able to the genre overall but may be a place to start into these types of games and if you are up for the challenge then you can play it now on PS5 and PC.

Wolf Among Us Remastered
The last of the new Releases for this week is with a return once more to a world that was of a era of a time past and while we have been waiting to make a return to solve another new case, we are going back to where it all started and see it in a new focus of visuals and design as we have the release of the remaster to The Wolf Among Us. The game will retell the original series of games where you portray Bigby Wolf, a hardboiled detective in Fabletown, a clandestine community within New York as you take it upon yourself to solve a series of crimes and murders in a area known for a lot of fantastical creatures abound. Reception on this remaster like the original version has been very well recieved with praise on the narrative, gameplay and characters as well as great improvement in updated graphics and if you are ready to solve the case and prepare for the follow up you can play it now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC with a Switch 2 port and phyiscal media version dropping sometime soon.

Weaving some trailers together

Dune Part 3
So good news we have trailers this week and the first of the 2 we do have is with a focus return to the realm of a new focus of the adaption of some of the well established narratives in literature and while we have seen one earlier this year that defied the Gods, this will see the creation of one that many see as one foretold in legend, though how the project is entitled you would not think that was the case at all, as we have the release of the final trailer for the conclusion of this epic trilogy with the film of Dune Messiah (or part 3 as its called). Based on the follow up novel of Messiah, the film will be set 17 years after Part 2 and will see Paul Atreides as a trapped Emperor, that despite ruling the universe, he is powerless to stop the bloody Jihad fought in his name and he faces a conspiracy to dispose him and must fight for the people of Arrakis and of the powerful substance of the Spice. It is a case that the likes of this conclusion for me is a weird one as weird tangent that I have been to a lot of films in the cinemas this year and in that time since this first trailer released and up to its releasing in a few weeks I have not seen this advertised once in front of anything which I am really questioning (akin similar to that new Hunger Games when someone said them dropping trailers a year out will give it more time for interest but so far that's not been the case). Besides that I think in all sense this does look intriguing but again I still have my nitpicks of the title of the film and that besides some elements of how the spice of Arrakis alters the ideals of aging, the fact it looks like only a few days have past when it is 20 years since the timeline of the 2nd film is occoured just makes me feel maybe getting another pair of lead actors for the main duo would've worked better but maybe they will be a reasonable explanation overall and in all case I will still give it a watch (once I focus on the film I am more interested and intrigued on the outcome with) but I guess we can see by the release of this film from the 18th of December.

Jumanji Open World
As for the 2nd trailer to come from this week will be also coming to us near the end of this year and while the likes of that first trailer is a grander scale in scope from a grand scale novel, this title will have that sense of grand scale that started as a board game, a lost game in a school basement, one restored from damage and now about to hit the major point of no return: leaking into the real world once again with unforeseen circumstances as we have the release of the 2nd and presumed final trailer for the upcoming 3rd film in this reboot series with Jumanji Open World. The film will follow immediately on from the events of The Next Level and will see Spencer, Fridge, Bethany and Martha having escaped from the perilous obstacles of Jumanji before, but this time the world of Jumanji has broken free from its console, unleashing the characters and chaos into the real world and will bring even more challenges along the way. I will have to say in all things as I mentioned before that the liked of this reboot trilogy of films was quite the risky one as while the idea seemed interesting it was the worry with the case and apparently the drama over the outfit that Karen Gillen was given for the film but it seems now that after it released it became a surprise runaway success and spawned an appealing trilogy of films and its one that I have enjoyed each installment of and personally is one that I am excited to see the outcome of. The one thing I am wondering from this trailer in particular is how much of the film will be taking place in the real world and how much in the game world as it seems a bit of a mixed discussion after this 2nd trailer and if the group of teens we have followed from those first 2 will have much a presence in this new one but I am sure we will get an idea to it all soon enough as the film will be unleashed into cinemas from the 23rd of December.

News of various boosting

Stories to Legends, Fantasy and maybe a lot of British stuff

As for our news stories for this week there is a bit of a variety of mixture this week with the usual array of a hodge podge of stories, some that will have some appeal, some concern and some that will leave you with a bit of a emotional outcome to it but I am sure there is something in here for a lot of reasons but I guess we can see what will be found from all the stories and ordeals this last week has to offer to all, so lets have a look.

So it is with a heavy heart that I start this weeks news with a bit of some sad news to tell as while I have been one that has not really focused on these sorts of stories, this one is a heavy and sad one as tragically we suddenly lost 2 well respected actors in the field of entertainment and voice and that is with the sad and tragic passing of Eric Bauza and Sir Patrick Stewart. The sudden passing of these 2 was shocking and upsetting to say the least as they were both titans in different areas of the industry as while you may not be overly familiar with Bauza, you may be more familiar with the voice as they were the most recent and long running voice for many voice in animation, specifically with many of the voices to the Looney Tunes including Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Elmer Fudd, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn , Marvin the Martian and a few more, as well as some other titles across multiple different pieces of media and was a respectful name in the industry who was taken too soon (and true story in all of this, he actually followed me on socials a good while back as his work was great and appreciate that). As for Stewart he was quite a name in many different forms of media from stage in many roles of Shakespeare and beyond, to Film and TV with the likes of Captain Piccard in Star Trek, Charles Xavier in the X-Men series, the serious and silly and even to voice work in the likes of Prince of Egypt, Jimmy Neutron and even the iconic Poop Emoji that his presence will surely be missed and remembered for his 60 years of work on stage and screen and watching Doomsday now will be a rough one with that being his final role. The loss of these 2 will be a heavy one for many years to come with Bauza passing away at the age of 46 and Stewart at the age of 86 and I hope that both of these families receive great sympathy and these 2 may rest in peace.

So to really focus on some stories now with the focus of some casting news to start it all off and we give a focus here to this series that I have made my thoughts on very clear in the focus regarding on everything and that is with another bit of news in some casting additions for the new Harry Potter series being planned for HBO as they have announced a selection of cast for some of the spirits and for who will be portraying the roles of the long passed parents of the boy who lived as it was announced this week that Leo Bill (Rare Beasts) will portray Nearly Headless Nick, David Threlfall (Shameless) will voice the Sorting Hat, Laura Smyth (Baby Reindeer) will be playing the Fat Lady, Andrew Brooke (After Life) will portray the Bloody Baron and Daniel Fearn (Peaky Blinders) will play the fat friar. IN addition to this they have also confirmed that Lily and James Potter will be portrayed by Hannah Chinn (Conjuring Last Rites) and Jasper Talbot (Ruthless) so it seems there is a bit of establishing of the cast for some of these characters that were a little overlooked in the original version and I see this as fair enough. Again as I say with the likes of this series and what a fair amount have been saying for a while is that the series is really unnecessary especially given that the original series is still strong in many peoples minds of the film series and then the case of not supporting and lining the pockets of Ms JK Rowling for her terrible views of Trans people (I know she still says that she supports them but its a bit cynical in all forms and feels like a major lie) and just feels like its unnecessary and I guess that Warner is looking to make a profit in some way this year but I guess we will see what the outcome for this series will become with this series now set for release now on Christmas Day but I guess we will see down the line.

Going from the realm of fantasy of magic to the realm of fantasy of superhero's we do have a duo of casting confirmations coming to us from the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while we have the likes of 2 massive Marvel film projects to come from the next 2 festive seasons that seem to be heading towards a grim reality, we will be looking beyond that to some projects that we know are to come for what I see as the next saga of stories and will be with 2 different planned film projects and the first one is the confirmation of Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie has been casted in the upcoming Ghost Rider film and will be tapped to play the lead villain of this title. What that villain is exactly is unclear right now but there is some theory that it could be the likes of Deathwatch, Centurious or even the likes of Blackheart are some names floating around but the ideal of it does sound pretty interesting I will say and am intrigued to see what villain he is playing in all of this. As for the other casting in focus, while that first one is with a focus of one that is a major demonic entity, this one will be more of a creature that will be one to be quite noticeable in a distinguishing look as it was announced that Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Irish star Peter Claffey has been casted as the role of Hank McCoy or more known for the mutant of Beast. This is one I feel would be interesting and the casting for this character across the generation from Kelsey Grammer in the original trilogy and then Nicholas Hoult for the prequel quadrilogy so the likes of seeing some fresh new talent I feel could be an interesting one with all of this but I am sure we can see down the line of what there is expected for this character and new take on the mutants but I am sure both of them will be interesting to see the outcome of it all. Now at the moment it is all early days for these titles and I am sure we will see what else will be added to this growing roster but I am sure if I hear anything else I will let you know in a later episode.

Moving over to the likes of some project announcements, this new one will be one that in the basis of how some recent new appeal of the recent entry of this series, it looks like this series will be putting on another happy face for many in some form with a little bit of a change in who is helming such project as it was announced this week that we are getting a 3rd entry in the Smile franchise with the film having a change in director with it being helmed by Hellraiser director David Bruckner. Now the likes of this series mainly consist for those that are unfamiliar of some people who possess and creep out the likes of some that haunted by some past or witness of a trauma by people with unnerving and massive smiles upon their faces and all controlled by that mass of some supernatural entity that will not stop until they are dead or some way to stop it from doing so and it seems there is a sense of appeal that came from it. Now while the likes of the original had its fans before fizzling out, the follow up had a lot more of an appeal to it, especially in the likes of the lead performance by Naomi Scott that got a lot more attention and appreciation after the success of this years Obsession and star Inde Navarrette of people remembering they slept on their performance in this and I am sure it will be something that people will hope will have a similar appeal and be on par for this 3rd entry that some new talent with an established series could help to bring to the table itself and thats worth being interested in seeing. Now at the moment, there is no word or indication as to when we may see this follow up but once I do I will let you know in a later episode.

As for the other project announcement of this week, it will be something that will be really feeling very groovy baby and after many years away since the last time we had seen them in focus, I am sure it will be time to get their mojo back as it was essentially confirmed once more that a 4th film based on Austin Powers has been confirmed in the works by the lead star himself of Mike Myers with him also emphasizing that this film will be more of a center stage focus to the popular antagonist of the series with Dr Evil. The ideal of a follow up to this series after about 2 decades since the last time is one that I am interested to see how they will work it out and also wonder how they will go about the passing of the actor that played Mini Me a couple of years ago but I am sure they will have some ideas and interesting to see if the appeal is still there (with the only one that's been going against it and making a jab of saying it all smoke and mirrors is Seth Green saying that Myers says its happening and then is never followed up on in questioning but Green has always been a bit like that all the time). Now on when we may see this 4th title is currently unknown but once I hear anything new about it I will let you know in a later episode.

So there is one bit of a release date to this weeks stories and while I could've added this to the trailers section, it would've went against my rule that I had already established for that section and decided to at least acknowledge it in this section as when the world may be seen as a bit crazy and a little mad, we need one person in a well dressed attire to answer the deep philosophical questions that many of us would not think to answer but are worth questioning as it will be a return of a popular journalist coming back for an all new special as Philomena Cunk has returned and delving into the massive wide world of media and the arts with the release of the title of Cunk on cinema that has now gotten an official release date with it premiering first on November 12th in the UK on the BBC before it drops 3 days later on November 15th onto Netflix. This will be seeing her going around and taking a unique perspective across the realm of entertainment of film and television and speaking with some of the big names in the industry as well and if there is anything I always enjoy seeing what they have in mind or in concept to have a good laugh of some of her vast knowledge and in all sense of things I will enjoy checking this out in about 2 weeks time.

To wrap up the stories for this week is with the focus of one thing that has really popped off in the last 2 years around here and even across the globe itself and that is with the holder of concessions of you snacks for the movies and that is of course with the Popcorn Buckets and movie merch for some specific titles to come with the last time I talked on this was about 2 years ago with my complaints on why we barely get any cool buckets like the states did for films like Deadpool and Wolverine, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Sonic 3 and many others and it seems that there was some that came from it as well and it looks like now we have gotten a focus of some in recent memory like Minus Zero, Mario Galaxy, Spider-Man and more and it looks like it will be a duo of choice for the end of this year as you may recall we have a big duo blockbuster Christmas in the focus of Doomsday and Dune Part 3 and both of them this week have unveiled their products and I will start off with Doomsday as it seems like the marketing and posters, all of the items will be based on Doom himself with a focus of a Doom Bust Bucket, Doom helmet cup, a Sentinel Bucket and a standard Metal tin too that I see as being an appealing one, with there being 2 I see only being out in the states that will be a bucket designed after Doom on his throne and I feel they all have an appeal in their look and worth picking up one or 2 of them if I can (and hopefully won't be too pricey and can get at least one of them before the scalpers take them). Now as for the other film, I feel with all of this was where the catalyst of this Bucket craze began for many of the wrong reasons and where we thought it was a one and done thing, they have returned with a upgrade as the bucket that was dubbed online back then as the Duneussy has returned and will now be going international with a slight update with the sand thumper on the bucket to be one of some questionable things. But if you thought that maybe this would appeal more with a companion, then you are in luck with a upgrade as there is a dual sandworm bucket for 2 people to grab popcorn at the same time (or for other..... uses) and then there is one other one that may appeal to the ladies (or fellas or anyone) with this cylindrical bucket that I thought was actually a drinks cup but prove me wrong. Do I feel these buckets were intentional I have no idea, did they do it to revive the meme, probably, will I be picking these up, likely yes if I can get one before the bots and scalpers do so but I have to wonder with the latter group if it was intentional but overall I think they work in selling well (and maybe I should invest some form of stock into these as they make a fortune) but I guess we will see.

But what do you make of all of these stories, do you see those roles fitting for those ghosts and characters in this new adaption, what villain is Storrie playing in Ghost Rider and is Caffrey a good fit for Beast, are you excited for a 3rd Smile film, with a 4th Austin Powers work, will you be watching the new Philomena Cunk Special and will you be getting any of the popcorn or film merch for these films and what other merch for future titles would you want to see be a bucket or cup? Let me know what you think down below.

And with all of that, this brings us to the end of the 192nd edition of Weird Mind News Room and I hope you enjoy the ramblings for another week. Let me know your thoughts on all discussed down below and as always I hope you all stay being wonderful people and have a great day everyday and I will see you all in the next episode :)

Take care, keep being you, signing off
Sam H :)
